Evan Mobley improved in almost every offensive metric this season

I’ll be the first to admit that he is far from a finished product on offense (defensively he’s been elite for a while already), but Mobley improved across the board offensively. He did this all on pretty flat volume, with his usage and shot attempts not going up as much as you would expect from an improving player in his third year.

Shouldnt be a surprise to anybody who’s watched all season, but I thought it was interesting to point out.

It blows my mind that some Cavs fans think we should trade him.

  2. The issue is these offensive stats are not carrying over to the post season. Additionally, he really needs to increase in usage so he has more offensive impact. He can’t just be a low usage efficient player.

I’m worried if we lose Allen and try to force Mobley into being a pure starting 5, he’s going to regress. His frame just doesn’t seem built to put on the size needed to post up against big men for an entire season. Even now you see he is often unable to post up against bigger Forwards, let alone true centers. He excels best on the P&R and put backs. I’d rather roll the dice and see him develop a mid-range/3 shot over bulking and forcing him to be a true center. Also, dude desperately needs to work on his spacial awareness. How many times have you seen Mobley get a surprise pass from a driving guard and just fumble it for a TO?

It’s less about his shooting and more about his presence in the paint. He is too timid and not strong enough. The play where Paolo strips the ball is a great example. He seems to try and pivot until he gets an uncontested shot rather than try and go up with the ball and worst case scenario drawing fouls. These slow developing plays leads to the 6 TOs we saw in the game yesterday. He needs to get stronger or build some confidence so when he has the ball to the hoop he knows the moves to finish or draw a foul.

He needs to bulk up in the off-season and hopefully practice to improve his presence in the paint
