You can’t rebuild a team with just draft picks. If young guys only experience constant losing, it fucks with their ability to improve and perform. Look at Cade in Detroit. Even just making the play-in can keep morale high and keep a growing team together.
That one play-in appearance by Charlotte has kept them from collapse despite constant LaMelo injuries and an abuser on the roster. Orlando kept making moves to try to be relevant before landing Paolo. Pacers held onto Myles Turner until they could get Haliburton, dangling him the entire way but not ever pulling the trigger on a trade. Being completely ass, which they would be without Lauri, is not how you rebuild.

There is one year left on his deal. And there is no reason for a team that is in a full blown rebuild to re-sign an above average talent (if I am being nice, borderline star that cant carry a team to the playoffs) to a max deal. Ainge is just trying to fleece another idiotic GM.
