[WaPo] No disrespect, but Shaq’s MVP rant reeked of jealousy. Instead of taking his turn to congratulate fellow MVP Nikola Jokic, Shaquille O’Neal issued an objection as stale as his highlight reel.

Washington Post bodying Shaq was not on my Friday morning bingo card, but I’m here for it lmao

I thought the Shaq reply was dumb as hell but was it really deserving of a whole think piece?

  2. LeJalenJohnsonMVP

Are they calling Shaqs highlight reel stale? Are they stupid?

  3. beer_down

I generally think Shaq is a decent analyst but he just can’t get out of his own feelings when it comes to Centers.

  4. szobossz

this man doesn’t know ball. shaq’s highlight reel is never stale.

  5. FirstTimeLongThyme

Shaq is absolutely miserable when it comes to anyone who could potentially DARE to be so successful in their career as to be mentioned in the same breath as him. I don’t particularly like Dwight, but the man spent his whole broadcast career shitting on Dwight because he dared be a successful C from Orlando who got called Superman.

It is undoubtedly a character trait that helped forge him into the all time great he is, but it’s fucking exhausting coming from a broadcaster.

  6. TalkingToTalk

Shaq is upset that people are making videos of Jokic being the GOAT center, not him.

  7. Mr_Hugh_Honey

Shaq deserves to be dragged for being the Charmin Ultra Soft bitch he has always been. I get that he has his funny moments but the dude has always been insanely insecure and he uses his insecurity to belittle others

  8. HokageEzio

Ruined a decent point by saying something stupid like Shaq having stale highlights, nice.

  9. _yotsuna_

You know Shaq was clutching at straws when he brought up OKC having the first seed….OKC and the Nuggets had the same record.

  10. I think when Shaq has an opinion, he stands by the opinion, sometimes a little too strongly.

He didn’t have a problem with Jokic winning MVP the 1st or 2nd time. Thought Embiid should’ve won it last year (he wasn’t wrong, btw) and thought that SGA should’ve won it this year, and he had a really strong case.

Him telling Jokic that in his face is something I would expect Shaq to do.

  11. Puzzleheaded_Pound31

Calling the most dominant big man ever’s highlight reel stale while trying to make a valid point about how wrong his butthurt outburst was is certainly a choice

  12. 0dias_Chrysalis

I guess fight stupid with a stupid argument?

  13. Fakeskinsuit

Jokic handled it well, as he seems to handle just about everything media/off court

  14. Okay but if I go pull up Shaq highlights right now I’m going to be stuck watching for a while. Nothing stale about them besides the video quality.

  15. xenoz2020

Hey hey hey! That’s the president of the Big Man Alliance that you’re slandering.

Here’s my take on the situation because I  watched it all play out on live TV instead of mini-clips being posted on social media: Charles Barkley announces Jokic won MVP. Shaq makes his claim that Jokic should not have won while he discussed amongst the TNT crew. Jokic joins them live about five minutes later to make a statement about winning. As everyone was going on around congratulating him, Shaq proceeds to tell him what he just discussed with TNT crew/all the view of home and that he felt SGA should have won. Maybe Shaq’s rationale was that he didn’t want to come off as fake since  moments before was saying how Jokic didn’t deserve it over SGA and felt the need to be direct…Or Shaq is a sensitive baby who is afraid of any big man getting accolades and overshadowing him lol.

  17. You can say anything if you preface it with “no disrespect”. No disrespect but Shaq’s a jealous bum with no original thoughts.

“All due respect” is better because then you can completely disrespect someone while still giving them the exact amount of respect that they are due.

(Also… for the record… I do not endorse the “Shaq’s a bum” message.)

  18. RobbobertoBuii

Shaq went at Shannon Sharpe for no reason too

  19. NYCSportsFan

Do you have these? 🖖 I don’t think so. Google me.

  20. thebranbran

I love Shaq. He’s an amazing human being who has done wonderful things for people and he’s a great personality.

But he interjects his legacy into the conversation often times when it doesn’t need to be. Shai had an amazing year and that’s fine if he thinks he should have won MVP but saying that during the announcement was cringe. This also just comes off as jealousy because he only has 1 while Joker now has 3 which shouldn’t matter because it’s 2 different eras.

  21. Pizzadontdie

I couldn’t help but notice Shaq looked really off the entire broadcast yesterday. He seemed disengaged and almost annoyed that he even had to be on the air. It was odd.

  22. WhoFartedMan

Someone just give Shaq an honorary MVP already so he can shut the fuck up about himself anytime another good center emerges in the league.

  23. CanaDoug420

Killed your entire point calling Shaq’s highlight reel stale. Even if I agree that Shaq was wrong you wronger now

  24. SilentSasquatch2

Shaq definitely feels threatened by Jokic because he already has 3 mvps to Shaq’s 1. Not saying he’s a better player, but the more awards and rings he collects the closer he gets to being put equal to or above Shaq all time.

  25. Few_Internet_3915

Are we really calling shaq’s highlight reel stale though?

  26. hankbaumbach

Oh Shaq made something about him and his greatness because he felt slighted? I am totally shocked at this aberrant behavior from a guy who usually takes jokes so well!

  27. OtherShade

“Shaquille O’Neal issued an objection as stale as his highlight reel.”

    Straight up invalid lmao

  28. sanne_dejong

None of the arguments matter. Not how good Shaq was compared to Jokic, not what should really count for getting MVP. None of that matters. Jokic didn’t nominate himself nor did he vote for himself. Others picked him as their favorit and voted for him.

Shaq taking center stage and shoving his opinion down everybody’s but most important Jokic throat is just bad manners and bad taste. Very disappointing he took this much effort to diss on someone who did nothing else than play the game as well as he could.

Shame on you Shaq. Only way to make this right is publicly apologize. A real man knows when he made a mistake and wronged someone.

  29. Doogolas33

I mean, fair play that Shaq is an idiot, but Shaq’s highlight reel is not stale. Lmao. His highlights are still a blast to watch.

  30. its_still_good

It’s OK to disrespect Shaq. He hasn’t earned a lot lately.

  31. DueTrick2324

Take the MVP Award presentation away from Inside the NBA please. Shaq was incredibly disrespectful & then the other presenters just asked Joker about the Wolves series. It wasn’t a celebration at all. Please do better!

  32. AtreusIsBack

His insecurity is directly proportionate to his size. Massive.

I’ve never seen, heard or read about an all-time great that was this petty, insecure, jealous and downright immature. His career was literally paved with gold and he himself admitted he didn’t work as hard as he could have and he slacked off, so it’s not like he was sweating blood every year to be great. Won 4 titles, 1 of them on the back of another all-time great player in Wade and the first 3 were won with another top 10 all-time player and surrounded by great role players.

And he STILL moans about everything that isn’t directly related to praise aimed at him. It’s honestly astonishing how bad his character can be, despite him also having a good heart with many other things, but dear lord is he just the softest personality ever.

  33. Jameszhang73

Every argument that Shaq had for SGA winning was also applicable for Nash winning over Shaq lmao

  34. Briskpenguin69

The Washington Post DOES NOT have G14 Classification among Newspapers!!!

  35. Dependent_Way_1038

love shaq but he really need to chill sometime

  36. Shaq just thinks big men who learned how to shoot free throws are overrated. Real men don’t learn to shoot. They go whining to the commissioner to get the rules changed.

  37. 8s8s8s8s8s

Why is the mvp announced before the season is over? Let’s see how it plays out🤷🏻‍♂️

  38. rowmean77

Shaq is just projecting his frustration and jealousy really.

Love him still but like anyone else he is an imperfect human being.

  39. After-Walrus-4585

I love Shaq and this was really disappointing.

  40. I really have no respect for Shaq at all after those Comments. infact I hate him.,. He literally put down and humiliated Jokic during his acceptance speech. Shows he is no man at all. Glad to see Jokic handled it in the opposite way. He needs to be fired for those comments.
