DOOMERS: The Boston Celtics are 7-2 these playoffs with a +11 diff (their historically great regular season was +11.4)

That per game differential of +11 would rank 6th all time over regular seasons, just ahead of the 96-97 Bulls. But, we’re playing playoff teams — no duds appear on the schedule.

So far this playoffs, the Celtics have been historically great. There’s no negative side of the coin … it requires being an extremely negative fan to complain about this run thus far.

It’s crazy, we could go 12-2 on the way to the finals, and the talking heads will probably say we can’t be favored because of those two losses and weak competition in the East.

  2. chickspeak

I take all the playoff stat with a grain of salt since teams have different opponents and the sample size is small. The historic regular season stat is more convincing to me.

  3. We’re supposed to win every game by minimum 15 sorry. No NBA Champion has ever slogged through a playoff game or series for that matter.

*hides away the 2014 Spurs who went to 7 in round 1 vs the 8 seed.*

*Hides away the 2008 Celtics who went to 7 vs a 37 win team, 7 vs a 45 win team, and then won in 6 in both the conference finals and NBA Finals*

*Hides away the 2012 Heat who went to 6 and 7 in rounds 2 and 3*

*Hides away the 2013 Heat who went to 7 in the ECF and Final (would’ve lost the finals in 6 if the Spurs hit their free throws or got a rebound)*

*Hides away the 2019 Raptors who won the last three rounds in 7, 6 and 6*

*Hides away the 2009 Lakers who went to 7 in round 2*

  4. And if we can just close out game 5, we will have a better win percentage in the playoffs than our very impressive regular season

National media will be on their asses until they win it all. Steven A and Wilbon said it just like that before the Knick Pacer game on Sunday.

And to some degree, they’re not wrong to feel that way. It’s just the goldfish brained instant takes, devoid of any context at all that drive me up a wall.

Like, one year ago Tatum dropped 50 in a game 7 win. You’d think he had zero such games when in fact he has several, more certainly than the younger less experienced guys everyone wants to crown as the next greatest thing.

  6. It’s pretty funny that after all the concern trolling Boston is the only remaining team with a 3-1 series lead

Honestly, we gotta be done with the doomer shit. I was into it until the mods made a real good point and that post.

Then they gave me my flair and I was merry.

  8. Not a doomer at all, but, to be fair – are we really playing playoff teams? 5 games against the 8 seed (without their best player), and so far 4 games against the 4 seed (without their best big, and best player for one game).

  9. Holiday-Usual-3600

Just to nitpick (doom) a bit

The Heat series without butler/rozier is basically like a non playoff team, the Heat still played hard but the better test would be healthy Indy/Knicks with Og playing

Cavs matchup extremely well with Cs and they’re playing them hard so it’s good to see up 3-1 but the west isn’t gonna be as easy as its been so far (no Kp really shuts down the offense when they double Tatum and everyone else isn’t hitting 3s)

    Go C’s

Time to thank the Doomers. …. Every time they come out we seem to go on a run

  11. the prevalence of doomer mindset in fans correlates with the popularity of relentlessly advertised and legalized gambling in sports.

  12. Wonderful_Eagle_6547

Their +12.1 net rating in the playoffs would be the 4th best since the merger behind the ’01 Lakers, ’17 Warriors and the ’91 Bulls. I guess the fans are going to bitch and moan right up to the point where Boston hoists a trophy.

  13. seasoned-veteran

    Regular season winning percentage: 75%

    Playoff winning percentage: 77.8%

  14. SnooAvocados996

Again, fans are concerned with 2 things that are trends that go back years:

    1. Form at home.
    2. Stagnant offense.

Both of those are still legitimate concerns in these playoffs.

  15. But…but…but…. Two playoff caliber teams had insane outlier shooting nights against us.

I mean so far we’ve played the 8 seed without their best player, and now the 4 seed also dealing with injuries. Looking at the differential is silly this early. Either way, I think Celtics are the best team in the league and can win it all as long as they don’t get in their own way.

  17. Rare_Economics9185

Look, Celtics are amazing and I believe we can go all the way.

But let’s not kid ourselves, Heat and Cavs with injuries are no comparison for the 4 teams playing in the West right now.

Let’s destroy them in the finals, but I see us getting the job done right now as a regular day in the office, and it’s not even 5 o’clock yet.
