Why does the NBA hate us so GD much?! We’re no. 1 one in points in the paint, last in opponent FTAs per game, and 23rd in FTAs per game. I will concede that we’re 2nd to last in points allowed in the paint, but it doesn’t add up. Which one of you dickheads fucked Adam Silvers wife?! Was it worth it?

Guys, this isn’t enough context. The Pacers score a lot of their paint points in transition which are often paint shots that aren’t challenged as highly.

Also, anecdotally, outside of Benn and Siakam, who on this team do you consider an aggressive paint scorer? Maybe TJM? But he’s also scoring a lot of his two point shots on short jumpers or floaters. This team does not have many paint attackers in the half court. Combine that with many of their paint points being transition-based and I think that explains a lot of it.

While I agree some of this is bias against small market teams but it ignores how our guys play. Basically nearly every Pacers player avoids contact on drives. Think of all the acrobatic shots Ty, Nemby, Turner, Siakam put up? The only ones who don’t are Aaron (who is often out of control on drives) and of course Mathurin (who actually started to avoid more contact this year). Rarely do our guys get into the paint and just muscle the ball into the basket.

Further, a lot of out points in the paint are because of fast breaks or the result of our phenomenal spacing which typically don’t draw fouls.

Look at Pacers players like Sabonis, Brogdon and PG who left the team. Their FTA per game have remained largely the same. Siakam’s have dropped a bit but not enough to say its not just sample size.

We also tend to avoid contact vs seeking it so that doesn’t help our case. But I agree that we almost always get a bad whistle.
