man very quick get my quick thoughts on Don Mitchell uh um link to the Atlanta Hawks and it’s not a surprise because two years ago his name was in talks to become an Atlant Haw but he ended up going to Cleveland instead and from Brett seagull uh Insider and reporter from clutch clutch Point Sports um he said that dunan Mitchell could be on the move even though dunan Mitchell has come out and said he wanted to remain in Cleveland we all know that can change at any day any given time but I’m going give y my quick thoughts on it man I’m go to uh yard Barker and we gonna go through that article and it’s off of Brett seagull’s uh comments on Twitter uh if y’all haven’t seen that yet uh but let’s get this thing rolling man uh since he’s linked to the Hawks K go find a way to convince Don Mitch extend the franchise and they’re saying he could get the biggest contract in franchise history yes big bigger than LeBron James maybe because we’re talking post eight years LeBron James and the prices are going up not only inflation in the world but in NBA contracts as well so this would not be a surprise we looking at up with of $50 million a year uh possibly he’s in the middle of a fiveyear $163 million deal and we all know Dame L and Jaylen Brown knows guys that price has went up tremendously uh so if Donan Mitchell um gets a new contract it may be the biggest in Hawks I’m sorry in C’s history um says the guard is a free agent in 2025 most are hoping cavali is will trade Allstar before he walks as free agent next season that’s likely gonna be the case because as I’ve been watching U Darius Garland is up for a deal Evan moley who’s definitely gonna get a Max contract and somebody’s gonna miss out and why not go with the two younger guys in Mo and darus Garland and trade d you get pieces and keep building that team they’re having problem with Jerry Allen as well so it’s no surprise uh but it says that Atlanta hws report another team interested in team Mitchell before he becomes available uh and like I said two years ago they had interest when he was with Utah ended up uh going to um Cleveland but in parentheses uh this is what Brett said he said there also have been whispers about Mitchell and Atlanta H dating back to last year Mitchell had a strong relationship with all the punt guard Trey Young and the Hawks want to position themselves to once again be at the top of the Easter Conference standard rather quickly and that mean wins right now and said despite concerns about the Hawks wanting to cut cost uh sour say the ownership will be willing to invest uh in a player like Mitchell if he was available um and that’s not a surprise uh it said while it is true that Atlanta looking at cut cost D the tax line heading into the summer ownership on Tony wrestler uh is Will to make a big move and invest Lo sources said the Hawks have a lot of interesting trade assets including using the number one overall pick which I think that would be a mistake because you have a chance to get the seven foot of the future uh no matter who that may be now having the number one pick in the 2024 n draft to play around with as well as talents such as de jante Murray Clint capella DeAndre Hunter AJ Griffin h could get creative in terms to offer a mass package for Mitchell this summer and that’s the thing man you can package up all these picks but think about it would you really want two six1 point guards in your back court uh because who’s going to play defense yeah they can put up points and they probably score 120 something points a game with them two guys but they’re gonna give up 150 points uh so as I look at it man it really doesn’t make sense in some aspects now if you were willing to tra Treyon which I think would be a mistake because he’s a better facilitator I think he’s a true point guard D Mitchell he can play the one or two so he’s one of those versatile guys which you put on a team that has a little bit more in place such as a team like the Lakers who are also uh in the mix uh but I think the era of the super team is over so I think now in the NBA it’s about chemistry and as we look at his contract right quick uh it says he has 35 million uh cap hit this year $25 million so that’s a good piece of change and you look at his stats um he averaged 26 points a game last year five rebounds six assists uh shot 42% from the 46% from the field 36.8 from three-point range free throws Dynamic and his PR was Dynamite so as I look at um dunam MIT coming over to the Hawks uh stats wise it Mak sense but other than that I don’t think it does uh because as I think about it uh if you trade away all the pieces that they have listed you still GNA have to build a bch you still gonna have to build you know finish off your starting lineup as I said especially you trade number one pick uh you still have bogy you still have Jaylen Johnson um OA Kongo uh but you still have to go and find pieces but this is why I’ve said I think it’s important that the Hawks go with that number one pick and go get uh Alex SAR because as I look at it 17 19 years old athletic freak uh protects the rim block shots rebounds something that they haven’t had at Center in a long time and as I look at it I look all the way back I’m going to go all way back to M to Kimi Matumbo in the late 90s early 2000 with the since they had to got a protect the rim at a dominant pace so it’s been a long time for the Hawks so now you have a chance to go back get that Dynamic uh and as I look at that 98 99 team with Steve Smith bie block D kimbe Matumbo um that is that was a winning team for the they had Perfect Chemistry and then they had Lenny Wilkins as coach who to me was the best coach that they’ve had in franchise history uh but this is uh win loser draw for the Hawks and Donovan Mitchell to me um stat wise it makes sense defensive wise it doesn’t uh and what they would have to give up it really doesn’t so the cows are trying to move uh pieces so they can stay competitive right about where they are or get better uh but the Hawks want to turn it around super quick but I bet I think the best way to do that is uh you go get that big man you probably trade DJ J and get uh picks and probably a sustainable role player to come in um because I don’t think bogy Hunter and those guys are gonna go anywhere and I think Jaylen Johnson is probably the next four and OA o cono is a five which I think he’s a four uh but Alexa could be the piece uh to put this puzzle together and then you just build up him Jaylen Johnson and Trey young and I think that’s the
