Lakers TWIN TOWER Center Signing to Pair with Anthony Davis! | Lakers Best BARGAIN Options at Center
[Music] welcome back everyone throughout the 2023 24 NBA season the Lakers had a lot of underachievement from their role players definitely not all of them but probably more than they would have liked and if you individually compared what they did during this season compared to Prior ones then you will find that nobody declined more than Christian Wood who went from averaging over 15 points per game for three straight years to then averaging under 7 and not only that but shooting a career low from the three-point line Al all his second worst field goal percentage now you definitely could point to a guy like gave Vincent here as well but that more so came down to him being hurt and while Christian would dealt with his own fair share of injury it was not anywhere close to what Vincent dealt with and it really came down to him under performing now don’t get me wrong I think he could and likely will have a rebound year if they keep him around though I’m not sure they want to rely on that happening and especially with their other backup center Jackson hay is potentially leaving as a free agent and with that in mind here they could really benefit from finding one more reliable option and preferably with one that can provide what neither of them can which in my opinion is reliable Rim protection although it’s simply being a disciplined Defender the only problem here is that you typically cannot find that for cheap and with the Lakers having literally zero cap room to work with the biggest contract they have to offer will only be worth around 5 million which they likely don’t want to offer a backup center and if that turns out to be true which it very likely will be then they once again have to go bargain hunting now that might sound like a bad thing but I for one think there are a number of good options for them and we’re going to talk about two of them in today’s video both of which are defensive minded and that most importantly are very likely going to be within their price range before we get too far into it though if you’re looking for a place to talk about the NBA Playoffs or even bent about the Lakers then don’t forget to check out our NBA Discord we have a live game chat a daily discussion board and much much more to talk about everything NBA and Lakers related or if you don’t have Discord then feel free to follow me on Twitter to hear my thoughts on what’s going on around the NBA there will be a link for both of them in the video description down below but without further Ado let’s dive right into it and like I mentioned before the Lakers have little to nothing to offer in terms of money which will mean the top tier centers will very likely ignore them including guys like Isaiah hardenstein Nick Claxton and even a guy like yonas funis all of which will be beyond their price range and well that’ll leave them looking for a more affordable option which might not be a bad thing if they look hard enough and like I referred to before there are two of them that I have my eyes on the first of which being go go batat a 24-year-old backup center batat is coming out the best year of his young career averaging about Five Points five rebounds and over one block shot per game in only a little over 15 minutes per game and while that might not jump off the page at you there is quite a bit of underlying value here and in order to find it you need to look back on what he did while the magic were playing with though wend cter junor here which led to goo batat taking a spot in their starting lineup and throughout that 34 game time frame he put up over seven points over seven rebounds nearly two block shots and then a career high 61% from the field not only that though but he had the highest plus minus rating of anybody on their team that played over 500 minutes throughout that time frame really telling you about the value that he brought their team and the foundation of that value was without a doubt his Rim protection I know we tend to get caught up in Block shots per game that’s really not the important part here sure they definitely make a difference but they will never tell you the full story Bo a players defense you can be a great shot blocker but still be a poor Defender I mean look at Mamba for example though that did not happen to be the case for Goa batat if we look a little bit deeper which we’ll begin with by looking at Advanced stats you will find that batas ranked as the 34th most impactful defender in the entire league per defensive EPM right above Anthony Davis now keep in mind that the team the player plays for will definitely influence that rating which is why he ranked above Anthony Davis for example but it does tell you about individual player impact and the only other guy on the team that ranked higher than he did happened to be Jaylen sugs a k that is very likely to make an old defensive team and with that in mind here the defensive impact of Goo batat cannot be overlooked he literally held down their paint defense while they played with a wend Carter Jr another very good Defender by the way and for a backup big man playing for a minimum level contract you will not find that very often and the even better part is that I largely went overlooked or at least is better for a team like the Lakers anyway who might be able to take advantage of it simply put they are not going to find a backup center that can make that kind of impact for that price Christian Wood will not come anywhere close and then while I think Jackson Hayes took a step in the right direction he definitely cannot make that kind of impact either now again you do need to have good point of attack defense to begin with but a guy like goo batat can clean up a lot of mess around the rim and I was really impressed with how well he moved around down there gone are the days of big man who cannot move their feet with all the high pick and role play along with switching on defense that goes on nowadays you need to be able to move your feet even if we’re talking about his Center and that does in fact apply to goo bat now I’m not saying that he can defend a point guard or anything like that but he is mobile enough to make the occasional switch and that definitely quick enough to recover around the rim and that played a big part in him averaging nearly three block shots for 36 minutes and although he might not be able to provide much offensively he can fill the role of a l threat Along being a pretty damn good offensive rebounder too so they would not be losing much if they would opt to replace Hast with goo bat and then when you factor in the Improvement on defense I would definitely take him over either one of Haz or wood though unfortunately there does happen to be a chance that he’ll be retained by the Orlando Magic or maybe paid more by a different team and if that turns out to be true then I think another great bargain option for them would be Xavier Tilman now I know some people still think it’s 1990 the center has to be 7 ft tall in weigh 285 plus but that does not happen to be true for the modern NBA sure there might be a time and place for that kind of player still though a very rare one at this point but the most valuable attribute for a center would have to be defense versus tilty and well there are not very many that more of it thanks savier Tilman going back to that defensive vpm rating that I talked about before Tilman came as the 13th most impactful defender in the entire league and unlike ogab baton he did not play the entire year with a top five defense rather he spent over half of it with Memphis who despite finishing 13 they ranked in the bottom 10 after trading him away which really tells you about his impact on defense you might not think he’ be that impactful but he definitely is and like I referred to before a whole lot of it comes down to his defensiv ver intility being able to both switch on defense Al being able to protect the rim as well and not only by blocking shots but having good enough hands to strip the ball away too not very common for a big but tman averaged about two steals for 36 minutes which put him at second in the entire league among bigs and not to mention they average about two blocks per 36 minutes to go along with it again he might only be about 6’8 but he makes suffer with a tremendous 7’2 wingspan along with having a St 250 plus pound frame and then of course being quick enough to move his feet which is really the golden Triad when it comes to versatility among bigs and Tilman definitely has it and while he might end up getting paid more than a minimum level contract I would like to think that between the two of them one of them will end up getting overlooked which unfortunately for them might lead to them taking a veteran minimum or somewhere very close to it again not great for them but it could be great for a team like the Lakers who I think should be closely monitoring both of them I mean if we’re talking about legitimate value here which we are then you’ll be hard pressed to find a more valuable backup big than either one of them they vastly outplayed their contracts though due to them not being great three-point Shooters nor getting much many playing time during the postseason that might lead to them going overlooked and largely under valued too and I forone would try to take advantage of it but with all of that being said what do you guys think how do you feel about the option of Goo Pat or Xavier Tilman for a new backup center let me know your thoughts in the comments down below that will do it for this video though big thank you to those of you took the time to watch until the end of this video and until the end of all my videos in general I really hope you enjoyed it and if you did be sure to drop a like on the video subscribe to the channel if you have not already and hit that notification Bell to never miss out when I upload I would bring 2 centers: Jalen Smith and Drummond.
8:21 get ANDRE DRUMMOND
😂😂😂😂
Its better you find a center that plays in european like a dwight howard playstyle bro. I think no american can stop jokic but himself international guy
Hayes had a rookie in Livley outplaying him🤦♂️🤦♂️
I believe it should be Andre Drummond!
Wood n Reeves gotta get in better shape immediately!!
No thanks to either….if the lakers are looking for a bargain & care about their present AND future, take a look at Yves Missi as a 17th pick (which should be available). I think you will be pleasantly surprised. He has all of the important attributes the Lakers need in a big…a 7 footer with a 7-6 wingspan who offers great rim protection, mobility, lateral quickness, a quick bounce to complement his verticality & a promising offensive skill set. And if the Lakers are truly interested in interior/versatile D with elite athleticism, I would also keep an eye on Adem Bona if available…however, my guess is he sneaks into the end of the first or near top of the 2nd. JMO…
We need a “Dwight Howard” and a “Javale McGee”
Get nick Richards at center
I actually think an AD/Olynyk frontcourt could be effective. Olynyk would stretch the floor and make plays while AD would continue scoring in the paint. On defence AD could still be the main rim protector but also be the roamer at times, and the rebounding would not fall solely on AD’s shoulders.
Dwight Howard and boogie cousins for the cheap
I’ve been saying they need Tilman badly for about 2years
Nothing works
Did u hear that the X coach Darvin Ham wanted to start AD at center which he didn't like and Darvin Ham didn't want to start AD at his natural position power forward and have a center.
To the people who think that the true center position is dead, Dallas just proved you wrong!!!! Without the incredible rookie Dereck Lively, A TRUE CENTER, Dallas would not have knocked out OKC!!!! Even Luka admitted that!!! Jaxson Hayes is the same type of player that Lively is but dumb as a rock Hamm had no idea and didn't play him enough!!! Hopefully the Lakers front office and soon to be chosen new coaching staff realize that SIZE MATTERS!!!!
Tillman so we can trade Rui. Is Olynyk available? We need his skills set along with AD.
Dwight Howard is available.
Twin tower works with AD but it won’t work with lebron. He’s too old to go back to SF. Lakers needs an athletic SF who can hit 3 cuz lebron needs space.
I can’t believe they didn’t go for PJ Washington he would fit well certainly better than Hachimura who cannot fill the role on defense
I need the lakers sign him asap he can be the jokic stopper
Would love goga was following Orlando a bit for trade deadline but rumors are that they might prefer him over Wendell
Botadze is a very interesting player. I hope rob is seeing this vid.
LeBron gonna hold llthe ball all day of course everyone numbers will suffer 🤷🏾♂️
Trade Jaxson Hayes for Bitadze since Jaxson is very vocal on leaving the team. Valanciunas and Bitadze are 😢perfect for the team. Mavericks has 2 big men, Daniel Gafford 6'10" and Derick Lively 7'1" that both helps them so much in the regular season and playoffs. Especially that Lively who is a rookie, now plays like a pro. This looks like they already found the missing link. As we can see, Luka and Kyrie are very confident on where they are now, noving to the Western conference finals. While the Warriors are also planning in getting 2 centers. It would be perfect if Lakers will have 3 legit center, thus they may consider on getting McGee or zach Edey. So that the Lakers can always have 2 big men on the floor. 0:27
Both dudes offer what the Lakers need, but both are also limited in ways that the Lakers don't necessarily need again. Both are very capable interior defenders and shot-blockers, as well as good rebounders. However, from a versatility standpoint, I'd go with Tillman for the simple fact that he possesses the ability to space the floor, switch quickly to guards and other positions, a pesky ball pest, and averaged nearly 2.0SPG as a PF/C, which is not very common in the NBA. And it's not like the Lakers already don't have an undersized but versatile PF/C in Christian Wood, which I pray gets more playing time, maybe even a starting role. IF the Lakers acquire Tillman, they should immediately pursue either Dwight Howard or Andre Drummond.
Get both centers of 2020,yes they are older but they will serve their purpose with defense and Jokic …Jokic slow pace and style of play allows old centers to keep up with him especially if you have a good imposing pair of centers
I think Bitadze might be better. I don't think that Tillman is 6’8 though. I'd say he's more like 6’4 or something.
I been advocating for Goga for a year now. He is mobile and aggressive. I would like to pair him up with Bol Bol on another min deal. Bol Bol has the height to block shots and he has 3pt range to play in a big lineup with AD and Lebron. I think a 3 man rotation of AD, Goga and Bol Bol would be a formidable center rotation for the budget restraint that the Lakers have.
I’d get both Goga and Tillman to pair with AD and Wood. Perfect inside and out combo with enough physicality
Not of this players are better than Dwight Howard
more trade videos thx
both a defensive liability
Jaxon Hayes
all i can say is that your an amazing scout especially on details on what teams need or possibilities – so much appreciation for your talent
You and Trevor Lane crac me up. Delusional az Hell, nothing you ever say happens. Why not talk about trading your Queen. Yu ppl will listen to someone piss on cotton and say it's snow
LAURI MARKENAN
Yes make deal with hornets for richards, and grant williams
Solves most oir problems good enough backup to play 20 minutes game. Williams gives us a forward that can play great d and hit 3s. Kind of a combjned vando and rui
Got to go after goga
Christian Wood sat out most the season because of baby momma drama. While Kobe played through an alleged r*pe case. Wood is soft AF
I wish dey gave Jay Huff a chance
Hayes nd wood are no centres they should just play pf
Trade rob pelinka. Get rob lowe
Gabe can fill a Schroder part is nuts, he cant score and didnt even come close to D.S., i think that is one way we lost
If they are not gonna draft bronny at 17 then theres no reason not to draft zack edey at 17
Maybe the magic do Goga a solid and sign trade him for DLo. Would let us pay him a little more than min but still get him. 2/6-8 mil would be perfect
Id go for Drummond
The Lakers does need another center piece they should sign or trade for Centers like Andre Drummond, Nikola Vucevic, Alex Len, Nick Richards, Robin Lopez, Goga Bitadze, Tristan Thompson, Steven Adams, James Wiseman, bring back Javale McGee, Dwight Howard, Derrick Favors, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Hassan Whiteside, DeMarcus Cousins, Paul Millsap, Dwight Powell, Marques Bolden…….
Tillman is really a undersized 4, playing 5. Hes a buffed up 3 in sized, but small for a big without a strong 3pt shot like a paul malsip hes a backup at best
Better keep hays! Brings great energy! Now here it comes today's game has changed, get Ja Morant!
