about a little over a month from the draft and um there’s no one captaining the boat you just kind of look upstairs to the bridge there’s no one behind that wagon wheel that steers about just that red light on saying autopilot well and one of the guys that you allegedly really want to go after uh unfortunately their team just won a game seven yesterday so it’s going to be weeks before you could even engage Conelly the guy from Minnesota and understand Minnesota’s Prime to be good for years to come uh he signed a 5year $40 million deal he’s got an opt out he will want to raise are are we really in the business of paying the president of basketball Ops 15 million a year and the head coach 13 million a year the other one that is emerging and part of it I think there’s a credibility part of it is I have to take a shot because once again the center of the universe is the planet Arn so you’ve heard of Jupiter and nebular and Mars and Uranus and Earth and the moon and then there’s Planet AR Tran Langdon could be your new president of basketball Ops and take a wild effing guess who his agent was when he played in the league the Alaskan assassin take a guess who his agent was that would go on a 5424 run and ASU out that is alltime bad but Minnesota in a game seven Indiana in a game seven the Knicks in a game seven and you start looking around at all these teams that were just as bad as the Pistons a couple years ago all in game sevens all on the precipice of or going to the Conference Finals in their respective conference but it got me thinking I was amped up to watch Indiana and the Knicks and I Know It unraveled Brunson broke his hand anobi ended up not being able to go for more than 10 seconds they’re ravaged by injuries fine but it was a game seven last night you lock in nuggets and play off ant Ant-Man is must C TV and you start going when is the last time we had a game seven in this town and when you start doing the math on it it’s truly unbelievable do you know the last game seven for the Pistons uh let me help you 2005 six basically two decades uh last game seven for the Red Wings Kenny knows this come on Kenny yeah that would have been against Tampa and I think 14 or 15 oh great so a decade ago right uh last game seven for your Detroit baseball Tigers I didn’t realize this I saw this one on the sheet like wow 1968 my my question is and look we can do this multiple ways fellas and if you’re in listener land participate at whatever level you like part of it is when are we going to get a game seven in this town again when when is one of these franchises going to step forward to not only make the playoffs but earn their way into a seven gamer now In fairness to the Tigers you got to make the ALCS to play a seven game set well that’s their that’s their cross to bear hockey basketball I mean look that that’s why the part two of this is it is pretty clear you know the Knicks couple years ago won 21 games they’re in the easn Conference Finals the t-wolves were bad they’re in the the Western Conference Finals um Indiana was every bit as bad as you Orlando was every bit as bad as you Cleveland was every bit as bad as you gu this is okay I watch a show on Netflix I don’t know if this will resonate just hear me out anybody in this room ever watch drive to survive the f one show on Netflix they go behind the scenes it’s fascinating it really is it’s it’s it’s like cars on these lousy F1 teams getting lapped the league is lapping you when teams who are every bit as bad as you are now not just making the playoffs but they’re making meaningful playoff runs Pacers magic Cavaliers uh Minnesota you name O OKC Houston Houston you’re getting lapped I do Wonder has the NBA Playoffs changed your viewpoint on something we’ve brought up that once you’re getting lapped in your rebuild you got to have as Rico puts it the look in the mirror moment it didn’t work and we revisit trade Cade that it’s got to be a rebuild of a rebuild the re rebuild see I’m I’m I’m more concerned Mike those teams lapping you bothers me because they were all sitting at the same little kids table with you at the wedding and then they grew up and now they’re doing stuff what’s going to bother me more is when the teams that are about to hit a rebuild lap you and then they’re good again because I think you could see how Golden State and the Phoenix Suns and even the Lakers they’re on a decline right now they’ll fix this problem and then they’ll be back in there again and we’ll still be talking about the Pistons and can they win 30 games in the season that’s the real thing but right now yeah it absolutely bothers me what I’m talk about seething just watching the the Knicks and Pacers and yet Indiana shot incredibly well almost 70% for the game but I’m watching Halbert and just hit the three and I’m just getting angrier and angrier and angrier CU like could have been a piston could have but the guy you chose buddy every bit all of these players not all but like Donovan Mitchell had an tremendous work out here yeah you he there there was a study done about coachability and toughness and Donovan Mitchell was the number one player in that draft he had an unbelievable secret workout here in Detroit and they didn’t take him Donovan Mitchell lapped you halberton you could have taken him you didn’t lapped you when you start looking at all of these franchises I think you have to begin having a conversation about when they get around actually hiring a basketball Department right there because if you don’t because everybody tells me but Troy Weaver can find Talent can you because well he just doesn’t draft it so what’s the point of finding it if you don’t draft it because I I I’ve yet to see this guy that comes here and just flourishes and just comes out of nowhere you don’t get that no and then when you make your trades you’re basically going out getting broken pieces and hoping to glue them back together and they don’t worked out and again if they want to go out and take a swing and hire Connelly fine you’re going to have to wait to do it if the t-wolves end up in the finals you’re going to be within a couple weeks of the draft I don’t know how you fully get a basketball Department in order um but look bottom line the game seven thing is one part of this it was crazy to watch game sevens yesterday you do think to yourself wow when do we get that again I don’t even remember having it or Hell tonight isn’t it tonight Oilers and and and Vancouver and I know it’s hockey but work with me there’s an opportunity here where a Canadian team no matter who wins we’ll we’ll get an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup for the first time in like 7,000 years but Conor McDavid a breakthrough moment that the greatest player in the league and one of the great players of this generation you want that player in the final and the scene in Edmonton will be electric like I I just don’t even remember what it’s like to have these games whether it’s as a fan a radio host both whatever when will we see it again I mean but if you really think about it and and maybe this is just as a fan base and as a city it’s sad but for the wings we’re talking about can you just make the first round for the Pistons can you be a part of the we have to win two games in the playin tournament just to make the playoffs I’ll accept that now I know we’re talking game seven but heck get get me to that second game in the play in I know that’ll ex that’ll Excel you to the eighth seed to get hammered by Boston I and again I I I know sometimes we throw out too much stuff why you’re giving yourself a bell ring that’s I mean house self for grandite I hit that by mistake I was hitting the car off button self I love you what high five 2485 3997 97 you want to get in on the game seven conversation let’s do it and then the other side of it is watching these game sevens is it making you look at your rebuild whether it’s a being a Redwing fan or a piston fan does it make you look at it differently if you are a piston fan I I I think if you’re not looking in the mirror and and at least pondering or willing to discuss all things including trading Cade then I don’t think you’re looking at it clearly you’ve been lapped the other teams that were every bit as bad as you aren’t just better aren’t just in the playoffs they’re making runs and you’re as bad as you’ve ever been Red Wings it’s different there’s comfort in the incremental Improvement but then there’s discomfort knowing it hasn’t amounted to anything still don’t have a goalie still don’t have a defensive core still don’t have enough Raw Talent specific to scoring and you’re still not really close this was the worst year at the bottom of the Eastern Conference since Inception of new format and you still didn’t make it next year it’s likely five to seven points more difficult I wonder if these game sevens in both leagues a have you yearning for days gone by and B have you thinking differently about the rebuilds we’re enduring
