Miami Heat Mock Offseason: Donovan Mitchell Trades & Free Agent Targets | Miami HEAT Podcast
part two of our mock offseason kicks off with Donovan Mitchell choosing to leave the keeland Cavaliers and how Miami’s potential pursuit of Mitchell will impact Jimmy Butler’s future we retool the roster on today’s episode of Locked on [Music] heat you are locked on heat your daily Miami Heat podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team everyday [Music] yes you’re back locked on heat your everyday podcast on the Miami Heat whether you’re tuning in on YouTube Odyssey or your favorite podcast app thanks for making locked on heat your first listen every day Monday to Friday I’m West Goldberg editor at huken heat.com here with David remill both of us credentialed heat media members excited about part two of today’s Miami Heat mock off season simulation uh so just a recap of where we’re at right now so the heat drafted khil wear in the first round this is all done in part one if you didn’t check that out you can find that on YouTube and on your podcast app they draft Kalo we with the 15th pick and they draft Juan Nunes with the second round pick that they had Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat decided to table contract negotiations the heat unwilling uh at least for now to even entertain the idea of an extension Pat riy making it clear to Jimmy Butler that he’d rather wait until next summer when they really have to make that decision Jimmy Butler and his uh representation deciding you know what uh let’s if you’re not we’d be willing to maybe ask for a trade but we’re going to see whether or not you can improve this roster around us uh both sides uh agreeing to at least table those contract negotiations for now and that brings us to Donovan Mitchell who also decided that he’s not willing to give Cleveland a long-term commitment because they’re not offering the sort of stability and winning environment that he thinks he needs to win at the highest level and so now the Cavaliers are opening up the phone lines they are listening to offers for Donovan Mitchell although not shopping aggressively Donovan Mitchell so we’ve got a few teams that are going to be calling Cleveland in regards to Mitchell the Miami Heat Of course Brooklyn the Lakers and the Pelicans are all expected to be on the phone with Cleveland where do you want to start David should we start with non-heat teams or should we start with the Heats let’s just start with the heat let’s get to their what their their first offer is going to be so we’ve got uh you are you are representing Miami the Miami front office in this exercise I’m representing essentially everybody else I guess involved which is a lot of work but I’ll do my best so all right you call up uh Cleveland Cavaliers GM Kobe Alton and you say what you needed some scoring Off the Bench this season and we think we have the perfect player a proven six-man of the Year candidate a winner a six Man of the Year winner in Tyler hero that can bolster your roster immediately and provide highlevel Elite scoring Off the Bench to make you a much more complete team than what you have now you’re going to keep darus Garland he’s not going to request a trade now that Donovan’s leaving your roster is basically set so you get Tyler hero from us and you get your pick of either H hakz Jr who is a fantastic Wing player and we think is going to be the next Jimmy Butler in terms of his career ceiling or nia yic who is a fantastic 20-year-old player with playmaking ability at 611 he can space the floor a starter at the in the playoffs at age 20 and we can include two first round picks along with that package right there of Tyler and either one of haime or Nico and then how many picks two so not including kware who you just selected correct so your picks are in 2029 and 2031 um okay any swaps would you be willing to include swaps sure okay we would want all the swaps okay fair enough that was easy um all right so we’re talking about hero Hae uh in order to get some of the uh to meet some of the uh salary matching standards we’re going to need two more small contracts from you so we’re looking at Orlando Robinson’s non-g guaranteed deal you can let Orlando Robinson know that he’d be included in the trade and then probably waved before the before the start of the season and then um we’re going to need uh did Thomas Bryant opt out he opted out right he opted out so you guys no longer have him so we’re gonna need Josh Richardson who opted in in order to facilitate this trade I mean it’s non-negotiable otherwise it doesn’t work for the CBA or if I include an extra first round pick no well you can include you can include khil wear and that that satisfies it because you if once you sign him to his $5 million contract and we would love to have kware no I think I’m I’m more comfortable including Orlando Robinson and Josh richardon at this point time all right so then the deal that you have offered us is Tyler hero haime Josh Orlando two first round picks and two swaps okay very good uh we’ll let you know ding that’s the that’s the sound of the phone hanging up he a ding I guess I don’t know I don’t know you don’t hear anything I guess it’s on an iPhone now these days so it’s just probably just there’s no sound okay conference call yeah you speaker for you think they conference call they probably conference call I see why not yeah who conference calls all right uh now we got to figure out who’s who so do you want to why don’t you be I don’t know why don’t we just kind of go through this uh the Lakers are calling Kobe Alton and ring ring hey this is Rob pinka that’s been nice hang up boom done no Lakers conversation no Lakers conversation no no no no please he text he texts Kobe Alman come on come on Austin Reeves R hamura and two future first round picks and we even include who we took this year and he’s like yep no thanks pass I mean that’s really it right like they can’t really they could throw in a Jaylen Hood chafino who they picked last year it’s like okay what about LeBron James okay Kobe Alman says what about LeBron James and then Rob Linka is like why don’t you be serious and then he hangs up too so there’s no there’s no agreement there all right moving on uh the Brooklyn Nets are calling Kobe Alman picks up the Brooklyn Nets offer cam Johnson The One and Only and four first round picks and I think they have to include something else they’ have to include another contract such as um like a Dennis shuder or a Dorian Smith so they’re gonna offer Dorian Smith cam Johnson that’ll do it yeah Dorian Smith and cam Johnson so Cleveland gets their wings and four first round picks uh their first round picks as a reminder are owed by them so they’ve got a 2025 pick uh from Phoenix they’ve got a Philadelphia pick in 2027 um a phoenix pick in 2027 and then they don’t have their own they can’t trade their own pick until 2029 where they have their own and a phoenix pick they have a Dallas pick in 2029 U and then they have their own pick also in 2030 so they’d be willing to include four of those but like the Phoenix pick I don’t know what that’s going to be worth the Dallas pick I don’t know what that’s going to be worth the Brooklyn pick that’s probably going to be a little bit better but I’m only getting one or two of those Brooklyn picks if I’m Cleveland in this in this package um so that’s the offer what do you think about that cam Johnson I think yeah I think it might be a better deal for Cleveland than what Miami would offer well you’re not getting anybody with the upside of hero or him fair enough so you’re so it really comes down to the difference of like like cam Johnson’s almost a negative asset on that contract doony Smith’s a good player but it’s like so it’s like do you want the picks or do you want the high upside players right now which is a fair question because it’s not like Tyler hero is like an awesome contract either at 29 million so so losing Donovan Mitchell yeah it’s an interesting question with Donovan Mitchell gone now you’re might not necessarily be a contender but with whatever roster Acquisitions you have or you can make in the trade for Mitchell you could still be in playoff contention and maybe even again we just talked about this in the last episode you know there is the possibility for a team to break break out of the Eastern Conference given the parody and if you’re able to capitalize and get lucky on an injury situation etc for Cleveland’s plan would it be better for them to have Tyler and haime Josh Etc and be able to still get picks from Miami those guys being I think more ready made players and also possessed more upside I don’t know that is an interesting I think if you’re Cleveland I would if I’m Cleveland I wanted I just made the second round of the playoffs and I pushed Boston and then Donovan Mitchell missed two games right I don’t want to take a step back I got my guy I got Evan Moy that’s my dude we’re gonna sign him to an extension this summer like I want to build around him perhaps Darius growland perhaps not maybe I entertain and trade for him too they could trade both of these guys um they have the Jared Allen thing that they could either keep or maybe move him for pieces that work around Moy like I don’t know if I’m Cleveland I just made the made the second round of the playoffs the first time since LeBron left for the first time without LeBron since the’80s like I’m not ready to take a step back I want to stay a playoff Contender so what is a 2029 pick from Phoenix doing for me you know like give me give me the guys help TR package yeah they’re more able to contribute towards winning right now I think so like the Dorian fin Smith piece is a nice one but it’s but like the guy’s like 30 whatever he is Cam Johnson isn’t really a needle mover tyah hero can bolster my Ben unit Hae hakas Jr is probably not as good as cam Johnson or DFS right now but can get better and I like that and and his like I’m not looking for 30-year-olds I’m looking for guys who fit Mo’s window but I don’t want to take that major step back either so I’m not I’m not I’m not even necessar arguing on behalf of Miami’s package here because there’s going to be other packages that probably are better than that in terms of win now but if I’m Cleveland I want the I want more of a win Now package that’s I want to kind of threat like a total line of young guys who can help me win right now but I’d prefer good young players over draft picks in 2030 so you seem ready to accept Miami’s offer I’m not I want to hear more offers I want to hear more offers tickets lowest price guaranteed I want to hear from from uh the New Orleans Pelicans cuz they’re calling they’re ready to shake things up our old friend David Griffin calls calls up Kobe Alman I’m sure that relationship is cozy um he offers Brandon Ingram and they have up to six first round picks that they can trade that might actually be valuable the question is whether or not New Orleans sees Mitchell as they’re all in move because they have Zion Griff has been very upfront about wanting to shake things up it doesn’t seem like Brandon Ingram is staying there he’s going to get traded this summer it feels like that’s a done deal he’s only got one year left on his contract next year expiring contract at $36 million so that works straight up like they could just trade Ingram for Mitchell and and get to the salary salary cap matching right away they don’t have to include any other things they also have guys like Dyson Daniels that they can include in a deal Jordan Hawkins that they can include in a deal they’d be unwilling I would imagine to include guys like Trey Murphy or herb Jones and obviously not Zion so if you’re the Pelicans you also have those picks coming from the Lakers perhaps this year or next year they still haven’t decided on what they’re going to do with that they have a Milwaukee pick in 2025 a Milwaukee pick in 2027 and then all of their own first round picks going forward so they’re okay first round picks I should say they weren’t great they’re not great first- round picks they’re okay first round picks but they have like six of them that they can offer I think so so I’m David Griffin I’m calling Kobe Alman I got Brandon Ingram you’re going to have to figure out the extension with him but we also are willing to include four first round picks now you’re Kobe Alman and you said I traded Lowry Markin and Colin ston agbaji who is our first round pick that year and three first round picks for Donovan Mitchell I understand I’m going to get I’m going to have to shave off of what I sent out a little bit here but three first round picks and two good players marinin who turned out to be an All-Star but we didn’t know that we kind of screwed the pooch on that one and agbaji who may or may not be an NBA player so I’m getting four first round picks back more than I sent out plus a fringy All-Star kind of player and Brandon Ingram that’s at least interesting to me but now you have to get to the point of well now we’re in the same situation with Ingram would he sign an extension with us I think if Cleveland were to come to Ingram and offer him something close to the max my guess is he would accept based on the down year he just had or he would bet on himself and try to enter a free agency next summer which if that were the case if I’m Cleveland I don’t want anything to do with that right because that’s what I’m risking with Donovan Mitchell right now is I don’t want these guys to enter free agency I want to keep him with the extension so quickly what do you think Ingram would do he had a down year he was very open about that so if he got offered close to Ma if he got offered Max money he would sign it but if he I don’t I don’t know that Cleveland wants to give INR Max but if he got offered close to Max money that at least is a interesting thing for him to consider yeah I think he’d take it I think he would and I mean I think he recognizes that the situation in New Orleans is probably untenable like it’s just not something you can continue to build off and he probably needs a get another fresh start and see and maybe Cleveland might be that place and again he goes into a better situation where he’s carved out a name and yet he’s getting bigger money but they’ve already got a fairly established roster he’s not looked at as the future or the guy who has to carry the team for that they’ve got Garland for that they’ve got Mobley he can kind of slid in there slide in there and be a little bit more complimentary to those guys I imagine he would probably start at the three with Max stru sliding down to the two alongside Garland and mo so I mean it’s an interesting opposition and I think he’d be willing to explore it and if I’m Cleveland I have to consider paying Brandon Ingram north of $40 million a year now is essentially what I’m committing to for three or four more which again you know that you’re not going to be able to lure a lot of free agents there in the future seems yeah so that you might have your roster set for the next few years as well this is really interesting to me if I’m Cleveland but I do have one phone call that I want to make outgoing call to the Houston Rockets in Rafael Stone over there hey you guys want to make that leap to uh playoff Contender playoff uh Team would you be willing to include jayen green Dylan Brooks Steven Adams tar een and a first round pick for Donovan Mitchell what do you think the Rockets say I don’t think they’ do it me neither I think they say we’re good we’re not in a rush to Shake It Up Donovan Mitchell’s a very good player but that’s not the player that we we’re willing to go all in for right now yeah all right that’s why I had that that good as an outgoing call not necessarily been offering it yep um all right so those are the pck so uh We’ve eliminated the Lakers we don’t like the Brooklyn pick if we’re Cleveland or the Brooklyn package we’re not into it we we say hey we want maau Bridges Brooklyn says absolutely not and then they move on right so you as c as Kobe Alman is weighing between Miami and New Orleans basically in terms I’m going to call Miami back so now I’m Kobe Alman I call Miami back Hey listen we got a killer deal from the Pelicans that we are tempted to accept we’ve got it pretty good that we think we can sign Brandon Ingram to a contract extension they would be sending us Ingram in four first round picks in exchange for Donovan Mitchell and I think we’re going to be able to get Dyson Daniels from them too we feel pretty good about that that’s better than what you offered us that’s better than Brandon Ingram is a better player than Tyler herro H hakz Jr is a good young player that we’d be excited about getting but if we’re able to get Dyson Daniels we feel just as good about Daniels as we do about hawz and they have four first round picks and you have two and you’re not you’re not willing to include khil wear and we understand that but right now we were thinking about going with that Pelican’s offer unless you can beat it Miami doesn’t have anything else to offer we don’t have as Miami he’s representative aside from the addition of where I mean where and nicoa yovic yic would be the guy that’s giving up we’re very excited about yic we think he’s got a very high ceiling and and then this is you know this is the problem and again for a lot of Heat fans I think it’s a slam dunk deal or whatever that it’s so easy to negotiate it is not like Miami has to weigh the acquisition of Mitchell as good as that would as good as that would make Miami with the loss of hero who’s a valuable role player if you want to call him that haime hakz who’s a valuable role player Nica yovic who’s a valuable role player and three first round picks yeah I’m sure Cleveland would take that deal I don’t think Miami can afford to make it even for a superstar of Mitchell’s caliber so you’re saying no I’m Kobe Alman you’re the Heats front office and you’re saying no I can’t I can’t Envision a world where they feel comfortable trading that much for Mitchell because then basically you’re look looking at a roster of what Mitchell Terry Rosier Jimmy Butler Bam Bam bio Duncan Robinson Kevin Love Like that’s fine but it’s also really thin and I don’t know that you’ve got even the the g-league players in the wings like Jamal Kane will get more minutes you know you have a first round pick every other year right I mean you’ve sensely traded all your first round picks because of steppan rule you can’t trade them in back toback years so you still have a first- round pick every other year to replenish is is the big three of Mitchell Jimmy assuming Jimmy can stay healthy and bamama a bio enough alongside Duncan and Terry Rosier to compete for a championship in the Eastern Conference it’s enough to compete yeah it is enough I don’t know that it’s enough to win and I don’t know that Miami can afford to give up on all those young players and all those pick too because that is a huge mortgaging of the future but at the same time it also cost you your future with Jimmy Butler potentially because he doesn’t want to be part of he doesn’t want to be the witness to another almost potential trade acquisition of a superstar so so this is because right going back to our Jimmy Butler negotiation Jimmy said I will I would be willing to take less money perhaps if you’re able to go get that second star and this basically keeps Donovan if you get Don Mitchell it keeps Jimmy Butler in Miami for slightly less money than the max but if you don’t pull off this trade and include Nika yovic and all these things then not only do you not get Donovan Mitchell but you also strongly risk losing Jimmy Butler if you’re not willing to pay him the max right then you’re backed into a corner a little bit a little bit um I want Jimmy’s take on it I would I would as a e front office and I understand it’s kind of maybe it doesn’t work that way for this exercise but I would want to get Jimmy’s perspective on that whether or not he thinks I would bet he just says go get Donovan Mitchell as much as he loves Nico and haime he’s like I can go play with Donovan Mitchell who scores 30 points a game and then you’re going to be less on my ass to score all the time that sounds great that sounds great I would bet he says yes um because this is what he’s asking for right he wants the star player Today’s Show is brought to you by better help there’s a good chance that right back uh ring ring this is uh Ty Sullivan from CAA calling the Heats front office um look we want Donovan Mitchell to end up in Miami oh yeah we’re just letting you know we would be we think you guys should pull off the deal Donovan Mitchell as great as he’s been in Utah and his great as he’s been in Cleveland and look he just scored 70 points during the regular season 50 points in a playoff game who knows what would have happened in that Celtics series had he been healthy they would have lost but we think that he could be the next superstar in Miami you guys would be willing to give him the max extension is that right yes okay we’re going to take that to just so between you and us Donan Mitchell won’t sign an extension in New Orleans he doesn’t want to be in New Orleans he’s been in small markets he’s done it in Utah and been competitive he’s done it in Cleveland and been very competitive he doesn’t want to go to New Orleans he has no interested in that market keep stand your ground with Kobe Alman just so you know this is just between you and I but Donovan Mitchell wants to be in Miami don’t include yic in that deal we think we can get this done we’re going to talk New Orleans out of making this trade capish yeah yeah right all right this is ca calling the New Orleans Pelicans listen Don Mitchell’s not resigning there don’t do this deal okay uh David Griffin hangs up we can’t do the deal Kobe Alman calls up heat front office Hey listen we’re really we got some really great offers we got some other buyers out on the market but um if you’d be willing to incl include Nico I think we could pull the trigger on this this afternoon no I think he’s our Lich pit of our future and the perfect complimentary player alongside Jimmy Butler and Donovan Mitchell but you do get that extra first round pick that you were requesting before so I think that’s where you’d be willing to include the three first round picks so you’re you’re trading us khil we and then the two first round picks alongside Tyler and himim hackin Jr and then we also need Josh and orl oh no and so you would keep Josh in Orlando correct could we get the swaps from you one pick swap it was two two pick swaps before I know we’re making one now we’ll call you right back hey Brooklyn would you want to include maau Bridges still no okay crap all right Houston no not answering my calls uh Lakers about that LeBron James thing no gez um all right I’m Kobe Alman call up Pat Riley Pat you have a deal so the final trade is Donovan Mitchell to Miami luckily CAA called it and let us know exactly how they were gonna play it out that’s how it works it does if they see that Miami is the place for their client to expand their brand and make more money because they get more money on the back end hell yeah is it better for Donovan Mitchell to be a part of a big three and potentially win a championship with a retooled roster Miami yeah in a big market and everything yes yes yes with established stars like Jimmy and Jimmy didn’t get hotels.com ads when he was in Minnesota good point uh yeah carrying the team in Brooklyn they’re not gonna win probably and they’re not going to offer the same kind of opportuni so is it more important for Donovan to get that bigger brand be the superstar that he thinks he is or to be closer to home that’s an interesting point this is exactly what what these kind of it is I don’t I think he would be willing to I I would guess because it’s New York not Mitch from New York that he’d be willing to the thing the thing is the Brooklyn Nets are not the New York Knicks like it’s one thing playing at home for the Knicks it’s another thing playing it’s like it’s like going to like you know growing it’s like going to like the big college in your hometown versus going to a community college it’s like all right yeah maybe I don’t want to stay at home for the Community College I wanted to stay at home to go to the University of Miami you know like that’s I didn’t want to and so it’s a little bit like that so so um and then plus the Cavs have to agree to the package and I just don’t see what Brooklyn has if they’re not willing to include M Bridges and I do think it would be worth exploring that if you’re Brooklyn to trade Macau Bridges but then you risk Mitchell not resigning there if Mel Bridges isn’t there because Mitchell’s not going to be stoked about playing with Cam Thomas and cam Johnson like he doesn’t want that no it’s a bad roster it’s a bad roster so um so there we go we got donin Mitchell in Miami for Tyler herro Hae hawz Jr khil wear two first round picks and a swap going to Cleveland now we come back to Jimmy Butler hey look what we just did or no I guess that’s you and now I’m Jimmy Butler I’m Jimmy Butler and Bernie Lee in the situation so let’s begin this let’s ret talking these negotiations so our our our feeling is that you would opt out him next year but you increase your window now with the addition of Mitchell it’s going to help your longevity we feel like we can be a title Contender we didn’t give up a lot of assets in order to acquire Mitchell and we feel we can make the right changes around this big three of you Donovan and Bam would you be willing to accept a two-year deal for $80 million for $40 million a year so you’re asking me to give up $13 million next season absolutely not but you get the extra year for 40 million I could probably make 40 million even going into my next season that year as a free agent I’m not going to I’m not going to take $13 million off my salary next year no thanks I you know I think personally personally and this is outside of the exercise I think Jimmy would take that money for the extra year at $40 million like you give up $50 million or 52 whatever 53 whatever that might next be2 for 80 million yeah one year at 53 plus whatever he can get as a free agent the following year or $80 million and he can stay in Miami and he can he can continue to be a part of everything that they’re going to accomplish here with some kind of Clauses written in again similar causes to to what we talked about before in terms of meeting games played criteria and an NBA championship criteria make it make it two years 90 same Clauses same unlikely bonus Clauses to year 85 David can you just do even 42.5 million a year 42.5 million a year we need to have that more luxury we need to have a little bit more flexibility and in terms of signing players Etc we expect the cap to go up it’s not about that you’ve got your reputation cemented you’re a star already you’re going to get your money either here through endorsements and everywhere else but we want to give you still asking me to take $10 million off that player option here and I don’t know that I’m willing to do it 45 year for one of the Mount Rushmore players in organization history you need me to make this D the Mitchell trade worth it I can go two years 87 you get 45 the first 42 the second 88 unlikely bonuses that get me up to the max 87 that’s where we draw the line at a million yeah we don’t want this to go down a dark path you get your money you get your stability we keep you long term you win a championship here in Miami $435 million a year on average you’re still asking me to give up $10 million get me under that $10 million threshold two year 88 fine all right two years $88 million to resign Jimmy Butler ridiculous this whole thing is so stupid all right so now we enter free agency uh we could do this part relatively quickly because it’s almost impossible to do so we have some other characters out there either the Atlanta Hawks and Trey Young have their whole thing going on the Clippers with Paul George and James Harden LeBron James has his situation the Warriors have what they’ve got going on I want to quickly hit that stuff with just some predictions on what’s going to happen because it does sort of impact Miami does here so Atlanta they end up just keeping Trey young they don’t trade him they trade Deonte Murray somewhere else Atlanta stays in with Trey young in the division the Clippers bring back Paul George and James Harden so the Sixers are a little so now because they didn’t get Jimmy Butler and they did not get Paul George LeBron James Bram or they they did not get Brandon inam either unless they call Cleveland and try to get that into a four team three- team trade um LeBron James this leverage thing has been cute sitting courts side in Cleveland has been nice uh he gets the no trade clause that he wants ends up returning to the Lakers the Warriors resign Klay Thompson and then they wave Chris Paul in order to facilitate that and reduce payroll they try to sh they try to shop Chris Paul around it doesn’t work nobody wants him at $30 million even non guaranteed there’s nobody there’s nobody out there with a huge enough salary dump that makes sense for Golden State to take on that extra money so the Warriors are just going to go out and wave Chris Paul so Chris Paul now becomes a free agent unrestricted free agent um we’ve got Chris Paul and some other free agents that I want to talk about Tobias Harris Jonas valent chunis Kyle Anderson Gordon Hayward and Kelly UB now the heat are right up against the second tax apron still after all these trades they did not necessarily reduce payroll here so the kalea Martin thing he’s going to go sign the mle somewhere else the heat don’t have that kind of money uh they were not able to clear uh money in this trade they and they can’t really get into the conversation with any of these guys who I think would be at the top of the list whether it’s a jonis valent chunis or a Tobias Harris or something like that but we they he were able to keep nikol yovic so right now what is Miami starting lineup it’s Donovan Mitchell Tera Rosier Jimmy Butler yovic bam and you still have Duncan Robinson coming off the bench Kevin Love and Kevin Love coming off the bench Josh Richardson and Josh Richardson and I I suppose Orlando Robinson for now on that non- guaranteed deal so that’s right um we have other free agents that we could talk about Miami z d Wright Patty Mills uh Haywood heith are we able to negotiate a deal with um like who who would you of that group is who do you want to try to bring back here from Miami’s free aent my targets would be Delon Wright and Haywood Heisman okay uh I will take on Delon Wright’s uh representation now you get a better a minimum deal all right uh you have I mean that’s all you that’s all the he’d have so um uh Heywood heith now that I don’t know how much we can’t potentially offer anything beyond so you do have you you have the bird rights on heith I believe we can’t go past it for Haywood High you can go you can go a little bit past and I think without having to check the salary cap table here you have probably if you wave Orlando Robinson you probably have about like4 to5 million but that’s before you fill out the rest of the roster right so you could still go over the veteran minimum to bring back high Smith but it still caps it’s still counts towards going up against that second tax apron we can’t resign Haywood um we were uh Haywood will Circle back if he doesn’t get a more lucrative offer elsewhere um and he does so Haywood heith is gone okay so I don’t know where he ends up Sacramento uh good for him I would be willing to look among the the rest of the core free agents there that we mentioned yes I think Kelly UB you can add as a free agent I think you could also add let let pick one we’ll start we’ll pick one and we’ll start the negotiation let’s start with UB I think he’s a more valuable player at this point well look the Sixers missed out on Paul George they missed out on LeBron they missed out on Jimmy Butler they missed out on Brandon Ingram they’re gonna go ahead and bring Kelly UB back uh at five or $ six million do a year or something so he’s gonna we we appreciate the call but I don’t think you guys can afford US so Gordon Hayward it is so Gordon you call up Gordon hayward’s representation they said look we understand where Gordon Hayward is at this stage of his career he would be willing to sign with you at the veteran minimum but he’s going to want to play he didn’t play in Oklahoma City and he was frustrated by it he believes he could still contribute is this is he going to be an everynight role player for you guys there is an opportunity for him to prove that yes do you view him as a small forward or a power forward at the stage of his career or both both I’ll bring it back to Gordon uh Gordon we had a hell of a pitch a few years ago I mean I know yeah you remember that uh what was it 20 uh what was that 2016 no 2014 no 2015 it was it might after LeBron left yeah it might have been like 2018 actually I maybe right whatever uh Gordon Hayward it was it was because he it was the the first game he got hurt with the Bost of Celtics was against the CL Cavaliers Dwayne Wade yeah so it was 2018 so it was 2018 I remember I remember uh I was in Texas uh when that news broke it was Fourth of July remember he like waited a whole thing on July 5th he said or maybe late on July Fourth he accepted I think I was in Orlando summer league I don’t know that was quite an experience there all right so the Heat have added Gordon Hayward at the minimum Heywood High Smith walks um Jonas valent chunis signed it signed Elsewhere for the tax pair mid level exception that he cannot afford Tobias Harris uh is signed elsewhere at the tax parid level exception at somewhere the heat can’t afford kyin Anderson after winning a championship with the Minnesota Timberwolves decided to resign with Minnesota and uh and uh look we just got a phone call from Chris Paul oh okay Chris Paul says if you’d be if you could clear out enough money we would sign with you for the taxpayer some around the the taxpayer mid-level exception at $6 million a year for one year on a pro it deal but we’re going to want to play and you can’t afford it right now but so you have to clear out some money no all right not interested um okay so there it is that’s essentially standard you offer standard contracts at Jamal Kane and Cole schwier standard contracts to both of them what about alandis Williams no he’s still on a two-way okay so then we’ve got Cole swier on the contract Jamal Kane on a standard contract that means you’ve got if I have we kept Josh Richardson right yes so that’s 12 players under contract with Terry Rosier dlon Wright Donovan Mitchell Duncan Robinson Josh Richardson Cole swier Jimmy Butler Gordon Hayward Jamal Kane Nik yic bam adab bio and Kevin Love um probably need to add another another Center and probably another forward of some kind and I the heat can figure that part out uh so I think that’s essentially for the most part the mock off season yeah yeah so now are you starting Rosier with Mitchell or do you bring Rosier Off the Bench I think you bring Rosier Off the Bench you start dunking alongside Mitchell I like that from spacing purposes I think I’m with you there and then you’ve got Rosier coming off the bench Delon Wright as an occasional rotation player but not an every night rotation player Josh rson as your backup guard and Gordon Hayward honestly if you go out and find like a decent big on the minimum which they’re out there they’re always out there um Thomas Bryant will he come back all right maybe Thomas Bryant comes back Hey Thomas another one in one buddy um Donovan Mitchell Duncan Robinson Jimmy Butler Nicola yovic and Bam adabo as you’re starting five you’ve got Rosier as your super six man uh Josh Richardson and Gordon Hayward Off the Bench and then you’ve probably got still Kevin Love one more year as your primary backup center and then whether it’s Thomas Bryant coming back or somebody else um as an option there you could still keep Orlando Robinson that’s an option keep the guy there maybe that’s what it is um and then uh and you probably still need to add another big just for B I and then uh and to fill out the depth chart but that’s so you probably have to add two more guys but that’s pretty much it all right it’s a better roster and you squashed any problems with Jimmy because you got him to his extension number that he wanted you acquired Mitchell and it didn’t cost you everything that you had available to you because of the fortunate nature of of Donovan not wanting to play in New Orleans but I think it works I think it I think a lot of Heat fans would be happy in that sense because you retain jimy and you also acquire another superstar in Mitchell is that enough to knock off Boston it could be in a playoff series you get that one uh Gordon Hayward Revenge game who knows I I don’t think that’s realistic but I don’t know yeah it’s unfortunate to not have the potential to add a a floor spacing big that could change the dynamic for what Miami can do like to give him that kind of optionality too that we talked about so it’s uh if there’s somebody available perhaps as a another trade uh yeah as another trade or as a a guy you can sign as an undrafted free Aiden or something yeah sure I mean they could certainly kind of get into that whole realm of it and they do usually scour the undrafted free agent part we know that there’ll be g- League guys that they keep an eye on and they invite to training camp and all these things sure um there will be veterans who take the minimum right that we haven’t really gone down the whole list of free agents here but that’s essentially the core group and I think it’s a really good group and I think it makes a lot of sense and by the way um there’s still opportunities there to maybe trade somebody like T Rosier who’s making 20 plus million dollars off the bench for you you and I have discussed this before Rosier probably not a guy who gets traded this summer because of the concerns with his neck injury but if he comes out and plays the first two months of the season and Miami has a good offer there in in January or February before the deadline and that’s something that they can sort of do is maybe move Ros here for some help in the front court or or somewhere else on the roster so there’s still some optionality between this build and and what happens at the trade deadline so um and still like also you can always try to salary dump one of these guys too to create some space and maybe go after somebody like Chris Paul wanted with the mid-level exception or something like that so a ton of options that Miami could potentially have obviously we have no idea how it plays out but according to this simulation the heat end up walking away with Donovan Mitchell Jimmy Butler coming back bam out a bio who signed the extension this summer by the way we didn’t get to that um and all of that so uh that’ll do it for our first locked on Heat Miami Heat mock off season thanks for making locked on heat your David with no beard is spooky 😂 took me off guard
Finally the heat got another big with KEL"EL WARE! Lets go heat! Get #DONAVANMITCHELLE! 🔥
🔥🔥🔥
Trading for these stars are not it, it barely works . Build a team with free agency and the draft we dont need to trade our young prospects
that was hilarious
anchoring yourself to a Jimmy window kills how strong your negotiating leverage can be. shouldn't do business that way, margin of error is microscopic.
No Niko Wes 😂😂😂
David Take It and trade the rest of Roster for Capela including Burnie. 😂
Are the Pelicans willing to trade for Donovan Mitchell without a commitment from him that he will sign a contract extension with them? I don't think he will sign an extension with them.
Miami Heat draft Zach Edey and in the 2nd round Justin Edwards or Alex Karaban. Trade Herro and future first round pick for Mitchell or Malik Monk or Dejounte Murray. Sign KCP or Derrick Jones. Let caleb and highsmith go or sign and trade them for picks. Use those picks to get Donovan. Sign Jonas and Malik Beasley or another defender and scorer. Maybe even trying a 3 team trade Pelicans get Jarrett Allen and picks , Brandon Ingram, Herro, and Jaime to Cavs, and Donovan Mitchell and Jonas via sign and trade to Heat. Also, picks going in the right direction to the teams to get this deal done.
How about a 3 team trade to send Herro to Brooklyn who has had interest in him which will send a first from them to Cleveland, trade Jovic, Orlando and Dorian Finney to Cleveland. Spyda to Miami.
That Cancun life have you guys very happy I see! 🤣
Another small team. We need to get bigger. I love the ideas you guy have but we need size.
I can get CP3 for 6 millions
I think the odds are pretty good we land Spida Mitchell! I hearing Cleavland likes our Jaime Jaquez a lot!
Mitchell has to want to extend with the Pels, there is no report that he ever wanted to play for them. He wanted Miami or New York. So these teams will NOT trade all these assets.
Miami & Nets are the front runners, if Mitchell list hasn't changed. .
Edit
ok, ok… You went into the fact that he wouldn't re-sign 🤣
New Orleans would have to be pretty certain Donovan is willing to extend there to offer that deal, are we sure he would?
If the point of this exercise was to make you feel better good job. Now let’s get back to reality here please.
Been wanting donovan since he was in Utah. He reminds of d wade. I hope we do get him. It will suck losing Jamie but we need this win now mode while jimmy has some gas left in the tank.
I’m a Miami heat and cavs fan and if I’m the cavs I’m asking for Tyler hero, Jaime, jovic, and this years draft pick. Not taking no more or no less than that personally
Where do they talk about the mock draft lol this whole thing is Mitchell and jimmy bulter lol can I get a time snap of each of there topics please 🙏
