we are back bottom of the hour here on get up and the next game is called fact or fiction the Nick season has come to an end I’ve got a bunch of statements to make Drea if I said Jaylen Brunson needs another star for that team to become a title Contender is that fact or fiction I would say it is a fact now this star does not have to be the onea Jaylen Brunson can lead this team and be the best player on the team but to get to the finals and compete against the talent that is coming out of the West for years to come another star is what the Knicks need I’m going to come back to that one as we go but Allan you’re next if I said the Knicks coach Tom tho plays his starters too many minutes is that fact or fiction well it’s fiction because most of his starters weren’t even playing they were hurt I mean that’s part of the problem good point who are you going to play after a while they were looking at Wally zerak and me saying can you suit up there was nobody available Monica’s the better shooter though they probably should have put her in uniform yeah I mean know I mean it but that’s a good point their starters weren’t their starters by the time it all came to an end meanwhile Monica if I were to say if healthy this Nick team and I mean fully healthy would have beaten Boston and gone to the finals is that fact or fiction baby it’s F greeny and let me just remind you why Julius Randall is an Allstar a 25 and9 guy you would have had Mitchell Robinson who’s the best offensive rebounder in the league and was a terrific shot blocker prior to those first couple of injuries you’re talking about four guys back in the rotation and this Celtics Squad had not met the version of the Knicks that included OG and anobi by the way 26 and5 when OG was healthy yes let’s get it that’s right fully operational Death Star saying that in the Celtic is dress is just a little yeah it’s very green by the way that is the story of the season for the Knicks or the finish of the season anyway is all about the injuries obviously but do not look to Draymond Green for any sympathy this is what he had to say about it on his podcast I actually like did just four times I kind of know what it takes and I know what it looks like and I know everybody’s going to be like oh man like they got hurt and guy got hurt and like that’s a part of it right like when KD got hurt and Klay got hurt like nobody’s like oh man them guys got hurt so what we feel bad for the Warriors like when we won in 2015 nobody be like oh man Kyrie was hurt and got hurt during the series and Kevin like you got a play who on the court so let’s not even like go there actually I think we should go there we’re going to need to go here because because he’s right when he says no one was talking about that he’s right assuming that by no one he means literally everyone every I mean I was sitting in this chair when those guys got hurt and every one of us said and we were not alone oh if Kevin Durant hadn’t gotten hurt if clay well Klay got hurt at the very very end of it if K Durant hadn’t gotten hurt Not only would they have won that series but they would have won every Championship until they decided to stop doing it yeah the dynasty era wouldn’t be dead I mean literally everyone was saying it you were in the league when this was happening people notice the injuries right and they say well if it hadn’t been for that now you want to say 50 years from now history will just say the Raptors won the 2018 or whatever it was 19 Championship where this year the Knicks didn’t make it to the third round sure that’s fair but in the moment everyone was saying it think draymond’s confusing the fact that we were all impressed by the run that kawhai had with that team and I think we always talk about that and instead of understanding you know yeah of course those guys went down that’s why they won in the finals but you know he’s yall take this so serious Draymond just be saying like first of all Draymond might be Canadian and maybe that’s why all he heard was that what they were saying in Canada but most of the media was chasing down Klay Thompson’s injury was trying to find out where’s Kevin what’s Kevin going to do now is he going to leave the Warriors that was the biggest story but don’t let facts get in the way of a good story for Draymond and his podcast I unfollowed it right at that point subscribe you can’t do that no he’s going to spend a week on TNT talking about the Conference Finals and I I don’t even know if I can trust what he’s saying because he’s completely rewriting history there’s no way anybody wasn’t talking about those injuries just like there was a lot of people defending LeBron James when he lost when all he had was him and Matthew delova trying to win a championship I continue to say that LeBron should have been the MVP of that final despite the fact that they lost you go they lost that series LeBron James LED all teams in every category because he had to he had delova and they actually won two games in that series when they had no business love got hurt Kyrie Irving got hurt yes I mean context does matter it did matter then and it does matter now I’m just sitting here like look at the names at the bottom of the screen like the amount even if what Draymond is saying is true which we’ve already decided it isn’t those situations that he named still aren’t close to the number of injuries that the Knicks say four of your eight man rotation it’s more of an impact single impact they might have more names on this list but I would rather have Klay Thompson and uh Kevin Kevin Durant that time compared to all those guys well that’s fair but actually the team of guys that we just put up there would have beaten the Knicks like right if you took the Knicks who didn’t play and played against the Knicks who did play that would be a sweep J swing down the stretch this so I think this is a microcosm of like what it is to be truly in it right like because K excuse me kawh lonard gets credit as the one guy at least every time I tell the story that has been able to add water year one win a championship right and so for the Warriors for that camp you’re right it’s like everybody talked about Kawai and overlooked the injury piece I personally am always pointing out that the one time that this super team thing Add Water win championship worked and the injuries were a huge part of how that story goes down so I kind of get where Draymond is coming from but I was also like no bro he made all that up yeah no that’s what you’re you’re saying exactly what I said you know he’s getting caught up in he’s getting caught up in us just giving the amount of respect that we did to kawhai and the Raptors for making that run Len every team needs luck people get injured but we all know that if Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant were healthy that that series would have went five games look look our job is to apply the context their job is to play and and our job is to point out the the things like that the reality is the Warriors would have won another championship if Draymond didn’t get suspended in the middle of that Series against the Cavs they would have there’s no question they were up three they would have won that series they absolutely would have won the series when they lose k against the Raptors and again they would just have continued winning until they themselves decided to stop that is I mean is any part of that even debatable I I I think we two more titles for them if you think about it but I’m just going back again to exactly what he’s saying which is everybody was talking about that nobody was talking about our injuries which is completely false and a ridiculous statement to make so Stephen A’s got Kg on his show on Stephen a show and they were talking Stephen A sets the question up to kg by saying do the Knicks need another star another a-level player a 1A with Jaylen Brunson to go on and win a championship and Kevin Garnett as you will hear here says no they don’t they already have one man Julius Randle is a 25- 10 guy I love Randle but he ain’t the number one option though you tripping because you know what happens when you bring in a superstar you bring somebody else it’s you got that Superstar you gotta you gotta intertwine him in with the fabric of what the Knicks are the Knicks are gritty and they gruty they play for 408 they in your you know they they tears if you can’t fit that the Nicks are perfect the Nicks should not be [Music] touched listen we got this question preparing for the show my first answer was depends on the health of Julius Randle in terms of needing to add and I get where Stephen A is coming from but I agree that the balance the identity Wendy sat up here all last week talked about how this team rides for tips the balance in that locker room and in that organization in terms of how we win is something that needs to be protected you cannot just add insert double double guy and let’s roll out it has to be protected yeah listen first off Julius Randle is a guy that we constantly sweep under the rug I think the success they had with OG and the record people are like oh they can win without him people forget that in the playoffs when the game slows down you need another guy that you can throw the ball to and just send simply say go get a basket all right and Jay Le Brunson simply like ran out of gas obviously he got hurt but eventually he probably would have they had to he had to have 30 just for them to be competitive every night um this team fully healthy is really really good man in an NBA that’s wide open we just talked about a Dynasty’s dead there’s no team right now that’s just dominating the NBA the team that we thought just was vulnerable as hell they just lost in Minnesota uh in Denver so we look at right now if the Knicks are fully healthy they could absolutely compete with Boston and and possibly win um do they need to make a move this offseason you can always get better Boston did that a couple years ago when they got rid of Marcus Smart no one really thought that was going to happen people thought he was going to be a lifer but they doubled down they got rid of them then what came in their lap Drew holiday they got better so like you can always make moves and improve but kg is absolutely right you can’t just go out there and grab a guy that doesn’t fit the mold of this team they they have a good team right now and they need to hold it down and look for a certain piece the goal is not to be good the goal is the goals to eventually win a championship it’s been over 50 years and this is now the the hardest part for any front office and we all know Stars win in this league that’s we all know that in the end you need stars as many as you can possibly get Phoenix shows you that it isn’t just throw them together it’s going to work right we know that if you blow up your roster to get a star you get Phoenix you have to still make the right move and the right piece which is exactly what Kevin Garnett is saying but I still believe though that if you’re trying to win a championship you’ve got to get the best possible Talent you can find so if you look at what you have and you’re happy with running it back that’s a good team you’re trying to be great greatness you got to find a star that fits and that’s the hardest part for this team that was my thing Austin you were like if they add a star they can compete with Boston and possibly win it you mean win the series against Boston or win the finals uh I think if you could beat Boston you can beat anybody absolutely I I think the Knicks again going back to what we said earlier if they were fully healthy if look everyone isn’t fully healthy or many teams aren’t fully healthy by the time we get to this point that’s part of the game again it’s part of the coach if they had all those guys that you just saw on their screen right there they would absolutely have had a chance to win the championship this year so himbo popped this that that the Knicks were plus 208 in the 44 games when they had Julius Randle and Jaylen Brunson available right which is huge but I really think people are negating that if this team is healthy the way that they had grown not just from the trade deadline the way that Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah hardenstein were able to defend yes and I get it Joel embiid is dealing with the knee but you saw them at times in series really continue to evolve so if that team had stayed healthy and continued to grow like the Knicks play harder than everybody like that’s simple but it’s profound and is a Difference Maker in terms of their culture all right the the playoffs continue tonight and we’ve got game
