Jayson Tatum talks Game 1 Win vs Pacers, Postgame Interview

Jason over here uh your game tonight the way you played with your teammates having to get it done what was the overtime like for you specifically um it really just felt like we had a second chance right we didn’t the end of the third and fourth quarter um we didn’t necessarily play well enough um where we like may have deserved the win and um obviously made some plays at the end JB gave us um a second chance byting that shot and uh we just talked about it in in the Huddle right we got a second chance like let’s take advantage of it um let’s not mess around and uh you know just figure out a way to win this game JT youve uh we missing shots you finally hit the big one at the very end but seemed like you were focused on just being really physical sewing things down and really like pushing at that advantage that’s what you’ve kind of done all year so how has that helped you get through some of the cold shooting nights you’ve had in the playoffs to get the in the end I think just mentally understanding that you know i’ I’ve had spurts throughout big games where I didn’t hit shots or shoot the ball well uh but it’s as simple as just you know believing that the next one is going in and uh I always feel like I’m just I’m one make away you know from from being hot or being in a great Rhythm so taking the race shots playing within the the the flow of the game right and and doing all the other NE necessary things to you know impact the game uh Jaylen not only hit the big shot he got that deflection to to give you guys the opportunity there just the the the night that Jaylen had to give you guys that that kind of chance to win um it’s simple Big Time Players make big time plays that was a hell of a shot he made um the the flection to give us an opportunity to to to make that shot um Drew Drew holiday played unbelievable tonight um on both ends of the floor DWI as well uh you know this is a the definition of a team win Jason the um you had that turnover that led to the three free throws by halber looked like after that Drew kind of said something to you while he was at the free throw line I wonder if you remember kind of what he said and how is it easier for you to shake off the the shooting slumps in game now than maybe was a couple of years ago yeah that was uh I’m I’m I’m so glad we won the game cuz I would have been sick that play of some miscommunication um you know and we just talked about it afterwards he thought that I was you know going to come off the screen I thought that they were corralling or you know doubling I thought he was going to slip um even still you know you don’t jump and and and pass the ball so that was on me uh but you know we just talked about it for a quick second and uh you know still a lot of time left to to try to figure out how to win the game you guys have had a lot of comfortable wins uh earlier in the playoffs this is really your first close close game um what went into it mentally to have the resilience to kind of persevere through chaos in that final stretch that’s a great way that was chaos um that was wild but uh just stay stay present stay in the moment um as long as their time is still on the clock and the game was in is Within Reach we feel like we have a chance uh you know we’ve this Core group has been in so many Big Time games Big Time moments um we’ve had the lead and lost it and still won or been down a lot and figured out a way to win um I’ve had a lot of crazy endings in this building so uh you know we in a weird way we’ve been there before and we we always believe in in a sense Jason how did you not let the turnover kind of affect the rest of your game you came back with the n one then you hit the three and can you take me through those two shots how you were able to kind of get open for the three and and then kind of muscle your way for the n one big time players make big time plays simple as that and and you could I mean you’re a big time player and you’ve been hearing a lot of criticism this postseason what do this this might just prove it for the till game two but what does this prove to those who who might comment about you know your what you haven’t done this postseason prove uh doesn’t prove anything we uh we won a big big time game um series is far from over we got to come back and play well enough to win again on on on Thursday um so I’m not you know I’m not trying to prove prove anything individually uh I know the ultimate goal is to try to win a championship uh but in one step at a time there is a big time win T night and come back and and get ready for Thursday last questions to Joe and then Tim hey Jason I’m just curious in a situation like that when you’re down three inside of 10 seconds are you expecting the Pacers to foul there uh I mean it’s kind of tough cuz we was taking the ball out on the Baseline it’s not usual circumstance right you normally when guys take it out on the sideline and they pass the ball above the break you can see guys trying to foul but uh you know you catch it deep in the corner like that it’s risky to try to foul um you know hindsight is 2020 I guess you guys have obviously had game one wins the first two rounds and they weren’t able to follow up with it in game two obviously this is a crazy game but how important is it to turn the page and make sure you guys are able to do what you were not able to do in the first couple rounds on Thursday yeah uh I think I uh come with the mindset uh you know don’t relax uh and different circumstances like we first two rounds we won our first game one by a wide margin um maybe Human Nature played a factor into that but tonight being a close game going into overtime uh you know they certainly feel like they probably should have won and we feel like we can play a lot better so uh I’m excited for us to to come out and respond um and you know just do a better job of protecting home court than we have done recently thank you
