what are we talking about today go over some quick Spurs news and notes just catch you up with some things it is the offseason everybody so maybe you’re not tuned into what’s going on with the Spurs right now and then we’re going to bring in our guest Raul Flores of the AP sports radio he and I are going to be discussing what are the Spurs going to do at the NBA draft now that we know where they’ll be picking and the four picks they got first and second rounders and then wrap it up with some spurs well lock on Spurs fan comments you guys are leaving at the YouTube page but some quick Spurs news and news before we bring our guest and I guess the biggest news that you all probably know about but in case you don’t Wy did not make any of the three all NBA teams not on the first team not on the third team uh he did pick up two second place votes and five third place votes but it just wasn’t enough uh ultimately he did not uh make any of the squads now not too surprising I guess you I didn’t expect him to make the first team didn’t you know kind of thought maybe an outside shot to make the second team I thought the best shot was the third team he did not make any of them at all now who is on those teams well you have LCA donic Giannis Shay goes Alexander Joker the yic and Jason Tatum tough to argue with that second team again tough argue Jaylen Brunson Anthony Davis Kevin Durant Anthony Edwards I don’t know how but Kawhi Leonard’s on the second team he made it and then the third team Booker Curry halberton LeBron James damont sabonis tough competition uh for wmy uh we’re gonna probably get into this a little bit more uh in tomorrow’s episode of lock on Spurs but does wmy have a case is there a part of him that may what you all think that maybe he was snubbed minimum for the 13 we’ll talk about that in the next episode of lockdown Spurs tomorrow but yeah did not make it it would have been great though if he made it I really believe that he had a shot at least making minimum third minimum third first was a long shot but third maybe but he had the numbers they ultimately came down to a record but again we’ll talk about that in tomorrow’s episode of lock spurs in other Spurs news a guard Devonte Graham will be a coach at the 2024 basketball Without Borders in Spain if be joining Colin SE ston of the Utah Jazz uh Hey the Spurs have benefited from players that have come out of basketball Without Borders uh Mamu has come out of it Charles bass’s come out of it so really good pipeline for some potential Talent down the road whether Spurs or the NBA but Devonte Graham yeah he’ll be putting on his coaching hat in Spain believe this month at the end of this month um so he’ll be a coach out there who knows maybe it might spark the coaching bug in him but that’s good to know that he’s contributing to the game over with basketball Without Borders and finally front office Sports has named the Frost Bank Center among the best venues of 2024 now keep in mind it’s venues not just about the Spurs games that’s part of it but of course the concerts the events conventions that go there uh they highlighted U you know the staff that works there the convenience you know cashless stuff uh you know just basically the overall Fan Experience uh pretty good pretty good considering many think that the Frost Bank Center overall is a little outdated but Spurs really really keep up with the latest latest amenities and they Implement that in the arena obviously I cover the games I have a media seat there and let me tell you the staff is always friendly very helpful they’ll guide people to their seats they’ll walk them to their seats and just friendly atmosphere and again congratulations to the Spurs and the you know SSN the Frost Bank Center yeah best venue among the best venues in 2024 that’s that’s high accolades I recently was there for a concert same thing you know just when they set up the concert configuration it’s again a good good of that it’s ease to get in for those you never been into the Frost Bank Center they have like a swipe you know like kind of like ticket list thing and easy I mean you’re in line like that quick you get in get in get to your seat fast so congratulations to the Frost Bank Center hopefully there’ll be a lot more excitement next year uh when the Spurs resume play all right there’s your quick Spurs news the history of the Spurs get him going he’ll tell you everything you need to know about how it all started to the Spurs until now uh Raul how you been man how’s the offseason treating you uh treating me good it just uh you know uh was excited to see where uh where the Spurs ended up with uh with with the draft lottery uh couldn’t have gone much better I mean I think worst case scenario would have been or best case scenario would have been 37 uh but you know 48 will work especially in a in a draft that draft year that is not rich super rich with talent and that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today we’re gonna be asking the question what are the Spurs going to do in the draft with four picks two first rounders two second rounders uh would throw named like bronnie James maybe I don’t know we’ll talk about that in a few minutes and then we’re going to get into some of your comments what are y’all talking about we’re at the lockdown Spurs YouTube page well let’s go and dive into it um so the first have four picks as mentioned two first rounders two second rounders 48 35 48 in second round um they’re in a good position as you mentioned you know it went well all things considered I’m gonna I’m gonna start you off with this I think the Spurs are going to keep their picks and draft accordingly unless there’s an offer on the table they can’t refuse for a team like for example Phoenix you know Phoenix has no picks to what eternity now at all so you know unless they offer 2030 yeah unless offer them something insane um so they can start maybe a rebuild over there I don’t know but something tells me Ro they’re going to keep 4 and eight and just draft yeah and that’s that’s the way I’m seeing it right now is is that that they’re going to stick with with the picks that they have um unless like you said there’s there’s a great offer and really the the only player in my opinion that that I’d like to see the Spurs go after and and use Maybe the eight and some because you let me take a step back you look at what the the the Spurs have between now and 2030 I think or or the next five years they’ve got yeah 12 first round and 15 second round picks uh and the big year I think is 2026 when they have like something like six second round picks um and that’s a lot of lot of picks uh that you know you’re not going to be able to use uh just because you won’t have the roster spots for them unless you start cutting players left and right uh but now back to using some of those picks uh for for Darius scarland um you know I know that there’s been some grumblings or some talks about Donovan Mitchell and and darus scarland I don’t see Donovan Mitchell coming to San Antonio if if Donovan Mitchell ends up anywhere it’s going to be I think with the Lakers uh and you know and and I don’t know what uh what the Lakers would you know I I if if like I say if he goes anywhere I I picture him in the Lakers uniform uh so the the more intriguing uh player is Darius Garland uh you get an established point guard uh you know he had an off year this year granted he had some injuries uh but he had an All-Star season the year before right uh and so you know if if you pack if you put together a nice package uh to bring in derus scarland you you you know you fix your your point guard position almost immediately um and and you’ve got a solid backup in in uh Trey Jones yeah so uh but outside of that I just don’t see the Spurs making making any type of move and just using those picks um you know are those picks going to come in and make an immed impact you know that’s another question you got to ask yeah you you look at what Scouts are talking about this draft they’re saying that it is lukewarm that it’s really not many Heavy Hitters in it if anything at all I mean you look at some of the projected top 10 picks these are guys that didn’t even play much in their college Years they’re coming off the bench right uh you know so it is lukewarm but look if the Spurs can find Diamonds in the Rough they certainly can they’ve done it before their history shows it uh and then you’re going back to the whole you know picks and you know the what they have this year and moving forward Uh something’s got to give because they can’t keep all these picks eventually they’re gonna have to deal something or use them but pick them from other teams and then do a trade you know and that that route because that’s just so much and eventually these kids are going to want to get paid you know down the road and Spurs have been a small Market team very they pinch pennies over there and they can’t they can’t pull what the like the Warriors did during their Dynasty run you know pay all these guys and go way unless unless ra you’re the historian here I’ve never seen the Spurs go extremely over the luxury cap I mean just like Warriors territory or Dallas Maverick’s territory So eventually they’re gonna have to trade these picks and but we say that the Spurs are are likely or you know keep four and eight and draft accordingly wasn’t it too long ago that we thought the Spurs would trade away their two or one of their two first round picks and they didn’t and that turned into Blake Wesley and Malachi brandham so their history shows that they just stay push put Raul why do you think they stay put why don’t think they’re big gamblers or big movers in the draft I I think that’s that’s just pops mentality uh and it has been for the last you know 25 years uh and he’s he’s going to stick to a formula that works uh you know he’s got his his reasons for doing it and uh you know you’re in a smaller market so you don’t want to go over the the luxury uh cap uh if you can avoid it at all uh so you know you you try to remain competitive with you know what what’s available to you um and you know guys like Malachi brandham and and Wesley you know they’re they’re not World shakers uh but they’re going to fill some some roles that you need uh on a roster uh and if you can improve on those uh a little bit uh with you know with some higher draft picks you know those guys become Expendable and and become trade bait uh or you know in some cases you’ve seen some guys that you really didn’t want to see going that you know just eventually get cut or or waved um and and that’s just always been the or for the last you know under under poic’s watch that’s just been Theo of how they operate and they take their chances with with the draft picks that they get yeah I I I look at this draft and this draft my gut he tells me like maybe your best player your star player will come out like late in the draft or even the second round you know I think it’s just all over the map and they right now it’s projected that SAR or I can’t pronounce his last name Risha I think that’s pronoun it two French guys Rish they’re going to go one or two in that order but after that it’s you know I mean just what you got you know I mean there the Spurs can address needs if they want to go that route but Brian Wright has made it very clear they’re going to go with best available so if that’s big so be it if that’s another forwards like all in the in the ilk of San and vasel they’re G to go with that route but if they go point guard you know you hear names like topic and uh like that um Raul would you if you’re the coach of the spur you’re papovich would you trust an 18y old European player to be your point guard for Wy in this rebuild I mean would you do that well I think you gotta you gotta try it out uh and and work him in kind of like they did with Tony Parker I mean it you know within a month and a half into the season boom you know uh pop saw what Tony Parker could do and and then Tony is you know your starting point guard um you know and I think they they feel them out that way uh you know now with with having the the G League uh you get an opportunity for those players to develop a little bit better uh or a little bit more get some playing time get some some you know uh on court action uh against other players rather than you know two three minutes spurts here or there uh coming off the bench uh so I think if you go with one of those those point guards um you know whether it’s topage or if Reed is available or or even Dillingham um you know you you work you work it within the system you’re bringing them in and out of of Austin uh as as they get some playing time there and I mean one of those three would you know if Spurs land any one of those three and they really surprise you you know what’s to say that it’s like you say you know outside of Zar and SAR and R yeah uh you know it’s it’s it’s a toss up you know and and even with those two guys you know there’s no certainty uh you know I’ve seen rashay drop as as far as seven or eight uh in some mock drafts so it’ll be in really interesting to see where uh where those players land and I think that’s going to determine uh what the Spurs do with with their pick you know yeah I’m right there with you because um you know let’s just say I’m okay with even if the Spurs were to move down in the draft and acquire more picks I’m okay with that I’m okay with them moving up I mean or or just trading out of the draft completely I think either way it works because the Spurs are just sitting on a mountain of picks that they got to burn or trade or what have you so you got to do something with this uh you you can only hold on to these assets for so long you you have to trade them You’ got to move them and the sport you know I was I was talking about 20 2026 so so Charlotte because they finished uh their their pick was 14 or better uh the the Spurs couldn’t take it so next year it’s the same situation it’s m Charlotte’s uh Charlotte’s pick first round pick but it’s got to be it’s got to be outside of the top 14 and if it does fall outside of the top 14 then the Spurs get uh two second two second round picks in 2026 uh you know since since they didn’t get in 2024 if they don’t get it in 2025 then they get two second round picks from Charlotte in 2026 and you’re looking at they Spurs have their own in 2026 it’s a swap with Atlanta and Spurs get the better pick of the two then they have their own and then they’ve got one two three four five and if you get two of Charlotte’s second round picks yeah one two three four but you’re proving the point though you’re you’re yeah you’re making the point though I mean they have too much they got too much way too many picks so you’ve got to start converting those picks and and you know multiple picks uh for you know for some good some good players uh again right now I think the only player that that would make sense in in a in a trade that that the Spurs might do uh is Darius Garland um yeah you know I don’t see I don’t I know you all were talking about it yesterday Trey young is not coming to San Antonio dejonte Murray is not coming to San Antonio yeah Chris Paul that that’s a you know that’s a two-year rant at Max yeah you know guy what 38 39 um you know and and that’s that’s putting a Band-Aid on on your situation and according and according to a report he’s the biggest a-hole so you know do you do you want that kind of element I mean Maybe not maybe Pop might love that attitude exactly yeah and Chris Paul have a good I know pop and Chris Paul have a good relationship so yeah you mentioned Darius Garland like he’s the guy that has been on my radar like this person should make a move for it but a lot there’s a lot of Spurs fans think that Donovan Mitchell should be the guy as well because you know you know these guys you know whether the be Mitchell or or even Garland they check the boxes don’t they ra veteran point guard distributor create space can make open shots and from the three line as well and be parall well with wimy so I mean the and the thing about it too if if I were if you were to wake up tomorrow morning and you see the Spurs m for Garland yeah you probably be ecstatic or they made a deal for Mitchell okay fine I ain’t gonna be mad at that no I’m not going to be mad you ra it just I just think it just comes down to the asking price because if if Cleveland wants you know to give the Spurs sticker shock I’m gonna be like no way no no no no like you want how many picks and how many players off the roster no no no well look look what Atlanta did for look what Atlanta did for dejonte yeah um you know I don’t see the scor ever doing something like that in a deal no I I mean I can see them giving giv a a good chunk of those second round picks and I don’t have and I don’t have a problem with that yeah you find some gems in the second round but but how often um you know those are few and far between Manu and oi obviously being probably the best second round pick uh and that’s and that’s why I think how this draft is going to shake out I think it’s going to be where oh my God how did you sleep on this guy and you got him late the second round or you got him late in the first round he was sitting there all the time and I think that’s what’s going to happen hey we’re not done talking about the Spurs at shock well I should say shockingly not surprisingly because of his last name bronny James a lot of um it’s been a lot of talk about him and which is odd because he’s not a top pick he’s not a top five he’s not a top 10 he’s not a top 15 20 but here we are because of that last name uh there are certain odds makers that are putting out their odds already and they do have the Spurs among the top 10 teams that could select them because they got those two second round picks and the whole needs to be in a environment that can help him develop well San Antonio’s right there um geez what are your thoughts on Ronnie James you know the from the combine you know there have been some positive but it’s been more negative man he’s an enigma it’s it’s gonna be tough uh you know yeah his name is I I think he’s in the news so much because of his name no uh and he’s got a lot of eyes on him uh you know he yeah he did well at at the combine or decent at the combine uh but you know who was at the combine and who are you competing against uh you know you look at him with with his health scare that he had uh at USC uh and then he goes and and averages what four points a game you know if you’re asking me would the Spurs look at him they might consider it but I don’t see I don’t see the spur taking a taking a shot on on on Brony yeah know you know you know if this was maybe Peak Spurs Dynasty Spurs maybe I could see that but they’re in the middle of the rebuild right now the last thing they need is to have a a circus player a circus you know because you know LeBron and look it’ be great for them to raise revenue that’s for sure ticket sales TV U you know their games being broadcasted left and right the attention that’ll get but do they really need that element right now in a rebuild and I don’t think that’s that’s good for the Spurs there you have it there are our thoughts on the Spurs what they could do what they can do R ultimately uh how you feeling about heading to the draft before we get into some Spurs fan comments I I I think Spurs STI stick to their guns and and keep their picks and uh you know I have it playing out uh let’s see what was my latest uh I forgot where I put that um I I I think you know the the draft is going to stick with um with uh SAR at number one uh and I think Washington goes with either because they’ve got a lot of needs right now and I think they go with either with either Shephard and or I think Donovan CL uh kingan uh moves moves up the draft if kingan d p pulls into the the top three uh then I see you know I see Houston going with with Shephard which drops rashay to to four for the Spurs yeah and then you can hope and then you can hope that Dillingham Falls to eight just based on team needs uh you know you’re GNA see Ste I think Stefan Castle is making you know making some waves and he’s going to move up into the top 10 yeah um you know I think some teams had him like 11 101 but I think he goes in the middle middle picks um Dalton connect I think yes uh Charlotte takes a chance on him um and if topic is still around I think Portland takes a chance on him Portland takes him because they got scoot Henderson there yeah so do that yeah and and then you know uh I know you were talk y’all were talking about uh Tan Salon uh yesterday um and uh or earlier today I was watching yeah yeah your show with Rudy um and uh you know that’s uh that’s a that’s a chance pick man um yeah that that’s a sleeper pick that’s you know what that would be that would be the Josh Primo pick all over again like who what yeah exactly but I think he’s he’s probably one of the most uh athletic players coming out if you look at the the the top 15 players that are being tossed around and like I said earlier that so many of them are so interchangeable that it becomes more of a need uh I think this the Spurs definitely have a need at the point but if if they can’t meet that need then yeah they’re going with with the best available player that’s on the board yeah and and you know I’ve seen like I said I’ve seen R A going as high as number one on some M drafts and as low as number eight uh on some all over the place it’s all over the place yeah yeah it’s all over the place yeah um I I was high on topic until or topic until the knee injury happened again that worries me a lot about that the last Spurs lead is to burn a four or eight pick and then well for fortunately it wasn’t you know it wasn’t a serious injury uh and I think I think what happened when it happened uh my thought was they brought him back too soon uh because he had suffered that injury in January he was out for four months probably should have just stayed out the rest of the season Y uh and then prepare for for the combines uh or for the you know showcases coming up NBA workouts uh and showcase what he can do there I think there’s enough film on him that already uh without him have I mean he didn’t play a whole lot between January and now anyway uh that you know the the existing film on him already shows what he capable of and you have to remember the dude’s 18 years old 66 and he’s thick yeah he’s got you know he’s got a solid body he’s not you know gangly like like a lot of and playing playing with Pros right playing with Pro players so uh you know coming into the draft all right but well it’s time to let the Spurs fans or say lockdown Spurs fans have their say now you guys were leaving a lot of comments a lot of them and Raul and I we we wish had all the time of the world reach every single one so we’re going to pick two though and see what you you guys are talking about over the lockdown SPS YouTube page uh kind of this first comment Ro kind of flows what we’re talking about right now the draft this one comes from Jeffrey Chavez he says no now he’s referring to the Spurs making a deal for div Donovan Mitchell it was no here’s where I think you’ll like this part we’ll just build through the draft thank you what do you think about that Ro you think Spurs are just simply going to build the rebuild via the draft or do you think they’ll make a Big Splash in trades that that’s that’s a great question um my gut tells me that they’re going to stay put uh just based on history based on what uh you know papovich and and Brian Wright uh and and before that uh um prior to that they’ve always just stuck to their guns they haven’t been who’s the last big free agent that came to San Antonio LaMarcus Aldridge um you know uh you’re not gonna bring in a a big splash name unless you make a trade uh Donovan Mitchell you know I I like I like him uh I don’t know that how he would fit with the Spurs um right Darius Garland I think is is a better fit for the Spurs he’s for the next 10 to 12 years as long as you keep him everything is going to run through wmy everything and so absolutely you’ve got to have players you’ve got to have players that buy into that that support that and that will be the the complimenting pieces that make it all work all right it’s a good question thank you for that um the next comment comes from Michael kou this is gonna be a fun one Ro you don’t love this one wembe would have did a better job than Gober did against is the Joker what do you think about that the Defensive Player of the Year got he got handled by the Joker in that series now go you know I was I was watching those games with with my son and and we that’s all we just kept commenting every time that jokic would put a move on goar I was like yeah there’s your uh defensive player of the year yeah there’s your defensive player and it would have been nice to see uh you know Wy win it um you know I think they figured well he’s getting Rookie of the Year let’s not give him two Awards uh we’ve never given it to we’ve never given it to a rookie and a lot of the media that votes on that is is east coast media um and you know you saw it with Tim you saw it with David they got they got shunned quite a bit over their careers uh just because uh you know the voters didn’t see them enough uh they didn’t see what wmi was doing uh you know that stuff that didn’t show up on on um on the stat sheet how many times did you see players just adjust their shot or not even take a shot and pass the ball away because they saw Wendi in the paint and said uh oh I’m not doing this uh and so you know there’s a lot of intangibles that didn’t show up that the voters didn’t see so yeah WBY probably deserved defensive player of the year I’m okay with Rudy winning it again but yeah jokic just had his lunch with him and then they put towns on jokic and he made it tough on on um on jokic uh you know but anytime that you’ve got two seven Footers um you know I I think that’s especially two athletic seven-footers like Minnesota does uh they’re they’re gonna make it tough on anybody and I think a lot of teams are going to start start doing that you that that’s why I see Houston taking taking a chance with uh with cling and pairing him with sangon and and You’ got two big guys in the paint that can move and and you know what Ro I have Houston as a team just lurking in those Shadows right now yeah I mean they’ve got a lot of good pieces in place they bring it all together yeah and and if they had a guy like kingan next to sangon watch out I that could be a nice onew punch for them uh you know but but to be fair uh Joker wrecked a lot of people he wrecked a lot of people yeah how many point how many points did he put on wimy was like 30 plus I think yeah 30 30 or more on on wimy but uh yeah so no yeah I I think you know goar he has the height and he is the DPI but he’s not as fluid is that Mak sense fluid as oh yeah yeah yeah W is an athlete we’ve never seen before his his abil to move the way he does for a guy that size and yeah it kind of looks awkward but it looks awkward because we’ve never seen somebody with you know that long of legs and that long of arms you know move fluidly you know throughout the court uh you know it it can look awkward at times but he gets to where he needs to get to uh and and he’s working on his footwork you know just the position we talked about this one of the previous uh lock on Spurs uh you know just the positioning of it his feet where they’re pointed when he gets the ball where they’re pointed when he releases or when he makes a move it is just little simple things that that and each game and he’s he’s he’s got it up here and that’s what makes he wmy so special you know what Raul I would pick you number one overall on draft I’m playing in I’m playing in an 18 and0 league and you know look at you I’m old enough to be their Grandpa’s man I’m pushing I’m pushing 60 this year so um you know and and then they you know if if I have to play singles I’m out there against a a 20-some year old and you know sometimes I I I can I can beat him with the old man game but you know they’re just you know those 20-some year olds are I
