Central live welcome inside our NBA TV studios Boston Celtics win the game they take the two- lead over the Indiana Pacers headline though and this gu is the injury to Tyrese halberton yes Boston’s up 2 they’re the home team they’re the higher seed they should be up 2 you do not want your star player to go down especially with a hamstring injury before we start breaking everything down I just want to get your initial thoughts Grant let’s start with you your thoughts on this game and and how it got away from them well it got away from them there in the second quarter and uh you know Jamal talked about it in the pregame show just you know Boston is awake now they’re alert they’re aware of this team they know how they play they know they’re very dangerous uh and they they also knew that they almost lost that game so they came out I thought very focused a sense of urgency uh and really took it to them good teams I think close out the half and start halfes well that second third quarter was the difference so Jamal I know that you found some video for us that you’d like to show to help illustrate the things that you were looking at absolutely and it starts with Jaylen Brown tonight he had 40 points but it was the way he was getting it done the way he was involved as well right here watch how he go slow and then he speeds up right there and that speed up that first step draws the defense and collapses right here he finds his open shoot in the corner he doesn’t like it he doesn’t like it and white does shooting 43% you go from good to great that builds Trust on offense and Trust as well on the defensive end right here watch his first upep again gets Baseline collapses the defense could have took a tough two right there found his shooter once again white knocks it down Jaylen Brown’s playing with a different burst right now a different speed and oh by the way I can play off the people as well now Tatum it’s your turn to go to work you get the pick and roll you reject it my man comes and helps no problem we’re a tandem we’re a team I can get the easy ones as well as he knocks down his Corner three and you love to see your best players working together right like they have to be on the same page and right here again First Step gets to his strong hand the right goes and finishes with a layup Jaylen Brown is playing at an ultra aggressive level and I think as you alluded to in the first part of the show when you have those two playing at such a level where they can take over games for stretches they’re doing a better job balancing each other of when they’re taking over and when to do other things and right tonight was Jaylen Brown’s night so we know about the dynamic duo right Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown we know any given night either of them could go for 40 or 50 no surprise I think the thing that helps the Boston Celtics is they have other tools in their bag you look at Drew holl holiday Grant and what he brings to the table he can be your defensive stopper he can score if he needs to but he can also facilitate and he did both of those things with the double double tonight yeah I mean Drew holiday is up there in age a former Allstar uh he’s a winner he’s a champion and he makes winning plays and just a a fantastic addition to this group has been all season um but like just whatever is needed from this team you know he can spot up shoot he’s unselfish plays great defense just fits in with what they’re about and uh and this is the time of the year where you know it’s about winning it’s about you know doing what’s necessary on both ends of the floor uh so yeah I mean Drew holiday did Drew holiday things and I think we’ll continue to do those types of things throughout this series uh just kind of beat you in a number of ways um but a lot of it’s defense now it’s shooting decision making um you saw the Swing Swing there giving up on you know on on the on the on the replay there Jamal showed like giving up a shot for an easy open shot to Derek white just little things that help a ball Club win that experience uh that understanding of what it takes to win championships he’s done that he brings that and um for him it was just getting through an 82 Game season but now he’s uh he’s he’s he’s in the postseason and uh adding value to this this ball Club in Spades 15 points 10 assists he was 6 for seven from the field including three for four from behind the AR in only one turnover you can’t get much better than that and he’s a connector like he connects your team they respect him they know he’s a champion if he’s a guy that sacrificed and that’s why you guys got him on the USA team he’s going to bring all those same things right like he he can fit in certain guys could only play with certain units he can play with everybody and he’ll take the challenge of saying you know what I’ll shut down the best player at least make things difficult for him as well right that’s a good point when you look at these stats the Celtics we know they can score mhm but you look at what they did tonight 53% shooting from the field 41% from behind the York and then 85% from the free throw line any team would take that any given night well I mean the three-point shooting we know they’re an elite three-point shooting team um but the points in the paint I mean plus 20 points in the paint in this game so uh attacking getting downhill we saw Jaylen Brown doing that uh and then when the defense collapses finding guys when they’re in sync offensively Boston I mean they’re as good as any I mean they that’s why they were the best team at least the best record in the NBA but they just they play the right way they make the right read they don’t care who gets the glory and and they have so many different weapons even their back court you talked about holay 15 points I mean Dereck White had 23 cor yes the back the starting back court of Boston out played the starting you know back court of Indiana and and that’s on top of the 40 points from Jaylen Brown and then a pedestrian 23 if you will from Jason Tatum so when they’re clicking and they’re sharing the ball and they’re hitting shots there’s you know they’re going to defend they’re going to do all those things on that end but the the shooting when they shoot the ball well they they can beat anyone it’s hard I mean you look at you said he had 23 points and Dereck white but he also had six assists and zero turnovers so you talk about your backourt playing that well not just scoring an assist but one turnover between the two of them in a playoff game I’d take that you take it all the time and they play well off each other they almost keep each other sharp as well because they they’re like okay you got it that time I got this time but they’re playing with the flow and I think they learned a lesson even in the win which you want to do sometimes you learn lessons in losses but they learned in the win I think they had they had uh Indiana’s full attention that they they really did and and you know the addition of these two I mean Drew holiday came in really like right before like the season started he was traded Derek white his Improvement you have two like just really solid decision makers and guys who understand who they are they’re not you know but they’re more than capable and you know a couple years ago when when the Celtics were were there in the finals and they lost to Golden State I thought putting the ball in Tatum’s hand and making him like the decision maker you know they didn’t that wasn’t that wasn’t his strong point then uh and I think you know golden state was able to to take advantage of that obviously he’s older he’s better now he’s stronger he has greater sense of how to you know play that role but you add Derek white you add Drew like Drew like these two guys are just solid you know they don’t make mistakes they understand who they are they make winning plays they defend they’re low maintenance uh and so it’s it’s a it’s it’s great to see them add it to the the big two if you will of Jaylen and Jason okay so let’s take a look at what happened with Indiana and Tyrese Halbert and if you just joined us tyres hurn went out of the game with a left leg injury we’re going to show you the replay here watch his left leg it’s being reported that it was his left hamstring you can sing there as he attempts to make that step and the unfortunate situation for Halton and the Pacers is that he injured his left hamstring earlier in the season and as you guys know sometimes a reoccurring injury is a bad sign because and you don’t want to speculate I’m not a doctor but it would be different if it were a an injury to something that hadn’t been hurt before because then you never know how
