[Music] take my co co happy Friday everybody welcome into another episode of the phnx Suns podcast shout out to our friends over at OG’s the official sponsor of flavoring Fridays OG’s is not your the OG’s natural and the big ogs and find out where you can purchase I’m Lindsay that’s espo that’s Gerald that’s Flex how you guys doing on this Friday afternoon I’m good good thanks for asking doing great no complaints okay I mean that’s a solid way to round out a week I suppose we’re trapped in tiny boxes at our house I don’t I don’t know I don’t got a lot of energy with that right I can’t feed off you guys I mean Saul’s not here so that means flex and Saul won’t fight which means the energy might be a little bit low on today’s show so I’m going to need you to really pick it up here espo oh I’m gonna fight Flex okay let’s fight espo I’m actually two miles from him so if I if I go away uh and just show up in his box just be ready for an actual fight like I could be there in five minutes so that would be fun see how quick you can get here that’d be cool Gerald and I will just sit here and watch maybe provide a little comment maybe not we’ll see I don’t know we’ll find out um but not yet anyway don’t start fighting just yet save that for a little bit later in the show first and foremost we gotta talk about bronny James because we got a Shams report today that quote the Phoenix Suns will conduct a workout with bronny James ahead of the June NBA draft sources say Phoenix has the 22nd pick and he is among several players in consideration bronnie has over 10 workout invites but is expected to only visit a few teams including the Lakers and the sun it’s happening happening what’s my favorite saying if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck don’t call dog or a dinosaur yeah don’t call it a dinosaur I mean this is interesting the wording of that was very interesting um you know he’s going to work out for other teams but he’s only going to meet and have private interviews with a few including the Suns and the Lakers um this is it’s starting the drama starting buckle up Planet Orange it’s gonna be a funny uh summer we got here um and I’m all for it I’m all for it uh we talked we talked about this before what y’all thinking how y’all feeling about this look I’m just gonna say it no no can we please not do this drama right I I can’t take any more heat or hate in the valley I can’t take any more stands for guys that uh that have been on multiple teams I can’t handle it all right I don’t I don’t I can’t handle another summer like this will I love it when Braun’s here sure will it help on the court yes but I can’t take the drama this summer wake me up when it’s done or when it’s not done but I do not want the drama I do not want the hate I do not want the smoke I don’t want to deal with that you’re such a liar I don’t believe you at all big fact you love the drama you love the smoke you love the hate as though you’re lying through your teeth right now bring me Lebron damn it let’s do this thing to do the rever thing my dog could sense your anxiety and your lies through the earbuds and attacked me while you were ranting and raving I don’t believe you for a sec look you can hear him I think I think I think it makes sense like if you just look at this logistically LA and Phoenix are two of the teams that would make the most sense for him to stay if he went anywhere um like Phoenix is an hour flight away from La he would get to play on a team that already has a big three in place that would give him an opportunity to contend he would get to play with his son on a winning team you know it’s not like if the Wizards or or someone like that drafted him he would suddenly be all about Washington DC like he still wants to go somewhere where he could compete for championships but the opportunity to play with your son is a once in lifetime thing and I know he’d be turning down like 50 million plus another 50 plus million uh in terms of a player option for the second year or whatever but like you only get this opportunity to play with your son once if at all and I do think like the guy’s a billionaire people are saying he’s not going to turn down Millions he’s always had his max contract everywhere he’s gone and I get that like there’s a chance maybe he just ends up in La if you ask me where I think he would end up I think I would still probably have the Lakers number one just by default but I don’t think Phoenix is that crazy if you look around the league tell me a better situation that is in a position to draft bronny that could also give him developmental tools give him the opportunity to learn from Devin Booker Kevin Durant Bradley Beal and LeBron James every day give him an opportunity to spend some time in their new g-league team there’s not a lot of situations that are checking all of these different boxes for LeBron so as much as people are going to say it’s crazy and I’m sure there are a lot of Lakers fans that are going to give a [ __ ] for this like it does make sense if you think about it for more than two seconds also makes complete sense you can add on the whole idea of playing alongside your son but also the potential as you you already have a big three here you add LeBron James into that you’re already in contention with Katie and book and Beal you add LeBron James onto that now you’re talking about LeBron James bringing the first championship to another franchise like that’s a legacy addition and you know he cares a lot about things like that and I get giving up 50 million is a lot of money but when you’re a billionaire does it really even like 10 bucks yeah you nailed it it really is like 10 bucks uh when you’re a billionaire like LeBron James here’s the thing everything Gerald said everything Lindsay said I’m not going with you Esco we fighting today but but everything they said is a it’s 100% legit like this team is already built I’m going to go out on the Lim I’m going to say listen we we’ve been having background conversations about stuff like this for quite some time um I will say this conversations I’m having behind the scenes this this isn’t something new first of all this is something that has been contemplated for for a little bit of time now I I do believe if if I were baton man LeBron is either going to retire Laker or he’s GNA going to play for the Phoenix Suns um there is no other scenario that I think makes sense and there’s no other scenario that I even think they’re really contemplating um for all the points Gerald made I mean you you give your son an opportunity to go to like Yale of NBA like you going you’re going to practice every day with Devon Booker Bradley Bal Kevin Durant oh by the way probably the greatest player all time my dad I get to learn from him too um you give him a good developmental uh uh program with the G League uh it’s a 4 5 minute private jet flight to La Chris Paul proved that that’s very doable Chris Paul played in Phoenix and had his family in La no problems um you’re contending from Jump Street LeBron’s about to be 40 okay at this point what they’re contemplating is pretty simple do I go back to the Lakers who pretty much they are what they are right do I go back to the Lakers take the money and finish out my career or do I give myself one last crack at catching Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan one more ring puts him in a different conversation uh and by the way you can’t lose fat don’t don’t for one minute lose focus on the fact that these guys are about to go to Paris together this year and so that’s another element you get a real Head Start If you were to go to Phoenix or pick Phoenix you get a head start on chemistry continuity and basketball stuff with two teammates that you’re gonna spend probably the next year or two trying to win a championship with so there’s a lot to like about Phoenix and this is more than smoke guys this is a lot more than smoke I promise y’all well okay serious take 50 million to LeBron can be made up in one good business deal right it’s not it’s not as if it’s lifechanging this isn’t some guy who hasn’t banked so much in his career he’s got a lifetime deal with Nike money doesn’t matter at this point right it is Legacy like you said it is an opportunity to do something that very few athletes have done I mean getting to play with your son and you guys bring up the great Point too that it can be done in a situation where you can win this isn’t Charlotte taking a swing on on drafting bronny James and and him having to play in Charlotte or anything like that but that’s not why you do this that’s not why I believe it’ll happen there’s a petty reason that I think that this could happen and I’m all here for the pettiness I lied about the drama bring me all the drama all right give me this give me the smoke okay because who is LeBron James agent Rich Paul one Richard Paul right who hated the former disgraced owner of the Phoenix Sons more than anybody PA Rich Paul because do we remember what happened when it came to Earl Earl Watson and my guy Eric blo and all the drama that basically Robert starver said fire that guy or you’re out of here to both of those guys yeah there’s not a bigger MF uh to guy than doing that I’m bringing LeBron James to the franchise you used to own and we are going to win a title and it is going to be the biggest middle finger possible to the former disgraced owner of this team and I am here for that me too sign me up no lies detected insane I love that on the list of reasons why Lebron might come to Phoenix espo picks like number 17 on the list and it’s like yeah that one that’s my one that’s the fun one like you know what if I got to embrace it right if I got if I gotta go you know what we’re gonna be the most hated team in the NBA I want to have it for a good reason for me I am selfish Gerald and that is a fantastic reason for me all right fair enough um also while we’re on the topic of Rich Paul he did say that he has zero interest in his client bronnie James signing a two-way contract and that quote teams know that I’m not doing that and that came from Chris B Haynes uh so they are looking for a full contract from uh whoever drafts bronnie not looking for any sort of like we’ll develop him on a tway and this and that the other can I add to that Lind so so you know everybody saying LeBron’s gonna lose x amount of money $50 million you draft bronnie 22 that LeBron James household just got about $20 million right there um because I’m I’m I’m just saying listen I’m I’m seeing some people that are like no this is I’m telling y’all this is more than this this is more than smoke and there a lot of people that say no way Kevin Durant Phoenix Sons no way that’s not happening can’t happen no way you’re gonna get Brad be for Chris Paul can’t happen I’m telling y’all y’all are y’all are dealing with a different monster his name is Matt ish and uh again we talked we had a show last week week about you know everything that Matt has done Matt’s an impressive guy well-respected owner and this is the type of stuff that makes you a destination franchise um you you’re gonna have to listen when Matt ISB comes knocking and the Phoenix Suns come knocking as crazy as may sound to everybody else uh people are going to listen because this franchise has positioned themselves to be in that spot so you call a delusion all you want but as as things play out don’t don’t be surprised here’s the thing too like might think it’s delusional but it’s not outside of the realm of possibility and even guys like Bobby marks of ESPN are saying you have to at least explore it because it would be straight up negligent if you didn’t here’s what he told us earlier this week I think it would be a disservice for teams not to make the call and ask the question I really do and I like I think there’s I think there’s a multi-step process here I think first of all get your Scouts in a room usually you don’t start doing your board and till like the weekend of before the Draft starts so we would bring our guys in like Saturday Sunday Scouts would be doing your top whatever 60 top 75 and you that’s how that you start doing it I do think there’s probably a conversation you have with your Scouts now and say hey give me a preliminary big board right let give me your top 60 top 75 and let’s see where listen if you get it and bronn’s not on there it’s a little bit of a stretch there but I do think there’s a conversation with with the agent um Rich Paul saying hey we we have interest in him at 20 I’m just hypothetical we have interest in him at 22 where do you see what’s what’s the what’s LeBron going to do right like you know our situation here like we have this is what we got we got three million bucks right um we have a really appealing developmental program um this is not about the dad this is about you know investing longterm in him all that stuff but I do think it’s worth having the conversation can can we talk about the basketball side of it like we talk about all the other sides of it but the basketball side when you look at it LeBron actually solves a lot of those issues that you had last year leadership okay well you know he’s not going to be afraid to say anything to anybody because he has the hardware to prove it more than anybody on that roster and then you were looking for a guy that could be a point guard and while his bodybuild and all those things aren’t your traditional point guard he had has basically run the offense for his time in the NBA so he checks two boxes that you were sorely missing this past season so from a basketball perspective I think it makes a hell of a lot of sense to put him on this roster and if he’s willing to take a minimum yeah you do it I don’t care if it costs you drafting bronny James at 22 [ __ ] if I was at 10 and I got LeBron James in this situation I’m getting LeBron James from a basketball perspective this team needs a guy that can do those things and he checks the box I don’t care if he’s 40 go look what he did last year in LA and tell me that that does not fit what you need here can I picky back on that listen first of all we were arguing all year about what the Suns needed um and the consensus was you need a point guard you need leadership you need more athleticism uh you need more youth right are those Fair we talked about all those things okay I’m gonna give you a scenario you bring LeBron James in you get the leadership qualities you get the point guard um and I’m gonna I’m gonna dive into this a little bit deeper you bring in bronny James now I’mma tell you I I’ve been evaluating this kid and I’ll tell you it’s not farfetched to think that this kid could become a Gary Payton the second type player a defensive guy that’s going to put pressure on defense bring some athleticism could shoot the ball a little bit okay so you get some Youth and you get somebody off the bench that can play a little bit of guard and and handle that I’ll throw another name at you Russell Westbrook okay he’s a free agent we’re bringing in Matt tellum uh Russell Westbrook’s agent is arum right so um if you told me right now you’re talking about a summer where you could potentially get LeBron James Russell Westbrook and bronny James um that checks a lot of [ __ ] boxes for me I’m I’m gonna be honest um is it the perfect situation no but uh I I’d be lying to you if I didn’t think that that could help this team tremendously I mean they will have to wheel everybody out for starting lineups outside of Devon Booker but you know what the hell why not let’s go I mean for everybody that wants the Suns to have a point guard if he would be mad about getting LeBron James on a vet minimum you don’t understand what the definition of point guard is in the modern NBA now because that is a guy that can facilitate that can run your offense in a way that um you know a lot of people are doubting that book or being or KD can right now so he would check that box he would give you a bigger body so that you could play play Kevin Durant at the three instead of at the four where he’s having to play more physical minutes and where a lot of people who have been following him throughout his career have pointed out like if you look at his best years in Golden State he was optimized as a three rather than a four even though he did spend some time at small ball five like you would be able to have that flexibility with LeBron here and for bronny like look I I’m not going to lie I don’t think he’s a first round Prospect I think a lot of draft evaluators don’t have him in the first round so you would be reaching there for kind of obvious reasons but that doesn’t mean that you can’t devote resources to him getting better um you know he had told Bobby marks that Davon Mitchell was kind of the guy that he watched film on and compared himself to and that’s a guy that the Suns could use down the line he’s not going to be cracking the rotation in year one or even year two maybe but a point of attack Defender like Brony is legit on the defensive end um you know he’s really bulked up he shot the ball well at the combine like he has more to offer than just you know I’m LeBron’s son uh from a basketball standpoint it would just take more than you know a year he wouldn’t be the NBA ready guy that I think a lot of people want with that number 22 pick but again if it comes with LeBron James like that’s that’s a gamble that is worth taking in my estimation and who knows two or three years from now with some time in the G League he could be legit and just because you know Rich Paul said he’s not going to be on a two contract if you draft him with the number 22 pick he’s not on a two-way contract but he can spend time developing and honing his game in the G League at the same time also what did Matt isbs say about using draft piics to get good players you might say that bronny shouldn’t go 22 but if they’re using a 22 to get a good player in LeBron James well thank you Lyn the math is mathing yeah I don’t know I’m on board but if you think we’re crazy Maybe that’s because it’s flavoring Fridays presented by our friends over at OG’s the best scratch made THC gummies you can lots of ments about Brad in the chat asking can we trade him would you do this would you do that um I think I’m gonna go out on a limb here and just say the short story here is no we’re just gonna hang on to Brad we’re just gonna hang on to Brad for the time being okay it’s the most realistic option but was the deal for Bradley Beal good was it bad is it too early to tell let’s kind of dive into things Gerald you wrote an article over at go phx.com which has a ton of additional information so guys make sure you check that out uh once the show is over but the biggest question about Bradley Beal and his contract and the move the Sun’s made to bring him to this team is could they have done something else with the money instead of bringing in Bradley Beal that would have benefited the team and Gerald you went through and you looked at all the guys so break it down for us yeah so let me take you back to last summer when the Suns have Chris Paul on the books for 30.8 million with only 15.8 million guarantee okay so they could have waved him and they could have freed up some cap space but not a ton they still would have been an overthe cap team so they wouldn’t have had room to sign free agents they would have only had the $5 million mid-level exception to sign free agents so anybody saying like oh they could have you know cut Chris Paul got rid of him because he was aging and because he couldn’t stay healthy and they needed to move on but then they could have turned that into another starting point guard or they could have turned that into depth that’s incorrect they could have stretched and waved his contract in which case you’re taking the $15.8 million in guaranteed money and spreading it out over five years so about three million against the cap per year for Chris Paul who’s no longer on your team if you did that you would have gotten just below the line so that you could have freed up the full mid-level exception which was about $12.4 million but if you look at the players that were signed for that amount last summer it really is not that encouraging in terms terms of what the Suns could have done you’re looking at Javon Carter you’re looking at George neang you’re looking at Dante exom Seth Curry Gabe Vincent who I’ll admit I thought he was a guy the Suns should have looked at last summer but he only played 11 games this season due to injury so guess what you’re running into an even worse problem than you encountered with Beal you’re looking at guys like Dante G venzo who even though he had a great season for the Knicks was worse in scoring was worse in assists was worse in field goal percentage was worse than three-point percentage than Bradley Beal so you’re still dealing with that overlap at the two guard spot except guess what it’s with a guy that’s worse than bradle Beal was this season the only guy that I will entertain is Dennis schroer but I’m sorry if you’re G to look me in the face and tell me that having Dennis schroer just because he’s a point guard was better than having Bradley Beal I’m gonna call you crazy for it like there is this narrative that the sun’s traded depth for Bradley Beal that by going in on a third star they sacrificed depth they didn’t have any Avenues to get depth so what did they do they went out and got the best possible player that they could have added and that’s the biggest thing for me is if you want to criticize the Bradley Beal trade and the contract and all that stuff I get it but you need to tell me what they should have done instead that would have been better M Miguel Dominguez I love you man I don’t know you but I’m I’m G respect you in the best way I can stop with the Derek Jones Jr [ __ ] please man like come on man Derek Jones Jr was a flyer minimum contract guy that end up exceeding expectations that’s what it is Derek Jones Jr is not better than Brad be guys can we can we chill out for a second 18 five and five on 51% shoo that’s what Brad Beal brings to the table 185 and five on 51% shooting what you think is his worst potential too right and he’s 30 years old like this is becoming insane how much people are pounding on Brad Bal um there are guys that we would pay a lot I mean it’s hard to find 185 and five on 51% go find them for me in the league and tell me what they make and again Gerald so eloquently broke this down understand please listen to Gerald he knows what he’s talking about he writes these articles man he F he’s [ __ ] smart like he just laid it down for you if you did what you did the best you would have gotten is a12 million midlevel exception that would come no near the amount of talent of Bradley be so yeah it’s I’m I’m I’m starting to lose my mind with this guys I I agree on that and I think we all agree that the thought process and what they were trying to do with jettison Chris Paul’s contract understanding the second apron was 100% the right move there was no other way to play that and keeping Chris Paul and then losing all that cap space would have been one of the dumbest moves a front office could have made made right uh it it would have made no sense and only getting the mid-level exception or or the you know the 5 million exception the the by anual there wouldn’t have wouldn’t have changed the fortunes they would have probably been a worse team last year almost guaranteed now my question is was there anybody else other than Brad Beal that maybe you could have swung a deal for and if your argument is maybe that that’s where it is fine I can I can give you a little bit more Grace but anybody that’s just crapping on the Bradley Beal deal because well look 50 million and they could have had 50 million complete misunder understanding of the situation the fact that this is like the sixth time we’ve had to explain this on this program is insane to me because people don’t get it but that’s the reality of it and I I understand 50 million for the next few years is a lot of money yeah but you weren’t going to get to spend that anywhere else anyways so I take it on the roster and I full well believe that that is the worst uh last year was obviously one of the worst years we’ve seen from Brad be in a while but injuries trying to acclimate yourself to a new situation being the third guy rather than the first guy in Washington all that takes time to adjust to we’re gonna see a better Bradley Beal next year clip it now and you can run it back to me later this ain’t gonna be a freezing cold take that’s what’s going to happen Bradley Beal will be a better player next year in terms of points per game and everybody will shut the hell up about it okay two things um the first thing is that I I think everybody has come to terms for the most part around like the on paper it made the most sense I think we’re kind of putting the numbers together there now when it comes to Bradley Beal I think the follow-up question then is would it have been better in and I want all of your guys’ opinions on this if they decid to basically quote unquote give up last season and not bring Bal in for future flexibility for this outcoming season or The Following season do you see a scenario where that could have been a better move because that’s now seeming to be like the followup here is that yes on paper what you gave up to get Bradley Beal phenomenal deal but the no trade clause kind of locks you in and gives you zero flexibility so Gerald you start do you think that if they quote quote gave up last year and ran it back with the CP3 Landry shamut and all the slew of second rounders to have flexibility this summer and next summer would that have been better no and and I think I think it’s only hindsight that empowers you to say something like that because you can’t make these moves with that type of clarity you make the best possible move to pursue championships now if they had done nothing last summer but run it back like with da and CP3 like we would be sitting there talking about how they didn’t do enough to surround Kevin Durant and Devin Booker with the pieces that they needed to compete for a championship how they wasted a year of what is probably a two to three year maybe fouryear title window like I I understand that now looking back like the grass is always greener on the other side oh we could have you know done this and that we could have run it back like Chris Paul’s leadership we needed his leadership but guys he was missing a lot of games too due to injury and like we couldn’t rely on him every postseason to just stay healthy and we saw he was kind of a shell of himself that third year the first two years were tremendous like I’ve said multiple times I think he’s a Ring of Honor guy so I’m not trying to disparage what he brought to the sun’s franchise but like he was over the hill at that point and we saw it this year he was better as a backup point guard he couldn’t have been your starting point guard and you want to talk about da well we should have kept da da was at least you know he had upside man he wanted more touches he wanted more shots that wasn’t going to be afforded to him on this team you thought the body language and the locker room camaraderie was bad this year this team would have imploded by December there was I have it on good authority that they needed a break they needed a trade for da and the offers were not coming in and not being overwhelming like there were no good offers for DA they they got what they could and the fact that they were able to get a starting caliber Center and Grayson Allen who went on to have the best shooting season in the NBA like that that’s not nothing so I I don’t think running it back was a realistic option well and do people forget how frustrated everybody was with DeAndre Aon too like I guarantee 100% th% that it was the same in the locker room if we were feeling that I can only imagine what the guys in the trenches with him on a day in day out basis felt about him and it doesn’t mean they didn’t like the guy I never had a problem with the guy DeAndre Aon it just got frustrating they needed a reset this this team needed a reset and did Bradley Beal uh disappoint in the playoffs yeah the entire team disappointed in the playoffs they went up against a Defensive Juggernaut who kicked him in the teeth and I don’t think everybody held the blame on that nobody in the big three or the shrinking three as I called them in that series did what they needed to to get a win but that doesn’t mean that Bradley Beal uh was was a bad player the whole year injured yeah and and I we have to accept that but the fact that he was 185 and five on an off year where were you going to find that that kind of stat production anywhere else for the kind of money you were gonna have even if you punted last year you weren’t I just I do not understand it I understand that people are going to be upset because they they got swept in the first round and we were sold the idea of a championship but I don’t again like we talked about yesterday I don’t understand the Doom and Gloom completely going into next year yeah Gerald nil did the problem he is hindsight is that a lot of these issues people are having now is after seeing how everything played out um I’m gonna give some people a refresher uh first of all no one would take that Chris Paul contract let’s start there no one the only team on planet Earth that would have took the Chris Paul contract was the Washington Wizards and that’s how we got Brad Beal but if you ran if you decided not to deal with Washington no one was taking Chris Paul let me give you a little recap days before this happened there was a false report that leaked out that the Suns cut Chris Paul do y’all remember that there was a false report the sons have waved Chris Paul or are about to wave Chris Paul right that’s where we were guys we were gonna either wave Chris Paul or be stuck running it back with a guy that we had already known his run his course so to think that running it back was the was the answer if you didn’t like this year I think uh this year would look fantastic compared to what it would have been if you ran it back I I really believe that Flex I gotta correct one thing goad because there was a team other team in the same summer that took Chris Paul it was the it was the warriors on that same contract but would you rather have Jordan P or Bradley Beal I’d rather have Bradley Beal quite frankly than than Jordan pool and we saw what a mess uh he he was in Washington so even if that was the other option I still would have gone with the option that you one one million perc and again I I think the Chris Paul to Golden State thing materialized once that Brad Beal thing happened but before the Brad Beal thing uh Chris Paul wasn’t going to go we weren’t we we you guys know we weren’t doing that like we were not going to sacrifice Chris Paul give give away Chris Paul for that uh abat whatever you to call it contract of uh of Jordan P so I see what you’re saying afterwards golden state became an option but before there was no one else but Washington so yeah it’s it bugs me out man um the Suns I think did everything right on paper it just didn’t play out this year but to think that it can’t be corrected is to me crazy and to your point Flex like the only reason the suns were able to get Bradley Beal for that low value because you were saying like Chris Paul wasn’t getting them a ton of value on the trade market the only reason that happened was because Bradley Beal had the no trade clause and was able to kind of force his way to where he wanted to go so the Suns didn’t have a lot of better trade options I know it’s tempting to look at what they got for Bradley Beal and be like well why didn’t they trade for somebody else well it’s because of that no trade clause and to be honest the only players that I say you could make an argument for that were better than Bradley Beal that changed hands were christops porzingis and James Harden and James Harden happened during the season so like they didn’t have the value to get any of those guys they got the best best possible player they could well and you got off the landra shamut contract people forget that part of it too and that was a contract that everybody thought was was atrocious as as well so it is what it is I’m not I’m not gonna have a have an aneurism because of this I also think as much as you might be down on James Jones and the sun’s front office just as a whole I promise you they did their due diligence of turning over every stone before moving forward with what they felt was the best option for them at the time and then also going back to the DA thing um a couple comments in the chat about how nerk turns the ball over way more than da can’t hit a layup all so flamed out in the playoffs whatever whatever remember that our biggest complaint about da was the fact of how much money he was making right you guys remember that yeah so we got something that is close enough to what we were getting at a way lesser rate half but that was like the biggest beef with da everyone was like da would be fine if his salary was less so we did that yeah and nerk is not perfect by any means we’ve talked about the finishing we’ve talked about the defense nobody here is saying that like they did the right thing in terms of upgrading the center spot I think you could make a case that Aon would have been a better fit but at the same time like nerk is not a former number one pick on a $30 million salary he’s he is what you expect him to be and he’s also just as importantly a guy who is a supportive teammate not to say that da wasn’t but a guy who Embraces his role and understands like I’m not gonna get a ton of shots on this team and that’s okay da was a younger guy who wanted to prove himself in this league who wanted to prove he could take on more of an offensive role and that just wasn’t really in the cards for him here in Phoenix so I think it was better for both sides to have moved on there and you got the best three-point shooter in the NBA along with it potentially so I mean yeah it’s that was a home run trade for me too so we have two Super Chat psycho blue sentus one and they said basketball cthulu also wants to point out that no no one else was taking that landre shamit contract either so you couldn’t shop much anyway so to your guys’s point about Landry also being included in that a saint ship bag in the chat sent us one and they said if KD asks out do we lose book and Beal no no no no and and I don’t think we’re nowhere near that yeah we’re nowhere near that either so I I think it’s an exercise that we have no idea how it will play out anyways so yeah all right we’re gonna continue this conversation here in just a minute but I want to remind you that our friends over at Circle K are hooking everybody up all summer long with 79 cents it’s only one year and they do have some time we talked to Brad at the end of the season and he told Gerald like this wasn’t a one-year window the window is still open for these guys so how do you envision things getting better in the future uh I mean I mean coach Bud helps you know I I think that the moves in the front office the moves on the bench with Coach Bud uh another year continuity another year reps another M year of familiarity together um I think helps I think you know kind of revisiting what they did in the summer you know now you do have hindsight on your side so this is where you use hindsight to your benefit you saw the issues you saw the holes you saw what need to be plugged up um you got to see how this you know big three uh Dynamic worked and and what they were good at and what they weren’t good at and so as bad as this year was I think that there’s a lot of opportunity to now digest it analyze it and and make proper corrections after a year of seeing it so um I I absolutely think this team can make some some improvements to be uh significantly better than they were this year ASO I think there’s uh I think there’s one main one that you could make and it’s not going to be popular and I don’t know that it would happen I still think as much as I think Brad be will be better next year I think he’s better served as a six B especially if you wind up with the LeBron James potentially as well I I think that makes makes you a better team in the long run uh if you look at putting him at at six-b and I know people hate when I say this but really think that that’s an option that you have to explore this off season especially depending on do you sign Roy resign royos O’Neal which we expect uh and what other defensive minded guys can you add into the mix I think doing that could be one of the the pieces that could lead to Solutions but I I really do think that Mike buen holer in and of himself you know fixes a lot of the issues not all of them but I don’t think we’re going to see a team that has no passion that doesn’t seem to understand who they are or what they want to be culture is going to be built and I think Bradley Beal will play along with that will help immensely with that and I think that Mike buen hoer can unlock some things with this non-traditional approach to ball handling we saw what he did with Drew holiday with the Bucks and Drew’s not a true point guard he he says that himself he’s not I think there’s a lot of opportunity to improve this team for sure yeah I I think I’m curious to see how buen hoer attacks the multiple ball handler situation um he does have experience working with non-traditional point guards um obviously people are gonna say drew holiday’s point guard he didn’t function like a traditional true floor General point guard that people are envisioning um and I think that bodess well for the Suns offense I think the fact that just getting up more threes will help them cutting down on one to two turnovers a game like we’ve talked about that will help them suddenly you go from 25th in the league in turnovers if you just cut out one to two to a top 10 team in terms of taking care of the ball it’s not as difficult as it sounds um and and I do think like there’s something to I I know people hate the word continuity at this point but they didn’t have any like it’s not just the fact that they only played 40 some games together it’s that they were so broken up that they didn’t even have like three or four weeks at a time for the most of the Season where they had all three of those guys available one night it was one guy out the next night it was two guys out then it was one back like they never had a chance to build anything and sustain it um beyond that stretch from Christmas to All-Star break which guess what was their best stretch of the season so I do think having that under their belt having more familiarity and having a coach who hopefully will have more of an offensive system that can balance these different talents will help in a lot of respects but I do think it’s encouraging the way that Beal was able and willing to embrace different roles throughout the season season and I think he was the one that had to adjust more than anybody in terms of okay now you’re off the ball now you’re running point for us now you’re taking on primary defensive assignments now you’re a glue guy who’s basically doing the dirty work on both ends like it’s not an easy thing to navigate in your first season with a new coaching staff with all new teammates like people forget that too there was no built-in system here for him to be incorporated into everybody was trying to figure this stuff out as they went and I think that does matter you look ahead to next season hopefully the coaching staff will be able to capitalize on this core group’s familiarity and build on it I think when it comes to Brad too because his role had to shift the most he probably felt the most pressure to not quote unquote make waves or step on feet as far as Devin and Kevin go right he probably felt like there was a lot of pressure on him to not take away from those two guys on this team and finding the right balance of that has got to be difficult and I would hope that they’ll be able to iron out the wrinkles of that balance moving into next season and I’m G to jump ahead of myself here but I want to talk about leadership because I feel like that was one of the big areas that was pretty glaring for this team this year it didn’t feel like we had the right leadership or the leadership wasn’t working and I think making a coaching change and bringing in coach Bud immediately helps improve that but from a player and floor perspective do you think Bradley Beal should take on more of the quote unquote vocal leader role that we ask for on a regular basis since we know Kevin and Devin we know that they can they can communicate but they’re more quote unquote lead by example guys right inherently yeah yeah yeah I I think I think it’s a very worthwhile question to ask because I think we can all agree that leadership communication details all these things that even the guys were talking about during that playoff loss to Minnesota could be better next season I think with book we heard a lot from the guys about how he was the most vocal one um we didn’t always see it in a demonstrative way on the court but I do think behind the scenes book was trying to take on more of that leadership role I think KD is your quintessential lead by example guy because of the way that he attacks practice the way that he sets the tone I don’t think that’s something to be overlooked but at times in terms of vocal rawr leadership um KD is not necessarily the guy I think that’s an area where Bradley Beal can hopefully step into that a little bit more uh now that like you said linday he would be more comfortable in year two with these guys maybe that’s something that he can fill because we saw it at times especially that last week of the season the last game in in Sacramento and then Minnesota like he was a guy that was demonstrative you know the whole its time thing that’s great for the fans but it can also be good for your teammates to see you that hyped up that visibly hyped in a fourth quarter where you’re kind of taking over and willing your team to Victory um but some of that is tied into performance as well so I don’t want that to be lost on book and KD because at the end of the day like if you’re a raah ra leadership guy like Patrick Beverly can be that guy all he wants but if he’s averaging Five Points a game it only takes you so far you know what I mean so like there’s got to be a combination of that and I’m hoping that next season there’s a happy kind of marriage between all three of these guys different leadership styles um and under coach Bud hopefully it’s not as important because you look at the Celtics not a lot of people are talking about like well who’s the leader who’s the vocal leader no one gives a [ __ ] if you’re just better than everybody else and you have a really good team so like that’s what we we should be hoping for with the Suns not somebody to like step up and I’m leader a you’re leader B just be better and collectively be better in that respect yeah I’m sorry but you can only the the rah rah yelling on the court showing you know getting hyped up is all for the fans that’s not that’s not what’s going to lead you to a championship the freaking Spurs during their run were one of the most boring teams we’ve ever seen you know in terms of that kind of crap kawh Leonard was boring as all hell and has won M multile championships like that I don’t I don’t think you have to scream and uh and flex and do all these things you know it’s fun for the fans and Minnesota fans are loving Anthony Edwards doing that but the core fundamental problem here last year was the fact that they did not buy into their coach it seemed like there weren’t systems that they weren’t being held accountable at times leadership starts with that coach because the coach sets the culture he sets the tempo he sets everything that you then fulfill as as players and Brad Beal Devin Booker Kevin Durant doesn’t matter unless you have that at the top Mike buen holer brings that and I think you will see Brad Beal continue to be kind of that more vocal give the sound bites be the guy that that gives you a little bit of that on the court Booker will lead communication wise in behind closed doors which is perfectly fine to me I don’t need to see it publicly as long as you wind up winning I don’t care to your point there and then Kevin Durant is Kevin Durant and leading by example like you said Gerald matters in the daytoday but he’s never going to be that guy that that is outwardly emotional or you know the guy that does the cam and and male stuff like it no and he doesn’t have to be it starts with the coach they’ve addressed that and I need to see how it looks with Coach butd yeah I love your uh San Antonio example because you know you had Tony Parker you had Tim dunk you had Mono neither of those guys were really demonstrative uh you can never really say one or the other was the leader of that team even like you said even later on with Kawai he was a young quiet dude uh the leader was papovich that was the leader that was the guy um Kevin Durant say something that still intrigues me before the year ended and they had the you know they asked him that question he say who’s the co who’s the leader of the team coach um coach is supposed to be the leader of the team well that coach we got coach booser right from the Greg papovich tree so you know you’re getting that type of Talent on your bench you’re getting that type of leadership I think Devin Booker Kevin Durant and Brad be all lead in their unique way um I don’t think any of them is built to be that number one front of the line go as I go I’m the leader you listen to me I don’t think they’re built like that they’re all different guys but I think if you mix that together along with a general in a coach like coach bud that’s GNA say I’m gonna take the strengths of Devin Booker you know behind the scenes in the locker room I’m G to take the strengths of Kevin Durant being a leader by example I’m going to take the strengths of Brad Beal being a little bit more demonstrative and positive and mix that all into a nice little bowl and get the best of it and I’ll navigate it for y’all I’ll help navigate and mediate that stuff as we go I think that’s what I’m looking forward to and I think that’s the best solution well look Lindsay Lindsay’s our leader and we won’t shut the hell up so she never gets to be vocal go ahead Lyn that’s fine it is what it is especially remote shows they’re awkward anyway but I get what you guys are saying and I and I am on board with it but I do think there is something to be said like sure espo a lot of that stuff is for the fans but we also had conversations around body language this year and that’s in a public facing situation we had Grace and Allen politely pleading with the fans to be more enthusiastic at games you know what gets fans enthusiastic at games things like that yeah bub checking in because we are excited to see what bubo is gonna bring to the table like a hard foul a a Monster Jam somebody yelling at the crowd pumping their chest up like you want that atmosphere you have to also kind of help create it a little bit at least with this fan base like we have we it is what it is like we are not that like we’re not going to show up and be loud and have the exact same energy night in and night out as a fan base like we’re not and I also think it’s contagious to teammates as well when you see Bradley Beal like in those two games towards the end of the season that you brought up Gerald when you saw him and the emotions that was com that was infectious not just from a fan perspective but also his teammates perspective I think there’s something to be said about the importance of that I agree but I don’t I agree with that but the the leader ship conversation I think that’s different than getting the fans pumped up getting them involved I don’t think that that’s a team leader aspect that’s a that’s a Vibe that’s a how this team feels and I I think a lot of that was a byproduct of it was pretty obvious they weren’t buying into Frank vogle and what he was trying to sell too so body language changes I mean we’ve all been in that environment I mean Saul’s not here we can say it we get in that environment at work I’m just kidding but you know like if if you if you don’t have leadership that you like you can have the body language that dips things that that that the energy is different so I think there’s a lot of factors that go into why it wasn’t energetic why the body language may have been bad but I don’t think think that’s a form of leadership that is a form of leadership creating a good environment uplifting one another that is a form of leadership it’s not just about the communicating the X’s and O’s it’s not just about how you show up at practice it’s also making sure that people come together that if somebody has an issue with Coach you figure it the F out you don’t just giggle in the corner when he’s trying to give you a raw raw speech at half time see I think they did BR together on the road at at home like for events and dinners that’s a form of leadership I think they did come together in their hatred of him and that’s why they they all look the same way like they did Galvanize and the fact that they didn’t want to play for this guy anymore like I I will I will say this Lindsay you bought a great Point um there were a lot of times you know for people that don’t know we watch all these games together we’re locked in a room we don’t miss a second we have arguments about certain things and and perspectives how many times did we see boo check in uh make a couple good plays the stadium go crazy Us in studio watching we’re energetic and then we don’t see B bow again for the next 40 minutes like how many times did that happen we’ve seen that plenty of times this year where you know there were moments like that and then you look at the box score at the end of the game and you’re like damn we didn’t we didn’t see this guy again so it goes back to coaching for me I think a part of being a great coach is being able to uh see those things to diagnose those things to know when you need your your team needs a influx and energy when they’re a little flat you know maybe when you need to call a quicker timeout so that because you can lose a basket like that Clippers game what was the scor G uh 354 354 I mean we were watching this game together and you guys remember we were calling this live uh espo what was it seven nothing I was like time out like and and he just kept it rolling and kept it rolling and kept it rolling so I think that feeds into the psyche of the team sometime and when you get to those situations um I think it becomes difficult to to muster up that enthusiasm when maybe you’re in a situation where you feel like things aren’t going the way they should so I I AG that’s leadership is being the person who turns it on when it’s hard to do it yeah but if you if you don’t believe in the guy that’s in charge it’s hard as a player to be like well we’re just gonna Galvanize and come together and win in spite of this like it’s it’s hard to do that if you don’t believe in the leadership that’s already in place and I get what you’re saying but I do think also like winning just cures all ills like I I think a a lot of this comes down to they were losing games that they should have probably won they coughed up some fourth quarter leads they had some bad turnover games um they had a lot of games I think uh Grayson Allen said we had like 10 or 15 games this season where at the end of it we were like man we should have won that one I think that contributes to the frustration and and you’re right like leadership is finding a way to get through that sort of thing but winning makes that a lot easier and so I think if you have a different head coach in place who has a system that’s been proven to work in multiple locations that he’s used to churning out 50 to 60 win seasons on the regular hopefully a lot of this is in the rear viiew mirror when we Circle back to talk about this in a couple of months because I do feel like if this team is winning at a consistent rate we’re not talking about leadership we’re not talking about body language we’re we’re talking more about oh wow we learned such and such about this guy because now these guys can open up and share more their personalities or be more demonstrative on the court for fans to enjoy I think when you’re struggling and you’re going through it and you’re so in your head about okay what are we doing what who likes to do what on the court it’s a lot harder to have those moments where you feel like you’re locked in and on top of things and you know shouting at the crowd that type of stuff yeah I agree well we shall see I suppose in year two with this big three what and how things change but something needs to change and even if it was as simple as swapping out the head coach then fingers crossed that works fingers crossed hey it’s a long weekend y’all uh Monday is a holiday so if you’re looking for something fun to do you could go to some form of a ticketed event and then 1. Who Cares! – the media is trying to make something out of Bronny his game is total TRASH 🗑 Fire Clown 🤡 James Jones Couldn’t hit the thumbs down fast enough

  2. On a serious note if this goes down we will definitely be hated more . But at the end of the day me not being a lebum fan he really fills all our missing holes (pause) like they said 1.leader/someone to actually take command
2 a Pg and like it or not the man can facilitate
    3. Size play the four he can actually get boards move kd to 3 so he not being pushed around
4 man still has a gravitational pull so frees up the others
5 he can still jump and go for dunks I don’t think we have someone who can actually yam it down . And at the end of the day with our luck that pick is gonna be a bust or a regret so why not .

  3. Oh God… If FlexCUSES says it's a possibility… IT AIN'T HAPPENING! That guy been WRONG ALL YEAR! 😂🤣😂

  4. Can y'all make this the last Bronny talk this is lazy. Y'all spend way to much time talking about this . This is as bad as ESPN forcing Bron down our throats every day. Just gotta be more creative

  5. If that happens, you must trade Nurkic to get a defensive center.

A lineup of Beal, Booker, KD, Lebron, and Capela/Richards would be solid

  6. We might have a legit chance to have KD LeBron and Book on our team it’s a no brainer to try our best to make it happen! All you butt hurt 10+ plus year Suns fans that can’t let go your LA hate to deny potentially landing LeBron James (!!!!!) beat it!!! You guys love not having any championships I see!!! Well Suns fans do want LeBron if it’s possible so get it over it or support another team because damn sure will support the team and LeBron if we can bring to Phoenix and sell out seats every night!!!!
