Phil Jackson did a good job of disguising his “play the right way, behave how I want you to behave” attitude with more successful teams with generational superstars. It was not so easy to hide that contempt for young black dudes when your job is to build on the organic success of a group of underdog players. It was very clear from his first few transactions as the GM that he wasn’t fit to be a leader in the modern basketball era.
Also lets not forget that Phil was one of the foremost opponents of Iversons off-court style and spent a lot of time lobbying David Stern to implement a strict dress code.
