“It Starts At Closing These Games Better.” | Chris Finch Practice Sound | 05.27.24

um well you know I think uh it starts at the end you know it starts at closing these games better um you know you look at the the end of the game we had fell asleep on a defensive rotation gave up a corner three um you know we missed a layup we miss we go one for two from the free throw line um we miss an open three um and then the other end you know they make two tough contested shots which they’re really capable of doing um and you know but uh we just not able to close these games mostly that comes down a lot to our offense you know it’s been turnovers and missed opportunities so to me it starts at the end do you think is that the pressure of a new moment for these guys or uh I don’t know that’s yes them I don’t you know I just think it’s uh just just uh you know if you miss a layup you miss a layup I mean I if you miss a open three and you go one for two from the line I mean just we can’t afford a margins of erir aren’t very high so uh you know we just can’t afford them so I I don’t I don’t know if it’s the the moment or or or fatigue or whatever but you know we got to be better was say you know pardon a was saying last like that you know there hasn’t been a moment in this series where got everybody been kind of clicking the way you the other points in the playoffs is is that something that maybe just Dallas is doing defensively that’s preventing yeah for sure you got to give them credit they’ve got a good game plan they’re packing the paint um you know they’re being super directional and where they want to send our guys um they’re long at The Rim they’re doing a good a really good job um you know we we’ve uh been inconsistent on making the right plays against some of that you know I think we need to get some earlier easy stuff we haven’t really pushed ourselves in transition like I’d like to see us so um you know and um yeah so give them credit um but we’ve also missed some good uh good looks by some good players too so that’s up the way Nas and Kyle played in the series you thought about their minutes especially versus maybe cat yeah strug for sure I mean I think Kyle’s a guy that definitely has to have more minutes um and I expect him to do so going in um you know and I mean nd’s played almost 30 minutes last night anyway so um you know I’m just trying to stick with cat even though he was struggling out there just cuz you know it’s going to be we still feel it’s going to be a long series we still feel we got a lot of basketball in us so trying to keep him confident so you into the theory that this team might be a little bitot emotionally spent I don’t sense that no no really so Chris do you see any strategic adaptations you have to make defensively or you have to play better yeah I mean we’ve done a lot of different things defensively you know we’re a little bit we’re dying a little bit by the poison that we’re picking you know and that’s what happens when you have great players who are able to you know they’ve seen a lot of different looks um and uh you know we’ve changed it up we’ve given different looks um so and we’ll continue to do so Chris I think it was in the fourth quarter last night Pao was out on court asking why Luka wasn’t teed up you get an explanation I’m sure you’re get an explanation to why somebody te up but did you get an explanation to why they might not be up yeah I mean I you know the referee in that moment didn’t feel that the reaction reaction was egregious enough you know so that’s what was told to me but I just asked in comparison to the Kyle Anderson one I didn’t that was where the confusion was for me what have you just just Mike in this series way he yeah Mike’s you know Mike’s uh been a bright bright spot you know um battling on defense through some some tough matchups at times um and offensively he’s been you know one of our most consistent guys been very aggressive as he is all all playoffs you know he’s a little hobbled out there but he’s gutten it out you know so he’s been playing well had maybe six rebounds or something like that a low number for him yesterday game be better boards as well what’s what’s maybe CA him to have not his usual standard on the boards this well there’s not a lot of Misses right now so there not a lot of Misses you’re not going to have a lot of rebounds so we got to make a Miss more and then it’ll rebound better you talked about closing the game how important is a quick start in an elimination game on the road um I mean I would say I would rather have a quick start than a slow start so if that answer your question I would say It’s always important to have a quick start um our starts haven’t been a problem though for us really I think um uh again it’s been the closing not the beginning you yeah you shared with us a little bit your approach that game one in terms of having that film session kind of airing the works I guess um how do you do it now what’s see post now do you really dive into what happened in game three or do you not want to have that kind of clutter no I mean listen like the the film session on game one is I think is a little overblown it was a normal film session that most teams every NBA team has you know when you don’t play particularly well um we look at the parts that we play well how can we we repeat those um you know look at the parts that we got to adjust and do better at both coaches and players and that’s just the normal process of all this you know everyone talks about adjustments and surely we make adjustments we make in game between games but the reality is you have to be able to execute these and you have to be able to do them um and you got to be able to sustain them so um you know we look at all that but our guys you know there’s still great energy in our group um looking forward to getting back on the floor today and I know they’ll be ready to go tomorrow so you moved around a lot yesterday how’s it your doctors yelling at me um no KN is fine um you know not a ton of pain just kind of in the way uh so yeah hope hopefully I can do a little bit more each time Chris ANZ I was your primary shot Creator are you is there something lacking in another shot Creator off of it or or what do you think about the shots that you are getting right now in that regard uh uh you know it’s we we’ve had a hard time you know consistently uh creating good offense um we’re doing a better job I thought last night we found a few good things um you know it all goes it all starts with playing quicker and quicker and picking up our decision making um and continue to do that so thanks thank you guys
