What REALLY happened to the Toronto Raptors?
The Toronto Raptors were once the shining example of development, scouting, team culture and winning in the NBA. In years since, they’ve been much closer to a laughing stock.. needlessly trading away picks, missing on the margins, failing with free agents, losing trades left and right, and clinging ever-so-desperately to the hypothesis that Scottie Barnes will make all of those mistakes go away.
Today, I want to talk about loss aversion, how it works, how it applies to our psychology, our minds, to your life, and how much I feel loss aversion has to do with some of the dumbest mistakes the greatest executives make in sports.
Finally, it may be worthwhile to see how loss aversion clouds the Raptors judgment going into this offseason, and how much Masai and Bobby perhaps need to worry about addressing this blindspot. Or have they already done that?
