[Haynes]”I will be very surprised if their next head coach is anybody but JJ Redick…From what I know, he’s doing some background, calling some assistant coaching candidates who might be able to join his staff..He (Pelinka) has fired Luke Walton, fired Frank Vogel, fired Darvin Ham, so he is safe”

Rob didn’t hire Luke Walton lol and I’d argue firing all them dudes was right at the time. The problem was hiring them. So hopefully he doesn’t fuck up this hire.

  2. There are people in the FO that have basically accepted that JJ is the hire.

I don’t get how he’s safe when one of the jobs of a GM is assessing who and who isn’t a good head coach for your team.

According to LA times borego is there today to interview in person.

This front office is such a joke

This just feels like a trainwreck waiting to happen.

If we were rebuilding sure give JJ a shot, but for a team with a 30 year old AD, and a 40 year LBJ hiring a rookie coach is an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

We’re hiring an ESPN analyst as a head coach because our GM likes his podcast

With all this smoke it really seems like the FO is doing a full act to make it seem to LeBron that JJ is the guy. Wouldn’t be surprised if they hire someone else in the last minute.

Looks like a rebuild that the Lakers aren’t calling a rebuild. Hire JJ +resign LeBron = Kobe farewell tour part 2.

Much rather have any of the available assistant coaches over JJ. The FO could ask the new HC to bring on JJ as an assistant, then if the HC is great JJ gets valuable on the job training and is groomed to be a successor. If the new HC stinks, then JJ gets his shot earlier

I don’t think it makes sense to go all in on a guy who has zero coaching experience, and they’ve got no insurance policy if he stinks. Hope I’m wrong and he’s the next Pat Riley with someone quoting this next year after a trip to the Finals

Well so any college coaches or former players can start a podcast that talks x & o. and they will be hired by the lakers huh?

Watch Balmer swoop in and pay him a bajillion dollars. Best case scenario actually!

  14. I wonder if it’s ever occurred to Jeanie that maybe the guy hiring these bad coaches might actually be the root cause of the problem.

Damn.. I thought that was Bobby Heenan upon first glance for a second. RIP Bobby Heenan

Please god no. I’m sure JJ is smart, but the optics of JJ becoming head coach after starting a podcast with LeBron would be ABYSMAL. Not to mention JJ has 0 experience coaching at even a college level, let alone the NBA, we shouldn’t be hiring someone just because they’re a big name. It’s a complete disaster waiting to happen.

I don’t care how knowledgeable JJ is or how cool he is, he has zero coaching experience on any level, we have 1 maybe 2 years of an open championship window, hiring him is dumb asf. All the people gooning over him will be the first to call for his head the first mismanaged timeout or adjustment that costs us games
