Indiana Pacers – Myles Turner trade big offseason call! Indianapolis Colts – least sexy team in May!

beautiful day in Central Indiana and so it is a pleasure to come to you on this day and talk about Indiana Sports Colts Pacers all of that we got lots there’s lots to talk about where it comes to the Pacers what moves are they going to have to make in the offseason to make themselves a little bit more competitive in the postseason that’s the key how can they go about taking the next step forward don’t take a next step back don’t take a step back you’ve been to the Eastern Conference Final now it’s time to go to the NBA finals let’s go let’s dedicate ourselves to pursuing a plan that is going to get us to that Promised Land can the Pacers do that c can Kevin Pritchard get over that hump we’re going to talk about how to do that we’re going to talk about the Colts being the least sexy team in the NFL OTAs continue tomorrow I go on cbssports.com says top 100 story lines 100 days out to the off of the 2024 season I look at all 100 you know how many mentions there were the Indianapolis Colts one and only because they lost Zach Moss via free agency to the Cincinnati Bengals there was no other mention there’s no reason to like feel anything about the Colts good or bad they say that the Titans have a better chance of winning the AFC South than the Texans do I okay how’s that work anyway we’ll talk about that Lexi Thompson is retiring from the LPGA and part of her Instagram message about why is kind of troubling to me and and it’s something that we can all take control of a little bit and I if something bothers it bothers us we can remove it from our lives and we’re going to be okay this is inside Indiana Sports now with Kent Sterling for Tuesday May 28th 2024 brought to you by the great people at my bookie my bookie is awesome you use promo code Kent K NT and you unlock a signup bonus that will be worth up to $11,000 how about that that’s winning before you even play it’s unbelievable and you know with my book you can bet on anything anytime from anywhere my bookie it’s awesome want to remind you subscribe because on Thursday we are going to give away an autograph Jersey from an Indianapolis Colts player a current player last week we gave away a Darius Leonard autograph Jersey no what Darius is fine autograph Jersey but now it’s going to be a current cold he’s a former Colt of course and the Colts are better for it I and I think Darius Leonard Shaquille Leonard is better for it as well I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing I I think he just kind of needs to get away from football for a bit and we we’ll see if that’s where he stays he still thinks that he’s one of the best defensive players in the NFL we saw last year he can’t play he didn’t he doesn’t move the way he needs to move in order to play football like Shaquille Leonard plays so that’s the way that goes hit the thumbs up that’s the like button I like every video I watch on YouTube because it’s the polite thing to do and if you want to make a contribution make a contribution it’s a nice thing to do include a comment or a question and we will share it with the group look at those flowers aren’t those awesome beautiful my wife does great work in the backyard did a lot of work on the backyard today she did all right let’s talk about the Indiana Pacers and what they need to do to be more competitive last year you know the great thing about the NBA and the NBA Playoffs is as you March through you play against tougher competition and as you play against tougher competition you’re going to be exposed in ways that you weren’t in earlier rounds we talked about it this morning in that first round match up against the Bucks Miles Turner turned the ball over a total of three times against the Knicks he turned it over less than two turnovers per game and then against the Celtics he turned it over a minimum of four times in each of the four games a Celtics sweep so they’re going to the NBA finals and it’s up to Kevin Pritchard and Chad Buchanan Ryan car the whole Brain Trust of the Indianapolis Colts to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it and it’s not hard when you get exposed in the way the Celtics exposed the Pacers in the last two minutes and don’t fall into the Trap of of believing that because for 46 minutes you are the better team in three of the four games because the first 46 minutes don’t matter what matters is winning time and winning time is the last two minutes of the game and in the last two minutes of each of those three games the Celtics absolutely dominated play and what of the reasons they do it is they knew where the Pacers were weak they knew where to allow the ball to get and they knew what to do to go get the ball from the Pacers when it went there they were re they are really really smart you know what Rick Carlile is a really really smart coach but if you’ve got players like they they got players who they’re all 24 halton’s 24 neh Hart’s 24 n Smith is 24 yeah Turner’s 28 siakam’s 30 McConnell’s 32 but you get the idea a lot of these guys are very very young Drew holiday and El Horford are not young they’ve seen it all they’ve watched it all they know how to be coached and they know to do what’s necessary to win games and they did in this series four times out of four Pacers never got off the schne against the Celtics because they knew we’re going to be specific about Miles Turner they knew how to expose Miles Turner Miles Turner doesn’t know what he doesn’t know so what he’s going to do is he’s going to do what he thinks he does best which is not what he does best when he puts a ball on the floor in the last two minutes the Celtics go and get the ball they bring the weak side help they start grabbing at the ball and it’s a turnover or they do something similar with seak or they do it with n Smith they understand the traits each guy when under duress you revert back to what you’re most comfortable doing and that’s not hard to Scout and that’s not hard to figure out the tough thing to do and the thing that you must do if you want to be a championship level NBA player top three player on an NBA championship team is you can’t be a guy like Jaylen Brown loves to go to his right right so everybody tries to take that away from it that’s going to be tough for the Celtics when they get to the NBA finals you got to get multiple in the way you attack you have to be able to not just stand in the corner bit hit and hit threes you got to be able to go post up and put the ball in the bucket you got to be able to go post up and then see who’s open and Pop the ball out you’ve got to be able to be multiple in the way you attack as an offense or you become really really difficult to or really easy to defend and your attack becomes very very difficult that’s what happened with the Pacers that’s why with Miles Turner you can’t win so the Pacers is going to have to figure something out they are going to have to hit put miles out there a little bit yeah what do you think and and try to be K about it because you want value back it’s not like selling a you know a couch on Facebook marketplace where it’s like you know 200 their best offer you’re trying to get top dollar you’re trying to get best return on your asset and that’s what Kevin Pritchard and Chad Buchanan are going to try to do with Miles Turner and the reason that Miles Turner is still here is not because the Pacers love him that much it’s because the other 20 t 29 teams don’t and it’s in the best interest of the Pacers to maintain him as an employee rather than let him go someplace else on the cheat so they say affordable $20 million a year ay and I don’t mean to crap all over Miles Turner but Miles Turner just is a very good basketball player he does a couple of things relatively well and those are things that some people some general managers are going to covet he is a four spacing five for a team that wants a four spacing five let me give you Kevin pritchard’s number all right but that’s one thing that they’re going to have to do they’re going to have to find a way to move Miles Turner and get a reasonable return on that asset got to do that because you’re not winning a championship with Miles Turner as a starting center on your team you need to develop Benedict mathine and jarus Walker into starting level players and I don’t know how you do that with Jared Walker because he’s 68 and the Pacers already have a power forward assuming Pascal sakam signs an extension to stay here and I don’t understand how he wouldn’t like the Pacers made that determination when they made the deal you don’t trade player assets and multiple first round picks for a rental you don’t do that so the Pacers are not going to do that he’s 30 years old he’s got a skill set as kind of a a mid-range jump shooter guy he can play for a long time so being 30 that’s not that big a deal but you’ve got to find a way get jerus Walker was the eighth overall pick he has got to get on the Flo and he’s got to become productive Benedict mathine he’s got to become healthy get on the floor and go get Buckets I don’t know where that’s going to be is that going to be in place of n Smith nard nmh hard’s a really interesting guy because in the Eastern Conference Finals he played his ass off he’s really good in the playoffs this year he showed himself to be a guy who can get to the bucket go create offense for his team and guy who’s willing to go you know man up and get a chest into somebody playing defense he’s very affordable he is not going to make even what is he what’s he making 2.1 million per season the next two years very very affordable for a guy as productive as he is is he more valuable could you play mathine at the two move Nim hard and get something back a veteran presence who could do some damage down low get somebody in Indianapolis who can play a little bit and and kind of bring their level of intellect on the floor up maybe I don’t know that’s a tough call nard I thought he played his ass off I thought he was really good and and I thought the same thing about n Smith he couldn’t make shots but that’s not a problem for him or at least it wasn’t before before the allstar break you know first like November December January he shot really well in each of those months he was right around 45% from Beyond The Arc he’s a guy who has shown himself capable of shooting at a high level what do you do with him uh you got to buy low sell high and and NBA financials are really complex you got to have like an MBA to be able to understand what the hell’s going on with the salary cap you got restricted free agents uh you got uh regular old free agents you you got TJ McConnell he’s entering the final year of a deal it’s going to pay him 9.3 million next year he’s 32 now he’s going to be 33 next year so that means if you sign him to an extension he’s going to be like 34 when he starts working for that money is he does he project as a guy at that age who can give you 20 to 25 minutes of really really high energy basketball every single night that’s an interesting question I love TJ McConnell can you imagine what this season would have been like without him what this postseason would have been like without him that was a key guy on this roster absolutely critical because he did all the stuff all the brain workk he did the stuff he figured out the game that’s what he does you need guys who figure out the game like Horford like holiday like white these guys really really Brunson Sten chenzo Hart these guys they know basketball they know how to win basketball games um let’s talk about the Colts OTAs tomorrow no news is good news during OTAs you don’t want any news to come out of OTAs so in the absence of news which is good news for the Colts I went to CBS Sports . top 100 things to know 100 days out from week one kickoff one mention of the Colts and that was Zack Moss being lost to the Bengals via free agency no other mention no mention of Anthony Richardson no mention of Jonathan Taylor no mention of uh ad Mitchell no mention of latu no mention of any of these cats there’s no mention of nothing zero mentions you got 32 teams in the league and in many of these items there’s more than one mention of a team like there’s a mention of the AFC South says that the Titans are more likely to make the leap to the next level than are the Texans which I think is completely crazy and denies the fact that will Levis is a fraud hate to say it but that’s what he is he’s more brand than he is reality that from watching him play for Kentucky I got to tell you I didn’t care much for him and watched on purpose because I thought you know what this is a guy that maybe the Colts are going to go get in the draft by the time I watched that third game I was like he moving on right anyway Colts don’t even get mentioned there when they talk specifically about the AFC South it’s unbelievable so actually it’s quite believable the the Colts really did almost nothing in free agency they signed Joe flacko they signed rayquan Davis to defensive tackle that’s it they kept everybody else they kept all the starters they kept all the Specialists they drafted the first defensive player in the draft but not the guy who they think is most likely to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year I GL to’s really interesting and I think Mitchell’s interesting nobody wants to talk about the Colts and I’m cool with that because you know what may popularity does not project to September October November December January or February the Colts have a shot I think you know what coach of the year I think Shane sten’s about 2 to1 to win that that’s better than even like 32 coaches I think he’s in the top 20 as a guy who could win a coach of the year NFL offensive player of the year I think Richardson’s about 15 to1 if he stays healthy he’s probably top five uh Defensive Rookie of the Year latu 12 to1 why not um although I think that that’s low I it should be more like 7 to one because he was the first draft e defensive draft e taken in the draft he ought to be pretty damn good uh how about the uh Colts his AFC South chance how about uh 5 to one I going to say five to one right now and that’s if they stay the the big Bugaboo is whether Anthony Richardson can stay healthy that’s the thing if he stays healthy I they got a shot to win TW oh did I almost say 12 I’m going to say 10 be happy with that Brad Atkins says can’t be careful talking about Lis and starting a sentence I watched Julie’s going to be checking out that search history that’s funny I did though um and and I want those n and a half hours back to tell you the truth on the shank of a Saturday I did it live I didn’t watch a tape I did it live watching Kentucky football what a buffoon um is Chris Ballard this really the question we may pursue this more tomorrow is he more likely to win the award for NFL executive of the year or to be fired I think it’s about F50 fitty which he’s going to be in the most likely scenario is somewhere in between but I think he could if if the Colts win the AFC South and they win a playoff game I think You’ got to talk about Chris Ballard because look the being the executive of the year is about outkicking coverage right it’s about uh surpassing expectations like we said there are no expectations for the Colts none nobody wants to talk about them nobody wants to project anything related to them they are not a point of interest for National media whatsoever and because of that I think the Colts have a chance if healthy to win those 10 or 11 games and put Ballard in a a position where people are saying hey how about that guy I didn’t even think about him this past off season did he do anything well I don’t know they got a roster that won the AFC South and they want a playoff game if that happens I think he’s got a shot at executive of the year now if things go full scale reversal and somebody gets hurt we won’t mention his name again and there’s 6 and 11 you know what the NFL executive Year talk gers and people are talking about whether Chris Ballard is deserving of the maintenance of that job Lexi Thompson retiring at the age of 29 15 career titles on the LPGA Tour and she says the scrutiny of social media has really been hard for her to deal with don’t get on social media how hard is this this isn’t hard ignore it get a flip phone don’t deal with it Go full on Andrew Luck pay pay no attention to anyone who in their right mind pays attention to people squawking about women’s golf are you crazy go have fun with your life at the age of 29 but if you can’t enjoy playing golf for a living I can’t help you and if you think that you’re game being critiqued by people on social media is unpleasant I can’t help you either this is such an easy problem to solve unplug and same with you and if you got a kid who has like a a sensitivity to criticism don’t don’t get him a smartphone what are you doing keep them off social media period my son genius has never gotten on social media he has no social media profile whatsoever when he’s going to get jobs people are like hey I I can’t find you on social media and he just say nope genius that kid we can all learn something what Ryan to what my son taught me it might be a book I write in the future who the hell knows all right um tomorrow morning breakfast with Kent again little bit later this is what we do it’s a little bit later during this vacation week not doing the radio show this week we’ll be back Monday regular schedule we do have OTAs on Thursday of course course I’ll be there because you know what that’s what you do you watch and you hope that somehow a lightning bolt of wisdom hits you that’s what I’m all about 1. Myles Turner was so much better with Hali on the floor.

Don’t forget we didn’t have Hali the last few games

  2. The problem is Siakam. When he came to Indy, he said a big part of his motivation was to play with Turner, as a stretch 5. If you move Turner, that could be how you lose Siakam and the draft picks. I actually think I agree with everything else you said, but the fact that they're people and not cogs does complicate things.

  3. Floor spacing 5 my ass Kent 😂. Give me a guy who has a position and plays it. This guy wants to be something he is not and they allow it.

  4. Kent, I'm glad to hear you say that Turner can't be dealt in a fire sale fashion. I've got a feeling that the Pacers won't get fair market value for him and, that he'll still be a Pacer when training camp rolls around.

  5. They’re not trading Turner Kent, you as well as at least half of the Pacers fans need to accept that. Is he perfect, no. But he has his moments, and we are not upgrading over him. He’s not gonna go toe to toe with Jokic, but you don’t have to build a team with that kind of center. Multiple teams have won championships or been to the finals the past several years with centers like him.

  6. Turner's turnovers against the Celtics were more due to his back spasms along with playing against a better defense. I believe Turner fits well with this team and proved it this season. This team needs a center that can step out for a 3 or dive down low for a dunk or layup. The issues I had with the lineup against the Celtics was getting very little from Aaron Nesmith and Ben Sheppard. That's 2 starters that were okay on defense but completely inept on offense. I think both those players can improve but to me that was why the Pacers couldn't move past the Celtics.

  7. We need a small forward who can play defense and get a bucket. I think we need a scorer so Turner can focus more on defense instead of trying to be that guy. Andre Drummond would be a good backup center for rebounding but I’m not trading Turner yet

  8. Even when you ask chat gpt
What are the colts going to do on offense

    It knows

Come on Kent get with the program

With Anthony Richardson at quarterback, the Colts are likely to emphasize a system that leverages his dual-threat capabilities. This includes designed quarterback runs, read-option plays, and play-action passes to exploit his athleticism and strong arm.

  9. This is a terrible Myles Turner take. Saying a top 10 center in the league “is just not a good basketball player” is ludicrous.

  10. Levis a fraud and AR isn't?

No starting QB in NFL history has removed himself or been removed from 4 of his first 5 starts then missed 2/3 of season.

Levis started and completed 9 games.

  11. If were talking about trades, id love to see the Pacers acquire Mikal Bridges. Idk exactly whatvthe trade would look like, but personally id be willing to trade guys like Nehmbard, Walker, or Turner if it meant getting Bridges.
