TIL that Nike’s meeting went horribly wrong when one of their representatives mispronounced Curry’s name, calling him “Steph-on” instead of “Steph-en.” Even worse, a repurposed PowerPoint slide displayed Kevin Durant’s name and lost Stephen Curry to Under Armour

Imagine where Under Armor would be if Steph never signed with them
Stephon like the SNL character?
would’ve been easier to just call him steph…
Wow, I’ve totally never heard this before. Where did you get such amazingly new information?!
Old news
This is pretty old news tbh. And even though this is true, the UA shoes fuckin SUCK.
Welp, someone got fired.
I used to work in the entertainment industry and literally did this with a slide deck once. It obviously shouldn’t happen at this level but it’s honestly a pretty common mistake. Some low level lackey screwed up and it has become industry lore forever.
Imagine this being the day you learned this story lol! This is CLASSIC Steph lore!
Under Armor… the company that is so stupid for not riding on that 2022 “Night Night” from Steph.
And I’m here to tell you – Curry was the third PG selected in the 2009 NBA draft!
There’s an interview out there with one of the Nike heads that defended the representative who botched the signing. Nikes so fucking huge, apparently they’re ok losing a generational talent that could have made them billions.
I heard a loooooot of casual fans refer to him as Steph-on when he first came into the league. Glad people figured it out eventually lol
I have always heard they called him Steven Curry… Stephen vs Stephon is much more subtle (and maybe racist?) … but recycling a pitch for a different player is pretty cringy
I mean if I were to say his name wrong, it be Steven curry. Steph ON lol common.
