[Music] I’m excited to pay homage to some of the Nets legends that came before me that you know me being right in the middle of this now and then that will come after me the handles and the range for Kyrie Irving he is putting on a show Kyrie Irving fake oh the defense from kyri two seconds left Irving stops t Peaks and hits Kyrie Irving as Kyrie Irving holding that right shin and bangging the court fans this was a season that had so much promise one of the preseason favorites to start the year the Brooklyn Nets and it all fell apart is this any more questions but you’re not answering the question oh this another asking your question oh my god let’s make another Instagram clip so we could be famous again think about it Durant Irving Harden three of the greatest players in NBA history and they got one playoff series win out of it the thing that keeps circling back to is is that they just got the wrong players you know Kyrie is an issue and KD it’s just this is one of the greats of all time and and he’s being led by by a lesser player The Big Three that never was in Brooklyn is this the biggest failure in NBA history yes or no I say yes I say yes [Music] yes it was supposed to be the game’s next Dynasty three Hall of Famers coming together in the meca of basketball to make a run at the game’s biggest prize however with within 2 years injuries and offc Court drama had torn the roster apart before it even had a chance this brings us to the beginning of this story at the center of it all Kyrie Irving had been on a near decade long journey of self-discovery and finding his home in the league he had quickly risen to the top of the basketball World early in his career claiming the title of one of the most skilled players to ever touch the rock oh no going to work KN oh no Kyrie with a step through sweet going to find the behind the back which way did he go bruising ankles and he goes for [Music] three alongside LeBron James he brought a champion ship to the city of Cleveland but after leaving for greener pastures in Boston had found himself searching for a new home in Brooklyn controversy had followed with outcry against Irving’s personal and political beliefs resulting in somewhat of an exile from his place as a top star in the NBA injuries had kept him off the court in major playoff action and as the 2023 season was underway it was clear that Kyrie needed a new beginning one he would find in the wide openen Skies of [Applause] Texas I chose Dallas uh number one because it really was the most inviting place that I have been to throughout the year I was really um I’m trying to figure out uh how do I do some Recon background information and um figure out what the next few years of my life are going to be like I have three kids I have a wife um you know my my life at home is so amazing and I don’t want to continue to uproot them um and go to different teams and and have any regrets on my NBA career you know that’s what Dallas represents it represents family um you know Unity Brotherhood Sisterhood uh community and overall they they were just really so embracing of who I was as a person and they wanted me to continue to be that so that’s why they were number one on my list it was easy Choice number two hry har time winding down nine on the shot clock a top three and it’s back to seven Irving drives inside shot is good spectacular move there from Kyrie in present day I’m just grateful that I’m here and um I’m able to um really identify the things that you know one would need to be successful at the highest level you know all I care about is winning that’s what I’ve cared about since I’ve come into this league I I knew that uh if I gave myself a chance to be around people that knew more than me that were smarter than me in certain instances and I can learn from then I can be the best version of myself Ball moving Kyrie L clock situation this time he got it away what a sh Fox putting his stamp on the game what a brilliant spin move spin we haven’t established we’ve been starting the league in Luca uh and I feel like I compliment him really well he compliments me really well donic the step back three you look at Kyrie switching hands oh when the English you know I command a lot of attention when I’m out there on the floor uh I can produce a lot of numbers and stats just like some of my teammates um but when you have somebody that you’re next to such as Luca that can also do the same if not more at times um you know you got to learn how to take a step back and and just observe and learn how to be a a player around someone’s greatness of that magnitude and I played with other great players in our league so I’ve I’ve had the experience and I know what I’m doing now and I’m very mature about how I approach every single day really great guy um you know obviously basketball player but it’s just been amazing you know he helps me he helps everybody in the team everybody loves him on the team so he’s just a great guy I feel like I can offer a lot of advice offer a lot of mentorship and um do it without feeling the pressure of feeling alone ever alongside Luca Irving was able to come into his own with the Mavericks averaging a near career high 27 points per game in 20 games with the franchise in 2023 with a reloaded roster entering 20124 it was clear Irving wanted to go all in in Dallas they’ got George back ping and it’s Kyrie with the Finish from and ding in the sker so Kai’s going to have a go right at him wow exquisit Dallas running Kyrie change of Direction drive and what a pass and What A Catch and what a finish you can’t make a better pass Hang Time my motivation has been consistent since I started playing basketball uh there’s a purpose that I lace up these shoes for uh and it’s bigger than me I’ve uh been able to use my god-given talent to get me thus far but obviously it came with some other mental and tangibles that I’ve had to learn and uh just turn into my own so every season is a new start but I also know I’m just building on the equity of the Legacy that I’ve been building since I’ve started this um you know so I wouldn’t say it’s just motivation from my 13th year is it’s more or less a passion uh to be successful [Music] [Applause] [Music] my focus is just on us peing at the right time the regular season is so important and um it’s about developing that camaraderie but we’re ultimately getting ready for what’s coming at the end of the season and um God willing us being healthy and going after a championship and saying that we gave our all to put ourselves in that position to prepare while the Mavericks had given Kyrie a fresh start on the court it’s his personal growth off the court that can be seen as the biggest difference the city of Dallas and franchise has embraced Irving for what he represents a bond that means everything to to the conscious minded star I throw up my twisty fingers because my tribe is tighter than the DNA strand so we we like to have a symbol of peace a symbol of unity a symbol of togetherness and I feel like mffl or the fans culture is is right in alignment with that all even tribe is a movement it’s a revolution um it it’s for those that are out there that see the world from an all even playing field you just want people to be equal and that’s what we’re here on planet Earth to do is to remind everyone that circumstances may be what they are but ultimately what defines you is how you respond and the impact you made on [Music] others the past 5 years have been a roller coaster for Kyrie Irving from public ridicule off the court to frustrations on it it’s it’s been a sou searching Journey for the allstar but in the wide open Texas skies Irving was able to find peace in a community and a franchise that has embraced him with the success of the Mavericks has come freedom for Kyrie to do what he does best play the game of basketball at a skill level that we may have never seen iring dancing prancing PS up three-pointer bang and a foul Irving inside the lamb oh how did that go in Mavericks Take the Lead diye looking to take Joe puts it on the floor stops pops and scores I’m 62 I’m 190 lb I don’t stand out in a lineup of people um sometimes mistake me for other people or they don’t think it’s me because they think I’m taller they think I’m bigger and I just don’t fit the mold of um you know kind of the NBA stature all the time and that’s something I appreciate I I like being amongst my community I like normalizing my journey there was nothing out of the ordinary that I did I I just had a mom and a dad that cared for me selflessly and they did everything possible for me to be in the right rooms around the right environment to challenge myself and also understand that anything that’s worth having you’re going to have to work for it so that power of manifestation came from that understanding and also being real with myself with my expectations and knowing you know if I want to achieve something then I’m going to have to do the things that normal people aren’t willing to doving on the move and through traffic wow what a play fre KY re burries the triple you know sports and entertainment uh can be emotional for people that love it or love to gossip about it so the perceptions are going to run wild anyway it’s about um how I live my life and how I treat my family and how I treat others that’s ultimately what I’m going to be remembered for so the awards are great the fandom is great the you know the hoop lies they like to say is great but I don’t necessarily want the attention I really just want to focus on doing my job at the highest ability now have I gotten distracted along the Journey of of trying to make everyone else happy trying to live a perfect life trying not to make mistakes um you know try to be unreal with my expectations to make others happy to make it seem like I was uh more mature than what I was I had to let go of all those fallacies all those fantasies um all those personalities that weren’t me I didn’t have to live like an impostor I didn’t have to wake up every single day and and strive to make uh perceptions go away or to try to be more understood uh at this point uh being on an icon type of level I I really try to um balance out you know the real world the reality that I live in and then also the responsibility I have as a figure living in this public life um you know it’s not easy but I enjoy every minute of it because I know I put in a lot of hours that you know people don’t see or will never see uh so there’s a deep gratitude I have for the pursuit that I’ve been on the journey that I’ve been on uh and then also most importantly I’m intentional with the space I create for other human beings to listen to what they have to say hear them out and try to help and be a great humanitarian man um you know I’m not going to get it right every day but I’m I’m going to wake up the next day God willing and push forward uh to make the world a better place so basketball helps me do that uh it’s an incredible platform to be on that I don’t ever take for granted especially the NBA uh but the international world is always yearning for more and I found my peace of mind knowing that I can also do other things outside of basketball to make the same impact if not more [Music]
