I’ve been on the castle at 4 knecht at 8 train for a while now. Pull the trigger.

Someone sell me on knecht. I’d rather have a younger player with higher defensive upside. Dont get me wrong knecht is a great player, but he provides next to nothing defensively. He’ll be pretty good offensively for sure, but I’m not sure if I see a high ceiling for his offensive game either because of his lack of speed and quickness. I mean we see 23 year olds dominate college every year, how often do they actually pan out? I also see quite a bit of redundancy drafting him as well due to vassell. I feel like vassell does pretty much everything knecht does, but better. I don’t want to be misunderstood, I actually like his game, and I would definitely be open to the spurs drafting him 8. But I just don’t know if it makes that much sense to me. I feel like the the spurs will have better options at 8, even if it means swinging for the fences

We need people that can sink open shots so Knecht would be a good option for that

Feels like a McDermott ceiling. Is that the hope at 8 in this draft?

  5. A-Rusty-Cow

Great shooter but I dont know about his game outside of that. Didnt seem like he was great at creating shots on his own and his cold shooting nights are freezing

I hope not. Draft should be about potential, if we’re looking for a win-now shooting wing there are plenty of guys in FA we could target

His poor defense is really worrying. I’m not sure that can be fixed either because the main problem that I can see is that he has a slow reaction. He always reacts a second after the opponent makes a move, by which time the opponent’s gone. If his defense doesn’t improve to at least average level, he won’t be a starter, so I’m not sure he’s #8 pick worthy.

If we do get him “old man dalton” is a pretty funny nickname

  9. CoyotesSideEyes

I hope not. The history of taking guys that old that early isn’t great

I want to see the upside, but I have trouble seeing much become more than another Doug McDermott, and I like Dougie but I wasn’t sad to see him go with his lack of defense

  11. postpostpunkdad

Would be sick to have a worse but younger Doug McDermott

Can I just say that while it’s entirely possible that the Doug McDermott comparison is accurate for Dalton Knecht it also feels like the absolute laziest comparison to make. There’s a white wing who shoots the three in the draft? Well what white wing who shoots the three was just on the Spurs, draw a line and we’re good. There’s a reason Daryl Morey required his staff to include cross-racial comparisons on players so they didn’t get stuck in the trap of the most obvious comparisons.

  13. The spurs are connected to every rumor nowadays

I watched this dude play every night for Tennessee. He’s not just a shooter, he can score at all 3 levels, can create, or play off ball.

He was Tennessee’s only real offensive threat outside of some good nights from Zeigler, so he spent his energy on offense, because Barnes runs a defensive first team.

They had the SEC DPOY in Zeigler and had one of the best team defenses in the country, so he played his role he was asked to run, well.

He’s absolutely cold blooded in clutch, attacks downhill, and is one of the best college corner 3 guys I’ve ever seen, and has the ability to go nuclear like few can.

Watch the UNC (before he got injured at the end) or Kentucky game film, or anything from the NCAA Tournament.

Yes he is an elite shooter. His defense isn’t nearly as bad as people say. He’s 23 ffs guys he’s not 33. He would fit now and later. Dude made big game shots and would be a 3rd or 4tj option at best. We really should take him with 8tj pick if he’s still there

  16. Bonesawisready5

Man y’all see one white guy with a short hair cut and everyone thinks Doug. Dude is a far superior athlete, dunker and is more explosive than Doug ever was. Doug literally just turns and watches players blow by him, Dalton tries to stay with his man but footwork and other fixable things keep him from staying on ball. Off ball his defense is better than Dougie’s

  17. OctoberTaco

As much as i like him, and i think he will have a nice career. I hope not. Spurs should go for more upside in this draft, and if we still suck, next year we have tons of picks and future picks to add a real 2nd piece in the 2025 draft.

Wemby isnt stupid, people need to relax with the win now stuff. Take some swings in this years draft, grab Wembys bud Salaun and a guard. Id be ok for trading back and getting a guy like Collier.

I get a feeling Knecht is the guy that goes 5/8 from 3 off the bench in that random playoff game that your team needs to win. Feels like a more complete version of Mc Dermott and Bertrans, hoping he can be a passable defender. Wouldn’t mind at 8
