Dallas Mavericks Interviews Before NBA Finals vs Boston Celtics: Luka Doncic, Jason Kidd
all right you you call Bost investing in basketball investment leue uh when you look what stands out to you in terms of the way to take and challenging guys uh first of all the kind of players they have uh and they’re coach very well so both things they have amazing players they’re coach very well uh and I think everybody knows their role uh they have some great weapons uh so I would say look at this point um you know you’re a first time Dad how much does having a daughter put the game into perspective and you know the biggest stage of your career uh I mean it’s the best thing in the world being a dead uh just coming home uh every day I mean not every day but when we home uh is the best thing in the world and just helps me ready to everything not just basketball how was a lot between and what sorry how the live between and you Jones how will that be instrumental in a series like this against those ly Defenders I mean we’ll see because you know they I think they play different different defense that we’ve seen uh they do a lot of mismatch I mean cross matches uh so uh that’s the way we got to figure out how to attack that I wanted ask if you can put um the impact of dirt W on your career just his impact in the words a lot U you know I remember my first year when I came here uh you know it was so real to be on the same team as Derk nitzki uh obviously I wish I could play with him more uh with that last season uh I mean his last season my first was was amazing just experience uh helped me a lot especially coming in the NBA not knowing what to expect what kind of player I’m going to be uh so he helped me a lot just seeing him uh work every day even in his last season uh the amount of work he put in and everything did he give you any advice to finals yet I yeah not yet because you’ve done this now for a long time playing professional basketball is this hard at all are you used to it hard yeah is it difficult it’s very hard is it what’s specifically about is be hard everything uh you got to see watch a lot of film you got to work uh and it’s very hard I don’t think people understand how hard it is uh to win games in this league especially in the playoffs uh so I think we ear to be here uh we deserve that uh because every game we play in the playoffs was really hard to winon [Music] [Music] with a couple of days game obiously six days between games how much is that time that layoff kind of help with recovery with about the same uh it didn’t I mean didn’t get any better uh I me a good amount of rest to get that better uh but it’s it’s been more days you know so uh hopefully I’ll see I’ll check in the game one if it’s better or not uh but it’s been great to have some rest for sure L do you have any comment on chanler Parson’s comments about your relationship with Christ what comments said that you didn’t mind playing with him you see that’s why I haven’t watch a lot of that cuz people don’t know I talked to CH Parson May twice in my life so I don’t know how he would mean that U but me and K have a good relationship um I don’t know way people to say otherwise Luka does this team feel different for you just from teams prior does chemistry feel different or the bond or Brotherhood from when just other teams that you’ve been a part of here uh I mean I always had that 20 22 run you know we had great chist streak we stayed together and I feel the same same thing with this team you know we’ve been together for like five months four or five months and we made the NBA Finals you know like I said it’s been really hard uh but you know like I said we deserve this and our cameras is great and we stay together you that being said what are you most looking forward to other than hosting the trophy what he was with forward just playing the M finals every kid that plays basketball dream about this so I was one of them just playing the finals since you came here one thing i’ we’ a lot of us have heard is well Luc is not very athletic he’s not I’m sure you’ve heard it does that ever bobing you no I’m letting in different ways they don’t see so not everything is jumping and running fast L you mentioned being a dad is everything to you you mentioned being a dad is everything to you as your daughter gets older what can you tell her about facing the hard things and overcoming obstacles and how to do that oh that’s a long way to go I didn’t think about it um but I would just say uh do everything that he can to be happy uh you know the least problems you have the happy is going to be so just be happy that’s all that matters [Music] how are you doing today everything’s great little little rain I going to do mic sorry um Jason I want to take you back to your time with USA basketball and playing with you know Coach K what about his Dynamic um just leading all of the superstars in the league at that time has maybe translated to you working with Luca and Kyrie and you know just the status of who they are as a player is there anything from that time in your life that you can translate to where you’re at in your coaching career yeah I think um I you know when you talk about Coach K um you get to see him on the sideline you get to uh see him you know on TV and the commercials um but to be able to play for him in for the Olympic team in ‘ 08 um as close as I got to him is playing against him um and his Duke team but uh to just see how day one he handled um everyone’s you know ego uh in that meeting room um was Dynamic and uh the people who you know are close to him or around him a lot um you know he he he doesn’t um he can’t swear at times um and so I didn’t know that so that that kind of took me by surprise um but I thought the way he just handled the the Eagles in that room of letting them be them but also talking about coming together as as a unit and um I thought Coach K did an incredible job with that o08 team um to be able to handle those type of egos uh to have a mission to talk about winning the gold medal from day one um he was very consistent um but very honest and told the truth and that that was one of the things that I enjoyed you know playing for him and being around him is he told the truth he told you where you stood and what he wanted and so um just being honest and so when you’re honest with your stars um the respect goes up and when you look at Luka and Kai I’ve always told those two the truth and we’ll continue to tell them the truth um to stay on um the 18 we’ve already talked about how you guys in 2011 were on the team bus and it was kind of the same thing you were with the Olympic team what are some of the parallels that you used from those experiences that helped you with this like from Abu Dhabi to now yeah Abu Dhabi seems like that was like three years ago um I think um uh just you know chemistry and creating a team team is it’s not that it’s hard um and so it takes time um and To Be steady and be consistent um and so um as a coach you’re fighting to be consistent um you have to be able to Pivot um because you’re trying to learn your team um understand you have Luca and Kai That’s great um but there’s other guys too and that’s again we’ve always talked about team uh we know Luka going to get a lot of the attention but it’s it’s the others too that that count just as well and so um Abu Dhabi I thought it was a great time for kyuka Madrid but I thought it was a great time for the team um to to be able to spend more time together than normal and so um we were able to create that atmosphere that chemistry and Trust um that’s where it all started and we talked about it but the steadiness and just being consistent um you know from Abad to today you know it’s not easy um with winning and losing um emotions come with that but I thought as a coaching staff we’ve been consistent and also the players have been consistent and we’ve given the the players the platform to express themselves um of their likes and dislikes uh and so um as a coach you got to be able to Pivot um but we’ve asked them to to come to work with a positive attitude in the group has and so um that’s what’s really helped us get to where we are today coach the uh the Mavericks have built a great core of players they’re also building a core of Leaders with h you getting the contract extension now Nico gets one how cool is that to see just to see the Mavericks committing to you to Nico and you know for the future yeah I think it’s great um when you talk about Cuban’s vision of hiring Nico and myself um he should get you know credit for that and then also for Patrick to come behind that and uh and to give us a new deal so we’re grateful for that um we still know there’s a lot of work to be done um but that’s u a compliment uh to be able to get a new deal um that that reassures that we are doing something right um but we still understand that the work there’s a lot of work to you know to be done that’s to win a championship and so we have an opportunity here against the Celtics uh to do that so um hopefully we can but if not we continue to keep you know you know pushing forward staying being steady and uh keep building a championship organization uh how you seen porzingis adapt his game to be able to fit as well as he has in Boston and then with him coming off of uh injury you know how does his return changed the dynamic of what you’re looking at versus you know the team they had out there the last couple series well they were good without them um they’re going to be pretty good with them um and so um when you look at the return his ability AB ility to to space the floor um you always talk about the offensive side but we’ve talked about both sides offense and defense because he’s underrated rim protector rebounds the ball um understands uh he fits in with that group they made him very comfortable uh you can see that from day one and so again his ability to shoot the ball with range uh put the ball on the floor post up the small U puts a lot of pressure on your defense and so uh keep it real simple that Ball’s moving uh onto the next uh they the ball doesn’t stick a lot of times so uh he fits right into what they’re trying to do coach I had two questions for you you detail this season is pretty weird you guys changed ownership you don’t see that a lot especially with the success you guys maintained did it change did that change your ownership at all change your day-to-day routine at all um and now it didn’t it didn’t change the the routine now um so your level of communication with Mark and ownership is the same as before yes yes uh the other thing was you’ve coached your way to the NBA finals you played your way to the NBA finals was it as much fun coaching it as was to play it play your way to there oh a lot harder a lot harder to coach it’s much fun oh it’s fun um but it’s harder um player as a player is easy you have a little bit more control um you you you yeah it’s as a player is a lot easier um as a coach it’s harder but it’s gratifying and and you it does feel good to be able to be here um you put in a lot of time um I got to wear glasses now because I you know you watch so much video so as a player I didn’t have glasses so there’s a little change there but I think it’s it’s fun um it’s chess um I love playing chess and understanding to put uh the guys in a position to be successful uh on and off the floor so as a coach um it is fun it’s a lot harder but um you have to enjoy it cuz you never guaranteed to be back here and that’s as a player too um 11 that was the last you know we felt we could do it again but we never made it back um these games will be played over the course of almost a month how do you just deal with the mental challenge of the time in between the the games yeah I think um you forget it’s June but it’s um it’s been great I think the time after game five to be able to have the two days off uh to let guys mentally and physically um recharge um now um you know we’ve been talking about Boston since Monday yesterday so um now it’s you know our goal is to play for another three weeks um and so that’s you know what we’ve talked about as a group um just take one one one game at a time um one day at a time and make sure that we’re all doing the right things uh to be mentally and physically fresh and ready to go once uh Thursday starts coach I asked Luca um just about the impact of Dirk on his career and what he’s learned from him what do you what do you think that uh Luca can learn from Dirk’s Championship run when he led the team now Luca is leading the team what do you think he can learn from Dirk I think patience um just understanding uh Dirks uh had it took him two times to get there you know and so um just patience uh just understanding I think game six um he didn’t have a great first half um he wanted it so bad that you know he was pressing a little bit I think uh coming in the second half he relaxed a little bit and let the game come to him I think just patience and and trusting that you’ve done all the hard work um and now it’s just about your talent and putting your your team in a position to to win and uh Luca has done that here in the last three series and so hopefully he can do it again Jason up here to your left thank you for your time today you’ve talked to us several times about how you stay present throughout whatever is going on not too high not too low is that a lesson you learned via basketball or A Life Lesson and how has it helped you throughout the chapters of your life yeah I think um I learn them later in life uh uh being introduced to different people um sometimes when you’re young you you you you think about the future you think about other things and not the present and you sometimes let great opportunities get away from you so um I’ve learned that later in life but um I’ve tried to share that with this this group of staying present um staying steady um and continue to keep working um good things will happen if you if you do work and it’s going to you’re going to be sore it’s going to hurt a little bit but that’s all right you know good things will happen um and so um being in the present um sometimes we we we’ll you know think about what tomorrow has when I promised tomorrow so you know try to to try to enjoy today try to enjoy the presence of each other um and that’s that’s what you know I’ve learned here of late and I’ve tried to share that you know with these young men and whoever else I come in contact with thank you everyone

Grant coming in live and alive, my man
I don t mind his Dad representing the Slovenia Press in the Finals.
Luka and Kyrie are so good together 💙
What are these crappy questions, these journalists suck. They're terrible. Trying to bait him on answering a stupid question about KP and the other is asking stupid questions about his family members when this is the finals.. ask the right questions, stick to basketball damn it.
Bum azz Chandler Parsons wishes he was a quarter of what Luka is on the court. Imo, was the WORST big signings made by Cuban. Irrelevant fool been a Luka hater & trying to put him in a bad light before the Finals with clicc bait BS says alot about his character. Bum on the court & on podcasts.
Luka Will be the first player to average 50ppg in the final pin it
The questions every week about Luka's daughter is very relevant and not creepy at all.
