One of the reasons why I was drawn to the team was the history and how Bill Russell and even Red Auerbach took important stands against racial injustice.
I say this to say, the fact that most people use the “racism” narrative to hate on us is so stupidly disrespectful it’s hard to describe.
Maybe if I experienced TD Garden I’d be able to understand but, as most people hating on the Celtics haven’t and have only what I have to go off of – I still find it very stupid.

Other Boston sports success, big rivalries with popular fanbases in the social media age ( lakers, warrior, heat, bron, kobe, kyrie etc ), bunch of chips with most being way before the modern age, racism reputation so they can moralise to justify their hate, Tatum being put in high level convos when he isn’t quite as good as the top 2/3 or as popular as the older generation who he is rightfully above.

All year, we have gone into other teams’ areas and dominated on the court while a sea of green clad fans chanted, “Let’s go, Celtics.” It’s easy to see why other fan bases are rooting against us. They want to see us taken down a few pegs..

Reports from Bill Russell from the 50s really stuck and although things changed since then culturally, some people may see the icon of the team saying there’s racism here will tarnish people’s view forever no matter how long ago it was. There’s also reports from other more recent players saying similar things of the Boston crowd. Unfortunately (even though there will be racism in every fanbase) players seem to experience it a lot to the point where the crowd is notorious for that racism. Whether or not it’s exaggerated it accurate it’s there, people on social media and the media itself like to run with the narrative because it works for them

I’m a New Zealander and in “Super Rugby”, everyone hates the Crusaders purely because of their record, and ability to dismantle YOUR team.
Every fan has had their team beaten by the Crusaders in a crux game at least once.
I hate the Crusaders. The Celtics are of the same ilk, except they’re my team so I relish in it.
Funnily enough when the individual players play for our national team…suddenly I love the same people I hated. I think people like the individuals on our team, especially outside of the Jays.
