Cody Williams

I have already talked about Zach Edey and Kyle Filipowski. Those are the two potential drafts that I have seen the most mentioned from draft scouts. Cody Williams is the 3rd.

Note* All of this is speculation. Nobody truly knows who Presti is going to choose.

Cody's Strengths:

Cody is an athletic 6'8 with both an
offensive and defensive versatile game. He is the younger brother of Jalen Williams (JDub). He averaged 28.1 minutes per game, shooting 55.2 percent from the field, 41.5 percent from three-point range, and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. He also contributed 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 blocks, 0.6 steals, and scored 11.9 points per game. Like his brother he is a capable ball handler and has the ability to penetrate and finish with a floater; he can create his own shot and has the ability to play the PG and facilitate for others. On defense, he can guard positions 1-4 making him a great prospect at the 4 if Daigneault wants Chet to remain at 5. He is not afraid of fighting through screens and has a good understanding and quickness to rotate on the switch, plus he moves his feet very well on defense and recovers quickly. He has good shooting mechanics and can be even better under the tutelage of Chip. Basically he is a taller version of JDub.

Cody's Weakness

At only 180 pounds he is a bit small for a 6'8 and has trouble finishing through contact. His game is mainly drives and mid range jumpers, which makes him predictable, and when he does penetrate, he is not aggressive enough and has trouble drawing fouls. He does not shoot good off the dribble and is not strong rebounder. This makes him inconsistent at times, but all of this can be improved with the Thunder's developmental team. It still does not address the Thunder's biggest weakness: rebounding.

Some people may not like it, but I still think he’s a solid/good prospect and would be overall satisfied if we picked him at 12

    Positives:
    – Elite Finisher/Great Touch ([73.3% at the rim](https://hoop-math.com/Colorado2024.php), better % at the rim than Clingan who is 7’3)
    – Very Efficient (62% TS)
    – Fills the “Check Boxes for Presti (High IQ player that can dribble, pass, shoot)
    – High Potential player (Only 19 on draft night, good athlete thats close to 6’8 with a 7’1 wingspan)

    Improvement Areas:
    – Very Skinny/Isn’t a Great Rebounder (178 lbs, only averaged 3.8 rebounds per game)
    – Limited Self Creation (Okay handle, wasn’t good on OTD jump shots but majority of his attempts at the rim were self created/weren’t assisted)
    – Not a Great Defender yet (was okay defensively but high potential as a defender)
    – Shooting Questions (Shot 41% from 3 but on low 3PA and only shot 71% from FT)
