Kristaps Porzingis’ return, Kyrie Irving’s struggles & more Celtics-Mavs GAME 1 REACTION | Get Up
the stars were out and ready Luca in the building Tatum in the building KP back better than ever Off the Bench honoring Bill Walton with the jerseys and you know what Allan KP spectacular early inside and out look at this going Lefty and the Finish how’s that calf feeling it looks like it’s feeling pretty good Drea knocking down deep shots as well steps right in that’s a 30 foot three-pointer he had a couple of those on the night can’t help but smile we were so happy for Kristof we’re still in the first quarter and it’s Tatum oh look at the oh from porz yeah don’t test him again it feels like he feels great look at this block the chase down effort by KP we call that nasty work that’s nasty work KP porzingis 11 points and two blocks in the first quarter Celtics by 17 then look out Jaylen Brown in traffic D watch this there’s four Defenders that he’s beating here there were so many times where Jaylen Brown looked like the strongest player on the courts the strength and his ability to get into the paint was a game changer to house poor zingis that’s bordering on unfair Boston up 21 and now Drea Moore defense from the Celtics again Jaylen Brown look at the elevation that’s a punch he puts the seat belt on I wish we would have showed that a million times that seat belt how about this traffic Tatum the Celtics a 27o lead next possession it’s porzingis again he would score 20 plus three blocks Off the Bench Boston running away and hiding in the first half third quarter whittling away behind Luca here come the MS yeah we we have a game and that’s what you wanted to see in the NBA Finals would Dallas at least push back Lucas start to get a little magic going he can knock down a 30-footer as well and things got close there’s that look we’re waiting for he had 30 and 10 they would get as close as eight but no closer offensive rebounds and here comes porzingis again I mean kristof’s just sprinting down the lane elevating and finishing he looked so healthy he looked bouncy and the Celtics looked complete on the offensive end how many times did we see them make that extra pass and knock down threes they got it done that wi open three push the lead back to 16 and then it’s brown oh the defense on Kyrie yeah if you don’t know what the seat belt means it means I’m shutting you down I’m locking you up he did that all night up on the offensive end as well 22 points three steals three blocks for jayen brown a spectacular team effort by dominant in game one by the Boston Celtics afterwards let’s start with KP from day one I came here and I said like I’ll do whatever it takes to help this team win right and I think it was um this situation you know it made sense and uh and I didn’t care I didn’t care I knew I could prepare to come off the bench which is something different for me um and that’s what I did and stepped into that role and and embraced it and and uh and had a good game in any given night it could be any of us you know and uh christops had a monster game for us just his um presence shooting the ball and him able to attack those switches and mismatches he uh made him pay every time and that’s what we need going forward in the series christops was big we just had to get this one out the way and we didn’t perform the way we would have wanted to tonight um you know it starts with me just being able to get out there and get us settled one team was clearly ready for the moment in the finals and one team clearly was not ready for the moment in the finals and that’s the the biggest thing that stood out to me immediately where did you see that where did you see particularly in Dallas I mean I saw it immediately when it was offensive play offensive possession by Boston where they got four or five offensive rebounds and they didn’t make a shot but they kept getting up shots and they were the first to the ball all the little things when you think about being in the finals and you focus on things that can help you win teams tend to forget about the little things Boston honed in to the details early and they brought the energy and the effort Wendy what did you see you were there again the building was rocking you were telling me this morning did the Mavs look like a team that had never been there before without question they were definitely uncomfortable early in the game uh the sound when Chris ABS porzingis came out he did not come out initially with the Celtics and obviously everybody wanted to keep an eye on him it was one of the big storylines going into the game he comes out three or four minutes into warm-ups every time they show him on the scoreboard the place is going crazy incredible energy and the Celtics were completely comfortable in it especially porzingis his comfort that situation I think was made possible by his teammates and you think about what he did greeny he’d only come off the bench one game in his career you’re asking him not playing for five weeks stepping into the most rockus environment he’s probably ever seen playing uh an uncomfortable spot coming you know you know in Off the Bench cold and he delivers five or six of the best minutes of basketball of his life absolutely remarkable that he was able to be uplifted and deliver like that and his whole teammates and the crowd fed off of him’s talk about that for a minute we’re going to get to porzingis he was obviously magnificent and that is the overwhelming story from an ex’s and0 standpoint coming out of this game the Mavericks are going to have to figure out something for him but while the Celtics have a lot of postseason experience a lot of it hasn’t been so good and so I didn’t know that it would look like this last night this that part of it took me by surprise well we’ve heard Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown talk about how their experiences and how they didn’t go well and how they’ve learned from those experiences and it’s brought them together and they know what they need to do and what they need to avoid to have success and to watch them come out and just punch the Mavs first second third fourth they had answers for everything the Mavs tried to do and the Mavericks had no answers for everything that the Celtics did on both ends of the floor the Celtics looked comfortable the Mavericks looked uncomfortable and the Mavs at times to me just looked like they were questioning everything they were supposed to do on both ends while the Celtics they had the answers and they got the mismatches they wanted on offense and on defense where the game changed for me and where the Celtics took off watch Luca so he shoots this three and he’s going down the court and he’s he’s looking hobbled just a little bit and he calls for a sub he re reaches his hand up looks at his bench like hey I need a sub and then even here he’s slow getting back on the court watch him again he’s going to put his hand up again talking to his bench like hey get me out of the game I don’t know what it was if he was feeling injured if he wasn’t feeling great whatever the instance was when Luca left the game with about 3 minutes left the M first qu in the first quarter when Luca left the game the Mavs were down six first quarter ended they were down 17 Luca leaving the game early christops was in and he was hot the lead stretched at that point it’s an important factor in this that everyone is going to point to and rightfully so porzingis with that Avalanche and that’s what extended the Boston lead but the reality is during that stretch Luca was on the side as well he he put up big numbers last night his running mate did not that was a tough game one for Kyrie IR absolutely was and those were all the different factors we were looking at going into this game was okay can Luca continue the magic he has been great on the road this Dallas team has been great on the road it’s their first loss in five games on the road in the playoffs so they did not look like themselves at all in this game and you know you we’re all talking about different things you D said it Andrea you said it as well I’m going to take it one step further I think they were rattled they looked rattled and it really started when for zingas came in the game it started with the fact that Luca didn’t have anything going that Kyrie didn’t have anything going Derek Lively looked like he was always talking to the officials frustrated with the fouls that were being called on him they were not getting to rebounds you saw several possessions where where Boston early wasn’t making shots but they were getting extra possessions that was not what you saw in that first quarter the Dallas Mavericks that we have seen throughout this playoffs Jason kid even looked at his team like what are we doing like what is going on his team was tight it was clear think about this from both ends right so on one end of the floor LC if I’m on the Mavs team Luca is not hitting shots you’re looking at Luka and you’re like okay he’s he doesn’t have it going Kyrie’s struggling to dribble the ball at time so you’re looking at the most experienced player on your team and you’re like oh he’s struggling and then christops comes in and you’re like like when he looks amazing so both ends of the floor what you’re expecting to happen on your offensive men with your two superstars is not happening and what you’re expecting to happen on the defensive end Christ Stop’s coming in and maybe starting slow that doesn’t happen either and now you’re like all right wait a minute none of none of this is going how we thought it was going to go you you will hear that in the voice of their coach Jason kit who by the way has by far the most finals experience of anybody involved in this series and and you this is him wired up at halftime talking to his team listen to the things that he’s saying it it does sound like he’s concerned that his team looks tight listen to Jason kid the other part let’s have some fun right we’re acting like we never like this it’s basketball have fun we’re going to win the third quarter and then we build on the third quarter and then we win the fourth quarter all right just understand this is not us go UD what’s that sound like to you when when you hear that you’ve been in a million of those locker rooms including in these the biggest games of everybody’s careers what what did that sound like to you from from Jason kid there but the first thing that was funny was jayk was about to say we acting like we haven’t been here before then he realized he caught himself back nobody has been there before but him no but but him and Kyrie so he had to catch himself and completely change his message but I mean yeah you definitely want to just play basketball yes it’s the finals yes you get tight but often times when you’re in the finals and you get tight you forget to do the little things you forget to just read react and play the game of basketball and like you guys said they were tight everything they did to get to the finals they didn’t do that they didn’t play with offensive you know chemistry defensively they weren’t blocking shots they weren’t guarding the basket like they do Derek Lively Gafford those guys being Rim protectors if you look at the stats in the game Boston actually dominated the shots within 5et from the basket that just lets you know the rim protection the defense was not there last night and that’s what they’ve been able to hang their hat on even against the Clippers you saw the switches where Luca and Kyrie were accepting the matchups defensively they did not do that last night take us through the night for Chris ABS porzingis yeah you know obviously when you are coming back from an injury it’s sort of a common to come off the bench but he just has no experience in doing that and you know the idea that you could miss five weeks of playoffs and be inserted into the highest intensity game of your career and succeed I mean I Was preparing myself uh greeny to come on today and calm everybody down about porzingis if he went one of six and look sluggish instead he was absolutely brilliant not just with the threes which are obviously huge they hit seven of them in the first quarter it was a def mining moment in the game but defensively the Mavericks actually kind of challenged him they I think their game plan was let’s see what Chris porzingis can do I mean Josh Green the Mavericks Reserve player kind of had a moment of you know certifiable Insanity when he tried to like slam dunk from the dotted line and poringa blocked him like I would block my six-year-old and and that was the thing it was poring doing it at both ends absolutely dominant I mean what’s he doing here here um was hunting him he was looking like I don’t know what he was trying to do UD because that guy coming at him well and so that his his his impact was huge UD the defense we’ll get to the offensive part of it in a minute I can run through all of his stats and Dre has got a tape but it was the defense that you noticed from porzingis last night yes the three shot blocks that’s intimidating when you got a guy that blocks one shot I’ve seen Kyrie get to his spot and shoot that pull up a million times I’ve seen him get it over the defensive player of the year and Rudy Gober in the last in the last series I have never seen anybody block that shot Kristoff porzingis blocked that shot last night for the first time now if you’re the Dallas Mavericks and you’re sitting on that sideline and he’s your leader and he’s the guy who you depend on when things go wrong and go left and you see things like that happen that you don’t naturally see once again that makes you even tighter than you already are being in the finals for the first time right here here’s the shot by Kyrie he’s backpedaling shot he’s backpedaling and then quick Rea what did we talk about yesterday in the show quick reaction change of speed change of pace all of those things going backwards and then stopping on a dime that’s hard on your calf that’s hard on the back of your legs and then going up to block the shot I know there’s a height difference but you’re right UD that play was really impressive he looked so much better the Mavericks did not have an answer and the Celtics did such a great job at getting the matchups that they wanted and getting the mismatches that they wanted look at this height difference this is almost a foot difference christops porzingis and the spacing of the Celtics but the height difference here he can literally just turn that high release he can score over the defense again this is a mismatch Josh Green is significantly shorter than christops porzingis look at the spacing all the other Celtics are on the opposite side of the floor like go ahead christops you cook same thing here against Derrick Jones Jr not as much of a height difference but still that’s significant 8 in than Derrick Jones Jr he’s trying to be aggressive he’s trying to make Chris stops uncomfortable and Chris stops is unbothered how many times did chrisop porzingis look completely unbothered by the first line of defense it’s like he didn’t even see them because he probably didn’t his head is over theirs yeah you know what I was thinking about this thing with porzingis and you again Allen covers the Knicks for those who don’t know it and so you saw him when he came into the league and took it by storm you know they were honoring Bill Walton last night Bill Walton who had a brilliant start to his career then was completely sidetracked by injury then came back as a sixth man on the 1986 Celtics who many people believe is the greatest team of all time certainly in the team photo of greatest teams of all time now I’m not trying to compare this team and I’m not suggesting Chris ABS porzingis is Bill Walton but he could have that kind of impact if he really is healthy because he’s that kind of good yeah and the passing aspect that Walton BRS is obviously a different dimension but the shooting the scoring and this kind of stuff obviously is certainly there the size Off the Bench too is such a big deal in this series because we’re not showing we’re showing shop blocking yeah we’re not what he did to take the lob threat away I mean the Mavs are just dominant lob team in the NBA it it’s a big part of their offense it’s a big part of what Luca does getting assist and there were a lot of plays where he eliminated any opportunity for a lob just for his presence his size alone so I’m going to be curious to see if they continue to do this bringing him in off the bench because that game the first four or five minutes of the game was very sloppy it was not a great start he came in and it almost felt like the true Turning Point even though it was so early you you D you be my coach are you bringing KP Off the Bench again Sunday night in game two hell yeah hell yeah if it ain’t broke don’t fix it if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and and listen you got to give Joe moula credit because everybody’s talking about what Kristoff spinga is gonna do everybody’s wondering is he healthy is he gonna be 100% what can he do defensively what can he do offensively and Joe say hey we’re gonna bring him off the bench let him take a breath let him watch let him ease his way into the game even though he came in all guns blazing let him ease his way into the game and not put that pressure on him I think that took a little bit of a lift a little bit of a weight off Kristoff’s shoulders and and was able to go into the game and just let the game come to him also too we all talked about it Derek Lively his first Finals there was a significant difference in that matchup right Derrick livley struggled defending christops porzingis even leaning on him trying to be overly physical with christops and then Kristof ends up Blowing by him a couple of times basketball is a chess game there are literally times where when one player Subs in the coach puts in the matchup that they want against that player so bringing Chris UPS in Off the Bench you’re more likely to get that match up and again challenge drik Lively on the defense by the way Horford as a started defensively fantastic I mean they could not score against him his numbers defensively were really good so you’re not losing anything by sticking with that rotation in the meantime Cindy let’s put up full screen number two if we can because Luca donic who as everyone said yesterday and for the last week is the best player in these finals finished this game with one assist that is the fewest in a playoff game in his career fewest in any game of his career in which he played at least 35 minutes and Wendy you were talking a lot in the buildup to this about the the way this team shot off of his passes I think they were shooting 57% off of his passes in these playoffs what did you see last night as far as that part of the Boston defense yeah I’m more interested in that six number because getting that number there just shows you how effective Boston’s game plan defensively they wanted to just stick to the other players they were not going to double team Luca they were not going to help on him if they could have avoid it and they were going to switch everything one of the side benefits of bringing porzingis Off the Bench they had Al Horford in the starting lineup and so when they would run screens they were okay with putting Al Horford in front of Luca now look Luca’s going to win that match up most of the time but they’re not afraid of it they’re not afraid of any of the five Defenders that they have out there that enables them to stick to the other players more and there’s just not shots the Mavericks thrive on Corner three-point shots and the and lob dunks no lob dunks they they had two Corner threes the whole game they weren’t the Luca teammates weren’t open great defensive execution by the Celtics UD put it into into simple language people can understand what was the strategy by the Celtics defensively against Luca specifically last night and why did it work so well well I love to start Al Uncle Al moving him moving his feet sliding them puppies he was able to switch the pick and rolls early get him in the space but they was able to shrink the floor shrink the elbows take the triggers away take Derek Jones Jr away take Lively away now you make Luca just go one-on-one and try to beat those guys and take tough shots now you talk about bringing it up the floor you pressing him just a little bit with Jaylen Brown and work his handles but you fatigue him you make him uncomfortable which Minnesota never made him uncomfortable in the last in the last series now you put two to the ball so he saw all different kind of coverages from all different kind of guys and by the way now you bring in KP and now you get into the drop coverage and now he’s trying to get those lobs but now KP is so long and so tall in front of the basket and I also watched Boston peel off on some of those lobs and I watch the guard contest the big at The Rim on some of those lobs so obviously they’ve been watching film and they’ve been in the lab for those nine days and not just sitting at home eating chicken [Music]

Basically this game confirmed how irrelevant Anthony Edwards is in my opinion. Got wrecked by the Mavs and the Mavs are now getting wrecked. Seems like the West might be the irrelevant confrence. I don't see any Championships in his future.
Good work KP keep it up and good luck 💯🤞❤
Dear Mavs fans, you can have your MVP caliber high scoring All-NBA cry baby, we'll take our balanced team with good playmakers and an 18th banner. Enjoy talking all summer about how Luka is the best player in the world. We'll be talking about getting a 19th championship next year.
Mavs in 7 and I'm a Celtics fan but I don't trust the Celtics bench.
Let's not forget all the bozos on ESPN picked the Mavs bc of the expert analysis "best player in the series always wins"💀
“They haven’t been battle tested”
Holding doncic to 1 assist is crazy mavs had 9 assist all game boston might sweep ngl
God we need zingy all finals 🙏🏾🫶🏾
Someone said “KP ain’t suppose to play like Wemby” at this gathering i was at for game 1. Y’all must’ve forgot he really was …. 😂😂😂😂 UNICORN
"The Seatbelt" is one of the lamest attampts at basketball slang I ever heard Baby seat is right there but still both are about safety so do better
They got within 8 strictly off of Luka. Kyrie didn’t show up.
Boston is now healthy. It’s a whole different story with Porziņģis out there.
It means “strapped”
Series aint over cause Luka and Kyrie are capable of stealing games themselves but Cs looking real good and matchup defensively like a glove
UD’s face looks like it hurts when he is trying to speak about the Celtics dominance while he is trying to smile. UD picked Dallas over the Celtics. Andraya is all in the Celtics tip, and now she has to speak to the Celtic’s greatness, when she said how much Dallas is better than the Celtics. Too many false narratives from these two analyst. SMH.
The woman makes this take unlistenable
All the Mavs fans taking a sick day from commenting I see…
If this boy stays healthy for 3 more games, it's over.
Bad game shot wasn't falling. Game 2 will be different
It's 1 game calm down
ESPN already trotting out the "Luka is injured" excuse. Embarrassing.
KP turned into KG
KP is finals MVP!!
Luka needs to start speaking Slovenian!
