should check it out and become a better NX fan by Reading Writing and buying writing Alex I’m recruiting some people for you anyways uh let’s get into it uh continuing our mailbag from last week uh first question comes from Steve Thomas who has asked really good questions so shout out to you Steve at dark Steve 590 he wants to know I don’t think we need a trade to fix the starting lineup but I would like to hear thoughts suggestions about bringing a younger Wing to backup start when OG inevitably gets hurt during the season Alex I want to caveat this we decided um partially for the sake of content partially because even if it’s unlikely could be on the table to expand the realm of this question include like all right what if the Doomsday scenario doesn’t sign what about just the bad scenario that he could potentially get hurt um and like if the Knicks actually have room to bring it anyone if they um decide to pay ogan and Obi yeah I mean I guess that’s the big thing right like with the with how Steve worded it with someone younger to back up or start when OG inevitably gets hurt I mean he’s pretty young by himself like he’s gonna be what 27 this year so I mean he’s just like comfortably entering his prime um I I feel like that narrows it down to roughly like the draft because otherwise I don’t know I don’t know what you know where you would find the diamond in the rough that would potentially uh be the guy that could step in there I mean I just did the the shows within No Ceilings guys and I really liked uh the sound of like Ryan Dunn for example um I know a lot of people in the YouTube comments were like no he didn’t shoot good you know whatever and like maybe that’s true but if you just want the defensive impact of an OG on an Obi he might be able to get there within you know within the year or whatever like he seems like he’s in inarguably like the best defender in this draft and just is being held back by the fact that because he played at Virginia you know they don’t really highlight people on offense that much he only shot 20% from three uh at Virginia this past year but I mean at least when I was listening to Cory and Albert talk about and it sounds a little bit like he’s he’s got something to work with there like and I have to go watch him a little more myself but I mean I guess that would be option one you know whether it’s done whether it’s someone else I feel like I feel like Leon Rose and Company are plugged in enough to know like hey are we just being worked for some extra money or is OG like legitimately going to hit free agency hard this year and I feel like that would probably inform their decisions a bit on what they do with the draft picks and I I think if you have an inkling that OG is going to be out uh then you probably say let’s use all three of these draft picks and you know if we’re going to make any other deals or whatever use the picks that we have in the future but let’s use these three picks that we have this year and try to find someone that can contribute right away this year which the Knicks honestly have been pretty good at like they’ve drafted Emanuel quickley who contributed as a rookie Obby toppen who contributed as a rookie Quinton Grimes who contributed as a rookie dusc bride who took a little bit to come on but is contributing now like Jericho Sims even contributed a bit as a rookie so they have a good track record with this sort of thing so I would say the draft would be the way to go especially considering there’s a number of wings back there maybe you you know we’ve seen like good Championship level teams like the nuggets for example you know use those late first round picks and have rookies come in that can swing a playoff series for you or swing a you know a potential pursuit of a title and losing on anobi would immediately set the Knicks quite a bit back in that Pursuit but you know maybe you could have someone that could at least keep them somewhat level um you know especially considering you have a Josh Hart on the roster still and a Dante Devan chenzo and a duck bride and all these established faces you would just need someone to kind of step in there and play about 20 minutes a game so I I would say the draft probably would be the way I would go yeah I think I think I don’t know I think if I think if you if OG an anobi signed with another team I think you’re you’re put into a first of all it it’s a catastrophe right to the end degree this is a guy who’s represented by your general manager’s son who um like you you gave up everything for BEC not everything for but you gave up like Emanuel quickley who like could very well be an All-Star in the next couple years you gave him RJ Barrett who looks dramatically better at least offensively like outside the context of the Knicks like those are those are two really valuable pieces and you did it because OJ anobi as we saw turned the Knicks from a a good team that we were sort of Heming and Hauling like all right are they even going to get out of the first round this year to like if they were healthy like I I’m gonna keep saying this till till the cows come home like a legitimate NBA title Contender they played like a 65 plus win team with and anobi on the floor so you lose that guy like there you you cannot replace him and you certainly can’t replace like the assets that went out the door to go get him but I I think you might almost have to double down and say like all right like what is it gonna take to get mckel Bridges like Paul George is is is much older not as ideal of a fit for the next time line and not the defender that anobi is but um like brings you more offensively like like what is it GNA take to go get him and like probably vastly overpay him like it puts the Knicks in a horrific position but if you’re asking like what would it take to replace him like and I know this isn’t what you’re saying but like I’m just going to make the point they’re not going to find that guy in the draft and like and and the Knicks know that like we we all know like like that guy’s not there waiting the draft and like I think even with everyone they get back like their their ceiling drops off and and their floor even drops off a decent amount with no OG an anobi but to actually answer Steve’s question which like he’s not considering This Disaster scenario though I should I should note before we move on like there there was a a report out there by Jake fiser of Yahoo that like maybe like we shouldn’t be so certain he’s coming back like I I’ll just read the quote out um anob is widely expected decline his 19.9 million player option for next season um of course um while League Personnel are of the mind that Pascal seaka will certainly be stting with Indiana there was word circling among team officials that last week’s NBA draft combined that anobi situation with the Knicks is not as cut as dried perhaps those signals to rival teams will only help anobi elicit a larger dollar figure from the Knicks but various teams left Chicago with the belief that he could reach unrestricted free agency and considered deals from other franchises in addition to New York sources said um again given the whole like agent is the son of the general manager thing and the Nicks like traded for him like when they did for what they did I would be I would be stunned if he went anywhere out the fact that he went out there on like a busted up hamstring and like tried to gut out like however many minutes he could for the Knicks in game seven tells me that like he’s probably coming back I don’t know Alex like before we we go further with this like like what what what are your thoughts on that because like I just I I would be shocked if he left I guess is the only way to say it I don’t think he’s leaving I honestly considering the Family Ties like the literal Family Ties and everything I wouldn’t be surprised if even Leon is like yeah you know yeah son go ahead tell them whatever I don’t care like yeah create a market if you want you know we this might honestly even be the Knicks trying to get ahead of I mean granted it can’t be tampering this time around because their own free agent but just trying to get ahead of this whole idea a that like there’s some weird Illuminati you know whatever that’s like like there there there is but we don’t want people to know right we don’t want people to know about you know what I mean like I just think I think after after the whole Brunson Saga where it was like oh they tampered you know because he signed on the team that employs his dad and like his his like Uncle Leon basically um you know I I don’t know I think it’s all posturing I think he’s coming back I don’t think the Knicks even make the trade for him if they don’t know he’s coming back so how could you yeah I think he’s coming back and maybe you know maybe this is Leon saying hey you know whatever like we’re still going to give you top dollar you know whatever it is that that you think is your what you’re worth you know to come back to this team and hopefully compete for a championship next year and I’m sure that means something to OG too especially considering his uh his history where he wasn’t able to compete the one year that he was on a championship team um so I’m sure it would mean something to him to play a big role in a team that would actually be going for that so yeah I think he’s coming back I I I’ve got it at such a high I’ve got it higher than Isaiah hardenstein to be completely honest because I just don’t the Nick will pay him whatever it takes to keep him I think at this point no I don’t think it’s close I mean we we just talked about we had hardenstein like 50% I would have I think my number for OG would be 80 85 I think 85 is like maybe maybe that like if he signs somewhere else like I I would look stupid I would feel stupid for saying that honestly but like to your point like I just cannot imagine Leon Rose making that deal without his son being like yeah he wants to be in New York and by all accounts by everything we saw by everything we know like like his his production and his experience exceeded his expectations of what it was going to be like here so that combined like I would be shocked real quick to answer the actual question since you did I’ll answer it too um like how do they replace him or not sorry if he gets hurt what do they do um it can only be a draft pick because they just do not have money for anyone unless unless unless they they lose Isaiah hardenstein and then maybe you could dip a toe in the Bruce Brown Market but I think even then because of the lack of bird rights like the Knicks would still be pretty much at the cap so I I don’t I don’t think there’s room to do anything but draft a guy bobi Clinton is the name I’ll throw out he’s 610 the ringer has him as having shades of Trevor Reza Nick patum and that he’s 610 plus Defender could certainly use a little bit more like lateral quickness but makes up for it with great size and and has the makings of a pretty good shooter pretty good passer I know that’s an archetype that doesn’t work out super well like like super sized Euro bigs has like kind of had mixed results outside of um or Euro wings that is outside of Giannis like a decade ago but I like the idea of getting someone just super big even if they’re raw just because I think the Knicks can use guys with more like freakish attributes whether that’s length or athleticism to me that’s the direction I would ultimately go um next unlock on Nicks we’re gonna talk about another Euro one with a little bit less freakish Dimensions that is rakab bidas and what his role could be on the Knicks next year so that is next on lockdown Knicks but first we got to let you know about our good friends over at game time and Game Time makes getting NBA Finals tickets even faster and easier prices on the game time app actually go down the closer it gets to tip off and with killer last minute deals all in prices views from you seat and their lowest price guarantee game time takes the guesswork out of buying NBA tickets but I tell you what maybe you don’t feel like going and seeing a Maverick Celtics final game because why would you want to pay finals prices to go see that maybe you’re like me and you have absolutely nothing to root for at the moment because you root for the Mets and they stink but let me tell you guys if you don’t go to some live Mets games you can go for like almost for free now especially if you use the game time app like couple bucks gets you in the door go eat some of the food have a good meal enjoy the summer weather it’s lovely it is a really nice Stadium even if the baseball isn’t so good so go take in a Mets game I think they have like a lobster Burger this year like a burger with like lobster on top little surf and turf action go check that out you know I I think that’s what I would use the game time app for and probably will be in the next couple weeks because I’m kind of itching to go go eat some good food and watch the Mets lose anyway download the game time app create an account and use code locked on NBA for $20 off your first purchase terms apply again create an account and redeem code L CK d o n MBA for $20 off your first purchase download game time today last minute tickets lowest price guaranteed all right Gavin we’re back in to keep going through mailbag questions and we got a we got a few in a row here to end the show from one of our buddies on Twitter you challenged him to ask as many questions as he could and boy he had a lot of questions for us so but this comes from Jordan bobbob Jordan on Twitter I lumped these two questions together because they’re very similar um but you know in the same vein so it we’ll tackle both at once what are your thoughts and your opinion about rokus jokas coming over to the NBA and will you watch him in either the Olympics or summer league uh before he comes over and then secondly if if Rus jobus comes into the NBA and gets actual rotation minutes from the start and does reasonably well in them how would you feel about it so I’ll just give my thought to the second part of that question first I’ll feel great because honestly I do think that what rokus brings is exactly what the Knicks need right now which I think is a slightly more consistent secondary ball handler behind Jaylen Brunson Off the Bench than Duce McBride and I love du McBride uh you know and I think he’s honestly blown me out of the water a bit with how much he just progressed over the course of the Season handling the ball like I thought by the time the playoffs hit when he had to spend like 10 minutes out there with no Jaylen Brunson he actually did pretty solid but it would be much better to have someone who does a little more like what Jaylen Brunson does out there um and who can break down a defense a little more reliably uh who can kind of operate with the ball in his hands create for others and all that and I think Rus does that if he can come over and do that immediately that would be freaking awesome I like I don’t think there’s any ifss or buts about it he’s that would be hugely valuable for the Knicks on a rookie contract to get him over and have him do that yeah um I I would be really excited I I I think they need someone I I I just don’t think Deuce is is a point guard at the end of the day like you you just see it in high pressure high leverage situations like he had he had his moments in the playoffs but for the most part he faltered and and maybe that’s something that can improve on the margins and get better at like I I think Rog is someone who can come in and like since he was a teenager frankly like he he has been a pro since 2018 that that is six seasons he is still just 23 years old like he’s shown it and to me the most encouraging stretch of basketball we’ve ever seen from him was in FIFA last year where like unlike playing for Barcelona like he got substantial minutes like like playing for Lithuania played 25 minutes a game put up 12 points 5.3 assists which is like when you consider for his career even including those numbers he put He only averaged 2.8 per game that’s really impressive the three-point shooting has always been on very low volume like he’s never as a pro put up more than two threes a game he put up about two and a half playing for Lithuania shot 57% from three I don’t think that’s really who he is as a shooter Alex like for a for his career his free throw num is only at 75% um but if he could up the three-point volume a little bit even if it dips below 40% like I think he’s someone who come in give you 15 minutes right away and and as long as the Knicks have a role for him and the the part that gets a little tricky there is like if everyone’s healthy like are you pushing Deuce back out of the rotation which is is hard to stomach given how exceptional that guy was for us and how many big moments that guy had for us so that’s the part that’s it’s a little uneasy and like maybe there’s a world where they tried to trade deuce and that would that would suck given the contract he’s on he has a lot of value because the contract that he’s on but um I would I would obviously be EST static if he if he came over and replicated that and I I think because of his High Level Pro experience um playing the best league in the world that’s not the NBA in Euroleague um I think he’s ready to come over give the Knick Some solid minutes to make that decision to transition to the NBA yeah I’m with you there I mean I think uh I I think also too I don’t know if they have to be mutually exclusive like him and Deuce like as far as playing time goes I think that they could just kind of become the new like we we never got to see it as much as we probably wanted to but like Duce and i q did pretty well together uh when they played and you know had actually like nonsensically high uh uh plus minuses and you know lineup data and all that stuff when they played together so I don’t see any reason why those two couldn’t play together Off the Bench especially and you know those two plus Josh Hart you know plus Mitchell Robinson potentially if that’s who ends up sticking and you know then kind of just rotating in like whoever’s not getting arrest of Randall or anobi or you know whatever and still rock in a ninan rotation like I that sounds like a pretty solid bench lineup to me that sounds like a bench lineup that could possibly you know compete with some starters uh that some of the the lower teams in the NBA are throwing out so um yeah I I think that he could totally translate really well um I guess the last thing that Jordan had asked here is will we watch him in either the Olympics or summer league if he comes over the answer is a th% I have woken up to watch Olympic Games for far less than a guy who is potentially coming over to the Knicks and I think by the time the Olympics are being played we would probably know for sure if he’s coming or not so if we know for sure that he’s coming to the Knicks and then he’s gonna play in the Olympics heck yeah dude I’m gonna I’m gonna set some alarms I’ll I’ll get up early if I have to to watch that because I’ve I’ve done like I said I’ve done it for Less I I I was getting up to watch uh Frank Nina games playing for France at like 6:00 am you know in uh New York time so like yeah dude I I’ll definitely watch him all the way it it hurts my heart that you threw it for Less in there like that was that was our guy for a while Frank Nina but he was signed already like we knew who Frank was already you know what I mean it wasn’t for like like scouting you know what I mean like it was just for support so this would be like for scouting in both okay that’s fair enough and former Nick mandas kinus you know I think jitis yeah someone there was a there was a tweet I gotta find it after this episode someone put out a seven minute uh mandag dangas kingis was different video of just like a clips of him hitting like floaters and threes on the Knicks which is pretty cool and he you know what he he kicked the US’s butt uh this past summer in in FBA so that’ll be fun um you know it’s cool one of my this isn’t aide but one of my best friends who’s been on this podcast margus baral is going to be I believe at the US Lithuania game for the Olympics so I will ask him for an in-person report um and and I will I will I will talk back of course we will watch it too even if he’s not coming over we’ll probably talk about that game in depth but yeah I I’m super excited I’m ready for rogus Alex we we’ve been like kind of been being edged for like half a decade now on him almost like let’s let’s get it over with let’s let’s bring him over let’s make it happen all right uh we’re gonna wrap up talk about Julius Randall Jaylen Brunson made a jump after a jump does Julius Randle have one more leap in him as he enters his 30s we’ll talk about that next on lockd on Knicks but first we want to tell you about our to $100 prize picks pick more pick less it’s that easy all right third and final question here um in this mailbag episode comes from you guess it our our our mailbag MVP for now and forever Jordan bub ATB Jordan he wants to know do you think Julius Randall can reach an even higher level like Jaylen Brunson has shown so Alex initially like I saw this question I was like ah probably not like he’s he’s been pretty good to to extraordinarily good all-nba two of the last three seasons he was healthy honestly probably would have made it three of the last four seasons if he hadn’t gotten hurt this year which is like a top 15 player in the league on paper now like that playoff production hasn’t translated and and to me like if we talk about him an even higher level it’s like can you be 80% of who you are in the regular season in the playoffs because that would be a dramatically higher level but I think what Jordan’s getting at like is there like a higher Apex in the regular season and does that in turn translate into a dramatically better playoff performance yeah I kind of feel like maybe the answer here comes down to three-point shooting I think that we’ve kind of seen what Julius I mean other than like the obvious of like I guess like if he could shoot better from the free throw line that would be cool like I don’t know if he could hit like 85% of his free throws instead of 76 to 78% that would be sick you know that’s kind of a I think a goal for every Nick this off season after some of the free throw Foles that we saw uh in the playoffs and otherwise is just shoot lots of free throws um but other than that like I think it’s the three-point shooting you know I think the ideal thing that you would hope that Randle could achieve would be to combine the 40% that he shot from three in 2020 to 21 with the large volume that he shot um two seasons ago now uh it feels weird saying that that was was two seasons in that last season but in 2022 to 23 when he shot 8.3 attempts per game he hit 34% uh during that season and then in 2020 to 21 he shot 41% on five and a half attempts now if you look at his total career the the covid season the 2020 to 21 feels like the huge outlier there um but even if he split the difference you know got to I mean he shot like 31% from three this year now granted that number was steadily On The Rise and probably if he kept going the way he was he would have shot about 34% for the Year by the end of the year he was just abysmal from three to start this year um but you know if if you split the difference and say okay now he can shoot eight threes per game but make 38% of them that probably takes them to another level I mean especially if they’re still very very much self-created and you know that sort of thing and he’s still doing all the other stuff just as well then I think that’s sort of your answer to me at least of how Julius Randle could take another leap because quite frankly everything else is really good I mean the the you know finishing around the rim is good he you know he’s played a lot more vertical the last couple years I think as far as being aggressive driving to The Rim finishing you know with dunks more often when the situation calls for it and you know also just using his body more to create space and not trying so hard to just like draw a foul but actually to finish plays and um you know the mid-range game is kind of always there if you ever need to call on it it’s like his his Old Reliable you know the the SpongeBob net he just pops it open every once in a while needs it um and then you know the rebounding is great the defense you know I don’t know how much he can improve there but the one-on-one defense is always impressive when you need to call on it team defense could always use a little work but you know it’s it’s stuff you live with and the rebounding is just fantastic so um yeah I don’t know I me it’s that’s pretty much all I come down to otherwise it’s like what more do you want the guy’s made two all NBAs and three Allstars in the last four seasons he’s doing pretty good for himself yeah it’s just it’s it’s playoff it’s playoff performance for me pretty much I I’m with you that if he could shoot honestly for me it’s it’s just the it’s the 22 23 shooting period like I think I just think that and this is obviously what you’re getting at like that is that is what is realistic for him like in the best case scenario um and and last year it seemed like he made a conscious decision to be like like I am a 6′ n 260 ball of pure athleticism and fury like let me just punish my opponent every single night using that and like I’m I’m okay with like if that’s who he is at the end of the day as a scorer that’s fine like and he’s still gonna always have some gravity just because like if you’re playing off him and you’re giving him a lane to drive to the rim like good luck once he gets momentum like it’s a little bit Yannis where it’s like are you really want to play off that dude you re really want to let him get ahead of steam like have fun with that um but a little bit better shooting would obviously be nice and then I think it just sort of tinkering with like with with his playmaking and how he passes and I I’ve said this a bunch of times but I I think we saw the best ever stretch of passing from him in his career the the second half of this year or the second half of his run this year like post and ex getting an anobi where he was like he was a quick ball mover and it wasn’t all about like like all right let me let me draw three so I can throw a no look pass over my head hoping Reggie Bullock is in the opposite corner it was a little bit more of like I got it I have a good shot the guy next to me is a great great shot I’m going to make the simple read like if he can just keep leaning into that keep leaning into Euro jul Julius as I like to call it um I I think he’s gonna be awesome and you can’t ask for much more and then again just that it it all translates to the playoffs so um you know what I’m I’m I’m talking myself into it Alex I’m I’m I’m really really excited to see that guy play basketball again can’t wait till he’s back I want to see him kick butt in the playoffs because we we we’ve been through a journey with him and he he deserves it so I know I know that’s not what Jordan bub was asking but if this is if this is me getting turned into a Julius Randall Advocate I’ll I’ll happily be a Julius Randall Advocate let’s let’s get him right let’s uh let’s see him kick some butt for the New York Knicks um next time we’ll be kicking some butt answering some more mailback questions maybe some more draft guests um or if any breaking news comes up we will certainly be your home for that uh he’s Alex I’m Gavin we will talk to you very very soon on lockon Nicks [Music] [Music]
Alex and Gavin continue answering your offseason mailbag questions including: How can the Knicks get a backup plan in case OG Anunoby misses time due to injury or leaves in free agency? What do the guys expect from Rokas Jokubaitis if he comes to the Knicks? And is Julius Randle primed for another leap?

Yes regardless if we sign him again or not! He's injury prone there is not getting away from this fact!! He has only played 50 games a season for the last few years, when he is healthy and playing he is magic, but what if he misses playoffs again with injury and not having a like for like replacement is the reason we can't progress, this is why I would like bridges.
Or investment in proven healthy back up for him! Or we trade him for an upgrade on him! More than happy for him to stay he's great but acquiring players with proven injury records is bad business and I mean we have Mitch who's forever Injured same with randle he has issues with injury.
Can't constantly be playing what if, or if they were healthy we had that excuse this year! Can't use it every year and become a team of what could have been if we where healthy.
Totally agree with the last statement he is injury prone. im not ready for another. What if season if we had this player healthy the season or game would be different? It's going to get old with inpatient Knick fans.
We are on the cusp of a championship team, we will just be the what ifs,if we dont look at bolstering the sqaud with talent and durability its going to be for nothing use summer for sensible moves. If we have core pieces thag are going to be in and out of the lineup we at least need durable reliable quality back ups. Or do better business giving up less for more. I also do not agree with getting older guys. This build needs to be sustained over at least 4/5 years. Forger star players jalen is our star julius is our star give them the guys to take pressure off them also we need to maybe create a few stars through development. Like we could easily move up the draft with a package and in the summer savy trades.
Hey Gavin, what happened to your hand?
What about adding Taurean Prince?
