Reacting To Bleacher Report’s Trade Sending Tim Hardaway Jr. To The Detroit Pistons?
hey guys what is going on Anthony here with pistons talk hope you guys are having a great weekend so far what I wanted to do in today’s video was react to this bleach report article and it says one trade idea for every NBA team not in the 2024 NBA Finals we’re going to go to the Detroit Pistons section of this article and react to the trade that they had the Detroit Pistons uh making with the Dallas Mavericks so let’s get straight into it all right so the trade between the Pistons and the Mavericks would be this it’s going to be Tim Hardway Jr obviously because he is in this picture and the trade Bleacher Report has so let’s let’s kind of break this down the Pistons would get Tim Hardway Jr the number 58th pick in this upcoming draft in 2024 the Toronto Raptors 2025 second round pick in next year’s draft Miami’s 2028 second round pick and the Mavs would get the Pistons second round pick that they got from the boan bogdanovich and Alex Burks trade so that’s the trade at it surface and we’ll react to What Bleacher Report has to say in a little bit let’s react to this this trade right so the Pistons would be absorbing Tim hardaway’s contract in exchange you would get a second round pick a very late second round pick from the Mavericks that belongs to Boston you would get a second round pick in next year’s draft from the Toronto Raptors and you would get a Miami Heat second round pick in four years in 2028 and you only have to give them a second round pick I think if you look at it you’re getting a player that can help the Pistons he could arguably be in the starting lineup next to Kate Cunningham or come off the bench and you’re getting three second round picks to take on his contract I think for value this is kind of lopsided in terms for the Detroit Pistons um I think this would be a very lopsided trade if you’re a Pistons fan if you’re a Mavs fan I don’t know I don’t really know how Mavs fans feel about Tim Hardaway Jr I I have some Mavs followers and you know they’re they’re kind of wishy-washy on him obviously he’s he’s a streaky shooter I think that’s that has to be stated he’s not a consistent knockdown shooter but when he’s hot um he can hit some of the most craziest shots uh you’ll ever see I I remember going to a Pistons Mavs game and he just went berserk I think he had like 30 or 40 points he he just could not miss a three but like I said when he’s hot he’s hot like it’s it’s insane so Bleacher Reports reasoning why they believe a Tim Hardaway to the Detroit Pistons trade could work I think is very rational you it makes a lot of sense we’re going to dissect the first couple sentences in their article so they’re talking about absorbing the final year in $16.2 million of hardaway’s contract won’t excite Pistons fans in a vacuum and I agree with that I think if the Pistons traded for Tim Hardway JR this summer a lot of you guys would be very underwhelmed probably upset mad like why are we using our cap space I I I could I could read the comments in my head right now why are we going after this bum because I know how some business fans they want those Stars players they want to get into the playoffs they’re sick of losing I get it but um in this situation you’re taking on a contract that’s going to expire and you’re getting draft picks to take on the contract which I think is good asset management if you’re the Detroit Pistons now the second part of this article mentions free agency and trade targets which we can get into and I think Bleacher Report makes a very good case using assar Thompson Jade Ivy jayen Duran as like a tra Target to get a quote unquote bigger fish right like I’ll just use a a guy for example like Lori marinan right I I think it would be a really good fit but the amount of assets that you would probably have to give Utah to get him right now just to quote unquote get a better roster may come back to bite you in the butt and I think that’s what Bleacher Report is trying to say like taking on a Tim Hardaway Jr isn’t really a a bad deal if you look at it at the surface so the next part of the article we’re going to react and dissect it so they go on to say Detroit needs shooting anyways Hardway is streaky and has fallen out of the Dallas Mavericks playoff rotation but he still checks the floor spacing box particularly relative to what the Pistons have in place so let’s kind of break this down the Pistons need shooting that is not a secret I I think we all understand that I mean God forbid we had a starting lineup of Killian a Isaiah livers Kade Cunningham Jaylen Duran and Isaiah Stewart just terrible floor spacing this year I’m surprised we even cracked 100 points I really am but bleach report is 100% right the Pistons need shooting the next part the d uh the Dallas Mavericks playoff rotation I think a lot of fans are really going to look at Tim Hardway Jr not getting that many minutes in the NBA finals and saying why would we want a guy that can’t even crack the rotation for the Mavericks in the NBA Finals he’s he’s not a guy that’s going to really move the needle right you guys we won 14 games last year you can’t be so picky in particular of who’s going to move the needle if Tim hard you trade for Tim Hardaway Jr and you go from 14 wins to 26 wins that is progress you guys you you just can’t be so picky with players you want to go after I don’t want that that guy he’s not a needle mover like what the does that even mean like you want to get better right you want to get better Tim Hardway Jr would help the Detroit Pistons offense he would help floor spacing he would ha help Kate Cunningham not saying that you know he’s going to you know save this franchise and you know get this team out of just the hole that they’ve been in but to sit there and say he wouldn’t be a good fit this would be Joe Harris 2.0 I just disagree with it I I just do I just see some comments on Twitter right now about it I’m like I I I just don’t understand fans like I think it’s a good trade it’s a good value it’s only one year of a $60 million contract and you get three second round picks but um I just see those comments right now I just Pistons fan sometimes man like I I I don’t know man like I love you guys but we have a lot of disagreements so the next part I apologize for all the F bombs and I try not to sort but I apologize for that uh go on to say getting uh getting him a couple could be seconds is a rational use of cap space for an organization that has yet to really chart a long-term course so another part of the article so I think the one thing in Troy Weaver’s tenure that he didn’t really do was Asset Management he didn’t really um get the most what he could in trades and I think with this you’re giving up a second you’re taking on a a contract for a year and you’re getting more Assets in return um I think this would be a very underrated move if you were the Pistons now they do go on to talk about the Dallas Mavericks and why Dallas would do this uh they say Dallas shouldn’t need much convincing to sign off on this deal it might hesitate at forking over two seconds but completely looping off hardaway’s salary ensures the team will have the full non taxpayer midlevel exception at its disposal so the the Mavericks they’re not in like cap space hell like we did a video I think this week with Carl Anthony tal they’re not that bad but they’re they have you know Hefty contracts so getting rid of a guy that makes 16 million and you’re not really paying him a whole lot a team like Detroit could use his shooting they could use the floor spacing um it would help Kate Cunningham and Company it would it would help whoever the coach is going to be we still don’t know if that’s going to be Monty Williams whatever but I think when I look at this trade I think it’s a under the radar trade that the Pistons could possibly make I don’t hate it I think it’s a a fair trade I know some people just don’t like Tim Hardway Jr and I understand that he is a streaky shooter he’s not going to come in here and you know shoot like 45% from three or anything like that but it’s a 15 Point per game score that can space the floor uh not clog the lanes let me know what you guys think of this trade would you make a trade like this if it was on the table do you agree with Bleacher Report that this could be just kind of a smart Asset Management what uh they said using your cap space wisely do you agree with them on that I’ll talk to you guys down below in the comment section uh like always hope you guys are staying safe take care and I’ll see you guys tomorrow on the podcast have a good night peace [Music] m [Music]

It wouldn’t hurt. 26 wins would be great. Piston fans are not realistic. You can’t go from 14 wins to the championship in one year. Not possible
Three good things… Assets, assets and assets. We're bereft of them. Hardaway can create off the dribble, manufacturing floor spacing, shooting be darned. Would come here motivated. Decent defender. Push the younger talent. Veteran. One year contract then off the books. Worst case scenario, flip him at the trade deadline. When you are on the bottom of the barrel the only thing you can do is look up…
Only thing I would say about this deal is that it wouldn't be the first choic0p
Pull the trigger. We might need to be sin eaters for a couple years just to hoard assets. Put me on the okc rebuild track
I like the move 😊
Yay two second round picks in a weak ass draft
so we would have around 45m left, so instead of two potential impact player we would get only one this year, but a bunch of 2nd round picks for future trades. It worth it depending on who they wanted to get in FA.
Also Utah isn't trading Lauri M. They said it in Feb they had no interested in moving their All Star PF. This was put out by the team to their press in multiple new paper. They see him as a building block.
I'm not mad if we do it. I think he brings a veteran presence that we could use with our young guys and could still be very serviceable for us and help reduce pressure for Cade. He can be packaged if we don't want him later on. Plus, I think it's worth the gamble considering the 2nd round picks that we pick up… those can either be kept and we see how they develop, or they could be traded away with other assets for a bigger name prospect at some point. We don't give up much at all, really. What do we have to lose? Even if we swing at the fences on a bigger name guy now (Ingram as an example), there's no guarantee he will stay healthy anyway. You never know. It's always the unknown, and ever since we lost Arnie Kander with his frogs foot potions and weird stuff he did to keep our players healthy years ago, we have been a much more injury prone team overall. I want to win now like everyone else, but I also know it's going to still take time before we are playoff bound, etc.
Not a bad move, could provide some shooting/scoring off the bench. We are playing catch up as far as asset management
Keep him you can get kcp for that money
Tim isnt my first choice but he fills s need. Hopefully we would look to trade him at the deadline
