Lakers REBOUNDING MACHINE Free Agent Center Signing? | + Lakers Dan Hurley UPDATE!

[Music] welcome back everyone following the Lakers having a meeting with potential head coach Dan Hurley both we and they have to patiently wait to find out his final choice and well the Lakers have tried everything they can to make him want to become their head coach even going deep into their wall to make him a lucrative contract offer however that is not the only thing going on with their team right now while it definitely is prior team number one one for them they are currently planning for the NBA draft where they currently own the 17th and 55th overall draft picks alth developing their plan for free agency where over half their team will be entering by the way and not only their own free agents but they will be monitoring the entire free agent Market they might have limited spending power but that does not mean they should not be doing their own due diligence and especially with an opportunity to upgrade their team which many would like to see them do a backup center now they might be able to do that through the NBA draft though there have been reports both them thinking about trading their draft pick rather than keeping it which would likely refer to their 17th overall draft pick as their 55th overall pick does not hold much of any value and let’s say they do trade their first on drop pick where should they look to make an upgrade at backup center instead well a new intriguing option might be hitting the free agent Market with that being current Golden State Warrior and NBA champion kabon Looney and we’ll talk about why the Lakers should think about considering him although a quick new update on Dan Hurley but I think we’ll Begin by talking about Kon Looney and according to Tim kokini of the athletic cavon Looney could be in the quote unquote final weeks of him being a warrior with golden state being likely to cut him from their team of the 8 million that he is set to make next season only three of it is fully guaranteed and if Golden State would wave him at least one week prior to free agency they would save about 5 million on their payroll and with cavon Looney no longer being a big part of their rotation many believe that they would likely do it and if they would wave him I imagine that plenty of teams have an interest not only is the an NBA champion and a three-time one of that but he is still only 28 years old and one of the best rebounders in the entire league now he might not be a three-point shooter a law threat which eventually led to Golden State moving on from him but there definitely is value to be had here with him and especially if we’re talking about him on a veteran minimum contract which could be a real possibility for him again undeniable value here with him but the modern NBA does revolve around three-point shooting switch ability on defense and all around floor spacing on offense none of which gavon Looney is particularly good at doing and more likely than not that would lead to him signing for round a veteran minimum or at the very least under the tax Fair mid-level exception currently valued at 5.2 million which would be within the Lakers price range and with rebounding having been one of their bigger problems they could certainly benefit from a guy like kabon Looney their team ranked 19th in rebounds per game Dead last in offensive rebounds per game and then 19th and offensive rebounds per game given up to their opponent all of which being rather underwhelming and if we talking about rebounding which we are then very few could help them more than cabon Looney I mean the guy was having 20 rebound games like it was nothing prior to his playing time getting cut literally averaging 15 rebounds per game during round one of the playoffs last year simply put the guy knows where to be on the court when a shot goes up he is great at tracking the ball and then not to mention the effort that he puts into doing it never giving up on a play and simply out working his competition and no matter what you can never be mad at a guy like that even with him being a bit limited on the court you know that he’ll be giving you 100% effort and that’s something you got to appreciate back to rebounding here though whether we will be talking about him replacing Christian wood or Jackson Hayes that would be a big time rebounding upgrade either way and with the Lakers having rank dead last and offensive rebounds for game they might want to give Kavon Looney a look I mean you are not going to find many guys that can routinely get you two to three offensive rebounds for game let alone in only about 20 minutes for game like Looney can and the more opportunities you can give LeBron and Anthony Davis on offense the better even beyond that though while I did mention that he is not a very switchable Defender it’s not like he is a bad defender in fact he has ranked is a good one for pretty much every year throughout his entire career with that being especially true during the past four years now now he might not be able to switch onto a quicker guarder forward for a long duration but he can make them work for a play or two and then he is very physical down low very likely weighing more than the 222 lbs that he is listed at but regardless the guy is simply a hard worker and then you can Bine his strength down with his 7 fo4 wingspan he can bother more shots than you might expect and that obviously comes in handing for the rebounding work that he puts in with him often knocking the ball away from opponents when it’s coming down for a rebound and then finally while he definitely is a bit limited on offense one thing that has got overlooked about his game would have to be his passing ability now part of it his comfort playing within the free flowing Golden State offense but the other part is simply Kon Looney being a good passing big man averaging four assists every one turnover they is committed during the past two years combined now he might not be on the level of a marcusa but we did watch how well that combination can work with Anthony Davis and I think that’ll be an interesting one to pair with ad when LeBron goes to the bench having an Anthony Davis cabon Looney lineup would wreak havoc on the offensive glass and not to mention how physical they would be around the rim in general in my opinion cabon Looney would be a great addition for a betro minimum if they do not address their backup center problem through the NBA draft then I think they would benefit by adding caban Looney through free agency though it will ultimately come down to if Golden State actually waves him or not moving on here though we’ll finish up by talking about a brief update on Dan herley and actually two updates one of which being with the Lakers having offered or reportedly being willing to offer him a contract worth at or above 100 million with that once again coming from college reporter John Fanta and well that could certainly be a good reason for him to take the job that would be well over three times the amount that he is making at Yukon right now and even if Yukon would give him a new contract they simply cannot afford the lers may have just offered him now I’ve talked plenty about the other reasoning for him taking the job but that would have to be a pretty big new reason and while he definitely will get paid no matter where he goes or what he does it’s hard to Fathom passing up 100 million even for a pressure fill kind of situation though if you ask head coach of yukon’s women’s basketball team Gino aryama he would tell you that Dan Hurley can handle it in fact he claims that he literally did tell him that and like the hinting at him being able to do it better than JJ reic and here’s a quick flip so what’s your reaction to Danny Hurley you know this is really funny because uh I happen to be with at a thing with him um last night and uh I have no idea what’s going on you know I have no idea where this where this is going or what’s happening but I said just leaned over and I said uh hey I think you can win a lot of championships with the Lakers uh you know more so than a guy who’s never coached and um he just looked at me and you know nodded and we had a good laugh and then this morning I wake up and voila so I don’t know what’s going on and it’d be a bad day for Yukon for sure if this happens and it would be a great great day for Dan Hurley and a I’m sure a Bittersweet day for Dan Hurley again I’m pretty sure about that being directed at JJ reic but regardless if one of the best college coaches of all time is endorsing you then that is a pretty good stamp of approval and that is what Dan Hurley got from Gino arama although it is far from a guarantee to happen I mean we’ll likely find o in the next 24 hours but according to Sam Amo of Hoops the NBA job that Dan Hurley was really looking for happened to be the New York Knicks a pretty interesting report I mean I get it he probably would prefer to stay on the east coast and not only that but they have a really bright future there and then equally as big of a job compared to La a challenge that Dan Hurley does apparently want to take on and with him very likely to get a new contract offer from Yukon some believe that he might buy his time until the job opens up in New York potentially passing up the Lakers for a later opportunity with the
