Nikola Jovic on his GOAT: “MJ and the guy I always looked when I was growing up gotta be Russell Westbrook. He was the one who was playing every single game like it was his last one and that’s something I always loved.”

"Who’s my GOAT? It has to be my dad. He’s my GOAT. He’s someone who just always helped me grow in every single way possible, and he’s someone I look I look up to all the time. Talking basketball, probably Michael Jordan. MJ and the guy I always looked when I was growing up gotta be Russell Westbrook. He was the one who was playing every single game like it was his last one and that’s something I always loved."

  1. Russ has a lot of flaws but effort isn’t one of them

  2. Critical_Honey_4117

Westbrook is Goated, would take prime him over any current PG except Luka

  3. Russ was one of the most frustrating and most exciting players to watch. But I’ll take all of his flaws because he balled out every time he stepped on the court. He also just seems like a good dude and didn’t deserve the hate he got.

  4. SkepticalKoala

Couple reasons to discredit this take:
    1. Everyone knows Jovic is not real and is in fact just a fantasy dream by Heat fans misspelling Jokic’s name
    2. Can’t trust a guy who looks like the product of Kuzma and Herro having a baby
    3. People need to stop using GOAT when they mean favorite
    4. Crazy to realize that Jovic was born AFTER Jordan retired as a Wizard. I feel so old now…

  5. Solid-Confidence-966

He has a point, even in that Mavs series where he shot poorly he was still first to the floor for loose balls and always working hard on defense.

  6. Ok_Board9845

Bro has MJ as his goat and says he admired Westbrook growing up and not Kobe, lmfao

  7. IllllIllIllIllIllll

Celtics fan impression: Why are we talking about MJ, isn’t there a game today?

  8. AlphaGodEJ

okay am i racist for thinking this was the other guy for so long until i noticed the heat jersey lol

It’s kinda sad how much 2019/2024 Russ will hurt the perception of what he actually was in his prime from 2012 to 2018.

Even his biggest weakness, his efficiency looks way worse because he somehow became MORE inefficient as the league progressively got way more efficient, dude was always 1 or 2% below the league average, and then one year his free throw shooting, his mid range shooting and his already shaky 3pts shooting all got worse and he suddenly was almost 8% below the league average

  10. Spiritual-Chameleon

Nuggets need to trade for Jovic to confuse the shit out of everyone.

Lol I hate this take bc Westbrook in his prime did not actually give 100% effort. If he had the ball or was hawking for a rebound, yes. But if he didn’t have the ball he basically just stood still and he was routinely lazy and just resorted to gambling on defense.

  12. Louis-grabbing-pills

This whole “My GOAT” discussion is dumb. Just say “my favorite” player.

  13. jhussong91

i feel like younger fans/players dont realize you can have a favorite player without them being the goat

Honestly I feel him cuz I started really watching Westbrook in 2017 and that mvp season was honestly amazing to watch. Bro was so clutch and carried the team on his back. Being his fan is not for the faint hearted tho, dude makes so many bone headed decisions but I’ll remember that 2017 szn the rest of my life

  15. Urban_Introvert

Westbrook got a lot of hate for stat hunting but it was amazing seeing Russ have the knack for tracking rebounds as a point guard. Him and Rondo are two of the best rebounding small guards that come to mind.

  16. Folk-Herro

    Players love Westbrook

Fans (not I) don’t love him as much.

  17. Oh god please no. Prime Westbrook was stat padding like crazy

“as long as he was involved in the play that is”
