the Lakers they are still mulling over a very important decision as Adrien W narowski stops by so w Yukon head coach Dan Hurley has now physically met with the Lakers how close are they to agreeing on a deal for him to become the franchise’s next head coach Malik I I spoke with uh Yukon coach Dan Hurley a short time ago uh he tells me that he’s going to make a decision on whether he’s going to return to Yukon uh to pursue a three repeat uh as an NCA champion or accept what I’m told is a massive long-term offer to become coach of the LA Lakers by Monday that this is the decision he expects to sleep on tonight he spent Friday in Los Angeles with Rob palenka jeie bus of the Lakers he told me that they laid out a compelling case a compelling vision for him as Lakers head coach but he loves what he has at Yukon and he has spent today and he’ll certainly spend tonight uh following that decision uh on whether he’s going to leave for the NBA uh but Dan Hurley expects Monday for there to be a decision uh about his future and whether he’s going to leave for the LA Lakers [Music]

I'm predicting he's staying at UCONN as well. Lakers are just WAY too unstable right now. I don't think Jeanie is an owner I'd want to work for. You never know if she's coming or going.

If the Lakers are ready and committed to an actual rebuild after LBJ leaves, allowing Dan Hurley full control, then yes, Hurley will take the Lakers job. If it’s base in free agency then Dan will not take it.

The person really making out in all this is Hurley's agent. Hurley is using LA as bait to get a better contract at UCONN.

A great college coach has a great job. He is offered a long term coaching job with loads of money on a team that isn’t known for long term coaching contracts.
Assuming it’s significantly more money, the chess move is to take the new deal and if you’re fired then to simply go back to college 😅😅😅

Ok, ok, I've had a crescendo moment. I have parsed Hurley's comments today and believe he's sending a non-subtle hint that he's taking the job. Of course you expect Hurley to speak glowingly of the Lakers. He'd be an idiot not to, has HAS to if he ever wants to get a job in the NBA. But when he said the Lakers made a "compelling case", that basically signals he's taking the job! Compelling means evidence so clear that you can't refute it or resist it. Hurley's coming out saying that this iconic job, the huge contract, the tradition etc has won him over.

Yikes…so we go from a failed experiment with a Rookie Coach, to hiring a College Coach who is Rookie in NBA? Player Development (for which Hurley is reputed high) is for College or G League, no time or patience for it in NBA.

Hurley is not leaving UConn. This story benefited Hurley, the Lakers and Woj.
