“Make no mistake, Tom Thibodeau and the Knicks will want to keep him, but because New York only has his Early Bird Rights, the max deal the Knicks can put on the table is four years, $72.5 million. **The expectation around the league is that some team with cap space and in need of a more traditional center will come in over the top and offer more — north of $80 million and closer to $90 million for four years — and Hartenstein will take it”**

    Not looking great

Dolan will make up the money difference with modeling gigs for iHart’s wife. Why would he want to be the starting C in OKC when he can start in NYC?

  3. bailaoban

Beyond the money, iHart may see a shorter path to a ring with OKC too.

  4. They can take their shot if they need him, but does he accept is the real question. Maybe he loves it here, maybe he is promised a bigger deal later and endorsements that keep him whole. I do not know, but I think we have a great team and a great future that he can be a part of.

If put a 72.5m offer on the table, and he gets another offer for 80, I think he stays. 90, we are talking a huge amount of money to leave on the table.

I just hope he stays and OKC goes for someone like Clax

The reason why I don’t see OKC doing that much money is because they’re going to have to pay everyone else. You start overpaying non-priority players and you might end up losing key re-signings later on. I hope we can keep IHart though. Seeing his progress here after his tough start and blossoming into the player he is now has been great. I really want to see us run it back with this team. Feels like everyone else is cash strapped and will have to get rid of players to stay out of 2nd apron. We’re in a better spot financially, but we also have to remain smart. To me if IHart leaves for 80 million, I feel like all that talk about taking a discount for the Clips was bs. Him taking the paycut to stay for the culture would be huge, but I also don’t blame him if he gets an offer of $90mil and leaves.

  6. Although they are the most capable, will they actually invest? That’s what I’m waiting to see.

  7. Norby710

Better shot at a title and more money, hard to say no but we’ll see.

  8. FreakyFergg

If everyone in this sub throws in $1,000 we can make up the difference.

Do ya’ll want a ring or not?

  9. No_Handle_344

If IHart walks can we send more money towards OGs way?

  10. hyborians

Happy trails then. We can’t hate on bro if it happens

Does OKC have that much of a better shot at the title than us? I feel like their chances of coming out of the West are not as good as us coming out of the East

  12. Buddhaballer

I think the other main thing people have to consider. OKC likely sees chet as their starting center. so pay that much for a backup? also they like to go 5 out.

but otherwise it makes sense. if I was them I’d go short term high money ala FVV

  13. jay169294

Can’t even blame him if he left. Go get paid.

  14. Pablo_Undercover

losing IHart would be detrimental to the team we need to look at options at C asap

  15. heliumointment

if you truly believe ihart will leave NYC for +$4M/yr you have no faith in the team whatsoever and you should own that reality

  16. Urban_Introvert

At this point I can’t be mad either way. When IHart told the story of how he got screwed over, I’m like he better get that bag because he deserves it. He just fits so well with the current group of guys on and off the court. It’ll suck if he leaves but I’m now an IHart fan for life.

  17. DuaLipasClitoris

“Most likely to” and “likely to” are two very different things

  18. JackHammerPlower

We need some NYC based corporation to shell out a deal for 20mil if he signs in NYK

  19. NachosPR

Ya’ll think we could at least work out a sign and trade if it comes down to iHart choosing OKC?

  20. i_poke_urmuttersushi

He was part of this team mid season run, he will be missed hugely and even more when Mitch is out due to injury.

The biggest question is less going to be the money but more how long OKC is willing to give him. Given iHart has been on 5 different teams for the first 6 years of his career, I’m sure long term stability in one spot, on top of money, will be a priority. It seems inevitable the Knicks will offer the full max they can at 4yr/$72M. If OKC offers more money, but only on a reported 2 yr deal, I don’t think that’s going to be enough to pry him loose. However, if OKC or another contender matches the years at 4 with $20M AAV, I see him leaving for that.
