is that MC nuts I will make a statement and Monica will tell us whether or not that statement is MC nuts Monica if I said the Mavericks are done in the NBA Finals is that mcnut that’s going to be mcnut Greenie I think Boston has been dominant so far obviously but we’ve seen historically that 2 is not necessarily safe if these guys can perform better at home we could be looking at a three- game series and we know the capability of Luca and Kyrie all right we’ll see what they do meanwhile if I were to say and frankly I would that Drew holiday has been the Celtics MVP in these finals would that be MC nuts I do not think this is MC nuts we talked a little bit earlier in terms of the Kyrie conundrum it’s a big piece of what Drew holiday has been able to do I think on both sides of the basketball I think his Poise it is evident when you look at the core of the Celtics group that to me it’s between him and KP in terms of the piece that takes them over the top Drew holiday is a winning player in every sense of that word finally if someone were to say the Lakers should have just kept Darvin ham would that be MC nuts it is not MC nuts greeny like he’s a guy that got this team to the Western Conference Finals the roster has been um it has room for growth we’ll call it that right this is a high pressure job not many people are willing to step into it and honestly whoever comes in next is their track record going to be much better than what Darin ham brought to the table okay so we opened this hour talking about Dan Hurley’s decision not to go to Los Angeles Damen Woody sort of represents Laker Nation on our show he was with us last Thursday when this was breaking and he tweeted yesterday I’m embarrassed as a Lakers fan we got beat out by stores Connecticut I want to bring my uncle Seth Seth Greenberg no relation into this conversation because Seth I mean you know Dan Hurley really well you spend a lot of time around him and you were telling me so for the fans who would say this makes the Lakers look really bad this was a decision that Dan Hurley made because he decided the Lakers was not as good a situation as people think it is what would you say to them this was less about the Lakers and more about the Hurley family uh this has nothing to do with the Lakers and look the roster obviously has serious issues in terms of building a a potential Championship but this has to do with a couple things it has to do with one family and when I talk about family it’s not just Dan and his wife and and his kids but also his basketball family it’s June he recruited these guys to come to campus they already started their summer workouts all right they’ve already had indiv ual meetings now all of a sudden he’s coming back from LA and he’s got to face those guys and say oh by the way thanks for coming but I’m leaving uh Danny’s a really loyal guy so I think that the timing of it is an issue the opportunity to get a three Pat is something real that is historic all right that is something that’s really really special and then you know I think probably the last part is you know the Lakers you know Dan Hurley’s famous quote was you better get us now you know that was after I think a loss at Villanova a couple years back well you know you look at the at at the Lakers roster and there are a lot of question marks question marks with LeBron question marks with ad question marks with you know D’Angelo Russell I mean where are the solutions to the problem right now the Lakers model is is not right there’s an issue with the model of how they’re trying to build their team but I think it’s all about the hurleys so so that’s fair Seth stay with me because I want to get more from you on this but I I want to come to the to the desk here about the Laker piece of this because there are some who will just say it’s a bad look if you are the Los Angeles Lakers with all of their history and everything else that they to let the guy come out there on the plane let him fly back and turn you down sort of leave you at the altar that that that makes the I don’t know that it it it devalues the brand that it somehow makes the Lakers look less than they should Is that real should they should we feel that way I mean maybe a little bit but I can’t get that quite that fired up about it they made a run at Danny H they offered him a high salary not a crazy salary you could offer that you could argue were you surprised it wasn’t more I was a little surprised there wasn’t more because if this is your moonshot you got to throw everything at it and they threw like 80% of it at it we’ll put the full screen up as you talk Zach just so everyone can see where the salary would have slotted into everything go ahead look it’s not the first time in the last five six years that the Lakers have not gotten their first choice as head coach sometimes they get their third choice as head coach and this happens and it was a moonshot it didn’t work out and as we talked about you know W reported earlier in the show you yukon’s New Deal could be up to 8 million a year versus I think this is 11.6 you factor in taxes you factor in cost of living LA versus stores Connecticut like Damien said it gets a little closer it’s not that embarrassing it happens you move on they’ll get a good coach they’ve had good coaches they just got to keep a good coach for once well I mean if they’ve had good coaches someone needs to inform them of that because they Chang one of them championship and they said get out of here well this is my point so I mean they have it every we all think they were good coaches they themselves don’t seem to have and here the other part like if if it’s going to get to this then if you want them the Lakers have a reputation for not wanting to pay their coaches a whole lot of money and if you want like when this number came out yesterday I will admit it look it’s not my money to give out but I will admit I was thinking if if if it’s gotten to this point and you really want the guy you could have gone higher than this yeah there’s no limitation on the offer that’s the thing go as high as you want go salary cap and and and you make it a situation where we’re literally going to not allow you to say no to this money now look would he have anyway who who knows we’ll never know that the question about the brand and and and all that look guys turn down teams get turned down by guys all the time so I don’t necessarily believe that it’s affecting the brand but here’s the problem you have everybody knows whoever they hire was not the person they wanted which means when when you start to struggle that’s that’s the narrative like that’s what’s coming up well this isn’t the this isn’t the coach we wanted in the beginning anyway and that’s the problem and there’s going to be unrealistic expectations cuz LeBron James is on the team that team’s not going to get 10 for a title so that the whoever takes the job and there there I think there are some guys that you can pitch this in a different way and sell it in a different way to your fan base and to the media that I think can cover up some of this because I think it is a little bit embarrassing that they didn’t get the guy that they wanted and now they have to kind of restart the entire thing am I the only one stupid enough to think they’re not as far away from a title as we’re sort of making it sound they may be far away from Boston I don’t know that they were that far away in the jam-packed west they could have won every one of those games against Denver that they lost they won one playoff game they could have won every one of them if they F how many did they win well they won one one but they’re not that far away they were not that far away the Pacers weren’t that far away from winning three games against Boston they’re gone they won zero not only you have to win four to beat Denver you got to win four more against whoever Dallas Oklahoma City whatever you got to win four more after that and then you got to win the finals 12 playoff games in the west is so hard and the point of them being almost there is if you’re almost there in every game you’re going to lose half of them you got to get some easy ones and they never get easy I’m not saying just this exact roster but there isn’t one move they can make they they felt it felt one player away like they just needed one other guy one player away from winning two playoff games I think they could have won more playoff games than that the problem well the problem is listen they didn’t beat Denver and then somebody else did beat Denver and then somebody else beat the team that beat Denver okay and that’s not even taking Oklahoma City into the transit of post the Lakers weren’t that close to winning a champ follow fair I know great job of keeping us going on this one but yeah no they’re they’re not there they they will try hard to make a move this summer and make it maybe a Big Mo but you know what else is going to happen Trey young what whatever whoever you can keep saying names and we can say the names but other teams are going to make upgrades too and some of the younger teams are coming from behind like it’s just it’s a blood bath out there in the west let me get Seth Greenberg back in here cuz the question I really wanted to ask you Seth cuz you and I had a conversation last week when this story first broke both here and and in greater length on my radio show about we sort of it was like this was an existential threat to college basketball as we know it so now that that this didn’t happen and that the number one coach in the sport is staying what does it mean to you for college well it’s it’s a win for College athletics but you know here’s the dany’s Dany Hur is a little different like you know he he’s embraced nil he’s not going to go overpay guys but you know he getss guys on a discount cuz they’ve won back-to-back national championships but he understands it he went into the portals year if you look at their roster next year they got three guys from the portal that are all going to have an impact Alex caraban comes back they had to pay him but he’s still got to buy in if you’re going to Yukon for nil you’re going to Yukon for the wrong reason cuz he’s going to coach you every single day and hold you accountable what you go to Yukon for right now is to compete for National Championship to work your way into the NBA to make a difference and to be part of a championship caliber program nil if you it Embrace if you embrace it but it doesn’t absolutely overwhelm you that’s a problem some guys have just absolutely lost their mind on it he’s kept it in perspective great day for college basketball yeah I I think so
