some golf yesterday South Texas golf it was a warm day and um you uh early bedtime last night I sent some late night texts and saw it I saw it before the sun came up for most people that would count as last night but no I didn’t see anything I passed out man I’m a giant like I’m so I’m still so dehydrated that if one sudden movement and I’m gonna cramp up I I I woke up twice last night with ham screen cramps like the kind of things that will just like you’re possessed and just throws you out of bed how many beers too many to count too many to count how many Waters uh not enough to count that was see we got there late late you were late for your tea time late for my tea time and uh so I roll in and didn’t get a chance to stop and like load or because you’re a big star they were just like no come on through well the thing is when you go off at noon at any course South of let’s say Omaha not a lot of people behind you I mean it is hot I mean so they they weren’t mad I well most people you know are like working regular jobs on a Tuesday at noon noon on a Tuesday there weren’t anybody behind us so they were just happy we were there so we showed up and we we played five a little over five hour round so there’s no weights and of course we dropped a few balls here and there and um for those who know for the first time in my life I par number 12 at the golf club of Texas well hell hell yeah Bubba I’m just saying for those who know that’s about 120 pinned to Green all water all water and it didn’t even phase you I have sacrificed I don’t know thousand dollars worth of balls into that into that Lake I have given my my fair share and I heed up a range ball as I always do that thing stuck right there on the green and with that reason for life right there Rob qualified for the US Open which starts tomorrow unfortunately he won’t make it well I’m gonna get on a flight see if if anybody you know I I see somebody’s got a big soar on his foot so they might be an EXT maybe so maybe so just opened up a spot opened up I’ll wear my chkas and we’ll we’ll play some golf yeah man well congratulations on your par it was thank you they’re few and far between so yes I do appreciate it’s always nice man I’m not much of a par guy it’s like I celebrate them when they happen yes yes you have to man because it’s a br and yesterday at one point the Marshall I guess was making his round to make sure nobody had passed out in the middle of the Fairway and he actually stopped and said hey you know we got washcloths in a in a cooler back about take the car you got plenty of time he was talking to me like dude you need to put some wet washcloth on your head man you don’t look good no no take your car you got plenty of time are your uh are your kids better at golf than you oh yeah does that piss you off no it did it did yeah and it’s coming for you yeah there’s GNA be a time when when when literally the best you’ve got ain’t good enough I think as I’ve declined and my kids have gotten better at like I don’t I don’t like to play catch with my older son anymore I know the feeling yeah it’s uh ow it it hurts slow yeah and it’s just not it’s not that fun for me and I got a bum shoulder and it’s like I don’t want to do this golf you know I I’ve never been they started out better than me so that’s not one thing but it’s the other stuff like you’re talking about when you can’t play catch with them anymore basketball with basketball they’re hurting you and and in football you can’t guard them so yeah that you cross that bridge it’s a good bridge to cross but the acceptance part sucks uh Brian hops on the chat and says uh AJ thinks he’s a big dog trying to take tickets from the afternoon show now they don’t have 9:00 a.m. tickets got to show The Rook here’s what you kind of jumped out at me is the plus minus for Boston when he’s on the floor so he’s played 44 minutes in this series the Celtics are plus 25 when he’s on the floor in the 52 minutes he has been sitting teams are dead even like that’s a that’s ridiculous considering one of these games was a massive blowout and the other was a a seven-point win you know three possession game that’s wild I mean it’s it’s he’s clearly an an X Factor it does it feel like it when you’re watching offensively it does certainly felt that way that 18-point Onslaught to start the game but defensively he does meet you at The Rim the numbers tell you but and we’ve seen a couple of those but in the middle of there it doesn’t seem like he has that great of an effect defensively but he does I mean there the numbers don’t lie but it’s not always him making the play but for whatever reason defensively everybody else’s job gets easier when he’s in there um the if you’re looking for a way to attack this way to with get back to doing what they did to beat Minnesota be bouncy and be active and Lively not having that defensive role or not not having to to play as much on that end should open him up for some good the Lord needs to bless us with some physical spaces so far I’m not seeing a problem AJ so what he decided to do was take over properties from three North Texas churches so he’s like squatting squatting churches ah I get the angle but then he took it a step further he filed fraudulent Deeds list in a fake leader for the victim churches as the gr tours and naming his church in his own name as the grante they’ll never notice I I don’t know how this is a problem in total those properties are now valued at more than $800,000 um says stealing real estate is an incredibly serious and damaging crime the da says even if God told me to do it it’s worse than the theft of someone’s vehicle or other possessions because when someone steals property we must hold them accountable these are hurting people oh yeah he’s going to pay an $88,000 fine and uh and again he’s GNA pay it or will his flock I’m guessing the flocks goingon to pay it go fundme but this is first time he’s done he’s having a hard time learning this lesson back in 2019 he conveniently paid $10 to someone who claimed to be the chairman of the First Christian Church of Lancaster in exchange for the deed to his property $10 you say yeah the property valued at 700,000 people are always making deals like that I notic all you need uh for a contract to be uphold is this for that a quid pro quo and $10 is enough yeah evidently and during an interview in 2021 he claimed that he thought the property was vacant uh even though this church was established in 1846 um the church is community property our church was getting it I was fixing to open up a church there again even though there was an open Church there and you well it was a better church it was his church he had a better view of the go of his idea what God needed God told him to do it I I don’t know yeah I wouldn’t stand in his way sounds like a good God-fearing man the three the three churches are now bogged down in legal proceedings to remove his name from the Deeds um I’m sure he’d take a dollar or two to allow you to do that when we reached out to the church for answers about the scheme someone at the true foundation non-denominational church sent a succinct reply via email you can come see Mr Whitney Foster at jail at jail at jail damn well yeah you can but they were hoping you could talk I don’t know does he have like at jail 11 the votes of second place well I feel like it’s got to be the A’s but it is the Oakland A’s 40 out of 79 respondents over half the people asked said the Oakland A’s nobody wants to go play for him you know they’re moving to Vegas and you know things are the future’s bright yeah but are they really as bad as they used to be you felt like the Moneyball movie kind of kind of stained their reputation you know they were having to buy their own drinks and all that kind of stuff I don’t know how much how different it is now yeah you’d think that would have changed 25 years later I I saw I read an article the other day about how much the no it was a reel like an Instagram reel I saw how much this year’s Oakland A’s have in common with the Cleveland Indians in the movie major league and it’s like it’s incredible I mean they’re like the the same amount of games out of first place at the at this point in the season it’s like it’s wild who owns the aegs by the way uh I don’t even know I mean do we have anything to strip so they yeah it’s not it’s not a hot chick oh too bad not a hot chick uh second on the list 19 votes see I would you know you got to think of a market where they never any the Rays because they’re forever retooling it seems like well the Marlins the Marlins won the World Series twice and then immediately cut everybody from their teams and San Diego shoot that seems like a great place to play San Diego I give credit to because they keep shooting their shot even though it’s not working they’re still spending a bunch of money that Stadium’s beautiful the weather’s great you got to pay California taxes and you’re and you’re also not winning a whole lot but other than that not a bad place to be I would have thought um like so on the it’s there’s some player quotes on the A’s I mean have you seen what they’re doing to the city of Oakland and their fans it doesn’t seem like they want to win I’ve heard Oakland is pretty rough Sacramento for three years I’ve been to that ballpark before they can’t find something better so bad reputation for the a with the uh with the Rays it says when it comes time to pay players they usually trade them they get rid of you once you get expensive or close to it just not a player friendly organization um what is the most irritating criticism of the current game coming from former players uh irritating criticism ISM uh pitch stealing celebrations oh bat FPS we’re having too much fun bat flipping pimping home runs yeah I’d be upset with that too um old players also seem to overlook the current game’s degree of difficulty um and that what else is new toughness or lack thereof is something else that they what else is new should Major League Baseball shut down midseason so players can participate in in the 2028 Summer Olympics in La this is a yes no uh 53.3% what do you think they said no no yeah what but it’s closer than I thought I would have thought they’d all say no I think the ones that want to play want to go to the Olympics the other guys are like I’d like a vacation sure let’s shut down for a couple weeks um it depends some of the ones who said yes depends on how serious every country would take it if the Dominican Fields a good roster in Venezuela that would be pretty cool uh it is the Olympics you’ve only have you only have so many times to participate I think it would be a blast if the players if the players weren’t affected with pay ah I’m all about representing your country if we can somehow still get a full season and I’m on board with it it’s only every four years I I don’t have a problem with it if there’s a way they could get rid of the allstar game that year that would be pretty cool I think that’s okay I I could see that for those who said no uh I’d love to play in the Olympics but I don’t know what that would look like I come back from 3 to off my timeing is shot the WBC is better anyway injuries would go through the roof to be honest the US would be too good and we destroy and win everything I’m not not so sure about that I like the idea though um so I but I like the idea of uh throwing out the All-Star game that year you know they did bring up the World Baseball Classic and we do have that that is a thing so it’s not like we don’t have some kind of world conclave of greats but um it’s the Olympics I think think you could shut down you can manage what does the hockey league what does hockey do doesn’t hockey have a yeah a process already in place let everybody go y so I think there’s other teams that are doing it other leagues that are doing it yep um have analytics helped your career hurt your career or made no difference to your career depends on like judge n hadn’t helped me at all uh other dudes yeah analytics have saved a lot of baseball players 76% say it’s helped oh yeah man 76 those hidden stats that baseball dudes love have made millions of dollars reduced 3.2% said it hurt those are the guys who are probably not very good well baseball players and that that were pulled in one fashion or another feel it would be better for the game in themselves to enact a salary cap 13.5% feel that the other 15% say they think there should be a floor absolutely but not a c like a floor got to pay a minimum i i i as a sports fan I appreciate the importance and the value of a salary cap I do and I think there should be a limits as an American get your money that’s anti-American what do you mean there’s a limit to how much I can make get your money so I mean Rob Thompson knows there’s no R there’s no uh salary cap for radio guys you don’t limit me baby get your hand out my pocket Rob’s getting the quarterback money around this place go earn it is me and Min and Ryan AEL are just yeah I’m pulling in that Garner menu check that boils down to where baseball players come from um and I think a lot of lot of people a lot of baseball players make their offseason homes in Texas California so there’s going to be a in Florida I think there’s gonna be bigger numbers of those um so there you go uh they didn’t mention the pitch clock they didn’t bring that no I would have liked that because I feel like there are I to me it’s like not even question it’s so good for the game I do hate it when like guys strike out because they stepped out or something that’s absurd but especially in key situations but what do you think about uh sticky stuff they didn’t ask him about that either that’s a good one to ask that’s what they should have asked I think that those those are the kind of internal things that have genuinely affected kid’s rep there’s a lot of reputations are you going to Define who you were are you who we thought you are are you GNA be something different better elevated I think even and maybe it’s unfair because he’s got a ring and should have already separated from this but Kyrie oh I mean are you who we thought you were because this is a guy who I mean he has truly changed His Image in the last I don’t know Giannis had 50 in the closeout game uh before that that was the uh the Cleveland coming back from 3-1 against Golden State which will never happen again um 2006 Miami beats Dallas in six so Dallas on the opposite side of this thing you know Boston will always play to the level of their competition you know that’s just the kind of their mindset I don’t know why I don’t how I don’t think they’ll be able to break out of it that’s the only prayer that Dallas has right now that Boston lowers their expectations they’re up 20 they’re going to punt a game here we’ll let christops rest and figure out what a tenaculum or is whatever and then get back to work and that’s the that’s the one glimmer of hope that Dallas has that they just kind of take their foot off the gas and Jason Tatum stays Jason Tatum and lets things come to him and if nothing comes to him then he won’t do much if you remember that 06 uh series Miami and Dallas like the big narrative Dwayne Wade averaged 39 and a half points per game in the last four games but the big narrative was he shot 73 free throws in those last four games that’s something that is repeatable I think if the officials decide we’re going to start calling things a little tighter we’re gonna like I think that benefits Dallas without hesitation it does it not only because it benefits their their game in the way that they want to play they want to limit possessions and free throws allow you to limit possessions but also I I’ll go back to it they’re not a very deep team and every second that Luca is not running is a good thing so the more you get him standing taking free throws watching free throws standing on the sidelines all those things that benefits them they want fewer possessions and they want longterm possessions when they’re doing it um so any other time when you can rest them yeah man the problem is you got to get to the rim to do that you got to earn them the problem is Luca’s got to make free throws and that’s been an issue for some God awful reason like you know I put two and two together though because he he’s never been a great free throw shooter but he’s a great shooter and you wonder why you know in that last game he had to get injections into his chest to to ease whatever that I’m wondering if that’s affecting when you’re when you’re slowing down his free throw could be because that was embarrassing when at the end of the game when you bring up like man I got to make my free throws you wonder what is off about him and when you’re getting a shot in the chest to dead in pain that might have been an issue Claymore says 25-year-old Luca has done his job reputation is not on the line oh he’s a star but no if you want to be who you think you are one here’s what I believe about Luca like Luca is one of the best players in the world there’s no question the problem with with becoming those guys is your expectations change and just like doing your job isn’t enough ask LeBron I mean how many how many finals did LeBron I mean even the finals against the Spurs the very first time LeBron went to the finals he was alone I mean he was incredible and they got swept um Allen Iverson when they they they won one game against the the Lakers but he I mean and that was a time when Iverson was considered one of the best in the world and literally won a game by himself but he’s still known as a guy who didn’t win one right and if you if you don’t win one it’s it hangs over you and it hung over LeBron for a long time probably unfairly um but that’s just the facts of it it’s not fair but it is what it is and when when you’re not when you don’t have a ring you can’t fall back on that it’s it’s in most sports by the way like yes if Aaron Rogers hadn’t won that one ring we would look at Aaron Rodgers very very differently right now he’d be Archy Manning Drew Brees same thing it it’d be like man nice numbers but God wasn’t a winner go sit over there with Jim Kelly Jim Kelly and Dan Marino comes yeah there’s a roped off section for those guys guys that should have could have but didn’t and and think about how your reputation changes once you do it John Elway Absolut oh Elway above all needed a title needed one too but lway for those that remember he was truly the greatest never two and had colossal collapses on the way to it and maybe you could make a good case for John Elway being the most talented quarterback that’s ever played maybe maybe now with Patrick Mahomes maybe it’s It’s You Know lesson but very similar John Elway was he had every gift you could ask for he was incredible uh especially in his younger days when he could move a little bit better but but if that guy would have never won it would have been like man what a massive disappointment I think Luca is is in the class now where until he wins one people are going to be like when’s he going to win one and to to be fair so is Jason Tatum yes that’s I’m saying I think that of the those that are current of the era parents to the Nows there’s Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown and Luca that are playing right now that it is a defining moment for them one of these or two of these depending on the team that wins will walk away with the ring and all the benefits they’re in everything from now on because not only are you a ring winner and a and a title holder but now you have this certain skill set that becomes marketable as your career winds down that you know I’ll go get this guy to and I’ll pay him $9 million a year for a year or two just to teach the kids how to win a title I mean so not only do you benefit as a with your reputation but financially you become a a more important player down the line because you bring to the table a ring and that is the most IND difficult and most impossible thing not only to replicate but to go find guys that know and have been there there the value is is so much so that we still talk about whether you got a ring or not and then guys like Kyrie listen you go to a different level when you win a ring in multiple spots because then it’s like it’s not system it’s your your game is your game and whether I don’t know I mean pton winning his second title was a big deal for his legacy I think but even though pton wasn’t pton at that point um not that pton didn’t have I mean pton had maybe his best year in Denver but the year that he won the Super Bowl they didn’t win the Super Bowl because of him but the fact that pton won in two different spots it’s like okay that that you’re in the club it gives you almost even more uh swing and Kyrie if he can win it in a second place it’s like okay I see you um I I wonder it’s funny we we just talking about Jason Tatum if he wins a ring and continues to play the way he’s played people will be like yeah he won the ring but he wasn’t even the best player on his team that series like yeah I I think we’ll say that but it won’t sound as derogatory as it does now you know what I mean I think we’ll look at it like truth is as time goes on people forget the how you won your ring like people forget that pton Manning in Denver like that was the the end of him being a good quarterback people people are I think people are starting to forget I don’t know if they’ve totally forgotten yet that Kevin Durant’s one ring came when he joined a super team was a Merc but at the when all is said and done No One’s Gonna care and so I think with Jason Tatum no one will care long term but there there there might be some initial like oh well he you know he wasn’t even I 20 years from now no one will remember who was who Shay gilgas is the Pivot Point on this I always felt like Team America would always win these games because our guards were just better they were just better play and once you start getting these guys out there that are capable what Shay’s doing man oh man it’s getting there I mean it’s right there now depth if we were playing a full 15 team team a 15 guy team I’d beat you every di of the world I agree but when we’re going five on five even seven on seven I think Euros have gotten us because they’re guard players improved and now we’re talking about of the Euros coming out we got four more Gish types that are coming into the league I I wanted to say all that with one preface though no matter how good Americans have gotten at soccer I mean we’ve gotten guys that can strongest legs they know the game they’re learning the game the same way the Internationals are but there’s just something intrinsically different about growing up in the game where it was born and how it was born yeah and American basketball guards and specifically the inner city game getting to the rim understanding the nuances of how you play in in crowds playing in a phone booth the international game’s wide open lots of space out there you come in the NBA game and you’re going to have to get in that compact group um there was the Euros could never do that and now they can I mean and you could make the argument that today the two best guards in the world are Luca and SGA and I’m not even sure I count Luca as a guard I I will always count him as a small forward but he’s good enough to be the two you know um the the times have changed but I would still put if it was the best five and you name however the you pick for the Americans if it’s close the US would win I just think that they’re something in there about how we play the game that we just do the game better than they do they’re capable of individually doing it great but when it comes to teams and understanding how to win a game and not in the international rules I’m talk we’re playing American rules we’re not playing feea ball and off the rim we’re playing our rules okay um we’re better at it we’re just better at the game just like the Brits will up until maybe 50 years from now will always be better at soccer because they learned something when they’re three years old four years old sitting on their grandfather’s lap you know talking about the game that we just don’t get yeah um and but I think we’re finally starting to see that shift do you like it is it a good thing well yeah sure it’s good for the world yeah I mean it’s good for the for the game so before changing our game in 2011 when Dirk won the uh finals MVP cuz you’re talking about like being the being the you know being the guy who can get you over the top in 07 it was Tony Parker um before that you had to go back to 94 with hakee so it like it was rare for these these foreign players to end up being there at the end winning championships at the end the difference between a lot of like AEM AE is not an international player AEM was born in Africa but he learned the game in Houston the dude he might have picked up a ball 20 times before he arrived in Houston so everybody could say he’s a Euro guy well he was born in Africa but he was taught the game in Houston and he played the game like he would learned it in Houston now he picked it up later he was never Euro coached you know he had a little bit he was a soccer player so I never counted him as an international player because he didn’t play like an international player he was taught by us well you’re not allowed to just throw stereotypes and say well this is how International Players there is a way that they play and we’re looking at it I mean the way Luca plays that’s a thoroughly International game what about the way Giannis plays very intern well no Giannis has learned the American game because Giannis is all about dunks and he got here raw and so when we he yeah he was born in Greece and he played a little bit of young International Ball but really he learned the game here Dirk didn’t learn the game here he learned it in Germany but Luka learned the game in in Europe a joker learned the game in Europe and just refined it here but I think guys like Giannis and joic winning finals MVPs are it’s now getting to where it’s these guys are getting there they’re figuring it out oh uh beyond that they they figured it out they were always capable and like I said it’s the guards that have changed the tide for their international basketball all right uh when we come back uh one of my one of my favorite guys in the business he a guy who interned for me in Houston and has literally turned into a full-blown media star in the world of golf so you were kind of in his way I was I was holding him back I I was uh I I basically didn’t you know I I didn’t give him the the proper push or something um but he’s you know this guy’s working for PGA Tour he’s working for uh uh the hello doct Dr will how are you my friend hello AJ hey thanks for uh thanks for having me on to preview the the US Open and and that’s right I think you were being a little bit kind there I think uh three years ago AJ Hoffman gave me a chance uh on air the on uh they on ESPN 975 Houston where where I still do a Saturday show and I had been an intern for nine months in the middle of Co so uh you know he put me on in a in a in a really tough time in the World of Sports media so um I’m always appreciative of that but as far as the US Open listen you’re G to see a much better uh more OG Championship test at Pinehurst uh rather than what we saw last year at La Country Club which was just a total corporate mat house uh Pinehurst you know there there was already you know uh full Grand stands on Monday this is a golf town the Golf Hall of Fame just moved there uh and the putting surfaces there at Pinehurst we heard players like wam Clark and Victor hin uh say yesterday that these greens at Pinehurst are already baked out distance really does not matter this week as we heard from Tiger Victor and wendam the real test is is the creativity around the greens and three putt avoidance this week at Pinehurst but it’s going to be a great test and uh I I’m fired up to get the week going real quick tell us about the course we talk about it back to the motherland and this is a golfers Golf Course um what do they do different at Pinehurst and last year at the LA that doesn’t matter but what is what is specific about Pinehurst that scares the golfers so much well I think when you look back to 2014 when Martin kimer won uh you know the the the surfaces around the greens uh changed to Bermuda in 2011 so it’s very grainy uh when you’re hitting pitch and Chip shots a lot of players opt to take out you know the Texas wedge putter right off the green take out a three wood bump a little four hybrid up there uh but what’s changed between 2014 and now is is uh the run-ups and the the slopes at Pinehurst around the greens were pretty smooth and flat this year they’re a little bumpier you can’t putt from everywhere around the green so it’s it’s pretty imperative like I said distance does not matter this week it’s imperative uh that you have someone who can make the correct decisions off the tea it’s not driver off every tea appineers this is not the longest US Open test that there is it’s a relatively easy walk uh as long as you can make the correct Club decision off the te sometimes as we heard Bryson Des Shambo talk about yesterday sometimes you take a six iron off the te to make sure you’re in you’re in the meat of the Fairway and you know because sometimes you take driver on these par fours where you’re supposed to hit six iron off the te you take a driver and all of a sudden your Landing Zone becomes a lot skinnier so Club placement off the off the te Club choice is very important as far as approach shots uh Rob know you have to keep the ball pin high or below pin high I would I wish I could make a bet this week that Scotty Sheffer does not miss one green long at Pinehurst this week that’s how he how good he is with distance control that’s the kind of distance control we’ll need out of our winner and then on and around the greens you really it’s not so much that you have to be the best chipper in the world but you have to have some level of creativity at Piner to make the right decision when you know you’re faith a little you know 10 yard short Sider if you miss a green r on the sixth hole at pineur you have to have that level of creativity so if you’re telling me that that being the the big hitter doesn’t matter much is that spell bad news for guys like Rory mroy or or wendam Clark the guys who we expect to go out there and just crush it are those guys at inherit disadvantage on this course automatically well I I would say Rory number one let’s start with Rory is at a disadvantage because he struggled time and time again to make the right decisions on the golf course this year it actually has nothing to do with his talent or where his game’s at uh he just doesn’t make the right decisions on the course he likes to get aggressive he likes to go after uh pens you know so if you put a back right pen at Pinehurst Rory is going right for that flag he could care less if he goes long and that is a recipe this week those types of decisions are recipes for quick triple bogies take him right out of the tournament uh and that’s why I’m going to fade Rory this week uh I think you can find the matchup um I you know Rory to me uh has a lot of other things going on off the golf course that he needs to take care of yeah I’m gonna go ahead and take I think it’s all good man I think the divorce is off right yeah like everything’s better now will they’re reile you didn’t have to write that check everything’s I heard that news yesterday I think he’s got a lot of other things going um I’m gonna go ahead and take Victor hin over Rory okay at plus 121 this week um I think Victor you know he’s starting to find the stride in his game uh and like I said with Rory number one you know besides what’s going on going on off the golf course he can’t even make the right decision on the golf course when it comes to hitting a good iron shot from 175 yards and N so I’m off Roar this week all right let’s talk about the guy Scotty sheffler uh what are the odds he gets arrested this week uh how are the cops in North Carolina compared to Louisville uh yeah yeah these are Big City police uh here in in Pinehurst North Carolina but what’s what’s Scotty’s I mean this this season looks like it’s going to be incredible for Scotty first of all but how’s this course set up for him and I mean what what’s it going to take for him to to continue this incredible run yeah I think he I I truly believe I think he’s got we have seven P he has seven PGA Tour events left this season plus the Olympics in Paris uh and then two majors the US Open and the British Open you know sheffer’s at five wins this season after the win at mirfield I truly think that Scotty sheffler can get to that 89 win mark something we haven’t seen since BJ and 04 tiger 2000 um and if he could if he could get to to nine wins if he could win three more PGA Tour events this year and maybe one more major either this week at the US Open or the British Open plus the gold medal at the national um you know nine wins a gold medal two majors I would say that would go down as one of the greatest modern SE Seasons we’ve seen since you know Ben Hogan’s 13- win season in in 45 and then Byron Nelson won 18 in 46 I don’t think get to to those number of wins PGA Tour members only have to play 16 events per season but sheffler’s on a historic run no doubt I think it continues this week at Pinehurst I’d be all over that plus 333 number at MGM I think his distance control is the best on tour uh and then you know on top of the ball striking which you you don’t have to hear it for me you turn on any golf Network and you’re going to hear that Scotty’s ball striking is resembling tigers and 2000s but what about his work around the greens he’s fourth in scrambling right now on the PGA tour and since he hired Phil Kenyan after Riviera Sheffer has climbed all the way to first place in putting average on the PGA tour so all around he has the he has the best game on tour by mile we heard Rory and Rah talk about it in their pressers yesterday no one has any idea how it feels to play that well except tiger that’s the kind of run sheffer’s on I’m all over him the Pinehurst this week when you look at you you talk about grinding in your short game play and I think of when I think of Jordan spe and coocher and those guys um I like those G their their game what what do you think they play into this well I spe was one of my picks to place considerations this week which means I was eyeing his top 10 ticket but at the end of the day uh you know spe has not proven he can be consistent enough with his ball striking especially the iron play it’s been all over the place week to week so that’s why we have to be out on Jordan this week but Rob you’re absolutely right uh spe around the greens one of the best short games on tour if you could find a player um I checked and there’s not but you know if we had uh you know spe vers maybe an unhealthy Ron before he withdrew yesterday maybe that would have been a nice matchup but there’s really no opportunity this week to take speed with with how bad he struggled this year number one um Justin Rose is also a player uh who played very well at Pinehurst in 2014 he’s a veteran uh very creative around the greens uh but he hasn’t played that well in his last six or seven events so yeah there there’s a couple veterans coocher uh you know he’s he’s had some okay performances this year uh but really when you talk about sleepers and long shots there there’s really a couple young guys that I’m targeting this week Robin AJ uh let me ask you about the live guys and we’ve seen Rooks keco win a couple of uh of these us opens I think back to back we we’ve seen Bryson win one uh how do you think the live contingent fares this weekend in Pinehurst well I think the winning score AJ is going to be somewhere between six and nine under par and anytime that’s the case at a US Open I I do like uh Brooks KK’s chances you know I followed him a lot last week at Live Houston down at Golf Club Houston and I was a little worried coming out of that coming out of Liv Houston because Brooks just didn’t seem like he wanted to be there and you know in in the week before the US Open I expect a player to get a little bit more jacked up I know Brooks does not care about regular season events but he was really lagging and and and just I it looked in his face you know after every round like he wanted to withdraw and um so I like Brooks in a in in a matchup this week I like him over Fleetwood at minus 115 on BET online I originally AJ I like Brooks over Rah uh you know that was a great ticket there on BET online rah’s out with the with the lesion between his pinky toe in the next toe over so so uh we’re not going to get a chance at that um I like Brooks’s chances I like him a matchup this week or his top 20 ticket anything more than that I I don’t expect Brooks to be in one of the last two groups on Sunday this week um but I do expect him you know to be around that tied for 20th tied for 25th Place um going into the final round my favorite player um you know from Liv this week is Bryson dambo I have him at 35 to1 from December you can get him at 20 to1 now on MGM and bet online you know Bryson while he is kind of this uh well before before the beginning of this year we we all came to know Bryson as this long drive guy he was trying to hit it farther than everyone else it even entered into a couple long drive competitions well you know this year in total he’s really focused everything on on competitive Golf and and not worrying about you know Bryson the YouTuber Bryson the long drive comp competitor and we’ve seen the fruits of that labor come out in these first two majors sixth at the Masters second at the PGA Rob ad remember at the PGA you know and their mothers wanted to see Bryson wi in Valhalla yeah but Bryson got boring man swing for it big I mean that’s what I go to see him swing for it no listen it’s an entertaining product that type of style of game is not gonna is not would not be entertaining at Pinehurst if he brought that long drive mentality into Pinehurst Rob and you bought you bought a ticket to go watch him on Saturday he would not be there but lucky for us he’s gonna take a more cons conservative approach and we heard Bryson yesterday in his press conference the theme of the week for him is discipline discipline to his game plan making the right Club decisions off the te and you know what I love about Bryson this week he feels most comfortable uh the the part of his game that he feels most comfortable with is his short game and putting around the greens at Pinehurst we already know you know he he he is an amazing ball Striker to hear him talk about how comfortable he is around the greens irer I’m all over it at 35 to1 from December and 20 to1 this week you got some uh before we get to the the Best Bets part of this thing you got some kind of some sleepers or or some guys who uh have played this course well historically that you feel like maybe worth a watch this week yes I have two Sleepers for you AJ number one is Frankie CPP in the third to top 20 at 14 to one you can find that at MGM William Hill or at bet 365 for my friends across the Bond Kath was The Medalist at the Durham North Carolina final qualifying location uh you know he’s not even a member of the PGA Tour he’s on the corn fairy tour uh which is kind of like golf triaa uh if you were to compare it to the MLB but you know kaen made it through with these rounds of 6866 last Monday um and I was covering final qualifiers for the PGA Tour and I was not surprised at all um you know that he made it through number one you know he’s eight on the corn fairy Tour on their money list um which means you know with they’re already through the halfway point of the season and if you’re on the top 30 at the corn fairy tour money list at the end of the season you get your your card on the PGA tour so you can expect to see Frankie on the PGA tour next year I first watched him at a corn fre Tour event earlier this year in Arlington and I watched him shoot 58 in the first round of that tournament and it became apparent as I watched him more and more through the week this guy he’s the next Elite ROM level Sheffer maybe not Sheffer level ROM level Kea level type ball Striker on the PGA tour and number two this is most important Kapp has already had success at Pinehurst in his young career he won the US four ball back in 2017 at Pinehurst so this is a golf course CPP has won on before um in number three another very important thing when betting golf you have to look at some recent play and going into this week Captain has two top five and in the last four stars rolling into Piner so sleeper number one I like Frankie uh C the the third to top 20 at 14 to1 uh I’ve got one more for you that’s Nick Dunlop to top 20 at plus 700 on Bata and when you really look at competitions that took place at Pinehurst over the past couple years yeah you won’t find a pro event since back in 2014 when Marty kimer won but every summer the North and South amateur uh which is a premier College event it’s played at Pinehurst Nick Dunlop won that last year remember he only turned Pro uh in the fall after the AMX I’m sorry early spring uh at the AMX he was only a sophomore in Alabama he won uh the AMX and then turned Pro it’s been a bumpy year outside of his win he’s still 92nd on the FedEx Cup points list so he’s got to put it in gear at one of these last you know eight events of the season I think Pinehurst is going to be a great place for Dunlop to do that since he won like I said last summer on this golf course against an Elite field at North and South amateur so uh sleeper number two for me would be Nick Dunlop to top 20 at plus 700 and and anyone can find that on bada will we got about 45 seconds left hit us with your best bet for the week here yes it’s l viberg the top 10 at plus 210 you can find it on Caesar’s fanuel and DraftKings listen some Talking Heads that can’t break 90 or saying oh ludig has a uh he’s got a he’s got an injured knee he’s got an injured knee just take a look at how well he’s played at every Big Time event this year the Masters RBC Pebble Beach this guy’s playing well everywhere he’s third in total driving fourth in proximity to the hole with his approach and he’s got a solid short game as he’s seventh on the PGA tour in scrambling all around great player maybe the second best to some would call him has passed away at the rip old age of 86 uh Jerry West who is um I mean obviously one of the greatest players of all time but also came into uh to to fame as a an executive later in his life played for one one six and other capacities y um good run certainly but I guess it’s funny to think he’s been working for the LA Clippers and he did work he worked with the Warriors The Warriors when they were in the the heat of their run and worked with Memphis for a minute U certainly his Fame for his Lakers play the logo for sure um he was part and partial to the league in the 50s and 60s especially in the 60s when the Lakers were the only thing in the way of the of the Celtics they couldn’t stop them and Jerry just lost consistently to the Celtics I mean it was what it was you know of recent years he’s certainly uh been completely successful what he’s doing have you did you watch the HBO Showtime series with the way he was portrayed he was not happy with how he was portrayed in that in that series I don’t know how accurate that was but this is a huge loss to the League this is the kind of the heart and soul what the NBA has been for the last 40 years Jerry West has played a huge role in all of it it’s been a rough week in the league Eight titles as an executive two-time executive of the year um 20 seven points per game in his career that’s pretty damn good um so rest in peace to the logo 10 time all NBA first team that’s pretty impressive too so there’s some uh one of the one of the ogs seems that were remaining uh so Jerry West dead at uh what was it what did we say 80 uh 86 86 country boy from West Virginia West Virginia Country Roads Take m home a walking bucket yeah we 6-3 white guy guy dominated the league one of the OG I I you know you go back and watch that era of basketball and it was played in such a different manner it’s like watching a completely different game and he dominated at that time just on a Lakers team that couldn’t get past the Celtics he engineered a trade for um the Lakers after they won a title that brought in a number one pick out of North Carol Carolina that just kind of furthered thing along and from that moment on I realized that the Lakers and Jerry West were playing chess and the Spurs were playing checkers way back when I just felt like we were outclass in the front office the back office the team the locker room he just always felt smarter than everybody else in the league yeah had it had it going on as for certainly as the uh the the the showtime Lakers played such a uh a big role in what they did and um yeah this is a not so much as a coach that that didn’t work out as well no but once he got into the the front office the big office uh put Pat Riley in charge of of the the basketball on the on the floor I mean who know I mean it’s easy to say well he was great winning all these tourn or winning all these championships with magic Kareem and James Worthy but I mean he put those teams together and there’s something to be said for it anybody who hired Pat Riley yep that’s enough so uh Jerry West passes away at 86 years old he’s got no he’s gonna have no idea who won the uh the NBA title this year he’s gonna miss it although um I think you know what I think he died precisely at the moment when he realized that the world is better than America at basketball now the moment he heard us up and went I gotta go he said I’m not going to live through this uh also on his list of accomplishments how about this the presidential medal of freedom in 2019 I mean this guy you know you go to you got to give credit who’s who’s winning these things only the elites so uh well done good good long life for our guy Jerry West I I you know I it’s like to me it’s when you’re 86 no one wants I I don’t think I can say it’s like oh this is such a sad day it’s like dude guy uh had a damn good life um long good life to me that’s that’s a hell of a run and you’re complaining about 86 I don’t know what you were hoping for the the woes Dro Jerry West lived a profound basketball life and American Life iconic as a player executive and looming figure in the history of the game he was an MVP a champion a gold medalist a dynasty Builder and literally the League’s logo his loss leaves a massive void there you go that’s the tweet from Adrian rinowski as we uh we remember finally Jerry West whether you’re a Laker fan or not you have to respect what he did yeah so uh all right now back on to uh to happier times as we prepare for game three tonight I’ll ask you Rob just put it put it simply for me what one or two things what are the what are the top of the list of things that have to change for the Mavericks for them to get into this thing and OB obviously porzingis being out certainly helps but what what need what do they need to do to give themselves a better chance here control the pace control the pace of the game never let Boston Run keep them from doing that control the pace limit possessions you do that by making sure your stars are taking free throws put Luca in a situation to where free throws are part of just about everything that he’s doing uh defensively if you don’t have to worry about porzingis own the paint and make the make Boston prove to you that they are indeed the best shooting team a three-point shooting team in the NBA control the pace they miss a few shots I I think uh minus porzingis tonight your job got easier but you’re gonna have to go back to something that was successful but it’s been a week since you did that so you’re gonna have to go back to the stuff that you were doing against Minneapolis and and and that’s the long answer the short answer uh your your two stars have to be stars tonight Kyrie’s gonna have to be what Kyrie was Luca is gonna have to be what LCA is capable of and if they do that then everybody else will follow and they’ll win yeah I mean I I think that’s the the simplest thing is Luca has to not turn the ball over Kyrie needs to get involved from a scoring standpoint somehow inflict your will on the game Kyrie and it might just be assists they might not let you score but you are gonna have to play a role in the outcome yeah I I I I don’t think there’s much uh I I don’t think there’s much option I I don’t think that they can they can win if those two guys aren’t just balling out so uh I I tend to agree I I don’t know that winning this game is going to matter much um I mean obviously it matters because if they don’t then nothing else matters but I do think there this series already feels kind of like it’s decided I don’t know if you get that same Vibe like you’re feeling like Dallas is going to get this because they’re going to rest poor zingus everybody takes a deep breath and and and then they come out just and and dominate the rest of Home lead just kind of how it feels I I maybe I’m wrong but I I get that vibe that it’s it’s not over but it’s on the way to being over if Luca can find it in there to win two games and take this back as an even series best of three M Luca will separate himself in one way and Jason kid will separate himself in another way if Boston if they can’t if they don’t win one here the narrative and the crushing weight of expectation will start to build with every game with every game that crushing weight of and it won’t be just on Tatum keep in mind Missoula this is a dude that hadn’t been here before or or been in a lead like this there’s a lot for him to prove and and so far so good with him he’s under the radar we haven’t had to he hadn’t had a Nick nurse moment where he missed a timeout he hadn’t had a moment where he’ completely screwed something up um there’s a lot of things at stake on the road that go into these kind of wins that I’ll tell you if Dallas can catch a little bit of a spark just enough I like it I just don’t think that they can I just think they’re out of time and out of players and um they’re hoping there too many things have to go right for them to win you know you you’re H for if you can inflict your will to do this and that you should win every game but now you’re hoping like pingles doesn’t play and if Tatum stays passive and if all this happens then we’re gonna win you start checking those boxes it’s gonna get awfully hard if if it’s ugly it’s over in Dallas you know what I mean if it’s ugly tonight it they’re gonna come out and I know you think well nobody ever comes out knowing that they’ve lost but you you get down three and you you lose at home you can kind of feel this has gotten away from us I I think that they would come out feeling like they were done in in game four so I at a minimum I mean I think they have to win but at a minimum they have to they have to be in this game the entire time if I could pick something I want to happen I want Kyrie to go to bananas tonight yeah I would like to see Kyrie have one of those Kyrie kind of nights where everything falls you know the easy passes are are he takes the easy pass but he attacks the rim and does the thing that when Kyrie is on he does just to kind of turn up a little bit another storyline in this series because the storylines remain the same poringa is healthy they look good Tatum letting the game come to him and Jaylen Brown being a star you know and I I’d like to see something else added to this Kyrie’s certainly capable of it and this is the kind of moment that he seems to have always enjoyed and if he can do that they might not have to win theight but if Kyrie plays as well add a little bit more volume to Friday night but if he doesn’t show and he and he doesn’t fulfill his narrative that he had tried to change this might be some kind of stink that he never gets off of I mean this might be the chance not just for him to Define himself as a player but Define how we look at him like are you a flat earther are you that guy or are you a guy that shows up and helps his team win in any way possible I mean that’s what that’s what it’s going to boil down to here so I I think the Mavs get the job done tonight I do too um again I don’t know that it matters for the the grand scheme but that it if if it gets to 22 and and we’re dealing with that what’s what’s it called the reticulum whatever I mean if we’re looking at porzingis as weird injury night after night after night yeah I’ve said this before about Jason Tatum and it doesn’t sound good when I say it but it’s just a fact Jason Tatum so far in his career is is a loser and finds a way to lose even when the biggest expectations are that he will win he has proven time and again he will find a way to lose if he lets the Mavericks breathe I’m not I’m not GNA feel confident I so even if if they can if they can win this game they’re halfway to to tying up the series boy if they get to 22 I’m GNA suddenly be feel really good if I’m a Mavericks fan because I I’m going up against a guy who’s had a history of losing big big games a really nice guy who just doesn’t live up to the moment doesn’t seem to be now Jaylen Brown’s different animal even though he hasn’t won yet either it just feels like he’s the one who’s playing so well in these big moments uh that’s scary you know the funny thing is I say it again when you know you look Dallas can win if that and this and that and all that you know we haven’t even gotten down to other guys on this on the Boston team that have played huge roles it’s funny that we can go through an entire conversation about how Boston will win and can win and we talk about Jaylen Brown and we talk about Jason Tatum Drew holiday continues to be left off this list though he left LED them in scoring in the last game and did everything appropriate to win there’s still Derek white who’s capable of doing remarkable things on this Court Boston is just so freaking deep that if those first two dos don’t show up they got two more in line that can and Dallas just doesn’t have that yep that’s said yeah you’re his first year they were headed to the playoffs and they’re like you no he’s not pitching in the playoffs it’s like what you got a chance to win a World Series what are you doing and eventually they were rewarded because they won a World Series with him and that that made it all worth a while but which was the Pinnacle of strawberg career guy through smoke couldn’t stay healthy then you’ve got Mitch Keller who’s another young stud 316 ER uh and Jared Jones 327 erra when you got three guys like that nobody wants to play you in a short series well they’re gonna have to be good for us to see him I mean uh some of these other young studs the pitcher for the Cubs at least he’s on the Cubs a team that that’s on national TV I mean not quite the same but it’s the same at least I get to see him I can find him on TV I don’t have any service bring Pirates games you’re gonna start seeing nationally televised Pirates games when SK is throwing like I I think that he’s gonna I I think we are looking at a Phenom something that rarely comes around in baseball um but I I think the story the fact that this guy was pitching in in college baseball a year ago and is just kind of saying I minor leagues who needs the minor leagues you said something um he initially signed out of high school he’s a California Kid yep to the Air Force Academy yeah which tells me he didn’t think nor did any of the scouts think he had Pro potential you don’t go to the academy to go play pro baseball you go to the academy to get a great degree and go take care of our country had he had a 476 uh 4.76 GPA not er uh when he graduated high school so I I think that this is he’s a bright guy certainly uh comes from a military family which I I think could have had something to do with it this the the the plot lines for this guy so he’s he chose the military first he’s got a military family he’s dating his own Instagram model he seems to be an All-American guy like a story that is ready to be told to the nation and well when he when he was at uh at the Air Force Academy won the John olude award as the nation’s best two-way player and so that was after his sophomore year and he said you know what I’m gonna hit the old transfer portal goes to LSU shows up at LSU what’s he do uh just broke Ben McDonald’s SEC record for strikeouts in a single season 203 strikeouts in a season won the national pitcher of the Year award won the College World Series named The College World Series most outstanding player number one pick in the draft and here we are already I mean this is this is wild man normally it’s about four years but remember when he was first round draft back in 2020 you know oh yeah I remember him now he’s good this guy was good when he walked on the field now you his motion his style is this the thing that can is he a is he a stay healthy looking kind of a pitcher does he have a motion that you start to get a little concerned about he’s built to stay healthy uh uh he he is a he’s not a small fella um 11 pitches yesterday over rided 100 miles an hour yeah dude just throws gas anytime somebody’s thr I mean I I think he’s gonna have an elbow surgery at some point because that’s just the way pitching works when you throw hard you you have elbow surgery at some point um but it’s wild that this dude they when they they put him in rookie ball back in August and they said he’s going to be on very limited pitches because he threw so much in college and I mean it just didn’t last they just they were like oh we can’t we can’t keep holding this guy back uh pitched started the 2024 season in Triple A 27 in a third Innings 45 strikeouts 99 erra and then it’s it’s like well how do you how do you keep this guy in the Min what’s the point and I know people say like service time and things like that but it’s like dude yeah you’re gonna be paying this guy through the nose you don’t worry about service time just go Ahad and bring him up and when’s the last time by the way the Pirates were in any kind of like position where you say you know what let’s go for it yeah you should be going for it you want the Pirates need to get people out to their ballpark they need to have interest in their team the last time the Pirates were even part was wiie stardel and Dave Parker baby I’m talking late 70s about Barry Bonds and Bobby B that was a brief flash in the pan Bobby how long was Bobby Bo there I don’t know three years and as soon as yeah both of them when they get when they had a chance at the big money one one goes to the Mets one goes to the GI I forgotten about that combo then that was what about early 90s early 90s yeah that was a brief Shining Moment they were pretty solid uh it was like what was the guy’s name um dreck dou dreck had like a wish the Pirates would be good I they’re one of the the Pirates are like the Royals to me their franchises that even like I I whatever team you’re a fan of you look at some teams and go it’d be nice if that team could have some success they’ve been through a a lot of lean Years be nice if they had something nice every night when the Royals won the World Series I was like good for them what what a story The Royals I’m sure until uh Spurs 99 good for you guys until they started winning a bunch of them like people were like oh that’s great for the Spurs you can’t win too much when you’re one of
