8th Pick, San Antonio Spurs | 2024 Mock Draft
welcome back into the mock draft for grind City media for this year’s NBA draft it’s a familiar face Noah marara George is here with us again because the Spurs not only had the fourth but they’ve got the eighth so we’re going to continue talking um Noah just to set the scene in case someone missed your first video uh you picked Rob Dillingham in that fourth spot after the Spurs went 22 and 60 second worst record in the Western Conference we talked a lot about building around wemi and I think that’s something that everyone’s going to agree on because he is a keom um so let’s go down into the eighth spot this is a really cool um spot to be in a really cool opportunity for the Spurs because you have two top 10 picks um in a draft where it’s not like determined predetermined who’s going to go where so you really have a pick of the litter of what you want and what you need um we talked about Rob Dillingham and what he adds what other part of the game do you think the Spurs want to add to start to build around Wy absolutely so I mean we talked about offense that they needed some self-creation they needed Advantage creation but they were also pretty bad on the defensive end like they have some good defensive pieces we saw soan look good on the perimeter against bigger Wings we saw obviously what wimy brings to the table as a generational Defender rim protector but outside of those two guys there wasn’t a ton of consistency across the board like Trey Jones is a good point of attack Defender but he’s really small he can’t make that much of an impact Blake Wesley had some nice moments but pretty inconsistent still young you had guys like Julian champeny who were just really solid but they weren’t really defensive Playmakers not forcing turnovers really just solid in their role but outside of them really there wasn’t a lot of great Defenders so I think the Spurs really need to shore up the defensive end because it can’t just just be wimy and obviously you take a guy like Rob Dillingham with that fourth pick he’s going to compromise your defense a little bit so you need guys who can help him out who can help wimy out and I think for the Spurs they need to be shooting for someone here who can make a legitimate impact on the defensive end and I really like Ron Holland here I don’t know if anybody else is going to agree with me but I really love Ron Holland he’s top five on my big board so the fact that he slipped to eight I think if you’re the Spurs you’re really happy to snatch him up off the board here so that’s going to be my pick with the eighth overall pick they’re taking Ron Holland I actually really like this pick uh for a number of reasons one he is 18 years old so like the room to grow is out of this world a super high ceiling he’s six7 about 200 pounds what I most like about him and of course he is a great two-way player he will be good on the defensive end he has such a high motor he’s so athletic he gives absolutely th% every minute he is on the floor yeah and that is really one of the Hallmarks of Ron Holland even going back to high school I think it fluctuated a little bit in the g- League this season the G league night as if anybody was watching the CH leag ignite this season sorry to them but really really bad season for them as a whole I think the context there for him was really poor he had a lot of really young guys they had veterans who were supposed to be with them all season who dropped off of the team who signed elsewhere I think they at one point only had like three or four wins towards the end of the season Once their schedule was wrapping up and just not a great place for them this year and the program shut down like this program is not going to be anything that exists anymore so I think you look at Ron Holland individually not only did he go from a guy who was mostly interior oriented in high school and a guy who wasn’t necessarily the primary ball handler but he went to being that in high school to playing against grown men being the number one option being their best Advantage Creator being someone who was willing to step out to the perimeter take threes not only just off the catch but off the dribble he was someone who was creating his own shots so I really like that he was going out of his comfort zone and even though the percentages weren’t really great in the half court I think the context is something that we absolutely have to mention because it wasn’t good it wasn’t a good context and I think being scaled down into a smaller role next to Wim Yama next to Vel next to soan next to other guys in that starting lineup which is probably where he’s going to be for the Spurs I think he’s going to look a lot better so I’m really confident in him going forward and as you mentioned being super young I think he has a lot of upside that is untapped at the moment I like that you brought up the context because when you look at his numbers he had uh 20 points per game seven rebounds two assists two steals like he’s very active but you’re right if you look at the percentages he’s not necessarily considered a great shooter yes he is very athletic yes he has a high motor yes he’s going to try and yes he is good offensively creating advantages and that’s one thing that we talked about with Rob Dillingham and number four he one of those guys who can kind of create their own offense Ron Holland’s percentages are not great shooting wise could that get better because he is 18 years old because he was in a program that essentially shut down and is no longer and so you kind of question like you know you question a lot of things around that season sure um I think I think you answered the question that I was even gonna ask I don’t think the the the lack of shooting percentage wise is something that you’re scared of no and I think I don’t know if he’ll ever be a plus shooter I think if you’re the Spurs you’re hoping he just becomes a League average shooter off the catch and that’s his swing skill right shooting is his swing skill I don’t know that he’s ever going to be a guy who averages 20 points per game again like once he gets to the NBA but I like him because I think he can be a really good cutter The Cutting numbers were really good even though the volume was kind of low because he was mostly on ball this season but I also really like the playmaking like you look at the assists and turnovers he had more turnovers than assists obviously the assist to turnover ratio wasn’t great but I think he showed some legitimate flashes of being able to catch off the rip you know just go into those drives he’s got a lot of burst he’s an Above the Rim athlete and so guys when they were rotating over and help he was able to make that just simple read to one man away uh he was also an unselfish extra passer where he’s catching it on the perimeter he sees the guy next to him as a better shot quick swing so I think he can be a guy who can be a better passer and even have some secondary or tertiary ball handling responsibilities but again I think just seeing him scale down where he’s not the main scorer where it’s not all that pressure on him to create every single night to be that guy I think he’ll look a lot better and I think it’ll help his transition into the NBA for sure I like it to you talked me into it you’ve talked me into I’ve always let Holland you talked me into him going to the Spurs I think it is a good match uh Noah this is gonna be the last time we talk about this draft together I’m so sad um but of course you can catch Noah we you’ll he’ll be tagged in this tweet and you can catch all of his uh work that he does with the Spurs because I think the Spurs although they had a not a great season it’s only up from here the young team it is only up so I’m really excited to see what the Spurs do uh come draft and next season and I want to thank you so much for your time for both of these videos of course and thank you for having me always love talking basketball with you

I would like see spurs draft dillingham for sure with number 4 pick and ron Holland 8 or maybe even Darren homes 2 who i think would be insane at power forward next to wemby i actually think darron homes 2 might become a star
Na aint not way spurs pass on nikola at 8💯pop gonna teach that kid in Serbian how to be the best manu 2.0 version for the spurs 💯🙌🙏him and rob dillingham=parker 2.0 gonna take wemby's game out of this world 💯 two best pg's to pair with wemby/spurs
After making a bad pick of Rob Dilingham at #4, you compound that by taking on Holland at 8.
The best picks for the Spurs would be Zacharrie Risacher or Stephon Castle at 4, and Cody Willams or Tidjane Salaun at 8.
The Spurs need players that can play defense and shoot. Popovich places a high priority on defense/
Matas at 4, Dilly will be there at 8. However, Holland may be the sleeper in the long run
