Designing a team that can play like this

I know I am going to get shat on for posting a Celtics video…but watching the Finals and learning about the subtleties in this video really opened my eyes on how a fluid offence can look. It's more than just ball movement, it's learning to play fluidly within Xs and Os and adjusting as you go. The key is counter attacks based on how the defence adjusts.

This is beautiful offence:

I'd really much rather have a collection of good two way players with high IQ who can run sets like this over a third aging star like PG.

Additionally:

  • We have one of the best coaches in the league
  • We have unselfish/ coachable superstars in Maxey and Embiid
  • We see the value of high IQ guys like Lowry and Batum and I hope we can retain at least Batum
  • Joel is a gravitational force within himself

What makes me doubtful that we can build a team like this:

  • Morey is a very arrogant GM and might still go after a third star
  • Ownership is very hands on and might back up Morey's strategy of "big name moves"
  • To get to the level of chemistry as seen in the video above will require years of playing together and Joel never had that, let a lone there's literally 3 players under contract in our roster at the moment
  • Guys like Caruso are coveted for reasons like this but are unavailable

Don't go to harsh on me guys, I am just posting my wish for what type of team I would like to see.

You’re not wrong for wanting a team like this, but the fundamental difference between us and Boston is they have two great 2-way wings that don’t get injured. It’s absolutely the most important and hardest position to find

I’d say an elite center on both ends is also on par, *but he can never stay healthy*. The problem with wanting a similar team is 1) NO team wants to trade young, athletic, two-way wings away which leads to 2) all our targets being old af or having their flaws.

I don’t even think it’s a Morey arrogance thing, even if he opts not to go for “big names”, whose left to fit the bill? It’d be maxing OG or something, or we take gambles on some under utilized players when Joel’s knees are dusted

Ultimately we didn’t get enough hits in the draft. It’s the only way to build a sustainable team, and getting absolutely nothing from 16-20 drafts destroyed us.

  2. Okay so 5 all stars, 3 all nba types and a budding all star in Derrick White. Oh and we will get them for cheap just like the Celtics did, we’re on it.
