The Raptors Could Be Planning An Even BIGGER Trade At The NBA Draft

according to recent NBA reports the Toronto Raptors could be planning to make a major trade and move into the lottery of the 2024 NBA draft and over the course of this video we’re going to try and figure out if this is actually the right move for the team let’s get into it last week on this channel we spoke about the possibility of the Raptors making a major trade on draft night specifically at the end of the first round moving into the second round because if you don’t already know the first and second round of the NBA draft this season are going to be on separate days and the Raptors who have the 31st overall pick are going to have the first pick on the second day of the NBA draft giving them basically a full night and a full day to try and maneuver and make a trade to acquire something that would give them a further strengthening of assets rather than actually using that 31st overall pick obviously this could be a key move for the team to acquire some extra assets but the Raptors may choose to sacrifice some additional assets in order to actually move up in the first round of the draft specifically into the late stages of the lottery picks according to Kevin o Conor who is a very reputable NBA Source the Toronto Raptors amongst other teams are really trying to move up in the draft right now specifically for the Raptors they’re trying to move into the late stages of the lottery and we need to figure out number one if this is the right move for the team and if this is actually realistic for messiah jer’s front office to pull off we’re going to have all those answers by the end of today’s video right here on Amateur hour Sports the YouTube channel dedicated to Toronto Rapids content in live streams and videos just like this if you enjoy this one along the way make sure you drop a like and consider subscribing as well because you’ll get more content just like the on you’re seeing if you’re already like it you’ll like the other ones we have coming out help us on a road to 18,000 subscribers so it’s not unlike Messiah Yuri to really test the waters when it comes to moving up in the draft or just any player is available you can expect a phone call from aai Yuri just to see what the valuation is just to see if he can cut a deal you know Messiah jurri is always trying to cut a deal and in this situation that deal could be to move into the latter stages of the lottery so typically when it comes to actually trading to move up in the draft that usually comes with a cost of not just one pick but two first round picks typically even if it is somewhat marginal amount the Raptors moving up from the 19th overall pick into what we would think is an 11th or 12th or 13th overall pick typically it does come at the cost of an additional first round pick on top of the one you’re already Giving Up So for the Raptors in situation my guess would be that they’re going to be trading the 19th overall pick along with the Indiana Pacers pick of 2026 which they acquired in the Pascal cakam deal that’s usually the type of cost the Raptors or any team would have to make to move up in the draft I don’t really see the Raptors having the player Assets in order to make this trade-up happen so I’m assuming it would be again that 19th overall pick for this season via the Indiana Pacers and the 2026 first round pick also via the Indiana Pacers both of which again acquired in that Pascal seatt aam trade so the Raptors if they were going to make this trade up would have to see somebody that they really like in this position here and judging by the draft for this season it’s widely known this is one of the weaker draft classes and the more I really learn about the players involved in this draft specifically the players involved even in like the top five or six picks Yeah the more it becomes apparent that this isn’t one of the stronger draft classes so the types of players that they would have to be available in that area I’m not sure if they’re eyeing a jacobe Walter Maybe they really want to go and get Zach Ed and feels the late stage of the lottery is where they’re going to have to be able to get him maybe a player like Ron Holland is falling a little bit maybe Matas melus is falling a little bit more than maybe people expect at this present point the Raptor would have to really love a prospect in this position and based on my analysis of the draft so far I really started to go in depth in the first round as you get closer to the late June NBA draft and honestly it just doesn’t really feel like there is a significant Gulf in class between the players that are going to be available around 19th overall and the players that are going to be involved in the late stage of the lottery and in order to get a lottery pick you may feel as though look you know maybe they’re going to get a pick that’s in the late Lottery it’s not going to cost them the 19th overall pick maybe it’s not going to be moving up in the first round maybe it’s going to be acquiring another pick for the first round maybe that’s the 31st overall pick and a future first round pick but the valuation just isn’t really there in that situation here and again when you look at at the players available there like yes no like no matter how no matter what like the more you move up especially earlier on in the draft you’re more likely to find a better player when we’re talking about the first round here the further up you go typically the better you are suited to find a better player in those positions I just don’t really see that this year and honestly in most years even in stronger draft classes you just don’t really see that significant of a difference maybe from a guy in the 12th to 13 position compared to the guy in the 19th overall position other years maybe it makes more sense but for this season it really doesn’t make sense and what adds on to the lack of sense in this whole report here is the way that dark rakovich specifically has been talking about the 2025 and the 2026 NBA drafts because he said like in the recent weeks he’s spoken about how it very much feels as though at least he but maybe perhaps the rest of the Raptors organization feels though the 2025 class and the 2026 class are going to be very strong draft classes so what would add on to the lack of sense in this situation is the Raptors who would likely sacrifice a pick in one of those two drafts in order to make this trade happen to move up in the 2024 draft for a draft they’ve already established one of the weaker classes like they’ve already established a weak class the reason Bruce Brown is still a Toronto Raptor is because at the trade deadline they were Fielding trades but all the trades involved first round picks for 2024 they did not want 2024 picks they wanted future draft picks nobody was offering that at the time for Bruce Brown now that may change this summer hopefully it does change the Raptors can acquire pick for either 2025 or 2026 in order to strengthen their positions for what they have already deemed as a stronger draft class and they have already deemed this draft class to be one of the weaker ones because they did not want any picks for 2024 so with all that in mind here the Raptors just it just does not seem apparent to me that they would make a trade up in this situ ation number one like it’s just not worth it for the caliber players available in the late stages of the lottery picks in the top 14 number two Darko has made it pretty clear that the Raptors organization covets the draft picks and the player pool available for 2025 and 2026 and the Raptors themselves have already pretty much established that they don’t really fancy this 2024 class nearly as much because they refus to really make a trade for a pick in this year’s draft class so what this situation is it feels like every year the Raptors are in these reports to trade up in the draft and I’m not suggesting that they’re not I’m not suggesting that at all I I I I would trust a source like Kevin oconor in this situation however what is likely true is that the Raptors are just seeing what’s out there Messi’s making the phone calls because you know what it’s likely going to cost is two first round picks like I said the 19th pick this year a 2026 pick via the Indiana Pacers but what msiri is doing is probably just making these phone calls trying to get a much better trade than that and seeing if anybody is going to bite on that you know Messiah jiri like I said earlier he’s always going to make that phone call he’s always going to try and cut a deal he’s always going to see if he can come out on top of a trade here it’s unlikely that’s going to be the case here and in this situation look maybe they’re trying but they’re not trying really hard and they’re not seriously pursuing a trade up overall in the draft and in this situation if the Raptors were to come out and trade up into the draft lottery well first of all I’d look really silly for this video here but also I’d be extraordinarily surprised and I feel like you should be as well it’s a fun report here but my full expectation is Raptors are drafting with the 19th overall pick and are drafting with the 31st overall pick I feel less confident about the second round one but very confident that the Raptors will be using that 19th overall pick and nothing else in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft we’ll have to wait and see but what do you think about this whole situation do you think they will make a trade to trade up in the draft Lottery and do you believe that would be worth it give me your thoughts and opinions in the comments down below because that is it for me for today drop a like if you enjoyed this video subscribe to 1. Pls not Holland, Salaun or Buzelis…. would much rather have Carter, Williams, da Silva, or Holmes

  2. Houston is aggressively shopping #3

Bruce brown + 19 + 31 for #3 and salary filler are they considering it? πŸ€”

  3. Bruce brown could realy sure up Houston defense.. Him and Dillon Brooks would give Houston a nice duo.. especially when Brooks got into Foul trouble. Raps get # 3 je'sean Tate and Fillers Houston gets Bruce brown #19 and future protected first Salaun is the Raps pick here… Raps coilf also do a trade with Memphis at Number 9. or Detroit at 5

  4. An average of 3 players make all nba teams per draft. Theres a good chance that this draft has some elite talent. This is a good year for the raptors to steal someone with all the confusion around whos better and worse.

  5. I'm so tired about hearing how this draft is so weak u can't possibly know who will thrive in the NBA or who will fail

  6. I think they are trying to trade pick 31 and Bruce brown to move up to 24-25 pick from the Knicks. That’s the play here.

  7. The only reason I’d even consider moving up into the lottery would be to guarantee you getting Cody Williams or Jared McCain.
