BOSTON CELTICS WIN 18TH NBA CHAMPIONSHIP πŸ† ‘Boston has a champion mindset!’ – Perk | NBA Today

[Music] the city of Champions now stands alone as the winningest franchise in basketball the Boston Celtics they were crowned last night so let’s head to TD Garden and take a look back at how exactly they got it done in this game five on the anniversary Kendrick Perkins of the 2008 title so let’s pick it up with 230 left here off the Jaylen Brown Miss Drew holiday this is what he done all series hustle plays Jason Tatum all 5050 balls and JT not settling getting downhill with four 69 6 10 wide shoulders get to the paint but it’s not just how you start it’s how you finish quarters essentially a minute cookies the Celtics went on a 90 run to close the first quarter chenet yeah they played with Force it’s not just on offense on defense this was a two-way complete game by the Boston Celtics turnovers really hurt the Dallas Mavericks but Jason TL prisoners he’s letting the crowd know they were getting fired up at this point Brian yeah absolutely they’re they’re they’re chasing the O I felt I felt that one they teach first one to the floor and I know Derrick White said he’d give up all his teeth for a championship but that one looked like it had to hurt smile Cheese hours of dental work today I mean Derek white doing Derek white thing laying it all out on the line for his team it’s funny though champagne it dulls the pain it does it does Jason Tatum oh in and out going to work over Luca donic kicks it back out to his running mate Jaylen Brown that’s the underrated aspect of his game that he perfected over the course of this entire season he was truly a playmaker in the first half but it’s how they closed this half with the bang shall we say Mike Breen had the perfect call 4 seconds to go missed free throw for for the rebound here’s Pritchard he loves these puts it up half court of the buzzer bang Pritchard at the buzzer with a three-pointer there is a God there is a God and his name is BR b b like P PR like unreal right unreal like just comes in the game ain’t been in the game and just drains one from half court that dude’s a he’s a he’s a legend man we saw it in game two we saw it again in game five so to the fourth quarter we go here Jaylen Brown dishes it out to Chris porzingis who was back in Action who slammed down there playing the dunker spot JB doing a great job of attacking and feeding the big fella when he draw two drives finishes here the Boston Celtics crowd starting to feel it Jason Tatum beginning to celebrate with his teammates porzingis he would leave to a standing ovation JT saying let me know what you got this was really cool though Kyrie Irving congratulating every member of the Boston Celtics deuce and Tatum celebrating Al Warford finally gets his ring and Jaylen Brown the finals MVP let’s take a listen to Joe Missoula and the Boston Celtics it was a joy watching the guys uh just grow as a team throughout the year but also like really work at it you know like there’s a group of guys in that locker room that decided they wanted to win on day one and uh they worked at it every single day and crit credit to them all those moments where we we came up short we felt like we let the city down we feel like we let ourselves down all of that compiled is how we get to this moment so you know and it makes it feel even that much better that we had to go through all the the journey the Heartbreak the embarrassment the loss to get to this to get to the mountain top these last seven years have been a roller coaster up and down I had to listen to all the people said about me and tonight it was worth it oh my God since you won one of those 18 titles with them I’m going to turn to you in the words of Jason Tatum what are they going to say now now that they’ve won well it’s it’s all positive things and you talked about city of Champions but I’m going to go a little further and talk about the organization that build winners right the the organization of winners just think about this for a second you look at Joe Missoula taking over at at 35 years old doing it his way trusting his system getting the guys to buy in now one of the youngest head coaches to win the NBA championship think Bill Russell right look at the the everything coming inle that’s what we call it so then then you think about Charles Lee right getting a job over there at the Charlotte Hornets you want success you come to the to the organization of the Boston Celtics christop porzingis his team they were trash last year with the Washington Wizards a trash organization uh uh you you looking at all these guys come over and they’re having this success right now but this is one of I think you got to put it in the top five category when you talk about NBA championships in Boston Celtics history they’re they’re this is one of the top five this team had so many bumps along the way and I think in the current NBA where you see so much add instant ingredients and expect the recipe to just work the Boston Celtics in many ways were the antithesis of that they let this bake they gave it some time and Jason Tatum told me at Allstar that he thought this team was better than the team they had in 2022 but why was it this team Brian that was able to get there and win this so I thought the way this game played out which was not a itive game but the way the game played out if you looked at it was sort of a celebration of what the Celtics had to get to this had to go through to get to this point you saw Jason and Jaylen working together you saw Tatum driving to the basket when his outside shot wasn’t working you saw when when they struggled early in the game they played tight we’ve seen them play tight well who rescued them in the first few minutes of the game Drew holiday you saw Al Horford who came back and and and was a leader on this team because porzingis been banged up you saw porzingis come in off Off the Bench which was really a defining part of this uh of this this series everything about this game was reminiscent of what they’ve gone through and it’s so appropriate that they had to walk away off their home court two years ago and watch somebody else celebrate and now they got to celebrate on their home court it was really kind of perfect all the way down to the the 617 date and even the analogy was perfect Jaylen Brown said earlier in the series hey we have to graduate and it feels like they finally got to commencement where they’re able to go off with this new generation of Celtic stars I love that that’s the same thing we felt graduating college or graduating high school you’re in this new era Where You Feel Like Anything is Possible pun intended right but when I look at the squad I love it because the pieces were not perfect but they fit together so well they’re an array of Allstars that have different Journeys a lot of people have preconceived notions about what Jaylen Brown could do people talk about his left hand right Jason Tatum what he can do can he close Drew holiday will he be the piece that they really need St presing is he going to be healthy enough he wasn’t healthy enough but he still showed up on the floor and made his impact count count Joe moula Young coach will this work will the vision of the analytics really come to fruition but instead when it mattered most they just played harder and I love that because you saw how they lost themselves in the team don’t you say that all the time in that final commencement moment they lost themselves in the team and it was a beautiful moment for basketball but because this is a a medle a mosaic an ensemble type of Team there there was only really one question right when we were getting down to it at the end of the game as halftime hit who was going to win Finals MVP here’s how the voting broke down last night seven votes went to Jaylen Brown four votes including my own went to Jason Tatum take a listen to both Celtics Stars after Brown took home the award it could have gone to anybody it could have gone to Jason um Jason like I can’t talk enough about his selflessness you know I can’t talk enough about his his attitude and his just how he approached not just this series or the finals but just the playoffs in general um and we did it together as a team um and and that was the most important thing we didn’t care who who got Finals MVP uh I know that I I need him through this journey and and you know he needs me uh so to you know it was great to see him have that moment and share that moment with him uh I’m I’m extremely happy for him well deserved uh that was that was big time he he earned that all right CH I’m not going to lie to you I went back and forth back and forth down to the wire because because Brown’s defense on Luca was something that I thought a lot about in this one but something I kept cing circling back to was Tatum leading his team in points rebounds assists in the finals and then 318 and 11 to close out that performance so did the voters and I’m including myself in this get it right look I’m being transparent over the course of me being an NBA analyst it’s been hard for me to pick sides right so I would my inclination is to be like split the trophy in half give one to each guy but I am cool with this result because what separated me with Jaylen Brown winning finals MVP is he made his impact when it mattered the most literally I go back to game three where he was the score was 198 give me the ball move out of the way let me score I know it’s not fair to put into context the other you know games we’ve seen in the series but that clutch three versus the Pacers in game one I think imprinted on our minds but most importantly it was a sound we heard when he was miked up saying hey if Luca’s in I’m in I want that assignment in game one we saw him picking up full court LCA donic slowing him down tiring him out and that is what changed the course of the series you look at Luca’s numbers he led the postseason in points and rebounds and assists it was not easy in the finals it was truly disrupted it wasn’t allowing the hottest team in basketball to really get off and that was Jaylen Brown’s large doing and that’s why I’m cool with it Jaylen Brown woke us up and reminded us what two-way players all about throughout this entire post season one could argue that he was the best defensive player in this postseason I know he got two others on the side of him and Drew holiday and Derek white but what he did to Luca in the finals right Luca shot w 11 for 25 against him when he was the primary defender on top of that he has joined Elite company Elite company and that’s joic and Steph the only guys to have the Conference Finals MVP a championship and the finals MVP the Larry Bird award award the Bill Russell award and the Larry Bryant award a trophy is all at Jaylen Brown’s home right now right now he’s the top 10 player in the leag you talk about what he did in game three and those clutch buckets I’m looking at him setting the tone since game one picking up Luca 94t ripping them twice the shot blocking at the basket what he did in this series what he did in the Indiana series it woke me up to appreciate the other side of the back other end of the floor even more and I cannot name 10 players that I would take over Jaylen brown right now today I there were no losers in the MVP vote no it wasn’t the it was totally solid vote either way and actually I don’t remember ever where there was actual genuine suspense the building for the vot I actually thought that was kind of cool and like I did you think Adam was the only person on the stage who knew because sometimes it’s like implied I don’t think they knew idea there was definitely a moment for me of okay we’re going to lean in and and find out together I thought that was great and really symbolic of the Celtics team because I actually if somebody had voted for Drew holiday I would have that’s how you would have gotten your split the you got the five and five cuz holiday was huge in this series not as not as impactful statistically as other two guys that’s how they won this Championship they won the championship with the two of them working together and when it was 74 or 65 or 55 and one or whatever that was emblematic of the way that they played and look if you were around Jason Tatum all after this game I know what he said to you the day before the game about how he wanted the MVP and I do believe that and I do believe in his heart of hearts he wishes but as a competitor you want everything you can possibly get but there’s no way you were around Jason Tatum after this absolutely no and didn’t experience the joy he was having he did not care inous it was infectious the joy that he had after winning it all and he said that ultimately that was his goal I will say I don’t think since Andrea gadala was named Finals MVP was there this like okay who maybe the ad LeBron a little in but really since Andre Galo was there this level of like who is it going to be how is this going to go down and although Jason Tatum he won’t be putting the finals MVP trophy on his mantle this time around Jan he’s got to frame this one yes something tells me this photo with Deuce it needs to be put up there Goosebumps crazy thing is when you win a championship that’s the first that’s the first person or people you search for Is your amazing work here from the legendary NBA photographer Nat Butler want to try to what I look [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

  1. Perk's got no shame! You never were significant in the time of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnet. Great Job "CELTICS"!!! Enjoy that big piece of "HUMBLE PIE" Perkins!! Don't forget that Diet Coke! β˜˜οΈπŸ€β˜˜οΈ

  2. I 'm not a fan of either team, so I have no dog in the race. But, lets not forget, Boston had the easiest and luckiest road ever to the Finals. All the teams they fought against and even uber strong teams in other conferences outside the Celtics path are marred by injuries. 76ers, Knicks, Pacers, Heat, Bucks, Cavs – All their stars/superstars were injured. And the Mavs had to go through the gauntlet, and are relatively banged up compared to Boston. The West essentially softened up the Mavs, and Celts coasted the East. This is the worst play-offs season I've seen in recent memory. I would rather see Boston beat the upper mentioned teams at full strength than see then coast through the East. I hope next year's play-offs is better, and that Boston beat those teams at their strongest, so people like me are entertained and shut-up.

  3. That was the most luckiest championship run in the history of the NBA. I mean when you’re not playing against Jimmy Butler/Terry Rozier, Jared Allen/Donovan Mitchell Tyrese Halliburton Anything is possible

  4. No offense, but how does Malika have a vote & Stephen A Smith, Brian Windhorst, Doris Burke, Tim Legler & etc don’t?? For Finals MVP??

  5. I'd like to understand how the Celtics can afford those A-list players?… they got a 300 million dollar player and about to have another one.. Derrick White it's not cheap either along with his backcourt mate.. and I know Al horford ain't playing for the minimum.. then you have the unicorn.. how are they affording this?.. the Lakers don't have one 300 million player and the Celtics have two..and LA is close to the cap… really??.. they say the Timberwolves we'll have to make difficult decisions.. really??.. the Celtics have to be getting blasted by the cap.

  6. That's what I said, this year celtics is way better than 2022. Am so happy Al horford he finally get the ring πŸ’ πŸ™Œ celtics we love ❀

  7. Pritchard was fouled hard afffff should’ve been 4 points but poster boy Luka can do that all game πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚but still lost

  8. Jaylen brown was clearly the best player in the Celtics in this series. It’s not surprising that Malika voted for the lighter one of the duo.

  9. Why IN THE FAWWWWKK DOES Malika "ew" Andrews have a finals MvP vote!?? πŸ€” smh tf the nba doing out here bro

  10. That photo of Jayson and Deuce…πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯pic of the Finals
