the Mavericks were huge underdogs before the finals but people refused to believe it literally the 04 pistons and 19 Raptors pulled off bigger upsets but Luc is better than all of those even a one-legged Kawai but it didn’t matter against the deeper more talented Celtics so the Mavericks were actually like the 2015 Cavaliers LeBron James was easily the best player in those finals but got beat by the deeper more talented Warriors so does Luca have to bounce around like LeBron to finally win a chip the answer is actually not that obvious you have to know what the future of the NBA looks like but the Celtics actually did it back on top with the most championships of any NBA franchise and I’m sorry anybody picking the Mavs to win we’re just rooting way too hard for Luca and Kyrie obviously before the series we picked rosters like a playground six of the top eight guys were wearing green people got confused at how easy their road to the finals was and forgot that Elite depth actually matters the M’s third best player was Derek Lively seriously the youngest guy to ever play in the NBA Finals that’s ridiculous and there will be a lot of talk about who won finals MVP but I agree with Bob Meyers finals MVP was actually Brad Stevens this rebuild took 11 full years Stevens became the head coach in 2013 and they traded Paul Pearson Kevin Garnett for a ton of players and picks that became Jason Tatum and Jaylen brown but what do you do around that big two the obvious strategy is hey add a third star it’s what the’ 08 Celtics did around Paul Pierce with Garnett and Ray Allen the Miami big three so the Kyrie experiment failed but for years Boston was linked to every big name on the market Kawai one year then Anthony Davis then Paul George but Danny a never quite pulled the trigger so he stepped down in 2021 and Stevens moved to the front office and last off season he did two things that won them this chip first was trade for christops porzingis and sign him to a pay cut extension and it seems like a no-brainer now but they had to trade away Marcus Smart and Not only was he the 2022 defensive player of the year but people called him the heart and soul of the team I mean how you going to deal Your Leader when Jason Tatum isn’t even that vocal it actually took a lot of guts to do and it turns out KP was in the perfect spot to join this team he entered the NBA as a star in New York City the first guy to ever be called a unicorn but after years of misery he just wanted to win I mean he was constantly injured got to Dallas and had problems with it being Luca’s team KP thought of it as like a 1 a 1B situation uh no sorry sorry you are the robin then he goes to the Wizards for a year talk about being humbled so when he finally got to Boston he was like who cares Tatum’s team Browns team I just want to win and even when he dominated game one dude was okay coming off the bench for game two a perfect fit with his shooting and rim protection but they had to lose Marcus Smart’s perimeter defense so enter Drew holiday the Bucks are complete idiots for letting him go oh and they would never have traded him to the Celtics directly to help their biggest rival so instead they traded him to Portland for Damen Lillard oops and Steven swooped in getting him for Robert Williams Malcolm Brogden and two first round picks so the Celtics lost Marcus Smart but they got an even better version of him Drew is the most respected defender in the NBA by other players he was so good in game two especially 26 points 11 boards amazing defense and no turnovers think about it this way Drew holiday was the second best player on the Bucks championship team for Boston he was like the third or fourth but why did Brad Stevens build like this to withstand his Superstars limitations it really helped Brad Stevens being the coach for eight years he knows Tatum dude ain’t going to be unstoppable every night that’s not even who he is he’s not a Luca oneman offense but speaking of Luca the Mavs got exposed okay outside of him no one was consistent and coach Jason kid knew this after game one dude called Jaylen Brown the se’s best player to the media trying to get in their head ca a locker room fight it reminds you of when kid had his assistant run into him to spill water during a game kind of a desperate move can’t win normally so you try some wild stuff and part of the reason was Boston didn’t even have to double team Luca that much they’ve got three guys that can defend Luca one-on-one Jaylen Brown Jason Tatum and holiday now against Minnesota they had to double team Luca all the time so he could just lob it up to Derrik Lively or Daniel Gafford or Kyrie could take over but the Seas shut that down one of the few teams who could do it so Luca knows now he is good enough to win a championship but are the Mavericks the right team to get him there well going into next season he has two years left on his contract that gives them a chance to run it back with this group one more time then it gets real cuz Luca will be on an expiring contract and if he doesn’t resign every team will want him ESPN 24 hours a day where will Luca go so Dallas has to stop that Kyrie will be 32 years old next year Luca 25 around them are good role players but improving beyond that will be tough Dallas has one first round pick to trade till 2031 they’re also in the second apron which makes doing trades and buyouts and picks almost impossible possible if you’re in the second apron think about it like this the team is set with their current roster no more changes they’re good is that Dallas they just made the finals yeah but I mean the West is stacked the Thunder will be a year older Anthony Edwards is only getting better Denver will come back and here comes Victor Wim banama look I hate to be that guy who says oh Luca is going to demand a trade but we have to be realistic and talk about it if he really is LeBron in o 7 or 2015 with the Cavs maybe his current team isn’t good enough I mean they traded all their assets to get to this point there’s very few moves now after this but with the Celtics winning we now have six different champions in six years it is the most parody the NBA has seen since 1980 when the Lakers and Celtics dynasties took over with bird and Magic so can Boston actually break the cycle and go back to back well they have everyone coming back for one more season their starting five of Tatum Brown holiday Derek white and porzingis are under contract after that White’s a free agent and Tatum gets really expensive I mean dude just made all NBA meaning he’s got about 300 million coming his way so the new NBA makes it really tough to keep them together their biggest challenge next season will be the Denver Nuggets Nicole yic is still the best player in the world their front office will make changes but only Maverick fans and people who hate the Celtics thought Dallas was going to win this year Boston was just way too deep with too much experience to not finally get it done so what will Luca do in response and now we officially move on to the NBA draft just a few days from now the Hawks got the number one overall pick right so there are rumors that they might trade number one or it could mean something very bad for Trey Young
