When White and Tatum re-sign, the first guy with a contract up will be Porzingis in the 2026-2027 season.

This just means Hauser’s getting a bag from someone, will be interesting to see where he lands

Seemed obvious. As good as Jrue is, there was zero chance they chose to extend him *over* Derrick, unless the Celtics had an all-time collapse and the FO needed to figure out a way to retool and not commit all that money to the current roster.
Derrick also ascended with Mazzulla, so I doubt he would want to walk. Also helps that his dad is a minor celebrity on Celtics twitter and has been a lifelong fan.

DWhite is unironically our most impactful player. I hope he is a Celtic for life

Must be nice to have an owner who clearly doesn’t care much about paying luxury tax lol

What about Luke kornet?

Wait I heard there were big consequences for going over the vaunted “second apron”. Celtics must be on like the fifth apron minimum.

I’m almost there keep going

Now listen I’m certainly not complaining about it but how the hell do we have so much money especially if we get a Tatum extension done too???

Only 30mil/yr is a steal considering holiday will make the same and og could get 40

Please Brad extend the Buffalo. 🐃💰
Thank you.
International-Chef33
This extension was inevitable once Jrue got his. It’d be wild to extend the older Jrue and not get it done with White.

Genuine question. How do they afford all this?
AdComprehensive7879
wait, how can boston afford all of these players? did porzingis sign a discounted rate?

Nobody is talking about how this is a fortunate situation for the Celtics. Next year’s salary cap is going up 3.8%. That’s normal.
Once the TV deal is announced, it is all but certain that the cap will increase by the CBA maximum of 10% for a number of years in a row. This is an extremely rare situation where a GM can be highly confident in knowing *to-the-dollar* what the cap will be 5 years from now.
The Celtics will have two years of pain with extreme luxury tax and virtually no roster flexibility at all. But, two years into the new TV deal, the cap will be $187M which is higher than the second apron this year!
Signing a talented core in their primes to long term deals right before the cap goes up 10% per year every year for a bunch of years in a row is the ideal situation for any team.
Tatum’s new $315/5 contract may look extreme today. In 5 or possibly just 4 years, under the same super max contract rules, someone will sign a deal that exceeds $500/5.
From a GM’s perspective, this is the ideal time to sign veteran role players to long term deals. Towards the end of these contracts they will look like restricted minutes bench player salaries.

It would be a huge break for the Celtics if he agrees to extend. His extention is capped at about 170%, while in FA he would get far more

Lfg. I am curious how we get better this year tho. JB, JT, and White are all still improving. And our chemistry is as well.
JoJonesy
yeah we shouldn’t fuck around with this one lol. Derrick is worth the max we can give him right now
_NautyByNature
The Buffalo is worth it.
Significant_Slip_883
Wow is that true? I thought White can make way more in free agency than any extension Boston can offer him
Objective_Cod1410
Is there a third apron?

Can someone help me understand the NBA math?
Boston has $192 allocated next year. Jrue and Kristaps are both 30, JB is 50. That’s 110 and right now they have Tatum at 35 and Derrick White at 20.
Tatum is going to get a 5 year $315M contract extension this offseason. That’s 63M/yr which is 28 more than what he currently makes. How can Boston add $28M to their roster, bringing them up to $220M or 30 above the second apron of 190, and still be talking about giving Derrick White a new contract?
icewill36
their tax bill will be what exactly? under the new rules how can they afford big contracts for all these players ?

But Embiid told me we won’t be a dynasty because of the CBA??
