Houston Rockets Drafting Reed Sheppard⁉️
yo what’s going on guys this Houston Sports Talk Back another video today and today we’re going to be talking about the Houston Rockets potentially drafting Reed Shepard the NBA draft is a week away um well you know a week away a week from today the NBA draft second round will happen and the second round is which I’m really excited for this because the NBA has always been first round second round it’s in one night and you know if you don’t if you’re not an NFL fan NFL does separate it’s all separated well NFL’s five more rounds NFL is a seven round draft so it’s a little bit different than the NBA but the NFL they do the first round one night which is always the Thursday then the Friday the next Friday night is the second and third rounds and then the next day you have all the other rounds round uh four through seven which wouldn’t really mean anything in the NBA because there’s only two rounds in the NBA uh draft but then this year with the draft in a week in a week in a week week’s for today on 26th June 26 which is Wednesday so that’s six days away the first round will happen and then the next day which is a week from today the 27th which is my birthday um June 27th will be the second round and that’s going to be in the afternoon now the first round is in the night and then the afternoon is um the sorry and then the uh second rounds in the afternoon as much as these guys that are going to be picked in the second round deserve some acknowledge which I don’t think they really get when there’s already been 30 picks before in the first round I don’t think the second round is really something that should be televised at night but the fact that it’s being televised separately is great in one thing so but I think it’s going to be great so the draft is a week away the second round is a week away uh the first round is six days away it’s going to be very fun uh but the Rockets had the third overall pick and recently it’s been reported by B report and some other sources that the Rockets are seriously interested in drafting Reed Shepard from Kentucky with the third overall pick and look I’m seriously Honest by saying this I’ve been honest about this the whole time but in my opinion it’s draft Reed Shepard or don’t draft anybody I feel like in my opinion straf Reed Shepard or trade the pick for a win now player I mean the Rockets have showed interest and potentially trading this third overall pick to get a win now player and I’m not going to say that Reed Shepard is the only guy you can draft and he’s can help you win now but I think he he brings in the things that you need um the things you need to be a successful team the things or you know the things that you need to work on this is a guy who uh last year as a freshman uh was 2023 24 all SEC SEC all freshman 2023 SEC rookie of the year uh this is what he did in 33 games with only five starts uh it reminds me of like love a lot like Devin Booker I’m not comparing I mean he the play the play type the player that he reminds me like is Austin Rees but reminds me like Devin Booker just because the fact that Devon Booker is a little bit taller but um Devin Booker came off the bench as a young player at um Kentucky as well and did not start played really good Off the Bench just like Devon Booker so look I’m not comparing their games because I think Reed Shepard and Devon Booker maybe they have some similarities but I think they’re a little bit off as you know player comparison but with the same school you know same Talent uh both have the same you know draft stock as well uh Devon Booker was a top pick in that in in you know his draft and Reed Shepard’s going to be the same thing um but just the situation is what I’m comparing them that the two together because both guys went to Kentucky both guys came off the bench as a six-man in Kentucky and very did very well with that chance I’m going to go over what he did in Kentucky as a freshman this is as a freshman I will remind you guys um he averaged 29 minutes per game his field goal percentage was 53% this is one of this this next reason is the main reason I want to see him to be brought in 52% from three on five attempts per game Reed Shepard is a excellent three-point shooter and that’s that’s that’s why I want him to to be brought in rockets need defense and three-point shooting that’s why I’m going to get to my next part he is an excellent Defender he averaged almost one block per game at 0.8 and averaged almost three steals per game two and a half steals per game um and he averaged 13 points per game he avered five assists per game and as a very small guard managed to get over four rebounds per game as well so this is a guy who’s a very good scorer he’s a very good three-point shooter he’s a very good Defender I think he brings in what what the rockets need look the Rockets brought in last year in the draft they brought in someone who was a very good defender in a Min Thompson but could not shoot uh Reed Shepard reminds me a lot you know I don’t know about defensive I I’ve seen him play defensively I don’t think it really reminds me of a Min Thompson but I remember last year being hyped for a Min Thompson’s defense when we drafted him and he was absolutely outstanding for the Rockets the only really problem with the men Thompson is he can’t shoot and when I think about the Rockets potentially drafting Reed Shepard I am just as hyped about Reed Shepard as I was am Min Thompson because of the defense Reed Shepard is a great defender Just Like A Min Thompson was but the thing that excites me more about Reed Shepard that I didn’t get the excitement for last year with a in Thompson is that Reed Shepard can shoot the damn ball shot over 50% from three is an excellent three-point shooter that’s something am Min Thompson didn’t bring in last year last year I was so excited for a Min Thompson because of his defense and the scoring he was going to bring the rebounding and the assists he was going to get which he did all those things but I knew he was not going to be a good shooter that was not going to work out maybe he develops a shot somehow for the rockets in the next couple years we could only pray but everything I was so excited for he did so well in but I knew the three-point shooting was not going to be or the just jump or just the the shooting was going to be a problem for in Thompson but with Reed Shepard I see those same things defensively great defender a guy who gets a lot of steals average almost three steals per game gets a lot of blocks as well for you know a small guard um but I have a lot of hype because of you know the defense but something I didn’t have with the Min Thompson was three-point shooting you know being so confident in Min Thompson that’s something that Reed sheeper brings in and it’s not just the Rockets it’s not like they it’s not like you know these are two things that he does really good that you know they could that could help them these are two things they need the Rockets were horrendous Point shooting team there well they weren’t terrible they were like I think they were like bottom five or bottom 10 in the NBA and three-point percentage but you know for a team that likes to shoot the three ball which this is this is the most I think the Rockets have shot in a while this is the from three this is the most the Rockets have shot from three this past season since the Mike D Tony day so um you know the rockets need better three-point shooting they need Improvement at the three-point shooting and I don’t really think they have their you know I I think they need to make improvements at at the three-point shooting this year and defense as well and these are two things that he brings in and look there’s not a lot of talent in this draft uh but Reed Shepard is Talent defensively and scoring the basketball and shooting the basketball and maybe there is a player or two who could be better than him better than him in this draft but I think uh there are I think there is a chance he could become the best player in this draft but not only can he become the best player in this draft I think he brings in two things that he’s very good at that the rockets need badle he’s a great defender a very good Defender and he’s a great three-point shooter I’m going to be honest not only does he kind of look like him but you’re playing wise the way he you know he plays as a smaller guard is one thing um and the way he shoots the ball how how good of a three-point shooter is the way you know his ball handling reminds me a lot like Austin Rees for the Los Angeles Lakers um I think being a small guard is is one thing but his the way he’s able to shoot the ball very good shooter like atin Reeves is uh I think his ball handling reminds me a lot like Austin Reeves as well uh my player comp would be Austin Reeves in this in this s in this scenario um and I I’m interested to see if other Scouts kind of see a little bit in Austin Reeves like I see in uh and Reed Shepard I I just think it’s a three-point shooting and the the ball handling and even even more that he’s a a very small guard kind of like Alexon Reeves is so I think he has a lot of talent and I think the Rockets would be stupid not to draft him if he’s over if he’s available at pick number three and I really don’t like anybody else um you know there are a couple other players I like in this draft who I think are going to be good players but you know nobody I think is going to be worth picking at number three I like uh Dalton kette from Tennessee I really like Terren Shannon Jr from Illinois I think is another really good score I think these are guys that are NBA ready I think three of my favorite prospects in this draft are Reed Shepard doltan kette uh and Terence Shannon Jr these are all guys who I believe are NBA ready and are able to make an impact these are also some of the best these are also some of the best scorers in this draft as well and teren Shannon Jr and doton KET but at the same time Terence Shannon and doltan knet are very good players but outside of Reed Shepard uh the three guys I just mentioned he’s the only guy that’s worth drafting at third overall teren Shannon’s been in monck drafts around 12 to 17 uh Dalton ket’s been in the area of 8 to 12 in the mock drafts and then you have Reed Shepard who has been really in most of the mock drafts projected to go to the Rockets so he’s really the only guy that’s worth picking at number three but those are the three guys are really liking this draft and uh there’s only one of them Reed Shepard who is worth picking over you know picking it number three overall so honestly in my opinion I think you take Reed Shepard or you trade for a win now a win now player who’s going to help the Rockets become a player sorry a playoff team them thoughts and peace out go Rockets
