taking away any potential they had to win a championship just to pay clay in his first 2 years Klay earned a total of $66 million without playing a single game for the Warriors Klay Thompson didn’t start playing until halfway through his third year meaning he was out for more than half of his contract playing a total of just 32 games in his first year back in short based on availability to play it was a 2 and a2e contract for $90 million earning the equivalent of $76 million per year that was the value the Warriors received from Clay Thompson in that contract that means a 2-year $48 million this is his home this is his house so I hope he thinks and understands the deal what the deal is in moves on I hope he comes back to the Warriors the money in NBA contracts is going up and he’s been thinking about the money but I think he needs to be happy I think that’s the most important thing this is very interesting considering we’ve heard rumors that the magic might be willing to offer clay more than $30 million per year even on a 2year deal which would be pretty significant I’m going to guess that Clay is probably looking for something in the range of a 3-year deal for $70 million and the length of the contract is what the Warriors are trying to avoid they don’t want to keep clay longer than they have Steph Curry because it doesn’t make sense if there’s a chance Steph Curry leaves in 2 years the Warriors will want to completely rebuild the team at which point Clay’s value would be so low that they wouldn’t get anything in return this is why Steve cerr is also on a 2-year contract the exception here is Draymond Green who has three years left on his contract but it could be argued that Draymond could still find a role on the Warriors even without Steph Curry if the team decides to rebuild with Draymond as the leader Andrew Wiggins has three years remaining but the final year is a Player’s Choice and he doesn’t have the question of age hanging over his head with his mentality being the biggest concern for the team following Paulo banero of the Magics and other Bulls players doesn’t mean much in and of itself I don’t think that means he’s planning on going to any of those teams it’s more a matter of respect remember clay had that game earlier in the season guarding banero and probably just respects him same goes for Alex Caruso and Demar D rozan this is part of the negotiation tactic of players seeking to force their team’s hands to obtain the desired contract it’s up to the team to get Klay Thompson’s attention as Clay is testing free agency if he can get an offer from a team for 3 years that is the ultimate goal because without wasting any time he and his agent will take that offer back to Golden State to match this is the ultimate move for NBA free agents especially someone like clay who is a legend in the Bay Area and will likely have a statue erected of him his Splash brother and Draymond Green there is no doubt that his legacy will be a little different perhaps tarnished if he chooses to retire elsewhere he could do what Wade did spending a year in Chicago before playing one last time with his friend LeBron in Cleveland before returning to Miami for his final year before retiring could Phoenix or the Lakers be in Klay Thompson’s plans possibly however it appears he plans to get an offer once free agency begins until then clay will be preparing for the Bahamas national team not to play as he would need to be released from the US team but just to train he’s taking this offseason more seriously and making an effort to negotiations if clay signs with another team The Warriors will need to find a replacement however the best thing to do would be to put Moses moody in the starting lineup and give him and Jonathan kaminga a chance alongside Steph Curry Draymond Green and A rebounding Shooting Centers like Jonas Valen sunis Jonas is expected to go to a new team this summer and is probably the best center option for the Warriors to compete with right away the Warriors won’t be able to make an offer for him until June 30th the start of free agency and they won’t be able to sign him until July 6th if you were played they could not guarantee his health which could ruin his career as long as he’s healthy he should be the warriors’s number one Target in free agency there is an alternative in Andre Drummond contract with the Bulls recently expired it’s not a stretch to think that with a larger role than Golden State where his rebounding would be crucial to the Warriors competition at the next level he would accept a 2-year deal speaking of the Bulls the Warriors apparently made an offer for Alex Caruso which the Bulls rejected along with many others that included several first round picks citing a mandate from their front office to compete in the playoffs next season Alex Caruso originally went undrafted and is now Untouchable in the face of multiple first round picks you can’t make this up whatever the Warriors decide it would be wise to keep Trey on the team as long as possible which would mean getting rid of Kevin Looney and possibly Andrew Wiggins who is the biggest unknown at this point Wiggins is definitely available with the right offer so he could be on or off the team when free agency begins but absolutely nothing has skewed our expectations of where Wiggins will end up one
