HOUR 1: Will the Utah Jazz be able to make an offseason move | NBA draft + MORE
the noon hour is here check it out and you’re locked on to Utah’s highest rated most listened to sports radio station it’s my station it’s my station this is H sson and Scotty G on 975 the KL Sports Zone [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] H Olsson Jake Scott sitting in for Scotty G I’m headed up to the Huntsman center right at 3:00 fights start at 3 at 3 yeah we talked to OC that was fun today well is killing it oh yeah we’re all small fries he’s GNA be on ESPN today yeah he’s out there on ESPN just killing it with Randy Coture only one of the greatest fighters in UFC history he gets to call these fights why areen you doing uh the ring announcing today is that your thing have you got out of that game I got out of that game why I you know why the cornfed methhead thing something along those lines Jake no you did fights after that it’s actually a pressure pack deal it’s well yeah you got to get people’s names right well and you got to call the right winner oh you missed on winner one time one time I did call about 300 fights so you know it’s bound to happen once but I I saw the choke I saw the tap and it was the guy’s hand in a different choke cold around on the other side so and he had him by the arm bar so I didn’t see what was going here and the guy and I thought I had the winner and I announced the wrong winner and the guy I announced turned around because you know you’re right behind the fighters after they are done and and I said and the winner by submission uh or rear naked choke or whatever it was bird dog blah blah and he turns around he goes I didn’t win and the guy that one turns around he’s like what and I was like and then the crowd started booing me and then you realize I I I just had that moment who’s that comedian that called the wrong Steve Harvey Steve I just had the Steve Harvey moment on a very very small scale I didn’t have to deal with it with the media for a 10year period but it it was horrible man and then you sit there and you know you get into your Cadence of it and now fighting out of the blue Corner this man staring 6’3 295 lb he comes to us from New Mexico and the guy’s like I’m not from New Mexico just roll with it Bel you’re like just go it he is a he he is a black belt Brazilian jiujitsu fighter I don’t do Brazilian jiu-jitsu you do know I’m a wrestler and you’re like I was just asking you though you you’ve been to a few fights okay did you go to the fight night that broke out in a Big Brawl when Will Smith no I know what you’re talking about Nelson no I was not there for that I know I thought you were there no I wasn’t but you know the story I do know the story we never know we know how these fight nights are going to start just never know how they’re going to end and that one ended with our very good friend and producer Will Smith in a full nelson headlock by a female security officer that was hauling him out and it was I had tears rolling down my face it was so funny because he just submitted he’s like I’m not she was like five5 and well was a pretty big guy yeah she just ragd dolled him out of there ragd dolled him and both his arms were up like this and she had him the Full Nelson and pressed his head forward he wasn’t even doing anything he was Hammer drunk standing on the sideline and I I guess he heard or he didn’t hear the command of everybody needs to clear the room immediately cuz he just stood there and got himself in a full nelson headlock got ragal oh man it was so good I doubt that uh today’s event will go that way it won’t and you know why because the pfl is a very professional organization topnotch org it is it actually goes um it actually goes side by side with the UFC now you can’t argue that the UFC has the best fighters in the world like the UFC can throw the most money and they get the biggest Fighters because they can pit him against the biggest Fighters but the pfl when we’re just talking about mixed martial arts it is the biggest professional fighting card these guys fight a season and then they fight the tournament for a million dollars it’s a it’s an amazing opportunity in a sport that really needs it I don’t like the way the UFC does its thing no no no no no uh I mean they pay the top fighters whatever you’re talking about they pay those guys but everybody else is just fighting for a ham sandwich just to get the an opportunity I didn’t if there was ever a sport that needed unionizing it’s this one or or some type of reorganizing for sure yeah so I Ro for professional fighters League because they need competi the UFC has to treat its its guys better and gals yeah so um I’ve always I’ve always wanted it to have some type of Union some type of backend because nobody gets treated worse than Fighters after their career like USC Fighters you throw boxers in there yeah you the the mixed martialarts guys once they the UFC is done with them they’re like yeah see you bye the NFL they’ve got all of these things the NFL PA The Players Association it’s got so many things look I was cut my third year the NFL PA still reaches out to me on this local level we have an NFL PA Branch here in Utah and they still reach out to me and there are still medical benefits that I’m eligible for as a as a guy that didn’t even make it a full through a full third year so the Pas are amazing and these mixed Marsh guys had their shoulders ripped out had their nose broken six times they can’t breathe through their nasal passage they’ve had an orbit broke they’ve got you know they’re what what would you call it dinged up punch drunk whatever they call it yeah sure and there’s nothing there for yeah you ever want to like mail like a hive of bees to Tony dunie I know because I I actually really like dung I dunie was a tough one to dislike oh how nice a give from h i better fire this open immediately and then bam bees bees laced with Anthrax instead of Pauling on their legs little bags of Anthrax H I soak up your anecdotes like a sponge because they’re always interesting and they’re often hilarious but you talking about Tony dunie I think is is really interesting because I I I have viewed him since as a guy who actually car cares about his players in in a you know in a world where that’s not always the case you know and I always thought it was interesting that that he at least identified you with you on a level where he could have a very hard conversation with you yes and he did and a real conversation and it didn’t have to be bitter and I always thought I always admired him in a weird way that you didn’t hate him as much as I make jokes I mean I think that I actually think that says something about him as a person and maybe I’m inventing that but yeah because I thought that was interesting he cut up a two-year contract that was worth nearly a million dollars so like right before you got your pension like yep it was horrible it was bad timing awful but it doesn’t mean he has to be a jerk about it you I had a two-year-old and was pregnant with my second like it yeah I didn’t have a degree and it’s was like gez you’re so that’s it huh yeah but you’re a nice guy you’re not really meant for this occupation it’s like ah I am though cuz I you know okay so league minimum Jake when I played was 298,000 it’s 899,000 league minimum now rookie league minimum 900k 900,000 or or very very close to it so what is that up 300% from when you were playing 300% and when I played it was up at least 300% from when Merlin and Phil oh I’m sure at least oh I’m sure I’ve never seen uncles more shaking their had like how much for as a rookie how much yeah that and you it just makes you wonder can it stay on that that path in in 18 years from now is it uh yeah 18 19 years from now are we going to see another 300% increase well I mean you can never predict the future but I would say yes because it’s become the world’s safest place to park money why do you think all these billionaires are spending who cares like Steve Balmer bought the clippers and bid a billion dollars more than the next bid just because huh why not because you’re going to get a return on your investment if you look at the graph on you know the the growth of worth of a franchise and and I mean across all sports I mean even deoy Hansen when he was forced to sell RSL he sold it for a huge profit I mean it’s become this really safe place to park your money in a really great investment and become because it’s become the world’s best marketing tool I don’t know if I really see it changing you know when uh I think it will when Larry Miller back in the day bought into the Jazz do you think that he would have eventually envisioned that Sports would be the only thing that you could air commercials on on television anymore yeah yeah I mean Sports is the only thing anybody watches live yeah people will watch the like presidential debates coming up live I suppose but I mean maybe the Oscars maybe stuff like that people will watch live but pretty much Sports is the only thing left that draws huge massive audiences of live viewers who will watch commercials Even in our you know divided media landscape I mean who gets a huge audience like I mean what um what did uh let’s not even think the Super Bowl let’s think gez like an average college football game is drawing four or five million people there’s like nothing else out there no podcast no TV shows no nothing that get that many eyeballs on a product at one time anymore let alone not just DVR and watching commercials or streaming or whatever Sports is it it is the best biggest marketing tool left in which is crazy well see in regards to that Jake I don’t think people understand how powerful secg is how powerful the Smith Entertainment Group is because that’s not just Ryan Smith and his qual tricks money oh no his his group yeah I’m making that really clear because people always think oh if there was NFL expansion I mean or if there was an NFL team that saw they could buy and move there’s just no that group would have the money before you could snap your finger to to get an NFL team here and then they would have a stadium and then they would have they would roll out their carpet I’m just telling you that is a powerful entity that could do whatever it needs to do why because investors want to invest in sports yep and there’s money in that group where it was like oh an NHL team 1.2 billion how much 1.2 I’m gonna need 500 million from you I’m gonna need 200 million from you I need 600 million from you let’s go okay let’s go that’s because because you we have not seen Sports professional sports we’ve not seen it take a nose dive it is a safe massive returning investment but what’s crazy Jake what’s really crazy because we’re in the industry and we sat through it was also the first thing to go away when our nation went into crisis it was crazy how quick our Sports Heroes became Sports zeros nobody’s other than being able to give money to people that were important at that moment yeah I hear what you’re saying but Sports also kind of and I hate this term but let us out of it or whatever but like you know the NBA as stupid as the bubble was the role it is it was it was significant I I think Sports I know the role plays but how quick would it go away if we had a a major n National crisis well yeah we I mean we saw it during World War II where baseball went away and all that stuff I mean yeah crisis those Sports goes away so it’s not foolproof but it feels like it’s pretty darn close but Major League Baseball’s doing fine I mean what’s the difference between a minor setback back and you know the the NBA lived through the pandemic and they’re about to sign their biggest most lucrative media deal ever it didn’t seem to hurt them one bit except for the shortterm you know uh uh cash shortfall which is a thing and that’s why they’re going to expand to Vegas and make up all that money up that’s the thing is it’s an indestructible investment I mean we all fantasized about winning uh what was the stupid Ed McMahon thing oh clear Publishers Clearing House you know yeah right and always said you know when you’re were a kid like oh I just take that money and put it in a savings account live off the interest so much live off the interest blah blah blah this is the world’s safest most lucrative savings account yeah sports franchises it’s crazy now I don’t know if I’m investing in upstart sports necessarily but if you buy into an NFL franchise which they never sell and there that should tell you something right there or buy into an NBA franchise I mean it’s coming back to you it’s what uh the the poor uh Ward member was selling to Ty Demmer except it’s actually real yeah and I’m not I’m not TR I shouldn’t have made that joke but but you know people come and promise you like I’ll give you 20% return on your investment or whatever and you’re talking about Triton Financial I don’t know what it was called I just know it was a a Ponzi scheme they stole Millions from Heisman winners it’s awful like tons of sports people it’s it’s gross and Ponzi schemes and that sort of stuff is gross but the the they always get you because they say I’ll get you 20% of your money in six months or whatever and usually you hear that and you go well that doesn’t that sounds too good to be true cuz it is right except for in sports what was Larry Miller’s return on investment for whatever it was how long do you own the Jazz 20 years 40 years no maybe a little less like 35 years before he passed or you’re talking about the Miller family the Miller family I mean invested at $15 million or whatever at $30 million or whatever it was and sold it for 1.5 billion in that period of time I mean there’s not a better investment that you could have made yeah literally no no that’s the that’s the power of it is pretty incredible it’s crazy it but that’s why you’re right SG has carries a big stick because there there’s a lot of dough there because people want to invest in sports for great reason it’s a great investment a massive stick I just I just want people to understand it what what Ryan Smith has brought to the state in terms of buying power persuasion yeah he he can get it done and that’s why I want to see all this groundwork laid so that if it’s ever a possibility we we get some opportunity at the NFL because that’s the dream maybe eight 10 years down the road now after all this segment hands I want you to do me a favor next time that there is a labor stoppage so you’ll lock out a strike whatever okay in one of the major sports when the owners all of a sudden go how do you expect to go on I mean we can it’s so expensive to run the dayto day I mean we’ve got to strangle another couple percentage points out of the players because we couldn’t possibly exist just remind yourself that this is the world’s greatest investment and all of that is garbage yep come up with a better argument and don’t feel bad nope not one bit all right we got a everybody forgets that you know and labor stoppage all of a sudden everybody hates on the players for some reason where they’re like oh you’re not happy with 20 million bucks or whatever and it’s like you’re missing the point yeah uh we’ve got a lot to get to today we’re going to be talking NHL game five coming up tonight they drug him back to Edmonton so we’ll be talking about that at one o’clock or sorry game six at one o’clock and we’ve got plenty of NBA coverage Tim mome is going to join us from 2: to 3 we’ll be talking draft and so many other things but wanted to jump into some of these thoughts with Jake right out of the gates we had Howard Beck on with us yesterday let’s jump into the starter this is H Scotty G line is set and it’s time to kick off the show with the biggest topic of the day this is the starting lineup on 975 the KSL Sports S I mean it’s going to be all the same names that we’ve been talking about for months you know are the Hawks going to move off of one of their point guards Trey young or dejonte Murray will the Cavaliers move off of one of their guys your old friend Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland uh will the Cavaliers move off of one of their big men presumably Jared Allen um are the Nets holding on to male Bridges uh stubbornly I would say um you know is Paul George leaving in free agency like we’ve got all the you know plenty of speculation and plenty of big names that could move around this summer in free agency or trade but it’s usually less than the number of players we actually talk about I don’t know that there’s any big opportunity there and I’ll say this and I don’t mean it to sound like a hot take I think there’s more likely of the Jazz taking a step back than taking a step forward like if somebody made them a sweetheart deal for for L Lowry marinan that wouldn’t surprise me either because the fact is this if you look at where the Jazz are right now and you look at the teams ahead of them and you look at the fact that a team like the Grizzlies were only down because of injuries you you know they were whatever top three just a year ago um they’re going to bounce back and the Spurs now have w y are going to keep building around him and the rockets are already starting to make their leap where’s the room for the Jazz to be like a a trade or two or or one big game hunt away from being in playoff contention it’s really crowded and now there are teams that are on the downside right like the Lakers we don’t know how much longer they’re going to be a really good team but as long as LeBron is around they’re going to be in the mix the Warriors have age issues the Clippers have age issues and could lose Paul George but I just don’t see where the path is for the Jazz to to make some swing this summer and be like okay we’re back in business um so I think it’s either something smaller around the margins or again not to be hot taky but if somebody made them a great offer for Lowry Markin and and it was one more step back to take steps forward later when there’s more of an opportunity to actually climb the standings that would seem like a plausible way to go to that’s Howard Beck one of the best NBA insiders out there love Howard yeah Jake uh those were that’s a big strong take from a big mind what did you think on some of those comments I don’t think he’s necessarily wrong however I don’t think the Jazz are as far away as he made it sound like if the Jazz landed a big game player like a made a huge trade this offseason absolutely they could be back in the playoff picture is Zack LaVine consider that no no no no what I’m saying no no no Zack if we’re talking specifically Zack LaVine he does not fall into that category right now Zack lavine’s value is so low in the NBA that the that the Bulls are have to pay a team to take him off their hands so that’s why the Jazz be interested they take that guy and a few first round picks or whatever for for their trouble and then flip him later or whatever you don’t really he he would not qualify when Danny a said big game hunting that is not that’s not what we’re talking about this is more in line with the John Collins deal last year than it would be MH trading for a a bigname player this I don’t I don’t I don’t know if it happens but if it happens that’s what it is I mean Zack lavine’s not going to help you win he hasn’t helped Chicago win he didn’t help Minnesota win he’s he barely plays he’s injured all the time so you’d be doing this to make an you know make an asset bigger down the stretch I use the example of um you ever met one of those people that have traded like they start with like a paper clip and then they trade that paper clip for like yeah and whatever kids do it in our neighborhood and they end up with a Ferrari or something it’s a oneup that’s I mean that’s basically what the we’re going to do Chicago a favor put a couple Assets in our pocket maybe we can flip him down this you know down the line maybe not whatever I don’t think this is one of those well it’s time to take a step forward type of deals and I I think Howard is right I don’t I think the Jazz are closer to where we’re going to lose as many games as possible than to we’re going to the Western Conference Finals but that they’re going to resign Lowry and they’re going to Max Lowry out and he’s going to be on the team as Howard Beck said what if there is a sweetheart deal could you see the Jazz ever pulling the trigger on it sure better be really good it better be really really I mean he’s a really good player and he’s very happy and everybody loves him and you could put him under contract long term he likes being the number one role sure he loves scoring 20 plus points a game he keeps his head down doesn’t talk a lot of crap isn’t forcing trades I don’t think he’ll ever force a trade I don’t think he’ll ever have forced his way out of anything here so you just the Jazz have to be ready for opportunities to come along and if it’s a big opportunity that comes along requires them to trade Lowry Market in then sure they’re going to do that I don’t think they’re in a hurry to do anything frankly that’s their position of strength right now is they can just wait in the weeds that’s where they they don’t have to do anything teams like Chicago that all of a sudden have to do stuff that’s when you start making stupid moves and trades and those sorts of things the Caruso move is just crazy well well it’s not it’s just like Oklahoma City just got a lot better and they did it because the Bulls are just on this elimination mode yeah I don’t know if Caruso puts him over the top but I know Josh giddy wasn’t any good so they had to move on getting whatever for Josh giddy is fine I don’t know see that but’s 21 and Caruso’s 30 and Caruso’s got some proven measure I mean at least he’s a moving piece well giddy you don’t have to guard so that’s really hard and Caruso is gonna guard better than anybody right he’s a he’s an incredible defensive player so you know the the the teams that are in a position of desperation are the teams that all of a sudden start making dumb moves teams that can weigh in the weeds and and jump when an opportunity presents itself you know uh think um think of when the Celtics landed Kyrie Irving even though that wasn’t didn’t turn out to be one of Danny’s more successful moves in the long run but did he know that Kyrie Irving was going to get sick of LeBron and request a trade from Cleveland was that the plan or was he sitting there ready to roll when an opportunity popped up he said I’ll give you a couple of assets and a wounded Isaiah Thomas and you send me Kyrie Irving didn’t even have to spend the whole War chest to get the guy and it was all because Cleveland had to move him because he said he’s not gonna play with LeBron anymore that stuff isn’t predictable you just have to be ready to roll I I wonder if jazz fan I think for the most part they probably understand that I don’t know it’s such an unpredictable and got to be ready and anything can happen type of League I don’t know that they do because I hear a lot what’s the plan what’s the a plan it’s like this may sound kind of weird but there really isn’t a plan yeah it’s the plan is to be the smartest you can and be ready for the moment and have the assets to make it move well the one thing that we know the Utah Jazz have to do is coming up next Wednesday they they have to figure out what they’re going to do with the 10 29 and 31 or 32 was it 31 or 32 I thought it was 32 but 32 they got to figure out what to do with those picks we’re going to hit on that next jump into a little bit of draft talk with Jake Scott that’s coming up next 3 2 1 1 it’s the 10th Annual top 60 and 60 get your college football fixed every day at 1:30 as the Zone counts you down to the start of the 2024 season by listing off the top 60 players in the state of Utah as voted on by the local media and you the fans you’ll also hear from the coaches as they talk about the players that will impact their season the most it’s the top 60 and 60 weekdays at 13 presented by five star painting on your home of the best college football coverage in Utah 975 the KSL Sports s you’re locked on to H Suson and Scotty CH that’s right on 975 the KSL Sports [Music] Z oh oh oh [Music] that [Music] Junior I [Music] like now you ready to head up some NBA Draft coverage Wednesday uh are you ever ready what time we kicking that thing off there Lloyd 6 o’cl 6 pm. Jake Scott is Cleveland back is yeah coach cleave yeah he’s coming again this year awesome he was so good last year I’m really looking uh forward to it um you know it’s it’s like uh it’s like media day I mean it’s just one of those chaotic shows that’s really super fun to do and you don’t know what’s going to come next and yeah you’re you’re trying to juggle in breaks and picks and uh you know analysis and you know we did it over at the break last year so you got to get a burger in there somewhere I mean it’s it’s really a to-do and that was a good place not bad yeah they had some good food yeah not bad at all are we back at that same place I don’t that was was a pretty fun little joint okay Lloyd’s got some stuff cooking right now so the draft coverage is going to be coming up Wednesday at six o’clock and the Utah Jazz are in a very similar situation they were this year or this time last year which is three very critical picks that they got to decide to do something to do with I kind of remember our conversation Jake I I showed up for an hour of that draft coverage last year and I don’t think any of us believed that they would draft all three and try to develop all three and then play all three through the season at this point last year did we I know I didn’t I did not in fact I was very opinionated that oh no way H they’re not going to make these three picks and then they made me look dumb I I would say the same thing this year no way they make all three of these picks but you never know I mean but if the right if right again back to our conversation of don’t just make a deal to make a deal I mean if it’s not out there then take your three young players and you never know what you can do with those three young players in the future I mean look at oai who they decided maybe wasn’t a great fit and so were able to flip him for another draft pick and kick that down the road you know what I mean so you know making all three picks doesn’t mean that all three picks are going to be on your roster for the entire career or even close but yeah I don’t if if he had his choice you think will hardy wants a team with no six soft more rookie players no way no I I just can’t see that I mean that’ll lose you some games if the idea is you want to lose as many games as possible that’ll lose a lot yeah and give you a cause give you an excuse that you can be like right hey super young six players what do you want sorry six out of 15 are all in their first or second year and this is just what you’re going to get excuse me I’ve got to change a diaper and you know if Zack LaVine would just pick up his game but he’s not playing cuz he never does so so no I I totally understand that but I okay so B going back to Howard Beck’s comments of it’s going to be a step back before a step forward okay let’s go specifically to this draft what is it more likely they take a step forward in this draft by packaging and trying to move to a third or fourth like third is where they got Tatum third is where they got Jaylen Brown and that’s where Danny a built the Boston Celtics or is it more likely that they sell them that they move them and that they fall back and out well Justin Xanax talked a lot about this it’s who is this year’s Giannis and I mean that by giannis’s draft you know it was Rudy’s draft too right Y super flat draft just like this year everybody said oh it stinks and and you know there’s nothing on top there’s no there was no readily identifiable player well obviously there were two I just named two Hall of Famers right there like there were there were good players in that draft they just weren’t right on top so the challenge I think is going to be who’s Giannis and where do you got to go to get him you know maybe that’s maybe that’s up maybe it’s back last year was interesting because they had Hendrick and Keon George right there together on their big draft board right and George slid to them at 16 so they preferred George over the five players that went between six players five players that went between Hendrick and George but they got him at 16 as opposed to at 11 does that make any sense so where is that where is who is that player and where do you have to go to get him and then i’ I’d honestly make sure I’d go a pick higher than that and make sure I got him I think movement’s going to be a thing cuz nobody knows who to pick so it wouldn’t be it wouldn’t surprise me at all if there were a lot of pick out there to be had and so where do you have to go and if you don’t find anybody then trade out trade to next year say we don’t want 10 we’ll we’ll trade it for a future and again that goes back to the conversation we had earlier where everything is opportunity driven right and I don’t think Danny a has a specific plan I think he’s got 10 plans 15 plans TW 20 plans you might have them organized and prioritized and ordered and he might have a design that gets thrown out of whack because somebody does something sooner and based off of that move he’s got to do something else but you think about the game of chess when you’re playing a game of chess how often each move changes based off of what you see in front of you and that’s the NBA draft that’s just NBA management you’re watching them take their Rook or their Knight and you’re watching a certain angle and placement and you’re like oh geez that’s check okay I got to move my king I can’t even move my I can’t move a p that’s dannyan just has to he got to be malleable he’s got to move and flow with what he sees my hope is there’s there’s something there my hope is that he does see something at four or five or he sees something that he thinks he can get at 10 or 11 that’s bigger than a Keon George that’s bigger than a right away I wouldn’t expect that I I wouldn’t expect it either but that’s my hope that there’s something that he sees he’s like this is gonna they’re gonna blow their socks off I wouldn’t know what it is because the the Utah Jazz are one of the most tight lipped organizations in the NBA but I would guess they get another Taylor Hendricks like player where the ceiling is super high but he’s probably got a long way to go that’s that seems like most of the players in this year’s draft unless you want a 6-1 guard I mean all the the players that have kind of game you know that aren’t necessarily projects are all like five feet tall and that doesn’t win I don’t think in the NBA so like for example Hance I love I like Cody Williams out of Colorado we got a chance to see him a little bit I know a lot of people tell you it’s a little bit of an up and down year but I I think he he’s great 68 small forward his his brother’s in the league you know he’s he’s probably got his head on straight because his brother’s giving him good advice of what you got to do like I I who knows when it comes to draft analysis right but I’ve seen Cody Williams in the mock drafts and what do those bozos know but I’ve seen him anywhere from like four to 16 yeah so let’s pretend for a second Cody Williams is the guy well how high up do you have to get to ensure that you get him because the last thing you want to do is have somebody you don’t want you know you you pick somebody a 10 you don’t really believe in but you’ve got the pick yeah you know that’s the last thing that would be such a tough thing to work on just to to make sure that I’m able to get it when I make the move to go get it that’s what he’s good at though remind me a couple of moves that the Utah Jazz made for Rudy Gober and Donovan Mitchell both acquired from Denver correct both from Denver uh Rudy they traded let’s see the Eric green was in one of these trades I got to remember which one it was Eric green was a second round pick from the Jazz they traded him to Denver and cash for Rudy who was the 27th pick and then Donovan they had traded they had drafted Trey ly yes the year before and then they traded Trey lyes to Denver for the what was Donovan the 12th pick Yes somewhere in there or 13th I can’t remember yeah somewhere in there but it was Trey Lyles for Donovan and it was Eric Green in cash for Rudy two underrated moves oh great move brilliant yeah brilliant moves one a Hall of Famer for sure in Rudy Gober and I think a lot to be shown for Donovan Donovan’s an all NBA player yeah there was I mean it was a great move great moves great move um Trey lles is still in the league but he’s not a guy you know he’s he’s a bench player role player both of those are Dennis Lindsay right yeah that those were Dennis Dennis’s crowning moves I mean yeah no general manager makes All the Right Moves you I me you know this from the NFL I mean even the best ones did you were you with Bill poon yes great general manager far from perfect yeah I mean made his fair share of bad moves but great Dennis made some not so great moves but man Rudy and Donovan were both home runs and with both of them they identified those guys in workouts and they did what they had to do to go get him I mean there legends about uh how mad Dennis Lindsay was or or what he U how he talked everybody who saw Rudy’s workout about or no it was Donovan’s workout about that you better he threatened to fire people if it leaked out how good Donovan was see I think that these players exist in every draft they do 100% they they exist in every draft and and I believe that they’re in there and I’m gonna tell something that makes it more difficult for me and I I don’t know if you’re bumping into this while you’re putting together your draft show and getting ready for coverage with coach Cleveland but this is something I’m finding as I’m researching the names and and putting together numbers and trying to come up with ideas and plans and and fun things because I I think I’m gonna come in for an hour with you guys and sit down so I’ve identified now right now I’ve got 10 foreign born foreign living players in the top 30 prospects there’s 10 of them and it’s not like a Cody Williams where you flip on a TV and you get to watch him in the NCAA tournament or a reed Shepard where you flip on the TV and you you get to see him through a Conference tournament or an NCAA tournament you see them hit the shots or grab the big rebounds or play lock down defense these European guys have I’m I’m most interested in them because of the way they handle their business but I know the least about them and there’s 10 in the top 30 well what is your what’s your budget what’s your scouting budget H for NBA draft scouting it’s what’s your what’s your budget like probably like a microwavable burrito that’s probably what like three bucks Hot Pocket Hot Pocket yeah maybe uh what’s your drink of choice these days what’s your goto it’s a uh it’s it’s a peach monster one of those peachy Peach monster so that’s probably two bucks yeah 250 you can get two for five so we’re looking at a budget around six seven eight dollar eight bucks nowadays with inflation right yeah these NBA these NBA scouting departments are so big now yeah it’s why I I kind of find missing in the draft a little inex usable because they just invest millions of dollars millions millions scouting all these players I mean yeah we have some weird YouTube videos where we get to watch these prospects from overseas well let me tell you if you’ve got that kind of budget you better have watched this young European players uh player play since they were 12 you know what I mean like I I find it you know Ben uh Ben was is talking about moving the NBA drafted two days and how you know these teams need the night to to figure out their strategy or blah blah blah and it’s like they’re paid zillions of dollars you’re telling me it’s millions of dollars to prepare for one night and two picks or two rounds of picks you can’t have it together for one night you need an extra day I I don’t understand why they get it wrong so much but they do well if you need to understand the scouting process just go watch that hernon Gomez movie oh yeah yeah uh I never watched it but I know what you’re talking about you didn’t watch that is it good the Adam Sandler Queen Latifa I’m I’m out on Adam Sandler after I watched his Ben tricked me into watching his Sports gambling show and it just nearly gave me a heart attack so I’m like I can’t watch anymore of this is that like fine Jewels or something yeah yeah uncut gems uncut gems yeah no I I didn’t watch that don’t I am very hesitant to jump into Adam Sandler now days but that one pretty good was really good all right and it was it was really good and you know they they brought in a a lot of the superstars of the NBA and so you get to see like I think Anthony Edwards was just himself in that movie I mean he was he was playing him himself I think he was playing himself was he playing himself that movie Lloyd Anthony Edwards did did did Trey and all those guys that I I think they did play themselves if I remember right but you know that’s kind of fun because you get to see a movie side of these these guys that we’ve watched come up in the college ranks and play in the NBA and you’re like oh he’s as big a jerk maybe the bigger jerk and then I actually think that Queen Latifa and Adam Sandler’s chemistry was amazing was it romance yeah yeah married oh yeah they’re married which is it’s just a different direction that Adam Sandler has ever taken in his movies because it’s a TA Leone or uh Drew Barrymore uh what you know he tends to go for the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood that he can Selma hyek that he can possie was he in with Selma Hayek um grown-ups oh I’ve never seen that movie oh no that’s actually pretty funny because that’s just dudes sitting around ribbing each other all right ripping on each other and making fun of each other but uh sakay was his wife in growing UPS one and I know wona ryer was his wife in that one uh yeah and I didn’t like that that’s Deeds yeah Mr Deeds I didn’t like that movie my back hurts one yeah yeah but the one John tuturo was funny in movie oh Kate beckin cell and click very sneaky I’m not I I did not like a Mr D watch how did you I don’t know I didn’t like it I it was too corny I could watch John tuturo in any movie he’s great yeah you like him in the window I didn’t see that one oh you didn’t see the window forget I ever since I had kids I stopped I stopped watching movies I don’t know I don’t it’s weird I don’t know how people life progression stops it just stops dead tracks and then you’ll pick up later where you and NZ find a little freedom and you’re like let’s go be cool again and then you’re just not cool yeah it’s over like a man and I are like let’s go be cool no and we’re out and we’re like oh my gosh I I can’t do it it’s weird our fashion is still pre kid one fashion it’s like oh baby that looks cute then I buy it for her I take it home and Ashley and Mackie are like gag me with a spoon what what do they think of your your jeans that with jewels all over them the the you’re talking about the dragon yeah my dragon jeans what do they think about the dragon jeans I’m about to bring the the dragon jeans are coming out of retirement today for the fights yeah go get some AFF you know you know get an Affliction shirt in my dragon jeans and he’s Jake Scott he’s the best in the business Jake and B on 975 the sports Z [Applause] [Music] all Stu with to go walking with the dead man all my [Music] shoulder all this stuff it [Music] go walking with the dead man over my [Music] shoulder Lloyd I’m getting reports out of Eagle Mountain from my lover the can you not say it like that from my lover from my lover yeah I know my amazing wife dude there’s a hell storm in EO mountain and the hell is about the size of a corn a coin purse it’s about the it’s about the circumference maybe of a golf ball but flatter flatter okay so it’s not round it but if you can kind of see the picture there I can’t it’s massive hell coming down in Eagle Mountain right now so if you’re driving around that that’s denture car type of Hil did did you see they had a hell storm recently very Rec in Texas like baseball sized no I didn’t see that how is that even possible I don’t know does come damage I don’t know you know who might know something like that I don’t know k bank I bet you he knows a thing or two about ha I’d be interested to know how a golf ball siiz piece of Hell forms and falls in Eagle Mountain Utah that is Kake where you at that is insanity uh a little bit of news in what you may missed I actually talked just a second about this with Jake Scott and I think it’s a brilliant move for Oklahoma City and I just think it shows where the Chicago Bulls are right now as an organization they’re on a holel they want to get rid of everything and they know they got to replace um they got to find a different playmaker for Lonzo ball and they believe that that’s Josh giddy so they’ve given Alex Caruso over to Oklahoma City for Josh Giddy and and I know Jake’s not big on Josh Giddy and I’m not NE necessarily big on Josh giddy but the guy does have 11 career career triple doubles which is fourth by any player at the age of 21 that’s only behind Luca donic mag Magic Johnson and Ben Simmons and again to Jake Scott’s Point Jake is not a fan of empty numbers and maybe those are empty triple doubles but Josh giddy is Young um I know that he was in a negative a very very negative news cycle that got cleared up it was actually thrown out because there were no substantial there was no substantial evidence to cooperate and to move forward with any type of criminal punishment but Josh giddy is now moving to Chicago Alex kuso coming to Oklahoma City and it worries me a little bit putting Alex cruso kind of at that Peak he’s a peak Defender and he hit 41% from three and he’s ranked fourth in steals in the NBA and you drop him on that team with ch hren and Shay gilis Alexander and you might have a problem in Oklahoma City next year Lloyd like a real problem in Oklahoma City so and and a young problem with Oklahoma City chadol Gren and Shay are not going anywhere if they can win they’re not going anywhere real fast and the Thunder could build something that is going to be undeniable for a long period of time I just think Kus is a brilliant addition to that crew he’s not demanding the ball he doesn’t have to hand have it hand he’s one of the best one of the best defenders in the league he’s going to give you everything you need defensively he’s he’s a he’s a glue guy he can hit a catch and shoot uh he hits 41% from three so anytime you’re working the ball into hren hen’s a good enough passer he can find Alex on the outside and cruso can still pass it down he’s gonna get the steals I think that’s a problem I think that’s a a major major problem for the West in particular so big move for Oklahoma City and and I think a must move for Chicago we’ve got a a big one o’clock hour coming your way
