Rockets In Unique Position Of Power For 2024 NBA Draft
the Rockets have the third pick in the draft next week they they hold a lot of the cards here this is not a great draft this I’m gonna promise people this right off the top this will not be a segment where Seth and I break down our big board for the upcoming draft because I haven’t heard of like eight of the guys in the top 10 you know no this is a very Houston Texans like situation prior to CJ Stout where in any given year the Texans the Texans were incredible at getting uh at getting high draft picks when there were no good quarterbacks in the draft so yes until until CJ’s troud came along and then ironically enough they didn’t even have the top pick to get the quarterback of choice according to whomever but yes I was talking to a buddy of mine yesterday and we’re talking about the NBA draft and they’re like well who do you who do you want the Rockets who would you who do you want them to take if they stay at three and I’m like I don’t know probably either Reed Shepard from Kentucky really good shooter or Donovan kingan the seven-footer from Yukon and like oh why I’m like because those are the only two I’ve ever heard of okay they’re like two that I’ve watched in the NCA and I know Castle kingan’s teammate is a guy that’s way up there but those are actually the two that according to Kelly uh Kelly Aiko of the athletic have kind of separated themselves for the Rockets like that if they do stay at three I like the idea of drafting I’ve watched plenty of Reed Shepard with Kentucky like I do like the idea of them bringing in a shooter I know he’s only like 6’2 um but they do need some guys that can knock down jump shots that is one thing that they were not great at last year so so I’m down with that the the big the big thing coming out of this Kelly Aiko draft notebook that he has on the athletic he got a lot of information in here man it’s really good stuff draft is next Wednesday and Thursday the NBA’s turning it into a tuna boy that second round should be a real Humdinger of a telecast um the growing sense among Rivals that the Rockets are in a quote unique position of strength they’ve already had Portland Charlotte and Memphis as the ones that seem to be going uh hardest after the third overall pick and he reveals in here Seth that the rockets that um New Orleans has been coming after the Rockets trying to get a Brandon Ingram for alpie trade done and the rockets thankfully are not into that action right there yeah that’s uh I don’t look I know that there have been various arguments at various times about alpie and whatever his deficiencies are and then obviously green and coexisting and all that like I just let’s not overthink this people you got good young Talent on the team you got a good you got a good head coach okay uh give him some time give him some time give give all these guys some time and I’m not interested in way I’m not really all that interested in trading away young Talent yeah but being in a spot where it’s not the it’s not the best year in the draft to have that pick and yet you might be positioned pretty well because you are a young team to leverage it into some nice things there’s apparently there’s some teams that are wanting to jump up to three cu the Spurs have the fourth and the eighth pick in the draft and there’s a lot of teams that see value in three cuz you’re at least you’re jumping up ahead of the Spurs who are still despite being the fourth team picking in the draft viewed as a very well-run organization and they’re and let’s face it they’re about to be good again soon with Wen bayama as their best player like they’re yeah they’re like one more good draft away from being a a probably a pretty formidable basketball team again it just Alie Alie just backs him up backs him up just that’s true he bullies him skinny French bones to the to the rim yeah that’s true that’s true he mentions a possible Eric Gordon reunion in here as well I’m kind of over Eric courton and him arguing with every call and chucking up his jumpers and things like that I don’t know man I’m I’m I don’t know if I need a reunion with Eric Gordon in free agency yeah yeah so um JJ reck is the new Lakers head coach um I will give JJ Reddit credit Seth if he was uh if part of the reason he started doing a podcast with LeBron was so that he could get in the HOV lane for a head coaching job in the NBA kudos to you young man Kelly Stafford like uh in his in his positioning of getting what he wants very well done very very well done these are the three people uh Kelly Stafford JJ reck and makavelli himself those are the three historical figures that are known for knowing how to maneuver their way into things I’m going to put up a poll and see if that’s the case I reck I’ve seen people point this out reck as the head coach of the Lakers he’s in all likelihood he’s going to be coaching LeBron I know LeBron’s got LeBron can opt out and then resign I I think most people think that LeBron’s going to be a Laker again next year we’ll see a bronny his son as a Laker as well um reick does seem a little thin skinned to be in I mean he’s gonna have to unplug from all the the Social Media stuff that he’s on you know he got you know what it was though is he thin-skinned on social media I feel like for him a lot of it was just at least from what I’ve seen because I don’t like follow a lot of the national NBA guys real closely um it seems more like he was just more disgusted with the job of being a commentator on television he was that’s right yeah that’s right like if anything it’s like okay yeah he he knew he figured out over the course of a few years for sure that yeah I I want to be on the side that’s actually trying to win games instead of criticizing people for not winning games yeah yeah um yeah I don’t know how he’s going to do I and I said earlier I I think of all of the three major sports football baseball and basketball I’m not saying there aren’t good basketball coaches I’m not saying that there aren’t basketball coaches that make a difference there are clearly there are basket there some are better than others I think we saw that here in Houston this year with em OD DOA he’s clearly better than Steven Silas and it showed in coaching this young nucleus so I I think there’s effects I just think of the three Sports the basketball is the one where the head coaching I think has the least effect at the extreme ends like I think a really good basketball coach probably doesn’t have as much impact on a team as a a really good manager in baseball and certainly as a really good head coach in football and I think similarly the downside is like if it’s a bad coach in basketball but he’s got good talent it’s not going to create her like it might with a like a bad coach can ruin a talented football team I think uh

Sam Presti, the OG of building through the draft, thinks this is a great draft. Group think is a real, social phenomenon. If you don't know who eight of the top ten players are in this draft, you probably shouldn't be doing a show on it. The only thing you said of worth is that Reed Sheppard is the correct pick for the Rockets. Dalton Knecht should be good too.
I hope they trade up with the Atlanta hawks and select Sarr. Sarr will fit well with sengun. We know that the hawks are high on risacher and clingan more so than Sarr.
