[Brad Stevens] “Kristaps, after his surgery, we don’t know exactly when he’ll be back but he’ll probably miss at least the very start of the season.”

This is a quote from Brad Stevens on The Ryen Russillo podcast at the 32:00 mark when talking about the roster.

The fact he played on that injury is wild. This team has estabslished chemistry let him be the guy that doesn’t need the regular season lol

  2. The Celtics don’t need him in the regular season, but his contribution is a big part what helped them build such a big lead in the standings. That allowed everyone else to rest and coast down the stretch so they could be healthy for the playoffs.

Coming off a Championship season and with at least JT and Jrue playing in the Olympics, it’s going to be super valuable to load manage the core next season.

I feel like I heard ~6 month recovery for this. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was out until around Christmas.

  4. NoPotato2470

That’ll do us, prime shape in playoffs for #19 😈

  5. xfortehlulz

Hell if he’s out til Christmas idc, get that man healthy for the stretch run

Maybe a ring chasing veteran center is more likely to sign here now that they know they’ll be able to start for a portion of the season

We don’t need him for an 82 game regular season. Let him rehab and get his strength back and bring him back in January or February

  8. Eisenhorn76

Yeah. I figured this would be the case. He’s probably a mid-November return at the earliest. So he could miss the first month depending on when exactly the season starts.

I’m curious as to whether they’ll consider keeping him as a 6th man to limit the minutes. He’d be the best 6th man in the league by a mile.

KP did so much for the celtics this year. That spot is going to be a weak spot when al retires if he cant get healthy though, and with him missing half the regular season, its expecting alot out of luke kornet and al horford, and tillman to cover those starter minutes all year. Realistically the celtics did not need KP in the playoffs this year. EDIT: but we also got lucky and played the mavs instead of bigman heavy teams like the nuggets or the twolves.

Give the man all the time he needs. Daddy Al, Cool Hand Luke, and the X Man will hold it down until he returns

  12. I’m definitely worried about his long term health given the rarity of such an injury. Hope he comes back in full strength. I have no doubt we will be fine without him.

Truly no reason to rush. Keep the big man out until he’s 110% recovered. If he can stand it

I say we get in the 50-53 win range this year with an extended absence of KP. Gonna be a fight but snagging the #1 seed again will be a MUST! People can brush off his importance in the first half of the season but he’s a HUGE reason why we were so successful and had the 14 game lead in the east. Missing him for the first 2-3 months is going to be tougher than most people think. We will survive but won’t be as dominate in some games as we were this year. Hopefully he can actually stay healthy when he comes back.

No need to rush him back. Take time rest up champ gotta do this thing again and those legs are gonna be FRESH.

I think the last piece of our puzzle now is going to be ring chasing vet minimums and developing youngsters who will flourish on the bench. That is even more important than it was a few years ago before the new CBA, if our front office can pull that off I would be amazed

My fear is that he will turn into the Celtics version of Chris Sale. Helped lead us to a dominant championship in 2018, but just could not stay healthy for any extended period of time after getting a ring

I think us Celtics fans all of a sudden are wishing that the offseason could be longer lmao. I’m gonna ignore this and remember how awesome the parade was instead 😅

When Jrue got his extension, I think a lot of us expected him to be the first starter to possibly get moved down the line (if any got moved at all). Now it’s got to be KP. Best case we repeat and sell moderately high assuming he’s healthy next summer. Big assumption though.
