Final predictions for how the Sixers offseason will unfold

[Music] and appears we are finally here while it is Tuesday and the draft doesn’t begin until Wednesday it’s time for our final predictions of how the Philadelphia 76s off seon is going to go and to do that for us today here on our show and all week long we are presented by with the busy week that we have our great friends from Rothman orthopedics they have a covered they have you covered should you ever need them for some injury situations like I did we’ll tell you about that in a little bit with uh my ACL and my achilles uh great people from Rothman orthopedics and they have us covered here all week long for our draft coverage beginning right now here on the phiy 6es podcast with Derek botner Kyle newbeck I am Devon given Brian is here producing all of you of course in the chat for a very very important week for the Philadelphia 76ers franchise only four players currently on the roster they have to somehow fill out a roster so we’re going to talk about Paul George the latest there we’ll get into the NBA draft on Wednesday where the 76ers do hold the 16th and the 41st overall Selections in the 2024 draft 16 will be selected or not on Wednesday and pick number 41 is not until Thursday where the second round will take place we’ll get into it all there and then later on we’ll talk about what we believe will actually happen for Daryl M Elton brand and the front office for the Philadelphia 76ers that really kicks off on Wednesday but we do have to start off with Paul George with the latest from him over the weekend when we left on Friday there was so much that was happening if by the way if you’re looking at our set here you see some things laying out here our draft party will’ll tell you about that in just a bit we have some stuff that’s going to be giving away real good giveaways that are coming for everybody we’ll tell you about it one two of those are right here we’ll tell you about another one in a little bit uh but with the Paul George stuff when we were here on Friday we broke down quite a bit and we started off with Paul George we’re going to do that again here as well because so much has changed Kyle since Friday when we last left from still thinking that yeah there may be some a little bit of changes but doesn’t mean that the Sixers are not still in the mix to acquire the multi-time All-Star future Hall of Famer that is Paul George and maybe pair him up with Joel andb and Tyrese Maxi but so many other things have then since happened and since surfaced about Paul George’s availability a different pathway that he may take that was not really discussed all that much and that is the fact that he may now opt in to his big $ 48 million deal and then seek a trade so as we start there with Paul George what are you feeling right now based on the things that you’ve heard maybe some things that you’ve heard yourself as to where we are right now with Paul George the Philadelphia 76ers and the chances that that may not be all that available for them right now yeah so Friday last Friday I published a story at all ph.com I would point you there right now unfortunately we’re having some website issues but once it’s back up there I I indicated to the people that I had been hearing a lot about the optin and trade scenario for Paul George that that was something that has been picking up steam talking to people around the league that there’s a growing expectation that might happen over the weekend you started hearing that from more and more people I believe Mark Stein longtime respected NBA reporter is one of those people signal boosted that over the weekend and more and more it feels to me that that’s what’s going to end up happening that Paul George maybe is not in love with just having the situations available to him where he has to sign into cap space or he has to stay in LA and so I think to give himself the most options that he can possibly have although he’s going to take some risk on the the long term obviously if he he plays next year on this contract and doesn’t play well or stay healthy that’s going to eat into what could have been a Max could turn into you know a much smaller contract so he is bringing on some risk there if he does that well so I guess to lay it out uh the calculator will start start talking here um it used to be on the previous Collective bargain agreement that in order to do an uh optin extended trade or just an extended trade you would be limited to three years total including what’s left on the contract so one year plus a two-year extension uh so it almost never happened because you could just get more by signing out right yeah nowadays in in the collective baring agreement that started in 20123 uh it can be a four-year contract so theoretically he could opt in um do an extend in trade and still get that money now it would be the same as what the Sixers could offer in free agency the most money he could get though because an optin extend in trade is limit to 5% raises the most money he could get is by uh opting in being traded waiting six months then he could get 8% raises it basically comes out to about $9 million over four-year contract so that is the most money he could get but he could get an equivalent deal from the Sixers uh by opting in so all of this is to say I think at this point Paul George is going elsewhere I don’t think he’s staying in LA and I don’t think he’s signing in Philadelphia now I could be wrong this is not me de claring oh I’ve heard he’s definitely not coming here definitely not doing this I’m just saying if you’re if you’re weighing if you’re weighing all the probabilities I think it’s more likely that he opts in and somebody else steps up to the plate and pays more than the Sixers would be willing to offer so for example team like Houston is out there right now they’re known as a team looking for veteran help somewhat to bring shooting and defense alongside those young guys to you know get to that competitive level playoff level right now I guess the Dylan Brooks thing didn’t work out for him all that much I mean look they were better last year they’re just not better enough in the eyes of front office and ownership so they’re a team to keep an eye on the Nicks have been floated as a possibility and I know we’ve talked some about I believe Paul George’s wife is from New York and so they’re there’s some things happening there which that would also tell you why ogan obi’s free agency has been murkier than maybe people thought it would be when they traded for him or even like a month ago when it felt like a done deal so everything that I’m you know pulling pieces from all these different areas says to me it’s not that the Sixers are out on Paul George it’s not that the Sixers are not interested in Paul George it just seems like there are so many people involved in this now so many potential teams that could make that jump for him or get in the mix for him including some Golden State talk or even like I wouldn’t discount a team I don’t want to give away what I’m gonna say there’s another West Coast team that I want to throw in there because they’ve been attached to some other notable names but there are a lot of people that could be circling here and I just think the value of Paul George for the Sixers was not just the onc court fit it was the fact that you could sign him outright with cap space and once you take that away I don’t know that they’re going to go over the top of everybody else and pay an additional premium to pay him a contract that they would have given them and they still might give them but I don’t think in their heart of hearts were like we really want to give the max to Paul George was just what it would have taken so I think he’s going to end up elsewhere and I think that sets off a big chain reaction for the rest of the market and what the Sixers do we also just simply don’t know whether or not Philadelphia was Paul George’s top sex selection either yes we have no real um reporting that he had been really interested and high heavily considering outside of the fact that the Sixers had cap space and uh they were a logical solution and he had said some positive things about Joel embi in the past but when you open it up to any team that’s willing to trade for him not only does it decrease the chances that the Sixers are where he wants to go but it also increases the cost to get him like Kyle said not the cost in terms of the salary because I think Daryl Moore would throw a Max contract at him still yeah but when you start talking about multiple draft picks when you start talking about winning a bidding more uh yeah it it makes sense that like we said in the last show uh last week it’s not so much Sixers lost interest in Paul George’s player they lost interest in the circumstances surrounding it and what it would take to acquire him and the confidence in that they would be able to get him it does seem like it is less likely significantly less likely now than it has been in quite some time and those are a number of reasons why that Kyle and Derek just laid out there and with those and that that’s where it changes because even when we were together on Friday we even brought up specifically brought up the James Harden situation where James Harden did the exact same thing last last off season to force his way to La where he decided instead of hitting the free agent Market to opt in and try to force his way into a situation that he likes why maybe Paul George doesn’t want to come to Philadelphia or what has potentially soured him who knows you know there’s a lot of variables including the LA piece to just simply staying home or as Kyle mentioned in New York Knicks where sometimes your spouse wants to go back where where they’re from and be with the family and hey they also have a pretty good basketball team so all of that stuff could work out but for the 76ers uh when we discussed it and started talking about Paul George in the very beginning we all looked at it and said look the the player the skill set the wing position that it is that we know they have to focus on this offseason he fits the mold and it’s unfortunate that yes he’s 34 years of age but we also kept saying every single day there’s not a per really a perfect player out there uh that’s not going to cost you a lot that’s available to the Sixers there going to be some warts and some different things and even the ones that were close to perfect highly unlikely that they’re available at this time right now so as we look at things with Paul George and so many different things changing and by the way they’re going to change today tomorrow all the way up to Sunday when we get to when we get to the start of free agency of how things are going to look he has to make that decision by what the 29th I think he has to make his 28th or the 29th that he has to make that decision it’s going to maybe put us in a different position of how we look at the Sixers off season and quite frankly we’re going to do that today because as the guys said we all agree that it’s probably less likely now that we believe that he’s going to come to Philadelphia they’re going to be able to get that thing done fouryear deal over $200 million the fit would have been fantastic but it looks like going in a different direction here and as you said now with him opting in that just makes more teams uh for him to look at say hey I would like to go there especially with the idea of signing an extension with so to set up the rest of what we’re doing here with predictions prediction from each of us where does Paul George end up when it’s all said and done wow and we’re good we’ll stay on that and then we’ll revisit why we think that and you know the Domino effects of it later but where do you think Paul George ends up the I thought you said before the show I just had answered whether he would opt in or not you’re changing the parameters yeah because I’m putting you on the spot you can put me on the spot later we’ll see how um you know what I will I’ll go with the Golden State part okay the Golden State part is interesting of course them knowing I don’t know if it’s the Klay Thompson piece if he feels like he can go to Los Angeles he has the roots there with his dad playing for the Lakers theyve being in La for many many years they are still in Need for Shooters on that basketball team they have shot creators and as much as kawh Lin is not necessarily all that much of a passer and if they do bring James Harden back they’re going to need somebody who can make shots uh and they can create them for him going to Golden State Paul George they also know that they have to do something losing Klay Thompson I don’t know if it’s gonna have to include one of those young players from Mo uh Moody to kaminga who they say they’re not really giving up unless it is an All-Star level player and pods and and Davis or where it goes from there but something to me just he is going to stay on the West Coast golden state is not too far from Los Angeles where the family is he really wants his his parents his mom in particular to still be able to see him play I’ll go with golden state I’ll go out on the limb and say the Golden State Warriors I’ll say New York just for the chaos aspect it’s not so much prediction but what I want to see why do you want to see that we’ll talk about it later chaos we’ll talk about it later all right cool all right so my wild card team I don’t know that he’ll actually go I don’t even know if he could on an optin because the salaries would get real tight and it would take multiple players Sacramento would be a really interesting one they’ve been talked about as a LaVine potential destination and I I don’t think they’ve been brought up as much as you know Golden State Houston New York some of these other teams for Paul George I think they would love to get their hands on you know a real deal Wing play him alongside Keegan Murray sabonis Fox then you’re really cooking something I I don’t know they have a PL they have plenty of picks to move I just don’t know if they can make the money work so that’s the that would be the wild card that’s a pretty good six when you bring back monk as the six and you have those those guys that’s a that’s a pretty good group I’m keeping an eye on them for sure but the other teams are all all in the mix how about that fate Paul George and sabonis basically traded for one another right the Indiana Oklahoma City deal and now you’re going to team up with them a few seasons later in Sacramento that would certainly be a good one I can’t hear I can’t wait to hear what Derrik has to say about the chaos of it all of the New York Knicks and Paul Geor we’ll get to that we’ll get to the draft as well as we talk about what the Sixers will or will not do at 16 we’ll talk about that pick number 41 not necessarily a player because it’s second round who knows what’s going to happen at pick number 41 but when we get back we’ll definitely definitely talk about that and at the very top we said our show and our shows this I’m saying um the next piece and the most immediate thing for us what do the Sixers do on draft night and I’ve I think we all have build I’ll tell you what we’re doing on draft night whatever we are going to be at garage fish town if any of you want to come through on draft night by the way what will the Sixers do on draft night we’ve build that as a tell of what they think is going to happen or maybe what they know is going to happen in free agency so that’s where we start next I guess would anyone like to lay out what they believe is going to happen in the draft first of all most important question does anyone believe they are picking at 16 to just sit at 16 and keep that player from where we sit today not knowing who’s going to fall not knowing who’s gonna be on the board do you think they keep the pick and the player no yes all right Devon tell me why and tell me who you think they’re taking uh pick number 16 I think that because of the Paul George piece and we often talked about Jimmy Butler where we don’t really look at that as a viable option either unless unless you feel there are a number of other players that they could maybe draft for which we might I mean trade for we might talk about them a little bit later I I think that they do sit there they take a young player that we’ve talked about so much that even that pick number 16 in the draft that most look at and say it’s underwhelming than what we’ve seen in the past years I think there’s going to be a player there that they feel like they that that can help them whether it’s one of those freshman guys that can come in and play right away or a veteran player from college that has played a few years there that they feel like can also help this basketball team so with that I do think they stay put I think they pick a guard to help out with uh some of the you have help there now a lot of it is McCain and Duke but I actually think it’s one of the guys that you focused on a lot which is Isaiah ker from USC that can do a lot of different things who was in for a workout last week reported that at the end of last week if anybody missed that bigger bodyguard one that was highly talent coming out of high school with injury and so much that happened with that USC program didn’t really work out out and with him coming to the NBA system with a more space on the floor a game that probably is more translated for the Pro game for him to thrive and I think they stay put at 16 take a guard and Isaiah ker and that’s what happens with with him he’s he’s big enough where he can play next to Maxi and you hope that the defense is there while he’s out there on the floor with maxi and the questions that we still have with his defense but I do think that Isaiah ker for all the things that we did talk about him being a a real true option at that 16th pick someone that could really help not even the Sixers we’ve talked about the Miami Heat where a program like that would help him uh coming into the situation where does he fit into a eight-man rotation I that’s unclear right now but the player the style of play and what he does I think they stay put at 16 and take Isaiah Kia right now another guy I would keep an eye on and San Vini great draft guy at the Athletico I trust a lot on this stuff he has Dillingham falling to the Sixers pick that’s a guy that I know that we talked about how bad the fit would be I think he certainly qualifies as one of the eight most talented players in the draft I think if he’s there I the calculus maybe is a little different just from a pure value perspective wouldn’t be surprised on that one but I’m in agreement with Derek I think this pick is getting moved so Derrick lay out your case why do you think it’s getting moved and where is that pick headed to so I go back and forth part of it could be as a trade package for what I think is the big move of the summer which we haven’t gotten to yet so I don’t want to spoil it so it could be used as a trade package early on the other one that I would think is likely is trade down like maybe trade down to like the 27 28 29 range get either a future pick along with it or maybe a second round pick drop that capit from about $4 million to about two to two and a half half million dollars uh regain a little bit of cap space gain an extra pick to trade in the future maybe even package 41 for a future pick who knows um but I actually 41 I think they keep uh because it doesn’t have a capit until you sign them and they need depth um but yeah I think probably a trade down to lower the capit get a future pick in another pick in the future I think that if it’s not for a player right now uh I think that is most likely okay you never gave an answer I don’t think did you agree with you Derek my prediction is tied into the next step of this process which is why I’ve been trying to set it up as a okay so we have Devon’s on the board for ker Derek and I are on team trade back or trade out I think it’s a trade out I think that’s probably more likely yeah it depend I’m gonna tell you guys why I think I see some of you referring to certain name in the comments I think if you were asking me to predict what’s going to happen right now based on all the te Leaf reading what has or hasn’t been refuted the names that are out there Brandon Ingram is the guy that I think is the most likely of the big names to end up on the Sixers so let me I’ll lay it out like this we talked about the Paul George part that it just feels like it’s going to end up being too rich for their blood based on the max contract number one but now more importantly the trade component where the big Advantage he had was not having a trade for him I think once you get into that team like New York team like Houston Sacramento Golden State whoever will out bid them on that front you move on from there Jimmy Butler is another name that’s been out there I have personally heard a lot more like he doesn’t actually want to leave Miami then it seems the rest of the of of the league has heard and I know Ramona Shel burn through some cold water on the Jimmy thing as well said that you know he’s certainly a candidate of interest to the Sixers but not someone at the top of their list so I’m fading the idea of trading for Jimmy Butler LeBron I think is staying in La he’s the big pipe dream right like if they if we wake up tomorrow and they draft bronny at 16 obviously all hell is broken loose and we’ll have to adjust from there I default to LeBron is staying in LA and I don’t think think the market for Brandon Ingram from what all of us have heard and from what we can tell is particularly strong I think he’s a flawed enough player at this stage of his career he’s heading into the final year of his deal I haven’t heard a ton about other teams getting in the mix for Ingram and I think I have not heard much on the Sixers end of like no no no we’re not in or we’re not paying this we’re not paying that and I tend to think this time of year when you’re silent or you’re quiet about something that’s when you’re really contemplating and that’s when you might make a move and so I don’t think they’re making a pick at 16 because I think they’re packaging that and I think they’re packaging another first round pick in the future I don’t know what that’ll be I think that’d be the more valuable one so let’s say sea argument the 2028 Clippers pick and they’re sending that to New Orleans for Brandon Ingram and so that’s that’s my current mindset on what the big move is is that Brandon Ingram is the third guy and you get this next year to see how does he fit alongside Joel and Tyrese Maxi and how do you fill out the roster otherwise well we’ll get to there at one point but I think talking to these guys before the show I thought that I was alone on this island and then I brought it up and Derek was like well I’ve definitely said this I was like oh yeah I’ve definitely said this almost exact thing in Discord so like problem is we’ve talked about some of this in various channels outside of it yes but I have certainly felt like Ingram is becoming more and more likely to the point where I think he’s I agree with Kyle I think he’s probably the most likely and again most likely does not mean it’ll happen it means of all of the options this is not me saying they’re absolutely tring foron Ingram this a lot of Tea Leaf reading there are conversations that are had throughout the year and through the off season of course but it’s a lot of Tea Leaf reading as well uh so I want to sort of you know just get that out there but I do think part of it is because Paul George just seems less likely um so he moves up almost by default there Jimmy Butler I think Kyle laid out a good a good distinction that needs to be made in his case he doesn’t dislike Miami he just wants a new contract he wants money yeah and until he makes that you know uncomfortable for them that it doesn’t seem like he’s all that realistic regardless of the Ramona report or not if he’s not moving it doesn’t really matter and when you look at it from there unless OG moves and which is a George Goes in New York that is a real we’ll get into that in a second then it seems like Ingram is the one who is the best player currently gives them way more flexibility than some of the other options and you start wondering whether or not he can be better here than he was there and I think having a you a two other options around him one of them a big who can shoot in Joel embiid like I think their sport floor spacing was pretty bad I think that impacted them I think he was overtaxed as a ball handler I think he’d be better as a third option and his if you look at his catch shoot numbers not the volume the volume we all agree has to go up just the pure numbers of it it’s always 40 41 42% off the catch it’s pretty consistent year-over-year if he slides into being more of an off ball role if you take the ball out of hands and he becomes more of a secondary playmaker can he increase that volume you know decrease some of those mid-range shots get himself out of some of his bad Tendencies and back to maybe the player that he was or maybe even beyond that look I’m not like if you rank percentiles on belief and Brandon Ingram I’m certainly nowhere near the bottom like I think he’s a a good scorer like was brought up early in the offseason of a Tobias Harris comparison not really in terms of style of play but in terms of just a a player who was overpaid because he was the best available but I think that does a little bit of a disservice because I think he’s a better scorer I think he’s a better passer I think he’s a better shooter than Tobias um you just need to get that volume back up I’m not like 100% I’m not telling you he’s perfect option I also haven’t completely ruled it out and dismissed it I’m probably somewhere in like the 60th percentile of Brandon Ingram believer but I do think that’s actually probably almost exactly where I’m but if there was a player who has a chance we went back and did the next Aaron Gordon and that wasn’t so much trying to find someone who played basketball like Aaron Gordon but finding someone who’s in a bad spot who could may be in a better spot I do think he has been overtaxed as at times especially because Zion’s uh in and out of the lineup overtaxed as a prim AR crator that’s not really his strength yeah and I think because of that he defaulted back into some bad habits in terms of you know getting into mid-range maybe dominating the ball a little too much if you can get him back out of that there’s Talent there for sure it’s just can you get him back out of that 36 million for next season and that’s the final year of his deal so as the guy said it’s a it’s an opportunity for them to get a up close look on the player how he fits next to Joel embiid and Tyrese Maxi for not only the short term but is there a chance that they can look at him for the long term also and he’s still young he’s still young enough where it fits into what they want to do right now in the winning and then should and be eventually start to fade a bit it fits along with Tyrese Maxi in his timeline uh for what what things look like for Tyrese Maxi so that’s the numbers there and people of course asking Derek uh what is that look like how do you get them how much do you give up for him and like you guys said it doesn’t seem like is about right yeah I think the two fix is about right um you know the question becomes can you avoid giving away that unprotected Clippers pick right you would really prefer to do that they can have that OKC pick all they want they’re going to win 75 games that year by that point in never franchise um so have that one have at it but You’ really like to keep that unprotected Clippers pick but we’ll see yeah and I just I just think if this year’s draft was more valuable you could maybe sell the Pelicans on a cheaper pick or a worse pick down the road I do think this year if you’re I always try to get inside the heads of the other franchise and how they’re run generally the Pelicans are not always possible as we is certainly not always possible but the Pelicans as a general rule are not a team that’s like yeah we want to we want a lot of future Capital so I would not be surprised I think if you know let’s say a Dillingham a Ron Holland like one of these guys who’s viewed as a a big talent but could slide for various reasons I think if one of those players slides to 16 then it’s an easier sales pitch them like oh you get one of this drafts shiny shiny things that happen to fall into our laps and they’re the they don’t worry about the four or five years down the road so I think that’s probably important to consider but unfortunately this draft is just not that good so you’re G to have to give up something of value and I think it ends up being one of those future Clippers assets that they’re holding on to but we’ll see never now all right well when we get back we’ll tell people what we think uh things you you still got to go for your do it on the other side yeah yeah we do it on the other got plenty to talk about still a lot of predictions to make Calla some waves here and listen guys you will absolutely need to take a step back and choose chill at points throughout this week because you know the Sixers are going to send you on a roller coaster there is always a better way and a chiller way whether you’re at garage fish town with us tomorrow night you’re s sitting watching the show at home whatever you’re doing you can chill out and then reach for an ice cold Coors Light because with Coors Light you know you’re getting an ice cold beer my big prediction is Brandon Ingram or that’s their big move that they’re going to make you and where are the rest of us at on that one is Derek you’re in agreement you’re so well you made it seem like was gonna say you made it seem like you might be leaving the door open there some other things down there well are you gonna go more no I went Ingram Ingram all right so for me there is one other name that I would be interested in but I think Ingram is most likely it’s uh for me it was I went against these guys on this one I went with OG anobi because he officially over the weekend at least according to reports he officially did opt out of the player option and he is going to be an unrestricted free agent so and Begley from New York we talk about him often does a great job in covering the Knicks and what he does and I was even watching something from him last night where he did a a hit on television and he pointed out how one team to look for uh should you know we get to the point where ogan anobi is in fact looking and we get surprised by a team that he signs with and he did in fact mention the number one team and that is the Philadelphia 76ers because they do have the cap space the relationship with Nick nurse they have been um buzzing around if you will uh with the conversation of ogan and Obi and the name being out there and if we’re looking as Derek talked about 35 to 40 million of being a number that we talked about in Begley mench 35 to 38 somewhere in that range and with the flexibility that both Derrick and Kyle have talked about in the past and even Begley mentioning it on the show last night I looked at that 38 and 35 of what they could still potentially do if they sign him to that number they get him in the full that’s your third star and you bring him in and we know how much the defensive versatility makes up for any lack of offense that you may have an issue with as the player where you might want to see a 20 point per game score but instead you get somebody as a Difference Maker that’s going to take away a 20 plus Point per game score which you have two that are already putting those types of numbers on the board plus whatever may happen down the line with some of these other players that we could tell you within the rotation the ogan noi thing really has me intrigued as we get closer and closer to the draft and now even with free agency beginning at 6 pm on Sunday I went with ogan and Obi as the choice that I think that they eventually go with and that would be a huge pickup for the Philadelphia 76ers should that happen so hold before you get into that the reason that I thought you you were gonna go OG Derek is because you’re the one who said Paul George was going to go to the Knicks that that was your yeah so I guess the mechanics of I’m interested why you think or why you think OG will end up leaving like what why would the Knicks let him leave if there’s not another big move coming in I guess yeah what the second number one that we’re here talking about it where it’s not Pascal seum piece where he’s already inal done deal close to 190 over four years they make the trade they move two young assets on their roster to get this player you always talk about the fact that his agent is the son of the president of basketball operations it has to be brought off every single time things are just all over the place with the guy so why is it not happening and that that’s a big part of it so with that then you also the the other part was this well we keep Begley out bringing him up again talking about how Jaylen Brunson is going to take less money on his extension and they do that and they’re not figuring out a way to bring oan and Obi back at the number that he wants that’s still going to be under 200 million but enough in that 35 to 40 million range where you’re able to work him within that structure Brunson comes back at a lower number but still gets Max money for him coming in and I’m like well why is that not happening and then you do start the New York wife Paul George’s wife is from New York if that does play a part in it is there this secret team that wants Paul George and it it’s not Golden State and it’s not the Houston Rockets oh by the way it’s the New York Knicks because he’s they’re able to give him what he wants he Ops in he gets the extension his wife is happy he doesn’t have a lot of pressure because of what Brunson is already going to be able to do Julius Randle is still on the team so it’s like their roster is complete then ojan anobi is looking for a team and why not just right up 95 he’s familiar with the coach he’s familiar with the system and now he comes in he will get a enough shots here at a decent number and he’s playing with two guys and by the way the sixes take away a pain in the ass in ogan noi trying to defend both Tyrese Maxi and Joel and B which is a crazy thing to say but absolutely true5 as we look at it and that’s why I lean to more towards OG and and noi there’s a part of me that hopes you’re right not because I dislike Brandon Ingram but like I like OG a lot and I like the way he uh can really get after it defensively I like how that would give you versatility and just really Shore down your defense and know by the way he’ll make 40% of his threes uh pretty consistent how fun would that be with that defense Joel and that I don’t like injury concerns you can’t get past that um but I like him as a player a lot I also think if you sign him you have a lot of work to do in terms of getting the secondary creation you do otherwise because he is not the now look can he he can attack you on straight line drives he can certainly beat the close out from time to time will break somebody down but he ends up in no man’s landan a decent amount when he’s the guy who has to create and so I would worry about uh how Maxi is covered especially in the the non Joel lineups but I do think there’s plenty of upside to signing OG so if that’s what they do we’ve talked about it a lot I think that’s a he that’s a high-end outcome he transforms your defense yes right away and I think he’s a I still don’t think he’s the most likely outcome but I think he’s more likely than I thought he was a month and a half ago like pretty significantly more likely uh so is uh that’s good it’s good to have options if they do yeah yep so that’s where I go that’s where I lean and so if we look at that and let’s say Brandon Ingram for both of you oan and Obi I go there so Derek where do you now go with the rest of how the offseason starts to shape out and as we talked about it and we presented it more of that the six to seven man liation I look Kyle and I are our first big move was bringing in a guy who made 36 million instead of 49 yours is a guy who was anywhere from 35 to 42 million you got little extra money to play with I think you got to bring back the Assassin score I’m just I’m kidding before anybody gets angry at me and you know how much we haven’t talked about him this off seon we’ll talk about whenever he signed somewhere but unless Derek says you bring him back at what number Derek are you bringing them back zero he owes the franchise money he owes the franchise that’s funny no I don’t I I think my next name I would throw out there and look if the Sixers go this route I legitimately Wonder like like if they’re sitting here because if you bring in Brandon Ingram at $36 million in a trade you then have you know what an extra I feel like I should Notice off top well an extra $13 million to play with so you’re sitting there with about $28 million in space under the cap I do wonder will they go out and try to make a big splash maybe someone like kcp is probably name will I get thrown around a lot but funny you should mention it I then also wonder like because especially if let’s say you only have to give up two first round picks and it’s not necessarily good one it’s this one and a future one that isn’t the Clippers pick you still have some picks that you can use for a trade I think my head I wonder if Daryl will say all right well I’m gonna try to get like three players on tradable contracts so then I can aggregate them in six months at the trade deadline or if it goes for one big swing like the Casp I’m gonna say the three tradable contracts so I would say first one up I would say niji Marshall I think that is a Direction they could go Evan cyri uh yesterday I think it was or today said that the Pelicans are preparing to lose him in free agency listed the Sixers as a candidate I’m not necessarily sure he is a starter material that largely depends on how much you buy his shot this year which was pretty um you know wasn’t the case previous couple years but in terms of just being a young player who can grow defens not grow but grow offensively who’s got an incredible you know length and just really gets after it defensively can be a piece on that end and someone who maybe can can trade down the line if you need to aggregate salary I think there’s a chance Daryl might say all right I got my third option offensively give me two or three aggregatable I don’t even know if that’s a word I’m making one salaries down the line and move on with the summer okay so who are the other ones I it would be like bringing back Batum and UB Okay now what’s the number for those two what higher than Batum yeah is that like 10 million 12 million a year but on short-term deals like like basically balloon payments but mini balloon fuse in the chat like mini balloon P so I want to keep those two years or shorter so you can trade them if you get the opportunity okay and um but two maybe a one year because he’s barely knows if he wants to play basketball so like you know you got to Le that if you had to guess about what Naji Marshall would get on the open market it’s a good question I truthfully am not 100% sure yeah I could see anywhere from like seven to 12 above that I would be a little bit surprised but somewhere in that range okay I honestly don’t know cuz he’s young enough and with enough athleticism and Tool and defensive tools I could see someone overpaying if they they really believe in that shot I wouldn’t go much higher than that but some in that range okay you go I’m gonna take the other side of it my top six well top seven joal embiid Tyrese Maxi Brandon Ingram kentavius Caldwell Pope Nick Batum Kelly UB Kyle lard so you trade for Ingram he’s at the 36 number you give kcp I’m trying to think I was trying to work out the math say low 20s let’s for a sake of argument let’s say like 20 they give them like 22 a year callwell pop yeah okay and then you have I want to say I wish our website wasn’t D I was trying to refer to Derek’s wonderful primer for know I probably have it on top of my head so let’s say 22 for kcp then you can give Batum the last six million in c space UB gets the room exception Lowry on the minimum that’s knock it out of the park buddy there we go see I can still do math so I think there’s been a decent amount of smoke on cwell Pope yeah from people like zacho but also some other people around the league the reason he would be opting out is to make more than $15 million and I think if you to counter what Derek is saying and I do think what you’re saying makes sense with you know the balloon payments and keeping these guys on contracts that are movable for later I think once you get Ingram it’s not to say that you’ve given up on the balloon payment thing but that’s more of we’re trying to win and this is like core yeah it’s it’s sort of like splitting the difference it’s certainly not a true balloon path but it’s it’s having like it’s it’s having a couple of contracts and really the tradable contracts is probably more Kelly and um more Batum like those are the two guys that and naji’s just kind of like well I Target him because I kind of like him yeah I’m not casting any sperss it’s a a good fake off season from Derek but I think if you make that Ingram move then I think they will go for like a real fourth guy but a real fourth guy that also allows them to keep some of these role players that people actually like and so I don’t know where kp’s Market eventually settles I do think he’s going to get good money one thing that made me think he’s getable was the Malik monk return to Sacramento and what he ultimately took to go there was four for 78 right so less than 20 million a year I think it’s possible and if he Ops out I’d say likely that he’s going to get slightly more than that just not on as many years and I think kyp fits in that perfect there’s a reason he has played on a lot of good teams in recent years right after being lost into the the Detroit Wilderness he’s a guy who is okay not touching the ball that much great cutter great transition player can defend twos and threes at a high level still at a high level in his early 30s he’s what 31 I believe and you put him in that slot you can live with I think the fifth starting spot then is rotated through depending on matchup depending on you know what you think you need as the season goes along I do think Batum is a real likely candidate to return and so he’s earmarked for the rest of that cap space wants you make the kcp move UB on the room I think is a fair price for him I think he probably wants more but I think given what he said about his comfort with Nick nurse embracing the city you know kind of the year he was able to have here as a role guy and a pretty sizable role a team that frankly was better much better than the team he left previously I think he will find somewhere in the middle the value of wanting to win getting a decent payday and then Lowry is just wants to stay in his hometown wants to play for Philadelphia and so that’s your seven I I asked these guys for their top six that they’d come out of the off season with my but I’ll add on another one and my last one was Drummond onum so run your seven one more time in order Tyrese Maxi Brandon Ingram calwell Pope Nick patum Kelly UB Kyle lry all right okay um that’s that’s a pretty that’s not a bad off season at all yeah that’s that’s not a bad offseason all right with mine starting with the OG anobi piece and I’ll go with Jo and B Tyrese Maxi ogan anobi I’ll skip over the other part real fast just to get to Batum on the number that the guys have talked about Kyle Lowry the same thing coming back on the minimum vet minimum that they’ll offer him and I do think Kelly UB also returns to the 76 because they liked him enough of what he did that he does come back but instead of the kcp part I went more with the Naji Marshall side I understand that that he is not kcp he hasn’t done it the question is can he as Derek said can you believe in the shot is that something that’s going to translate from last season with more shot attempts potentially here if it’s a starting role coming in and still shooting at a pretty good volume pretty good clip here with this basketball team so looking at him with ogan and noi I understand that as we talked about the shot creation is not there I just don’t see it out there really available unless you get the Ingram part to come in you know he can get his own shot he can get his you don’t have to worry about much but really have to do a lot to find that other player if it’s dejonte Murray or somewhere if we go along those lines but so I went with the Naji Marshall part of them looking at it and saying they they get a shot here with Marshall and hope that that translates where it’s kcp like where it’s not as much you’re not spending as much uh but you’re you’re really looking at it and saying this is going to some be something that’s going to work out here with some really good shot creators and Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid and that will play out and factor out as to why they feel like even though it’s not an offensive player with the ogan and noi part Marshall can still and then we talk about with his defense then you’re looking at the defense of being on the floor with the lineup of ogan and noobi Marshall with Joel embiid and possibly Batum and maybe some others that they do have out there so that’s where I went and again he shot 28.6% on 406 three-pointers before this year uh so that was always a huge concern and look he shot the heck out of the ball this past year I’ve gone back and I’ve watched a lot of the shooting I don’t necessarily 100% believe in the form a lot of times I like to look at where are the misses going he misses left or right quite a bit he can be pretty wild with it he has always been a pretty good free throw shooter so you’ve always used that as a tool to project but he’s not like a young kid anymore like he’s 26 27 years old um but the defense is just good enough where yeah I’ll take that and even with the shot watching him enough with the Pelicans that didn’t seem like he was hesitating either no he just caught and shot you know he felt confident in what he was doing the mechanics and all rose up shot the basketball and went about it and see if it knocks down or not but that’s what it is so for me it’s Joel and B tyres Maxi ogan and noi Naji Marshall and then you go with the three returning Sixers Batum Lowry and UB that’s my that’s mine so I think we’re all in a similar Place obviously a name that keeps getting brought up in the chat that I do think is worth us talking about here do any of us believe the Anthony Melton returns to this team I was going to say him just because of of course the back part and getting you get a a discount there you you know his his Medicals you know him better than anybody so if others do get a Peak at it and maybe say yeah I don’t know if I want to spend this much money and you don’t have many options that you are able to get him back here on a team friendly deal I did think about it but I just stayed away from it but I would not be surprised if he does in fact come back for a a a number that works for both to get him back and if his back is able to you know improve during the season that I just I don’t think it’s something you can count on and I think so I think the Sixers from what I know or have heard over the last couple months we’ve all heard I think they would like to have them back yeah the only pause I have is that it does seem like there are rumors out there that there might be one team that takes a swing on them the medical is a disaster or however you want to characterize it the back’s been a disaster we don’t care like we think he’s talented enough that we’ll pay him you know there might be a team let’s say Orlando right Malik Monk’s off the board if the Sixers or the Bulls or one of these teams signs cwell Pope they’re going down the list and they’re like okay well we’ll we’ll throw a bunch of money at DeAnthony Melton for a year or two that doesn’t really impact us at all and he goes down there and he fits he doesn’t change what they need but he fits with the identity that they’ve built that would be what I would worry about but otherwise I I would imagine the Sixers will bring him back I don’t know if they would go above the minimum at this point yeah anything above I don’t know about the Sixers anything above the minimum I would have a hard time considering how few like I said we’ve talked about it so many times I almost legitimately just split that 25 million or so from kcp and three players just to get depth and aggregatable contracts I’m not GNA then go out there and be like well I’m gonna eat into that to get a guy who I’m not sure if he can physically pay play basketball next year it’s really tough to do which is funny because all of us we get labeled like you guys love Melton too much and you don’t like U enough and blah and like I would pay kelly8 million with the room exception before I would give it to DeAnthony I just do not trust his health backs are important yeah so I’m Pro back I would say unlikely but not the table for sure if that one team does not exist someone will throw him a oneye if it was different if the six were in a different spot and they had his bird rights you didn’t have to you know wave his bird rights to generate cap space and you’re like all right let’s give him like a oneyear six mil Pro it deer I don’t care about a one-year deal if it’s any other year where it’s not like well that’s going to eat into your flexibility here it legitimately eats into your flexibility if I threw one at you guys differently not on the team sure last season is there one that we haven’t mentioned of these players that we just filled out of our six and our seven rotation that you would take a swing and say if they add this player role player doesn’t have to be a star player just could be a role player and we know the name that you would say that’s a pretty good move like the Melton move on draft night where it came out of nowhere a type of player somewhere in the association where you just said like I’ll throw not that this is my guy but you know how we talk about and a lot I say Cory kisper because they need shooting but it’s someone for whatever specific reason you believe that they need on the roster just one guy one skill set type of player that you would like I wish Patrick Williams was not a restrictive free agent because if you could deal in any way with the bulls right now that seems like you could strike gold for very little Sixers don’t have any Medi young players to trade so yeah so that’s where I would go I mean naju Marshall is probably a great example of it right where you’re you’re saying he’s an ascending player although again I think they’re brought up t e you always you guys always bring up t t e is an interesting one so that one I don’t know that he’s actually available that’s one that I think people have been wishcasting a little bit saying hey Houston wants to get in the mix for male or they want to get in the mix for Paul George or Ingram or whoever it might be bigname veteran guy and somebody’s minutes are going to get squeezed or eliminated alog together they’re very crowded there between they drafted cam Whitmore last year they already Jabari Smith if they get another win they have Dylan Brooks tar e is just a logical candidate I really like him he’s just a logical or not a logical I’m sorry my brain is swimming right now uh tar e is a guy who creates events when he’s on the floor lots of steals lots of blocks lots of rebounds great athlete great competitor sort of high motor player that I think they need so I would have interest in him for sure but I I again this one’s hard to know because I have way I don’t have as good a feel for which low minute role players are available on each team right because that’s such a specific Market but he’s he’s in there Marshall’s in there Patrick Williams not a low minute guy I’d be interested in him but probably not the cost and what is that three days that it takes to match it’s shorter now right I think it’s 40 hours it used to be 72 I think I remember back in the day it used to be 5 I think they cut it down thought they cut it to three but I we I can double check it but yeah I think that was cut down again Sean wford does throw a guy in there the Danny ABIA he they’d have to pay a so if you’re talking if they don’t do a a kcp and we’re talking about they got Ingram they have these picks you’d probably have to move a real thing for or not if not multiple things and that’s I would I think he’s a great F there’s no reason for them to trade him so you have to actually make a deal that would be tough for them to refuse yeah yeah so that’s you could talk me into probably some pretty ridiculous things to get Denny on the team though I think he’d be a real good fit long term yeah uh rj7 Duce in the Super Chat says Gary Trent would be a great pickup wonder how Nick nurse would feel about that I wonder how Gary Trent would feel about that given that Nick nurse dressed him down publicly multiple times uh Big Papa Pump interesting one that’s a good one all right uh way off p is a catastrophe 76ers need to find a uh genetic freak in the draft well so who fits that there not a lot of guys in this draft that fit that Ron Holland might be the one of the few in that range potentially right because most of so we’ talked about it with the guards the guards are mostly small which is a problem in general but certainly next to Tyrese Maxi a lot of the Wings are older what’s that French kid that you guys mentioned last the one I say his name but he’s 18 and he’s like 67 68 and you look at his highlights but can you get pulled into oh that’s Tim Lau cabaro playing doing the same thing at that time but something like that where Holland someone we don’t know if take if they keep the pick and they want to take a home run swing if Holland is there he’s the Home Run swing right I I the more I watch him talk myself out of him entirely I understand like Derek made the case for him on the show and I understand why you would say I just I believe in that kid I think the environment was bad and it was they not because of this but they literally disbanded the g-league ignite after last season which was a complete dis f for everybody who played for that program that’s not something to you know just ignore and if you go back to high school he was a winner at every level state champion three consecutive years one got wiped off the board because I think it was Anthony black that he played with had some kind of Eligibility issue that ruled them out of the his senior year tournament well they were 29- one that season didn’t get to play in the state tournament he has two gold medals with the you know uu6 U7 Team USA teams he’s he’s not I I don’t blame him for the ignite being a disaster I just think you saw so many of the the issues and the flaws with that Arc Type right it’s just like if you can’t put him on the ball because his handle’s not that great and he’s not a good passer and you can’t play him off ball because he can’t shoot it’s like well what would you say you do here to borrow from Office Space finny Chase feed me Ron Holland please he also says the French kid Pome what is that how you d d Dad please I’m actually decent at French but when it comes to the names I just forget Dad pomi dadd it’s not Pierre for who are who are the ones that if they fell you would you would change your Approach at 16 yeah well so I don’t even ker is not even falling at this point that’s just his range so I I wouldn’t put him in that conversation I think Holland is worth considering and we’ve seen him in some mocks where he’s in that top 12 just because of the reasons as you just pointed out I think Dillingham is worth considering as much as I think it’s a disaster fit with maxi if you get a guy who’s like a legit Sixth Man and frankly is of all these guys we talk about live dribble Ken playmake although he’s more in the Lou Williams School of playmaking good on and offall shooter those are real skills at 16 that you’re not
