Sam Vecenie of The Athletic predicts the Lakers trade up to draft Devin Carter.

New mock here just posted this morning. Vecenie is as close to the draft as anybody and bases all mocks on intel and logic. The rest of the writeup says the following:

Carter was one of the best players in college basketball this past season. The son of former NBA point guard Anthony Carter, Devin improved in each of his last five seasons. However, Carter’s biggest jump this past campaign came on offense. After years of being a questionable shooter, Carter hit 37.7 percent of his nearly seven 3-point attempts per game. His shot is something of a moon ball that arcs high in the air, but it went in consistently this season. Several teams in the No. 8 to 15 range are excited by Carter.

The Lakers also had Carter in for a workout, and league sources said the team was impressed with him. He’d be able to help the team from day one and form a long-term backcourt partnership with Austin Reaves. Jumping six spots up the board would require real assets, which the Lakers have in short supply. In this hypothetical, they trade Jalen Hood-Schifino, their first rounder last year, and two future second-round picks to get it done.

The Bulls are in an ideal spot to trade back from their selection here at No. 11 if a few of Carter, Robert Dillingham, Topić and Ron Holland make it this far down the board outside of the top 10.

I’d be fine with that. I still like JHS but he’ll fit well with CHI timeline. A Carter/Reaves backcourt would be solid.

I’m fine with using this pick, but honestly is it not just better to rebuild if this is the path we’re going down? Several teams are going to go win now tonight and in the coming days and I just don’t see us getting significantly better by adding some rookies and 1 or 2 good role players.

  3. I like it, carter is a really good defender, shooter, rebounder and solid passer. He fits like a glove around our best players and has some good upside with his good athleticism

I also wouldn’t be surprised if they’re trading up bc they see a prospect they like falling and they’re using carter as a smokescreen

He’s my preferred pick this year if we could get him. I think Carter is the real deal and gives us the defense back there we desperately need

Yes another guard!!! Like we don’t have enough young undeveloped guards that need minutes…

Devin Carter is also my pick if Ron Holland doesn’t drop or if it isn’t any of the bigs. He’s athletic enough (not crazy though) to keep up with most people, he’s a good finisher at the rim, very solid defender and even better rebounder especially for someone of his size. I don’t think the rebounding will translate in the NBA but he’s got that dog in him to fight for every possession which is someone we need desperately

  7. The 17 pick, last year’s pick, and 2 second round picks to move up 6 spots? Hmmm

How about a three team trade where we fuck some laughing stock and make the Los Angelas Timberwolves and Minneapolis Lakers both better?

2 first round picks and 2 second round picks to move up 6 spots? I’m not fw this unless we get another pick back.

No more guards, we need a center or wing

Reminds me of a far more athletic and physical Gary Trent Jr. 9 boards a game as a guard is nuts. Am hoping for a center but he’s my pick for a guard.

I’d rather Bronny and we grab a big or a wing…shit a big wing would be great

If we trade up and Holland is still on the board that’s my pick

  14. Not seen much of Carter, aside from few yt highlights. Is he a good fit?

How would Devin Carter help the Lakers?
    I don’t watch college basketball.

  16. I dont know about his shot… it just looks like it shouldn’t go in. He shot the 3 well this year 37% (45% guarded and 32% unguarded, which is weird as shit) but he was a sub 30% shooter from 3 his two other college seasons. His freethrow shooting is also poor for a guard but meh. He does look like he could contribute solidly in other areas

Pelinka will trade LeBron, Dlo, and Reeves for Chris Paul before he will do something as logical as drafting an impact player that would help this year.
