Grizzlies drafting Zach Edey No. 9 is a ‘terrible pick’ | 2024 NBA Draft Reaction

ninth pick in the 2024 NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select Zack Edy at number nine wasman what do you think of this pick oh boy uh number nine I gotta give this a C+ I just watch for the sign behind you the sign’s gonna fall again I Gotta Wear a Helmet to the next for the next couple picks um yeah I don’t know I mean listen I like I think Ed and I’ve turned around a little bit on him since you know earlier in the season when I wasn’t sure he was draftable and slowly he’s moved up the board number nine um with with some of the younger guys on the board is a stretch I guess if you’re Memphis you’re thinking about winning right away particularly after that down year last year you know is he going to be able to play defense in the last 10 minutes of a playoff game um he did improve his conditioning yeah he’s going to get you easy baskets offensive rebounds and he’s going to you know he’s going to be a defensive presence just by standing there but um yeah I just think with other guys on the board um there’s just higher upside options and uh yeah I I’m still trying to process Zack Ed going number nine that’s just not something I I saw in the cards particularly not you know a couple weeks ago I know as we got closer to this draft we’re hearing more about him Rising into the lottery but um yeah I I just can’t I can’t get behind this pick this early you know national college player of the year that seems to be the thing that if we look historically those guys have worked out uh in the sense Zack Edy doesn’t seem like coming into this draft he fits that same mold as some of those guys who have that Accolade to their name yeah I mean I’m a huge Zack gy fan especially on a personal what what he did for the college game these last two years getting Purdue back to the final four getting Purdue to the national championship game dealing with the criticism and the hate and the controversy over the officiating um you know I I just I think the world of him I think this is a terrible pick was going with that at number nine I mean uh and especially you know the idea that he could ever share the court with John Morant who it might be the fastest player in the in in the whole league uh with the ball in his hands and and Zack Ed is not gonna be able to keep up with that Zach Edy is I could see him in the pick and roll game so maybe that’s U part of the play there but basically for him to be effective he’s going to play this he look is what he is you got you got to park him near the basket you got to get him the post up you got to throw him the ball and then you got to let him try to either score or get fouled and needless to say the size and the physicality and the athleticism of The Bigs that he’s going to be going up against in the NBA are exponential compared to uh what he faced in college and then on the defensive end I mean he’s going to be very hard to hide because once you move him a few feet away from the basket uh he’s just a Sitting Duck he doesn’t move his feet well he does not recover he’s not a weak side uh shot blocker at all he’s very good uh as as a primary shot blocker so um not only going ninth uh in the draft which is I don’t know a single mock w i mean you track all this stuff I don’t know a single mock that had that going in the top 10 much less a team like uh Memphis that has the fastest point guard in the NBA this is a terrible pick first up I had I thought I was being you know op optimistic I put him at 13 to the Kings and I really had trouble even doing that put him that high I’m just listening to people telling me he’s going the lottery and Seth to your point the fastest point guard in the league a fast team the craziest stat I think of the whole draft process is that Zack Edy did not make one basket in transition the entire season and he played a lot of games in a lot of minutes itd seemed like he’d get one by accident just by being in good position so yeah I mean it’s it’s kind of contrasting Styles there and uh yeah I’m with you I this is a a shocking pick

Jonathan Wasserman and Seth Davis explain why they don’t like the Memphis Grizzlies taking Purdue center and 2x National Player of the Year Zach Edey at No. 9 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.

  1. If Gobert gets played out of playoff games, what makes you think Edey wont? Yall too high here no offense

  2. It is going to hard trying to stop him and Ja, in a pick and roll. He will help out their half court offense .

  3. Yeah. draft a guy that averages 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1 block instead of the guy that averaged 20 and 10 with 2 blocks and scored 40 in the championship game. Anyone that believes that should be ignored. Forever.

  4. They wanted the grizz to pick a guard smh bleacher report need to stop smh great pick grizz we’ll to Memphis

  5. The first 8 teams will regret they didn't drafted the two-time player of the year monster! Nobody can guard Edey and he destroyed Clingan in the championship game.

  6. Couple of clowns just trying to act contrarian and pick the lesser known guy in the hopes they look like a real insider with expert knowledge. The Grizzlies needed a big man. That was by far their greatest need. They drafted the biggest man, and… oh… he just so happens to be the back to back consensus National Player of the Year. They're a below average shooting team with an elite paint penetration threat in Ja and they draft an elite balls screener, elite offensive rebounder, and elite put back/lob finisher. You gotta be a real smooth brained try hard to be able to twist this into a "bad" pick. Wow.

  7. As an Edey fan, Memphis is the worst organization looking for a Center that he coulda gone to, prolly my 3rd choice. Yall better treat him well and not corrupt him with the bs happening in the city of Memphis.

  8. Lol the stereotype of this guy. He played 4 years of college and is big so bad pick without seeing him play. Conditioning????? Are you kidding me he dominated the combine played full games and did great. He is going to be a great player. He can do so much more than people give him credit for.

  9. You have dumb, dumber and then you have those 2 idiots. Memphis needed another Steven Adam, they got one that can also score in the paint.

  10. Steal of the draft he’s gonna be like rudy gobert but with an elite post game and excellent touch around the rim people really don’t see the vision it’s crazy

  11. this guy is tripping he’s gonna fit amazing with ja and jjj he’s gonna be a threat this guy needs to have a 1 on 1 wit me

  12. Everyone that has doubted Zach has been wrong so far. He damn near single handedly brought Purdue a National Title and will fight like a dog to get better. He's one of the best big men in college basketball history, give the kid a shot!

  13. Lol.. nba is not a 1 on 1 game.. comments here keep saying nobody could match with him physically. Sure that’s true but the fast pace games will take away his size and when teams pull him out of the perimeter.. bbq chicken. If he gets double team on the post.. it will be a problem for him. He is not a good decision maker and a passer. But in-terms of setting up screen and picks he will definitely be elite. He also has great touch when shooting the ball inside the restricted area

  14. This guy didn't think edey would be a 1st round pick… why even listen to him.

Edey always should of been to 10

  15. I think the real topic should be the lack of credibility, laughable takes, and overall low iQ that is vomited out of the Bleacher Report. Copy and paste programming from a bunch of nobodys. 😅😂

  16. Once again bleacher report is off. He’s arguably the best player in the draft. He can play right away and will take pressure off Ja. This will age terribly

  17. In the worst big man era since the 50s, he will be very good in the league if he has a real opportunity. In the playoffs you need a half court game. That’s how Boston won a ring. Running actual sets and getting good opportunities

  18. Hell end up with the best career out this class if he doesnt suffer injuries. Nba development for him will make him mvp caliber
