I tried to calculate if it would be a useful approach to stay as a over the cap team and work with sign&trades but it’s not worth it
It arguably in some case gives us a little more opportunities money wise, especially for our own free agents but at the same time make us way less flexible cause we would need to bank on Tobias being sign & traded (for 21m starting salary)

I don’t watch college basketball but after watching some tape and reading McCain’s scouting report I’m a bit concerned. Unless he develops a handle/passing and can truly run a bench unit I don’t know how impactful he’s going to be.
His defense is solid but at 6’2 there’s really only so much he can do. I just truly don’t understand this team’s obsession with pure 3 & D guards (Springer, Melton, Pat Bev, Zhaire etc.) They just don’t work in the NBA anymore because players are too long and athletic and you pretty much need to be able to switch everything now to avoid being put in rotation.
I’m rooting for the guy but this team really needs to reevaluate its team building philosophy. It’s like Howie Roseman valuing the offensive and defensive line (smart to do) but instead we value 6’3 off ball guards lol.

my favorite approach is still to overpay for Lauri
not only will he be an immaculate fit but his low salary gives us so much more flexibility, he earns 18m less than Ingram so we would have another 18m in cap space to play around with
essentially if we overpaid Lauri with an extra 1st we would pretty much be buying 18m cap space for a 1st round pick … seems like a good deal to me

Plenty of doomers in here y’day, but McCain is a great get.
I still think we should go for Oso Ighodaro at 41 and then look for Cam Spencer, Antonio Reeves, Pelle Larson, Isaiah Crawford and Justin Edwards as 2-Ways/E10s as UDFAs/buy another 2nd rounder to grab one of them and use a 2nd round exception to sign them as an end of roster guy once we are over the cap. Quite a few fun guys left in the 2nd round who could fill an end of roster role 🙂
