back here on CBS Sports HQ presented by Jeep the Wizards are getting the guy nicknamed bub Pittsburgh’s Carlton Bob Carrington the school’s second first round pick in the last 24 years joining Steven Adams in 2013 6’5 190 lbs big combo guard smooth offensive game he’s the first ACC player to record a triple double in his first career game since 1987 and the only freshman in the nation to average at least 13 and 1 12 points five rebounds and four assists so the Washington Wizards with two picks so far in the first round they take Alex sawar and BB Carrington 14th overall Adam finlin Gary Parish Avery Johnson back here in studio bub caring to the Wizards your grade is what uh bub gets a b okay um here’s the thing he’s from Baltimore so he’s going home kind of DMV whatever I don’t know um but his friends and family are going to be able to come see him play that’s the important thing late blooming guard grew 8 Ines since the time he was in high school terrific pull-up shooter and exceeding did every expectation this year at Pittsburgh I mean he was way better than anybody thought uh from evaluators to even the Pittsburgh staff I think they were surprised by how impactful he was right away high IQ player physically not ready for for the NBA right now he’s going to need some time to develop but Washington realistically is in a place where they are not in a in a contending space they are going to be able to give minutes and develop their young guys they traded for Malcolm bragon in this deal where they sent Denny abdia out this was the guy they wanted this was the guy that they were willing to invest in long term now they get a chance to see what they can turn him into a really interesting Prospect still only 18 years old he’s a guard with size who can shoot it like really get hot at any moment but he did still shoot below 33% from three on the season now he took a bunch of Threes more than six per game but he’s kind of a streaky guy more than a consistent reliable shooter either way if you’re 18 and you measure a certain way and you can make shins um you know people are going to be interested not surprised he comes off the board in the first round and here’s what I say even though he shot 33% from three his last seven games he shot 48% from three so that shows that he has some capability uh he had 24 points against North Carolina in the tournament uh I compare him to Caris LeVert uh he has that type of up trajectory and um I think this young man is in the right place at the right time uh new coaching staff and um close to home he’s a second cousin of Rudy Gay so we can talk to Rudy about uh how it is to play in the NBA
